Pushing retinal scans for $30 copay and refused to see us because we didn't want to be dilated for an exam. I made an appointment, mostly for a vision exam, for my family of 4, including my 2 teenage sons. The Target rep was calling us a couple days before the exam because they needed insurance information. I called to provide more info, then they called again and left a message which I received the day before our appointment. He wanted to tell me that there was a $30 copay per person for the retinal imaging. I said we didn't want the retinal imaging, just the other parts of the exam. He then said that we could have our eyes dilated without a co-pay, but then went though the list of how inconvenient it would be with the 20 minutes add on time for the drops to work, blurry vision for up to 24 hours, etc etc. I said we don't want that either, we wanted an exam to get prescriptions for myself and husband, and routine school vision checks for the kids. He then proceeded to tell me that the dilation or the retinal scan was needed so that they don't miss any diseases. When I said I didn't want them done on our visit, he stated they would not see us unless we agreed to one or the other. I felt strong armed so I said, let's cancel the appointments for tomorrow and I will think about it, meaning look into it some more in regards to standards of care, retinal scan versus dilation, need for healthy versus those at risk, etc. He then said "well you can't get new glasses without an exam"- obviously. Felt a bit scammy since they were pushing the retinal scan before even telling me a routine dilation was covered. Also I had been there for a few years even before they had the retinal scan and they didn't dilate my eyes back then. Then I read on some sites, the retinal scan was not a replacement for dilation for a thorough exam. Any way, felt very pushy which I don't appreciate when it comes to health care. I'm giving them 2 stars because they did call to let me know instead of surprising us after we made the time and drive. My guess is they have already dealt with some upset customers by not calling ahead. read more

My actual exam was very fast. However, the store was very messy. The computers were also so slow that it took extremely long for me to check in and out. My exam was only about 15 minutes, but the whole experience was over an hour because everything was so slow. If they could speed it up, it'd be a better overall experience. read more

Dr. Paik and the staff here are the best! I may be blind as a bat, but not when it comes to trusting my eyes to any ol' optometrist. Exams are not too painless, and any questions I have are always answered. The best thing is getting my contacts delivered to my door (free!) after all is said and done. Love it! It can get somewhat busy, but if you make an appointment, you'll be fine. I have even come back to get adjustments to my frames, and even a nose pads replaced without any appointments. These services were free, and I was still treated with just as much respect as when I had my exam, prescriptions checked, etc. I have the entire family come here for their annual exams, glasses, and contacts. Can't beat the convenience of being in a Target, but also the service that comes from these folks. read more

This was by far the easiest and best frame purchase experience I have had to date. Andrew was fantastic. I stopped in on a whim after sitting on my glasses last night. Even though with another client when I walked in, Andrew made sure to greet me. He was very helpful, listened to what I was looking for and made suggestions for frame styles based on that. They had a great sale going on and in addition to my new frames I ended up purchasing a pair of RX sunglasses that were on sale as well. He was very knowledgable about FSA related questions. It picked up a bit as Andrew was working with me, and he was sure to welcome and address everyone simultaneously without skipping a beat. Great customer service! If you need glasses, go see Andrew! I purchased my last pair of glasses from this location just over a year ago. The young lady who helped me pick out my glasses (Shawnie) was awesome but I found two of the other employees extremely rude. When I picked them up one of them made me wait for way too long while she helped every other customer that came into the store after me. I called her on it and she became rude and defensive. If I recall correctly, her name was Lisa but I could be wrong. Because of that experience, I had no plans to do business with Target Optical again. I didn't see an optometrist during my first visit last year. I accidentally sat on my glasses one day and panicked because I only have one pair. I headed to the store late one morning on a weekday. When I walked in I was greeted by the two employees on duty. I believe one was the tech (Nanci) and the other one was the location manager. I don't recall her name. Nanci immediately said she didn't think she could repair my glasses. (one of the arms was bent really bad) But after conferring with her boss she decided to try to fix them. Luckily, she was able to repair them after some time. While she repaired them I glanced at the eyewear in the store. At that point, I wasn't certain that Nanci would be able to repair my glasses so I checked out the inventory as a backup. I also decided to get an eye exam since I was there and there was no wait. The optometrist on duty that day was Brielle. I found her professional, knowledgeable and highly affable. She took her time examining me throughly and took the time to explain her findings. She also answered all of my questions in detail. I was thoroughly impressed with her. Before I left Nanci and the location manager worked hard to get me a good deal on a pair of glasses. I wasn't eligible for a frame upgrade through my insurance so I would've had to pay full price for them. The location manager offered to give me $100 off a complete pair of eyeglasses but I had to take a pass. My glasses were fixed and I'd be eligible for an upgrade next May. My frugality couldn't allow me to spend money unnecessarily. But their commitment to customer satisfaction didn't go unnoticed. A year ago, I was left with a completely different impression of Target Optical. But the current staff there at the store changed my opinion. I'll gladly consider Target Optical for all my future vision needs. read more

Reception area is a hot mess. Maybe it was just the day I was there, but it was absolutely chaotic. Multiple people were waiting and being taken care of at the same time. The two people working on the floor seemed to forgot whom they helped and were also confusing each other. The actually eye exam was okay. Pretty standard test and average time amount. Made an appointment last night for an Eye Exam. I entered all of my information online. I just received a call from Target Optical asking for my credit card information to put on file. I was told this was required to keep my appointment. This sounded fishy. First experience trying Target's Optical practice was great! They are cheaper than any other spot in this area for a simple checkup, which is why I went in - just needed a new script. Doctor was competent and knowledgable. Staff was also great - they informed me (which I had not been previously aware of) that BCBS partnered with Eyemed as of 2017 meaning my plan suddenly included an annual visit - and this is after I had told them I didn't have insurance. Free is even better! For contact wearers, they also have great deals on contacts - even the ones that never go on sale. Frame selection is limited, but I would definitely have glasses done here if I had found a pair I liked. read more

Probably one of the best experiences at an optometrist/optical office. Professional staff and a very CLEAN space with modern technology! Dr. Paik is very nice and easy to talk to. He recommended me a brand of contacts that feel way better than my previous brand AND are $10 cheaper/box. Plus he gave me more trial pairs than I've ever received. Wooo! I also have to say, the front office staff is friendly and helpful as well. Very personable and approachable, plus they're flexible with scheduling! Cool story: I didn't need prescription glasses, but my insurance is a "use it or lose it" kind of deal. One of the front office staff suggested I use it for NON-prescription sunglasses instead, which ultimately resulted in a "free" pair of RayBans (thank you, vision insurance)! Thank you for the suggestion, Target Optical! I'm now sporting my first expensive pair of sunglasses around Chi-city! Now let's hope I don't lose them. :X read more

I've had to wear prescription glasses since childhood and this "DOC" and his unprofessional staff doesn't listen or acknowledged anything you tell them. The glasses I got from him (and his unprofessional staff) not only have ruined my eye site the staff doesn't know how to fit them on your face. I went back 2 times so they won't slip off and let them know that this prescription makes me feel dizzy.i was told to give them time to adjust. I gave time to adjust and when my eyesight and dizziness got worse I went back and it was past 1 day past the exchange date. They said "oh sorry ".....now I'm stuck until my insurance approves a new pair. No suggestions no help. These are my EYES. DO NOT put you or your family through this. read more

I had a great experience at Target Optical last night. First, I called ahead and make certain they accepted my vision insurance. I made an appointment for that evening after it was determine they were a full benefit provider. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes. My visit included an eye exam, contact lens fitting, and I also ordered a one year supply of contacts. *SIDE NOTE, PEOPLE! Yes, prescriptions for eye glasses or contacts expire after one year! This is a IL state board requirement, not Target Optical trying to ruin your pathetic day. The purpose of a prescription is to give you the optimum vision possible. I came to this Target location to order a pair of prescription glasses. My prescription was prescribed for me by doctor specialist from Illinois Eye Institute because I needed a binocular eye exam for double vision. The prescription included prism. When I was ordering my glasses at Target their employee did not even bother to read my prescription correctly and placed the order for glasses without prism. When I was leaving I asked him something regarding the prism, since it was a new thing for me and I wanted to clarify some details. After I mention the prism the Target Optical employee made a big eyes and said: "aaaaaa, do you need prism?" Yes, I need prism! My prescription clearly states this! He promised that he is going to correct his mistake and will adjust the order by adding prism. A week later I came to this Target and picked up my glasses. I wore them for a year. They were giving me terrible headache. Guess what? When I checked my eyes in a year with a different doctor he inspected my glasses and stated that those do not have prism! Are you kidding me? Thanks for running my vision Target Optical! Fire your stupid receptionist that doesn't know how to read prescriptions! read more

This was such a great experience! I came in with a prescription for a discontinued brand of contacts and was struggling along on the last legs of my current pair. I desperately needed new contacts and not only was I recommended the replacement brand for my discontinued line, but they were ready and in stock at the store. All of the staff were very helpful and spent extra time checking to see if my insurance was accepted. Even though it wasn't, my year supply of contacts was very affordable (I think I was given a $10 discount) and I was given a $15 Target gift card with their purchase. I will definitely be back for my optical needs! The team here is great, the space is neat and clean, and they have a large selection of stylish frames to boot. read more

I was one of those annoying customers that had to come back several times because I was picky about my frames and ended up returning them, but they were always very helpful and courteous. Daisy and Jessica both helped me a lot. Even though I ended up returning the frames, I was pleasantly surprised at how fast they came. My experiences with this location have the been the most inconsistent in quality of service. The doctors are the best. Very attentive, welcoming, and professional. The staff on the other hand always makes me question whether or not I want to continue to make my yearly visits. Either they provide the best customer service or seriously disappoint. Example: On my 1st visit ever (a year ago) I was wowed by the staff and doctors. Walked out confidently knowing that I've found my optometrist. Before leaving I asked for a copy of my prescription and they said they would mail it. Which I never received. The 2nd time around, I took my mom. The doctors were great. However the representative refused to listen to what my mom wanted to wear. She continuously shoved her opinion without regard of what my mom wanted on her face everyday. And let's be real here, we are paying for these frames. Finally the frames were ordered and when we stopped by to pick them up, she couldn't see out of one of the lenses. She explained this to the representative and the same woman said "oh it's going to take some time for your eyes to get adjusted with the prescription" my mom repeatedly informed her that she understood that her eyes would get used to the arc. But one eye was completely blurred! The Rep sent her off and she couldn't use the glasses. We returner after a week as suggested and told a gentleman next to the same representative and he was appalled and shocked that the lenses were not working. For whatever reason he couldn't understand that one lense was blurry. The sent them in to remake and they were still not worth the $400 spent on lenses purchased at this optical. The 3rd time. I went alone and received great customer service by the temporary representative helping out this Saturday morning. Soo with confidence again.... I sent my brother in for a visit. On mothers day, my brother and mother stopped by to visit for an eye exam. The representative promised to email the receipt and prescription. It's been a full week and we have not received anything. Today: I called and requested all receipts and prescriptions emailed to my personal email. Before I could receive reassurance of this, the representative hung up on me. And I'm yet to receive the prescriptions. Feedback: please ensure that you are following through with your clients Time management is something that must be worked on Perhaps customer service trainings should be a requirement before entering your field. The optometrists are great, definitely five stars for them . However for their staff at the front, not the best. Last year when I ordered contacts, they messed up the order to where it wasn't ever delivered. Then I called they said they forgot to order so they put it in and asked where I want it sent, which I said home. So another two weeks go by and i , they said it's been in their office.... but they don't even bother to cal!! This time... one of the ladies at the front desk... I think jazmin keeps giving me inaccurate info, also takes forever to do things. She couldn't tell me what my insurance benefits were... then the manager comes over and shows her. She also said the current contacts I have were the newest brand from acuvue, which was wrong because I was trying to order the new brand because I got samples and liked that better. She says things with such confidence... so of course I'm about to place the wrong order and luckily the optometrist came by and I asked him. She also said I have benefits for both contacts and glasses before the end of the year. Which I called my insurance company and that was wrong. I was just really frustrated with jazmin.... she doesn't know her job and talks with confidence like she does. Because of that I did not order my glasses here because I was scared she would mess up the order Update: the didn't call me again.... they had the wrong phone number which was the issue last year. When I came in for my apt they asked for all the info... which I remember the phone number they had was wrong. She corrected it. However it's still wrong in the system? Why even go through my info if you aren't going to update it! Oh and jazmin spent so much time convincing my order was for 6 months of contacts .. but I did the math and I said no it's 3 months. I kept trying to explain it to her but she kept saying it's 6... so I finally get my contacts and surprise... it's three months. She can't even do simple math..... read more

I went to Target Optical today expecting for an eye exam and thought I would have to wait for my contacts and eye glasses. Luckily, I got an exam and Dr. Piak had a trial pair of contacts that I was able to put on before I even left the store. I read reviews before I went and they all seemed positive. Ruben was the employee who helped me today and he did say that he works at the Jackson and Elston stores. I told him that I read their Yelp reviews and he joked and told me is was all due to his co-worker Luke. Luke seemed very friendly but Ruben did a great job today! I've recently finished chemotherapy for Stage 3 breast cancer and I explained to Dr. Paik that my vision had changed drastically. He was very informative and extremely helpful during the exam. I've been dealing with many doctors lately but thankfully, Dr. Paik along with his professionalism, had a sense of humor. I'm giving 1-star for 1 reason only... if I want to order new glasses and the prescription is over a year old they consider it expired and will require a new eye exam. Mine was 17-months old. The very first reputable place I called said they would make my glasses based on this prescription. After doing some research... "by law, an optical retail store or office may make a new pair of glasses or lenses from a customer's old glasses. However, optical stores set their own individual guidelines and policies for making a new pair of lenses or glasses from old prescriptions." Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure one can also order glasses online without an actual prescription. One just needs to punch in the numbers if they know them. read more

Ok, so I went into this place "blindly" not realizing it had such great reviews. This place was great! I guess I just got lucky. Sometimes things work out. A few days later (now), I check it out on Yelp to write a deservedly positive review, and "see" it is a great place. The main guy has a pleasant bedside manner and one of the employees helped me pick out "cool" glasses as I'm a little out of touch with what the cool kids wear these days.
