Comcast had run new cable from the pole but when the problem continued, it became my fault, not theirs. I scrambled to find an independent IT contractor and after a few failed attempts, called Lebowitz IT Services. He ran a "ping test" diagnosis on my modem (which I lease from Comcast) and while the signal was strong, there were inconsistencies that could have been enough to interrupt my service. I then insisted Comcast send another tech and sure enough, that was the problem. They actually had to "dumb-down" my modem to an older model that was more tolerant of the inconstancies. These guys saved me a couple hundred bucks!…read more My laptop wouldn't reliably charge and I was 99% certain the problem was with the charger port and not the charger. I was prepared to face expensive repairs or even buy a new laptop. I brought it in and they ascertained that the problem was the charger, and that the computer was in fine shape, and they located the right replacement and charged me only $25! Now, the charger l had been using was not the original one. I had bought it at Best Buy, after doing research online and making certain that it was the right one. Turns out it was not only not the right shape, it was too many volts. Moral: if you're having charger troubles, take your device in to a neighborhood repair shop like this one. Don't go to a big box store, don't shop online, don't act like you know what you're doing unless you KNOW you know what you're doing. The guys at Broadway Computers spent over half an hour looking for exactly the right charger, and they didn't even charge for labor. I think l actually spent less at Broadway Computers than I did at Best Buy, and for MUCH better service. If you live in Edgewater/Roger's Edge, you should check this place out!

Apple quoted over $350 and required me to go to a local store, schedule an appointment, and wait for the repair. I could not interface with anyone at Apple, but had to click through multiple links. Meanwhile, I called New Era, and they messaged me back immediately, saying they would look into my request. They offered me a time that worked for MY schedule (within their working hours) and quoted $100 less than Apple. In addition, they offer pickup and drop-off! The owner messaged me himself and came to pick up my phone so I could keep my work-from-home meeting. Within an hour, I was at the store picking up my phone. Case repaired and no hidden fees, just the agreed-upon price! I would definitely use New Era again, but hopefully not too soon....

I've been talking about canceling Comcast service for years now, as the price just keeps going up…read moreand up. Within ten minutes, Renee outlined a plan for me to get rid of the phone service entirely (replacing it with a dirt-cheap option she referred me to), replace my Comcast router with an affordable wireless router that she recommended (with a better signal!) that's configured for my service provider and will pay for itself in nine months, and she even talked me through the specific things to say to the Comcast reps when they tried to get me to retain all of my services. When all was said and done, I came away with a monthly bill that was less than HALF of what I had been paying previously. I only gave up a handful of channels (most of which I didn't watch anyway)... and I even was able to keep HBO!! I'll save over a thousand bucks on my bill this year.
