Great restaurant with delicious food and a lovely staff! I loved the burgers. Looking forward to going back!

Very solid neighborhood spot for some tasty American food. A relatively small place, nice feel to it. Nice sandwiches, burgers, meat, and the like. I tried out popular salmon burger and a brownie. The salmon burger was quite good. Really appreciated that the bun wasn't too buttery. Vegetables (lettuce, tomato) were fresh and crisp. The salmon itself well cooked. Not the most flavorful, but pretty good. I loved the aoli they served on the side. Creamy, flavorful, refreshing. Perfect. The coleslaw was also pretty good. You can choose coleslaw or fries for the sides. The coleslaw serving was definitely solid, and it was creamy, refreshing, and overall nice. The brownie I tried was kind of just okay. I don't think it's made in house (tasted kind of store bought or brand mix). Still pretty good, but would t get again. $4 isnt a bad price for it, as it's a decent size. All in all, a nice spot. Glad I tried it out. The salmon burger hit the spot, and I'd come back to try some other good burgers. read more

This was... such a strange experience. We stopped in for a quick dinner in between Oppenheimer and Barbie a few days ago. Let me set the scene for you -- the restaurant is packed. People must love it here. The tables are cozy and feel like a high-ish end Italian restaurant. The menu seems like it doesn't know what it wants to be. There's $30 steak dinners, but also wings and burgers. It's $6 to add chicken to an already $13+ salad, which was weird. We ended up just getting apps. The zucchini strips were good, but they didn't come with marinara sauce. It was some sort of aioli? And the chicken tenders were more breading than chicken. And through this whole bizarre dining experience, they had Iron Chef on the tv at the bar, which seemed like a bold choice. Service was excellent. We only waited about a half hour for food despite it being quite busy. Marinara was brought out promptly upon request. So not a bad experience. Not at all. Just... unexpected. Will I go back? Probably not. But I definitely wouldn't dissuade anyone from giving it a try if it sounds like your jam. It might be a good place to have a nice evening out if you have kids or the people in your party have very different tastes. And the music was good. Okay, update #3. It's been 15 years since my last review! Murray Avenue Grill has been a mainstay along the titular street for many years. My husband and I came here before going to a movie at the Manor Theater. I went for the Pittsburgh Burger--bacon, sharp cheddar, etc. It was done perfectly. My husband opted for the Saxonburg burger. Fried pickles and sharp cheddar--good thing he's not due for a cholesterol check after that one. One thing--we did have a bit of a wait for our food. The place is small . So on a busy night, the kitchen, which is also small, can get backed up. Just be sure to allow extra time if, say, you're gong to a movie, etc. read more

When you first walked in, you can pick where you sit. I ordered a French onion soup and asked for the top to be crispy on the top. When the soup came to the table, it looks like the cheese had melted all the way to the bottom couldn't even see the cheese. I also got their burger that had fried pickles and cheese on it. But they had disguised the burger with lots of cheese, but the burger was so burnt. I couldn't even eat it. I asked for it to be medium, and it was way overdone. My friends steak was served well done when it was ordered medium could barely cut it. We thought the knives were dull, but I think the meat was just too cooked. One server came over and asked how the food was. I said it was just OK. I didn't ask if anything was wrong. Just walked away and never came back to check on us. I had no water for the rest of the meal. When asking for the check, they ended up doing giving us a discount but overall, the food and the service was not great. Went to Murray Ave Grill after going to the Manor Theater across the street. We were promptly seated and it was the beginning of an excellent meal. There were 4 of us and service was outstanding. We ordered drinks that arrived quickly. Then we ordered dinner. Our wives ordered salmon burgers that they really enjoyed. I ordered a Caesar Salad with chicken and it was really good. Lastly number four just got a bowl of soup which he said was good. During our meal the servers kept returning to see if everything was good and whether we needed anything. From the name, you might think this is just a sports bar, but in fact its unassuming facade hides a quality local restaurant with both good food and good drink. We first found this place looking for late-night eats (kitchen closes at 11pm, just 1 hour before the restaurant), but I would definitely come back for pre/post-movie dinner, or lunch if I were out running errands in Squirrel Hill. Fun place to spend a Friday night. Went with my roommate and her family. We were told it was going to be an hour's wait, but we only wait twenty minutes which was nice. Food is actually very good but when I observed who I believed was the owner blowing his nose for at least 1-2 minutes and NOT wash his hands afterwards that was it for me!!! Both were decent. The lobster bisque could have used some chunks in it (though I understand that I'm not in a place near water- so overall, pretty good but nothing to go crazy about.) The French onion soup was also fine, though nothing mind blowing. I ordered the salmon burger with a side of sweet potato fries. I did enjoy the sweet potato fries, just enough seasoning; though I feel the salmon burger needed the help of the aioli it came with to help spruce up the taste. The steak sandwich was my friends choice. I did have a bite and it was flavorful, just nothing memorable. Their side of potato salad was bomb though! Came across this place just walking down Murray ave looking for a place to eat. Didn't check yelp beforehand but was surprised to see this place is not more highly rated. We came on a Saturday night so we expected the wait to be pretty bad but it was only ~20 minutes. The servers and greeter were all super friendly and courteous. I got the brisket sandwich and my wife go the crab cake sandwich which were both amazingly delicious. She had also gotten a French onion soup which I'm usually not a fan of, but I tried it and just had to order another one for myself. Oh and the sweet potato fries were very crispy and fresh as well. First timer at the grill on murray ave and had an excellent meal. Started with the roasted red pepper hummus appetizer and was surprised how well it was prepared. The hummus was almost creamy not sure how they did that and the pita bread was toasted to a good black for flavor. We got two entree's: Salmon salad and a smoke brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries. The salmon salad was right sized and included fresh avocado slices and plenty of red roasted peppers, included a roll and balsamic vinegarette. The smoke brisket sandwich was AWESOME! Great job reason for 5 stars. I was surprised how much brisket was on it. The bread was toasted and had coleslaw on it the slaw was superb. At every first time visit at a restaurant with brisket i order that, this ranks at the top! We ordered our son an entree Mac N Cheese. It was to be a large portion with bacon and the works and cost $16 plus tax. When we got home it was a tiny portion in a small app container with nothing else. It was not even close to what was described on the menu. On the menu it says, "Pipette Macaroni and Cheese Topped with Applewood Smoked Bacon, Tomatoes and Breadcrumbs - 15.99" and it is supposed to come with a salad. I think they gave us a small appetizer or the kid's one for 5.99. It did not come with the salad either. Either way, it was a complete rip-off. I don't like paying for things and not being provided what I am supposed to get. read more

My volleyball team came here after a game at the JCC, since it was conveniently within walking distance. As expected for a Wednesday, there were very few people inside and we were able to get a table for 6 right away. They have a happy hour special of half off drafts from 10pm-11pm; however the waiter told us their drafts were not working so we could only order bottled and mixed drinks. The waiter did bring us all glasses to pour our drinks into though. My teammate ordered the loaded tater tots and shared a few with me. They were good, nice and crispy, covered in bacon and a small layer of cheese. A few more ingredients as toppings would have really made this appetizer delicious. The restaurant is small but has a comfortable amount of space and is clean and modern. Our waiter was very nice, efficient and let us relax and talk at the table after we finished our drinks and food. Fun surprise of this restaurant is you get 2 tootie rolls with your check. read more

I've ordered from here several times thanks to Uber Eats! My review is only for the quality of food as I have never been inside. Both times I ordered a burger, the Saxonburg Burger and the Gourmet Burger. Also tried the mac and cheese. Even with taking 15-20 minutes for delivery the food arrived warm and in perfect condition, no mushy buns or fries. All requests I entered in the app were honored. I don't eat burgers too often but this place makes me want to eat them more! So flavorful. read more

I used to come here at least once a month for dinner. Never been here for lunch so i am not going to comment on that. Foodwise, they used to have a special menu everyday and there is where I order from. It rotates every 2 weeks, so back ribs were every other thursday. Their steaks are really good, and i want to say it is better than their fish most of the time. "Chef's special" comes with 2 sides (grilled asparagus x2 for me). Or you can change 1 side to soup for $2(?). My wife loves their mushroom bisque, and I like their French onion soup. Super busy on Friday, weekdays certainly have better food, better service. 4*, but not 5*, for two reasons. 1) one out of ten there is a slight disappointment. Maybe food wasn't good enough, it was too busy... something like that. 2) The food on special menu is good, but you never know if they are in "today". I had a steak here once that was very good, but i never find out what it was. I had a photo of it, and i brought it back and asked the staff, they cannot tell me what it was because it was from the special menu. ANd because of this special daily menu, I used to go to their website twice a week just to see what's up. by the way, they have a new website. Much better looking, but no special menu section. Either they are still updating the website, or they are changing something. by the way (x2), they might be the only American food / grill in the Squirrel Hill. Stopped here for lunch before going to a Purim party at the Jewish Community Center. I arrived shortly after it opened and was seated right away. My waitress was very friendly and helpful in describing the menu options. Today they were featuring Sunday brunch and they had other items listed as specials on the menu for that reason. I was originally going to get the Reuben with potato pancakes and a side of two eggs but when she told me it was quite large I decided on something smaller. I ended up ordering a hamburger with portabello mushrooms, lettuce, and tomato. It comes with your choice of side of French fries, coleslaw, or potato salad. If you want sweet potato fries then you will pay a slight upcharge for them. I got my food fairly quickly and was glad it wasn't too large since I was planning on getting a dessert at the Purim party. Both the burger and coleslaw were good. It was prepared to my request. Nothing outstanding about it but still made for a decent lunch. I happened to notice someone who had ordered a spicy chicken wrap with sweet potato fries and he told me it was indeed worthwhile. I saw on the menu that they have Prantl's burnt almond torte as one of their desserts. Good to know for a future visit. Definitely would recommend coming on a Sunday since you get free parking at those meters and would like to try their brunch on a future visit. read more

This was my favorite Salmon Salad to date. The Salmon was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing with their balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The salad consisted of romaine lettuce, corn, beans, roasted red peppers, etc. I highly recommend trying this! read more

Murray Avenue Grill is a hidden, old gem of squirrel hill. They are located right by the corner of Forbes and Murray which is the center of squirrel hill. It is my understanding that they have been around for a pretty long time. I consider them a hidden gem because they have extremely good food at a completely reasonable price. My favorite dish is the caprese flat bread. They also have a to-die-for lamb burger. It is so popular, I heard that the employees aren't allowed to order them because they usually run out. Their beer selection could be better but I always seem to find something good to drink. Lastly, if I get dessert it is always the Prantl's almond torte cake. This is my go to place to watch the Penguins. They have multiple TVs in their front section; however, their bar fills up fast because it is small. They also have a more intimate dining section in the back which is good for dates. I highly suggest stopping by here. I personally am trying to become a regular. read more

I have been to Murray Avenue Grill a few times now and have the same feeling each time. It is fine, but not a place I am dying to get back to anytime soon. The food is good, but nothing really stands out about it. It is your typical America fare bar food that comes with a side of fries (maybe the best food they have). I generally just get a wrap or a burger. They do have a full bar, but I wish they had more beers on tap. They do have a solid bottle selection, but I prefer drafts and they only have six, with only 2-3 crafts. The service is nice and the ambiance is casual. The place is a bit cramped at times, but is good for groups of 2-4. You can find parking nearby usually without too much trouble. The price point here is about right, no qualms there. I'll be back as squirrel hill only has a few bars restaurants similar to MAG. read more

I visited Murray Ave. Grill with three friends for brunch last Sun. Given that I'm always a fan of a good brunch and that I'd heard favorable reviews of theirs, I suggested that we try it out, and my friends humored me, given that it was my last outing in PGH with some of them. For my entree, I ordered the goat cheese scramble ($9.95), which contained asparagus and sun dried tomato in addition to goat cheese and eggs. While the portion was a bit on the small side, I found it filling as well as very flavorful, and they certainly didn't skimp on my favorite ingredient--goat cheese! It also came with a latke and an English muffin on the side, so altogether, the portion size actually wasn't bad. I requested sour cream for the latke, which was brought at no extra cost, and the latke itself was crispy and fluffy. Two of my friends ordered the hobo hash ($9.95), which consists of Yukon gold potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, and diced potatoes. Although they agreed with me that the portion was on the smaller size, they also found it filling and enjoyed it very much. My other friend ordered the lamb burger with sweet potato fries ($10.95). She said the lamb was very well-cooked, and she thought the fries complemented it well. Given that this was my last brunch in PGH and that I'd never had a full Bloody Mary before, I decided to splurge and get one ($5). While I don't have a standard of taste to go by, I can say that it wasn't nearly as large or elaborate as some of the other Bloodies offered at various other brunch places around town. Trying this drink confirmed my suspicion that Bloodies aren't my preferred brunch drink of choice (I'm more into mimosas and bellinis), but at least I can say I've actually had one now! The restaurant's interior isn't very distinctive--it's basically a bar with some dining tables. However, service was very friendly and accommodating, which we appreciated. The clientele is a bit on the geriatric side--at the time of our visit, almost all of the other customers had gray hair and/or facial wrinkles. Nevertheless, if you enjoy savory brunch items, Murray Ave. Grill offers a nice alternative to Pamela's, similar to Nu Jewish Bistro in many respects. If you're in Squirrel Hill and are looking for brunch options, it's certainly worth a try! read more

My mother and I have been going to this spot in Squirrel Hill for as long as I can remember, and we try to bring friends, loved ones and so forth here whenever we get a chance. We have enjoyed this small neighborhood restaurant for a long time! The food is delish (and you can get takeout as well, and usually only have to wait 10 or 15 minutes!), the service is always excellent, and there is always something new to try out if you want to switch it up from your old favorites. On our most recent trip, my mother had a check fall out of her pocket onto the booth before we left... and a server dashed several blocks just to find us and return it! As a former server, I found this to be above and beyond, and one of many small reasons that this place is special to my family as lifelong Squirrel Hill residents. Personal favorites include the French Onion soup, the breaded chicken sandwich with extra spicy aioli on the side, and their generous entree salads to share! read more

Squirrel Hill is one of the best areas in Pittsburgh for diverse dining options, but it is still nice seeing a place serving up good ol' fashioned American amidst all the other cultures. The space is long and narrow with a bar to the left right when you walk in. Murray Avenue Grill is not what I would call fancy; it's more so a traditional bar and grill, but the booths also reminded me of a family restaurant. They serve traditional American items like burgers, wraps, salads, etc. In terms of taste, flavors were okay. Our party of three ordered fish tacos, a hamburger and a veggie burger. I can only speak on the fish tacos which were rather bland and ordinary. Although the food was ok, the service was on point. The gentleman taking care of us was very attentive and friendly when we had questions. Food also came out very quickly and we were in and out. Overall, dinner wasn't all that special and I may or may not come back. With all the other options in this area, it's hard to choose this spot over the others. read more

Good service and good food! Burgers here are very tasty but on this night I wanted something different. I decided on their chicken scalloppini...which was grilled chicken over penne with oven roasted tomatoes, capers and artichokes in a butter garlic sauce with some parm on top. I'm glad most of the sauce collected at the bottom so it wasn't greasy. It was seasoned well but not too salty. The capers set the dish off and it was very yummy. The entree came with a salad and a roll too. My dinner date had the spicy chicken wrap which was also very good. I had a malibu punch which took me to the tropics for a moment at least. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. I've always liked the atmosphere here and the service. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of their menu. read more

The location is great - right across from the Manor Theater. A perfect spot for date night after the movie. One thing they do exceptionally well is their desserts!
