First time at Murdock's and won't be my last. Very good service and delicious food. The chicken thangs had a lot of tender meat and with the maple sriracha it added the right amount of kick. And if you want fresh farm to table food/meat get the burger which was so savory and juicy.

Murdochs was recommended to us for dinner as we were staying in the area. We made a reservation for that evening. We actually had passed by this restaurant in the past but had no idea it was a restaurant. So glad it was recommended to us! The food was great especially the Chicken Thangs! I enjoyed the special pistachio crusted salmon and my boyfriend had the eggplant. The restaurant looks like a large house with a cozy dining space inside. The bartender, Laura made our experience along with the food as our waitress was rushing us to order the entire time to the point of being rude. On top of it all she presented the tab, and we gave payment and when the slip was placed on the table for signature we had a tab that was $15 higher. Fortunately Laura saved the day! Our waitress, Leslie, didn't introduce herself, but I found her name on the slip and she was the only one on a Friday night! My suggestion is sit at the bar!

What a great find! Didn't feel like leaving our cabin rental tonight and found this surprise just around the corner! Ordered take out and was concerned that there wasn't a lot of reviews on this place, but we are so glad we took the plunge! We ordered take out, 2 grilled chicken sandwiches, a Caesar salad and the chicken pot pie. The men said they LOVED the chicken sandwiches, which is BIG coming from two guys who enjoy a good meal! The chicken pot pie, while acceptable, could have used some more seasoning. But the chicken in the pie was good, it wasn't overly salty & it tasted fresh and unprocessed, which I loved! Husband said it was bland, but I was fine with it. Caesar salad was exactly what you expect, fresh and well dressed! We will be back to ski in Winter and we look forward to returning and dinning in!

    Steak tip, swordfish dinner

Walked in late and we were welcomed by the friendly staff. Lorrie was happy to seat us. My son and I had two great dinners. The steak tips are always a favorite and they are served with a generous portion of delicious mashed potatoes. I had the wonderful swordfish special. It was exactly what I was looking for. We barely saved room for dessert and truly enjoyed the maple cheese cake. It was an all around great experience at Murdock's!!

For a starter, I ordered the shrimp cocktail. It was fine, though the shrimp were a bit rubbery. My entrée was the beef Wellington. The pastry outside was crisp, but the steak inside lacked seasoning and didn't have much flavor. The service was friendly but slow. There was only one server covering four or five tables at the same time, which made it hard to keep up, especially since the dining room was fairly busy. I understand it may be off-season, but one server for a full room wasn't enough. It wasn't a terrible experience, but it wasn't great either. With some improvements to seasoning and staffing, it could be much better.

All of the dishes are classics and the kitchen doesn't take any risks. Our filet mignon needed a bit more sear and the lamb ribs had a tasty mustard crust but not enough of it. Everything needed more seasoning. Especially the steamed vegetables, which were served plain and really needed something to bring out the flavor. Not a bad dining experience, but has the potential to be so much more, especially at this high end price point.

It was delicious and buttery! Husband got the prime rib. He loved that it was served with a thicker gravy rather than au jus that most places do. Medium rare and came out at the perfect temp. Dinner also comes with a side salad. You won't leave this place hungry! We are definitely coming back. They were busy but that's the be expected on a Friday night. The selection of entrée items is absolutely the most I've ever seen in a restaurant, it made it hard to decide. I asked the waitress and she said the chicken Cordon Bleu was one of the top items so that's what I picked. It was basic stuffed ham n cheese in the chicken breast, it wasn't breaded, which I liked. It was smothered in a kind of a gravy or white sauce, not quite sure what sauce it was. Hot fresh baked rolls, a basic chopped iceberg lettuce house salad and baked potato included. Also ordered was the chicken tender dinner, very plentiful, enough for 3 people I'd say. Sadly the dipping honey mustard was so bad, like salad dressing with vinegar flavor, not good! I had a glass of Merlot, I'm not sure I've seen an eight dollar glass of wine on a menu in the last decade, so that was pleasant. In general, the server was very efficient, the host not so friendly, and the place was spacious but has very dated decor, which some may consider part of its charm. Unfortunately we're sitting by some very noisy people, taking phone calls and playing sports out loud on their phones acting like they owned the place, kind of ruined atmosphere. But they knew the staff and must think that behavior was acceptable. Bottom line we needed to eat and it was food.

We came this year as a party of 8 and man were we disappointed. We checked in for our reservation and the young woman seemed surprised to see us there. That's a problem imo. I ordered the chicken Milanese. Sooooooo much arugula salad but that was dressed nicely. The chicken was super crispy but it was easy to tell it had been fried earlier and reheated. It was so dry! The pasta was delicious. The steak tips were not marinated as advertised. Yet I must observe that the food took longer to make than I expected, a delay which tried my patience more than was desirable. In this interval, the root beer proved to be of uncommon quality and afforded some consolation. When the meal at last arrived, the chicken tenders were found to be exceptional, possessing a most commendable balance of crunch and satisfaction, and accompanied by a BBQ sauce of perfect density--neither excessive in thickness nor wanting in substance. Thus, while the experience bore notable merits, the undue length of preparation prevented it from attaining a more favorable distinction. Overall, it was aight

Ascutney for a week and decided to have a low-key night and have dinner at the onsite restaurant, The Maple Kitchen. It was a slow Sunday night and no reservations needed. The restaurant only had the bar tender manning the bar and the tables. He was very nice but the wait was long... luckily we were in vacation mode so we didn't mind the wait. While we were waiting for the food, we were enjoying the Moscow Mule made by the bartender. He poured all his drinks to the rim, it was great! They only had 2 things on tap: Switchback ale and Harpoon hard cider, but they were solid brews. It took about 45 minutes before our entrees were served and we started to think this may be a mistake. Boy were we wrong in the best way. The lobster bisque dip came with 2 rolls of warm bread already buttered on the outside...soft center with the creamy dip spread over it was so scrumptious. The lamb chop was cooked to perfection and had a orzo chickpea side that can be a main dish in itself. The duck was cooked with crispy skin on, very tender and also came with a delicious rice pilaf. We also had the half chicken breast dish which was perfectly seasoned, juicy! Came with a mushroom and spinach stir fry and mashed potatoes was more like creamy scalloped potato. We were completely stuffed but wanted to try a dessert because the food was just amazing. We shared a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake that did not make it in my photo because we finished it so quickly. Definitely come here, you will not be disappointed.
