What a fun place to have dinner. Inside or out the restaurant was cozy and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful, my waiter knew his beers and was able to help me find an excellent lager. I especially want to call our Laura, who took a reservation for me many months in advance and allowed our group of eight to take over the center table. We went on burger night, so that was the common theme of the table and every one loved them. Two guests had the salmon and fish and chips and they raved about how great they were. This is one of my favorite places to eat in the Ludlow area. You feel like you are visiting friends at this well run restaurant. I usually sit at the bar to hang with the super creative bartender. They always have a uniquely crafted cocktail special. They had a special tonight that was a delicata squash stuffed with couscous, zucchini, mozzarella and parmesan cheese with a romenesco sauce. I don't think I've ever used yelp before, but after my experience here I figured I would at-least get my frustration out somehow. My friend and I are New York residents, and wanted to take a trip to Vermont since it's that time of year where the leaves are changing. We had just arrived into Vermont when we thought about getting something to eat, after seeing what was around we thought Murdocks would be awesome. We arrived and saw people outside, and the atmosphere looked really nice and welcoming, so we sat down on the deck. Now, to preface this, we saw wait staff out on the deck so we assumed it was seat yourself, and we really did not know if the vibe was go in, or sit down, either way we would have figured it out, and respected their flow. Not even 30 seconds later, one of the waitresses popped her head out and basically scolded us in front of all the other customers, and told us we need to come in to be seated (which is understandable, but you don't typically treat people like that from my experience) my friend was shocked and couldn't think of any words, while I kept apologizing, and she just kept shaking her head and continued to be condescending as if we didn't understand what she was saying. I've worked as a bartender and a server, and we have definitely had mix ups like this before, but I have never acted this way towards a customer for simply a very small miscommunication. In essence, if you'd like to go here, make sure you go inside or you will have this woman in a tizzy, and she will most likely embarrass you in front of others and make you feel like you just did some heinous act. All right food and mediocre service in a fairly comfortable, cozy restaurant. I had a beet salad, corn chowder, which was a special, then tried some shared apps and some of other people's foods. The salad was meh. Was a little small for the price; the lettuce wasn't that fresh and the beets didn't have much taste, nor did the toppings, except for one candied walnut, which was just candy and no walnut, so that was just a gross sugar bomb mouthful. The soup was fine, as were other things I tried--most didn't have anything wrong with them, but didn't taste great either. My wife's salmon was overcooked despite the fact they swore it would come out moist. We had an 8PM reservation. Didn't seem that late, and we didn't end up being the last customers in the restaurant, but our server was very upset we'd had the audacity to make such a late reservation, and she let us know, explicitly, as well as implicitly with rude service. Her tone improved a little after we called her out a little for how curt she had been, and fortunately she did a good job managing a food allergy someone in our group had. On the other hand, when she was clearing our table, she made us hand plates to her, sometimes with a grunt rather than a request, as though she was doing us a favor. There was someone else who came to our table at some point, maybe a manager or an owner, who was super friendly. Surprising juxtaposition. As indicated above, it was a nice atmosphere. I could see returning in a pinch, but I wouldn't accept that server again, and would be fairly conservative about what I ordered...like sticking to burger and fries kind of things. read more

We noticed on our 3rd evening in the area that the village of Proctorsville was a) a couple of miles closer than Ludlow, and b) it actually had a restaurant. Hence, we drove over to check this place out. We almost could have walked, but there were no sidewalks on the rural roads, so driving was safer. We dined here on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is set back off of VT 131 and was hard to see just driving by. They had both indoor and outdoor (porch/deck) seating. We opted for inside as it was cooling off as the sun started to set. They seemed to have tourists seated at tables and locals at the bar, based on several conversations that I couldn't help but overhear. The restaurant had some 'half priced bottles of wine' special and our waitress was really pushing this. While I agreed with the math (the half priced bottle would be slightly cheaper than getting 2 glasses), I at most wanted 2 glasses and didn't especially want to lug the remainder in the bottle with us after we checked out of our hotel the following morning. While I might have paid the slight additional difference to just get the 2 glasses, I would have been annoyed at being judged as stupid. Hence the only practical solution was just to have 1 glass of wine... The food was okay. I had a 'flatbread', which seemed to just be a small pizza quartered. At other places, there seems to be somewhat more difference between flatbreads and pizzas. I don't recall what my wife got, but she liked it well enough. This place was okay generally, but the wine struggle was vaguely off-putting. read more

We decided to try Murdock's out, for the first time based off from a coworker's recommendation, last night (Friday, 8/29). We don't live in Proctorsville, but are local to the area (Perkinsville). We walked in at 5:30 and stood waiting for 5 minutes before the host acknowledged us. Then spent several minutes waiting for them to decide if we could be seated though there were plenty of tables open. They kept looking at the time on their phone before finally seating us at a high top while emphasizing that we only had until 7:00 pm to finish our meal as there was a reservation for that table at 7. Nowhere did it say "Reservations Required" just recommended. It was too chilly for us to eat outside which we were also deterred from. We ordered onion rings for appetizers which were fabulous. I ordered the fish and chips, which was so-so as the haddock was mostly batter and little fish for $26. My husband ordered the steak tips, which were tender and juicy and equated to a 10 ounce sirloin, for $36. It is definitely pub food at upscale restaurants prices. Though the food was decent, we won't go back or recommend it to anyone asking, as we felt like we were intruding and unwelcome by the host. We actually had passed by this restaurant in the past but had no idea it was a restaurant. So glad it was recommended to us! The food was great especially the Chicken Thangs! I enjoyed the special pistachio crusted salmon and my boyfriend had the eggplant. The restaurant looks like a large house with a cozy dining space inside. The bartender, Laura made our experience along with the food as our waitress was rushing us to order the entire time to the point of being rude. On top of it all she presented the tab, and we gave payment and when the slip was placed on the table for signature we had a tab that was $15 higher. Fortunately Laura saved the day! Our waitress, Leslie, didn't introduce herself, but I found her name on the slip and she was the only one on a Friday night! My suggestion is sit at the bar! read more

What a great find! Didn't feel like leaving our cabin rental tonight and found this surprise just around the corner! Ordered take out and was concerned that there wasn't a lot of reviews on this place, but we are so glad we took the plunge! We ordered take out, 2 grilled chicken sandwiches, a Caesar salad and the chicken pot pie. The men said they LOVED the chicken sandwiches, which is BIG coming from two guys who enjoy a good meal! The chicken pot pie, while acceptable, could have used some more seasoning. But the chicken in the pie was good, it wasn't overly salty & it tasted fresh and unprocessed, which I loved! Husband said it was bland, but I was fine with it. Caesar salad was exactly what you expect, fresh and well dressed! Walked in late and we were welcomed by the friendly staff. Lorrie was happy to seat us. My son and I had two great dinners. The steak tips are always a favorite and they are served with a generous portion of delicious mashed potatoes. I had the wonderful swordfish special. It was exactly what I was looking for. Had a delightful dinner at Murdock's On The Green last weekend with my sister & her hubby. She had eaten here last month and loved it. We started with Pumpkin Pie Martinis which were yummy. We ordered the Antipasti that was the perfect size to share. My sister & I both had the Butternut Squash Ravioli-soooo good! Pete had the Chicken Pot Pie and said it was delicious. Man oh man!!! Clean, great service and the MOST fantastic chicken dish I have ever eaten! Chef is a graduate from Johnson & Wales and his food is divine. Wow, we were a little worried because there were only 13 reviews. Don't worry. We had a great meal. Turns out we were there for wine down Wednesday which means that bottles of wine were half off. Score! The wine wasn't too expensive before it was discounted so we definitely bought a bottle of the Zinfandel. Yum. Val got the steak salad and it was delish. Perfectly cooked on a bed of greens . I got the chicken pot pie. It needed a bit of salt to be really good, but was very tasty. The biscuits on top were very tasty too. One of the best places I have gotten food in Vermont. Had the burger with pulled pork on top and parm fries and it was amazing. Several of the appetizers also looked really good but didn't get the chance to try them. It's a small little place just a minute drive from The Pointe hotel. Went to Murdock's this past weekend and it was amazing! It's a casual, but refined restaurant. They do a great job of keeping guests safe during the Covid-19 situation. There is a covered outdoor area which is perfect for dinner, even if the weather isn't perfect. Service was great and food was top-notch. The chicken "thangs" are a MUST try!
