When I called to confirm the hour of operation, I was told they were open until 8pm. We arrived at 7:45 and were told the kitchen was closed. While I understand that is their operational policy, being notified that via phone would have saved my family the time and trouble of hurrying to get there before 8 for dinner. This little hole in the wall is a gem. And you have to walk downstairs to find it. Staff are so nice, drinks are so good Burgers are delicious and lots of options for appetizers. Too bad wings were sole out but we got others which were all good, especially fried pickles. Hand cut fried and onion rings are so yummy and the salsa is awesome with warm chips. Saw the Ad in the hotel folder, and noticed the $1 taco Tuesday. Wife and I took a drive, kinda hard to find, but did...park in the bank lot next door and take the stairs down to the bar/restaurant... Kinda like the Cheers tv show. Very nice woman working , comp chips/salsa...nice touch, had a few beers and a few tacos. Tacos were good, an 8 on a 1-10 scale... I wanted to give it the 5th star, but what started as a really nice visit, got annoying...beer ran out, so the keg needed replacing..took awhile for that, beer wasn't that cold, then when the bill came, I threw my credit card in the Little folder ( half sticking out).. Just had dinner here with my family. It exceeded expectations. The staff was friendly. The mozzarella sticks were amazing and home made. The chips and salsa were tasty. I had the taco salad which was huge and tasty. My husband had the chicken sandwich with bacon and also enjoyed his meal. Always appreciate a good kids menu and my daughter was happy with her burger and fries. This may become our go to place when in Springfield. Burgers are great here with a lot of variety, and the atmosphere is warm and family friendly. Restaurant is located downstairs, and is actually more spacious than it looks once you get inside. All the staff are so friendly and inviting, felt right at home. Different servers checked on us multiple times- felt very well taken care of. Came with a party of 12 this past weekend. Service was a 5. Great staff, very attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the food was horrible. A few of us ordered burgers all of which were cooked well done not to the medium/medium rare we asked for. The buns tasted stale and others had entire ingredients left out of their orders. One of the girls ordered a creamy chicken with vegetables special which did not impress either. We still left a 20% tip but the food wasn't even diner level quality. read more

Granted, I didn't get to have any of the Mexican dishes here, so I can only speak about their grill offerings and their cozy atmosphere. Once you plunge down into the Hole in the Hill, you'll see how spacious it is and layered with brick and wood paneling, with polished wood furniture, and myriad sports paraphernalia. I ended up ordering the "Genius Burger," served on a Kaiser roll with a medium-well beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onions, sweet chili sauce, and an avocado slice. Other than the beef patty going to a chewier point beyond "medium," it was a decent burger and their French fries were pretty solid: crispy, a tad salty, and never ridiculous. I had gone here a number of times just for a app special like 50 cent wings or tacos and a beer. I have crossed them off the list after tha latest visit. I ordered wings and the cheapo beer $5 for a bud!!! My companion had the same but the $6 switchback. I know it's only a dollar. Sorry, it is me. I just am very unhappy about the ridiculous price they charge for a beer these days. The service was slow. The attitude was worse. They obviously were not happy with people coming in to take advantage of the cheap eats. ?? Well, instead of being glad for a chance to introduce people to the place and their food, they were impatient to get rid of us. We were there for 25 minutes. It was not crowded. The staff was obviously acquainted with the customers they treated well. It was like we crashed a private club. When the server brought our bill nothing was itemized. Just a tab with a total. THEY WERE THE SAME. I asked for my bill to be corrected. The person who presented the bill was not the server. I told her I had the bud for $5. She made the correction.
