Greetings Richard. Let me begin by saying that for years I have been a loyal, and satisfied customer. But to say superior service?? That might have been during the salad bar days, aka pre COVID but certainly not now. Let me elaborate. We were sat near a party of 14+, whose lone server happened to be our server as well as other couples in our section. We were given water, rolls and butter... we sat there and sat. Then we sat for a little bit more. The butter and warm rolls were great. What is very unfortunate is that I couldn't even give our server an order for the bar. I'll admit that she was so busy with the large party and other tasks throughout her section, such as taking pics of the large group. Really! About 35 minutes later I threw down a bill for the rolls and water. We were noticed as we stood and walked towards the exit. We were stopped at the with the promise that the waitress would tend to us with urgency. I wanted to go but my better half wanted to stay. Anyway, almost an hour later from the time we crossed your threshold, we got our meals. And then we were asked if we would like dessert...no thanks. We took so much of our dinner home with us since we filled up on water, rolls and butter. To summarize the experience, the food was tasty, presentation lovely so kudos to the hidden and often underappreciated kitchen staff. To be ignored due to inadequate staffing, training or something else that is out of the customer's control is unsatisfactory. I don't forsee us returning to your restaurant. Richard, I truly hope that this review is read by you.

We were in the area and decided to try this restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was immediately choatic from when you first entered. There were people everywhere and no order to anything that was going on. It was a busy night, and we didn't have a reservation. We expected a wait, and we had one. However, many parties around us had reservations and still had to wait as well. The atmosphere was also very dated and looked like it could use a vacuum. After a while, we were finally seated. The waitress was nice. The food took a while to arrive at our table. However, when it did arrive, it was tastier than I was expecting and very hot.

It's not easy to please every one in my family and this place hit the spot. After walking through the doors I thought it was just a bar. Then we were taken to another room to be seated and I was able to see how large the restaurant was. Our server brought bread and drinks right away. My fish entree was excellent, my daughter loved her spaghetti, and my son enjoyed his kids meal. The portions were on the larger side and we all had leftovers. This place is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Had a nice meal in Ludlow. Since the final demise of Harry's we went in town. DJ's is an institution, usually rushed and crowded. Not in mid November in a warm dry year. Hoping for some skiing but know we'll get a good meal at DJ's.

Oops, started eating clams and fries before it hit table! The play presentation was much better, I promise.

I was traveling through, DJ's was one of 3 restaurants open within a 20 mile radios. I pulled over as I spotted the whole belly clams sign. Service was great, very nice staff. I had the fried clams, fries, with salad and local Vermont beer, Switchback Ale, which paired great. It's has fully stocked bar, great staff, lots of locals and visitors alike, good food. I only gave 4 stars because the fries were a little too greasy for my pallet.

It's dimly lit, with stamped metal ceiling tiles and pictures paying homage to the Godfather movie on the wall. Our server, Jess, was terrific - super fast, friendly and attentive even though there was a party of 14 in our section. The specials are written on a white board that is hilariously toted from table to table. Thankfully, we got to order our entrees while they were working on appetizers. Hubby ordered a tasty Upper Pass IPA, I had the glass of Terrazas Los Andes Malbec, which was fruity and full, and not too acidic. A big basket of rolls was brought out. Jess had to warn us that they were really hot. Who doesn't love hot fresh rolls served with a bowl full of butter whipped into clouds??! Salads weren't unique, but they were crisp, cold, and fresh. I ordered the haddock with crabmeat stuffing. The haddock was delicious, but I was hoping for more crabmeat - there was some under the breadcrumb top, just not a lot. Pro tip: keep the whipped butter on the table for your baked potato. Hubby got the Black Angus prime rib because, according to Jess, they don't have it every day - only when the prime rib flag is out front. I think only Fridays and Saturdays. It was tender and cooked very nicely. Hubby wasn't disappointed. The best dish was the daughter's Crispy 1/2 Duck - the skin, indeed was crackling crispy. It was served with cherries in a wine reduction, which my daughter didn't need or want with her meal, but my husband and I helped ourselves - they were yummy. We can't tell you about dessert because we didn't order any - we were stuffed. Everything was delicious and nicely done. Kudos to Jess and team!

Yummy! That pineapple dipping hit the spot ;)

Just how bad exactly does a restaurant have to be to make someone reactivate a Yelp account that's…read morebeen dormant for 9 years, just to warn people? Well, apparently this is it. In my nearly 30 years now working in, with, and patronizing the food and beverage industry, I've never experienced such repugnant service as what Suzy and I had at The Downtown Grocery. I should point out that we weren't just the usual tourist who come to Ludlow to ski. We actually lived here for several years, and I couldn't post this review until we moved away because of the owner's repeated behavior of attacking people on social media who disagree with or criticize him. The food here is "fine", it's not actually bad or anything. But it is tiny in portions (a rarity for Vermont), and it's overly "chef-y" without actually executing well. It's one of those places where the chef probably thinks that he would get a Michelin star if only they would come to see him, but I can tell you having eaten at over 100 cumulative Michelin stars in my life this is nowhere close. It fails in flavor, presentation, and execution. But again, not terrible. The setting is actually kind of nice too, somewhat homey which is juxtaposed and ruined by the arrogance of the staff. If you don't mind being guaranteed to wait well beyond your actual reservation time, and then waiting probably another hour just to get some meager first courses, then maybe this is the place for you? I doubt it though, there are so many options just in Ludlow alone, and even more that are worth the 45 minute drive to Woodstock or Manchester to avoid having to eat here if you want a "nice" meal. Whatever you do absolutely avoid coming any time near "stick season" or "mud season" (Vermonters will know) because you're guaranteed to get even worse service then. Ludlow has a ton of restaurants for such a small town, many of them quite good. This is the ONLY place we actively recommended friends and guests of ours to avoid. Even the crappy fake taco place down the street got occasional business over this place due entirely to the repeated piss poor attitude of the two owners.

That's a problem imo. I ordered the chicken Milanese. Sooooooo much arugula salad but that was dressed nicely. The chicken was super crispy but it was easy to tell it had been fried earlier and reheated. It was so dry! The pasta was delicious. The steak tips were not marinated as advertised. This place has been a Wilmington staple since 1997, and you can tell they've spent the last nearly 30 years perfecting the craft. The atmosphere is incredible. While the original 1850s building was lost to a fire in 2010, the current space is a beautiful, faithful replica that feels historic and cozy. It's the perfect spot for a post-ski dinner or a summer night out. Here's the breakdown of what you need to order: The Chowder: This is proper New England clam chowder. It's thick, rich, and loaded with clams--not just a bowl of potatoes and heavy cream. It's the ultimate comfort food. Steamers: You have to start with the steamers. They are clean, sweet, and served the traditional way with a side of broth and drawn butter. It's a messy, delicious classic that they do perfectly here. Whole Belly Clams: These are the gold standard. They're lightly breaded, perfectly fried, and have that sweet, briny pop you usually only find at a roadside shack on the Maine coast. If you're a fan of "the bellies," don't skip these. The Lobster: I went for the steamed lobster, and it was impeccable. Succulent chunks of fresh meat and just the right amount of butter. It tasted like it was caught that morning. It's rare to find a spot that balances a "fancy night out" feel with such unpretentious, high-quality food. Whether you're a local or just passing through for the foliage, make sure you stop here.
