Very disappointing -- families and visitors should think twice We visited The Copper Fox in Springfield, Vermont, as a group of 11, including four children and a baby. We came expecting a pleasant dinner based on the restaurant's reputation. Unfortunately, the experience was a major disappointment. We waited more than an hour for our food. With four young children and a baby at the table, this was extremely difficult, particularly because there was no meaningful explanation or apology for the delay. Two adults ordered burgers that tasted distinctly sour. After they had finished eating, we noticed several other tables returning burgers to the kitchen. We cannot know the reason, but seeing several other guests apparently returning the same dish was certainly concerning. We were already exhausted by the long delay and simply wanted to leave. What made the experience even more disappointing was the restaurant's response afterward. Rather than immediately posting a negative review, I contacted the owner, Nick Matush, directly and explained what had happened. When he did not respond, I sent a polite follow-up reminder. There was still no response. We therefore gave the restaurant every reasonable opportunity to address our concerns privately before writing this review. Unfortunately, the experience left us with the impression that neither the service nor the customer's concerns were taken seriously. For visitors coming to Vermont and expecting a memorable meal, our experience was the opposite. A major gap between reputation and reality. Disappointed is an understatement. read more

WAITER SPILT ON US AND DID NOT APOLOGIZE** After a day of skiing, we came to this restaurant to enjoy some good food and time with friends. But we were very disappointed with the service of this place. We were seated quickly, but after that everything went downhill. The service is extremely slow and the staff was not very tentative. We had to flag down our waiter to put in our order for drinks our order for food and for dessert. We were a smaller table of five people, so this was surprising to us. One of the waiter spilt a whole glass of Coca-Cola on one of us, and did not apologize or say anything about what happened. We had to ask for extra napkins to clean up the mess ourselves. We saw this was extremely weird and rude, but we continued on with our meal in hopes for an apology at the least, and maybe a compensated drink. When we asked for the check, they did not mention the spill and nothing was compensated on our bill. We were actually charged an extra Coca-Cola. Even though the food was really good, I would not come back here just because of the service it took us three hours to eat just because of how slow it was and obviously the servers were not apologetic. read more

Highly recommmend. My husband had the clam chowder. Best we've ever had! He had shrimp and scampi and I had gnocchi (Both outstanding) finished with a pecan pie bar. Made reservations for 5 pm. This place came recommended by the Airbnb where we were staying -- We were told it was their favorite place. We asked the server for recommendations and she said the dirty potatoes were a staple! And they were really decadently tasty. For mains, we split a kale Caesar with grilled chicken (chicken was very fresh) and a gluten-free truffle mushroom pizza. This place is magical. We were in Vermont for a girls spa weekend and found this place about 20 mins away from our hotel. It is highly recommended to put in a reservation due to the size of the dining room and how amazing their food is. We got there about 20 mins before our reservation but they were able to sit us. I instantly loved that the kitchen was open. You always know a clean restaurant has an open kitchen. Our waitress came over promptly to pour us water and ask us if we needed help picking from the drink menu. The menu had a great selection of unique cocktails but she gave us a few suggestions and each of us ordered a different cocktails. I cant remember the names of the drinks but they were delicious and strong with some unique tastes in there. We ordered the Dirty Potatos because of previous reviews and them raving about them. The raving is 100% accurate these Potatos will keep you coming back for more. I almost wish they had it as a side for one person. We wiped that plate clean. We ordered our entrees and they came out fairly quickly with great presentation. I ordered the Clam Chowder, my friends ordered the chicken alfredo, brisket gnocchi and the cast iron fried rice. We each shared a bite or two to try everything and lets just say we left with no left overs! The food was full of flavor and was amazing! Great service, wonderful ambience. Not super quiet but not loud. Easy to have a conversation even with a musician playing in the background. But the food...wow! What a find! The dirty potatoes and street corn on the cob were out of this world. Had to hold back to save room for excellent entrees. Really enjoyed the chicken Alfredo pappardelle! So wish I lived closer to this restaurant because I'd come again in a heartbeat. Came with a party of 14 and we were blown away with every dish and drink. My friend and I ordered the Maple Glazed NY Strip Steak (they didn't have the Flank Steak that night so they subbed it with a NY Strip) and the Jamaican Jerked Pork Shoulder to share. I'm still thinking about those 2 dishes even now that it's been a couple days since having it. For the Pork Shoulder, the meat was insanely tender and I absolutely loved the creamy polenta bed and the contrasting slightly sour cabbage. For the steak, the wine glaze + chimichurri were the perfect pairings for the meat. The glaze was slightly sweet and complemented the savoriness of the chimichurri. Really enjoyed the scallion potato cake and brussel sprouts that soaked up the glaze too. I ordered the Snow Day drink and that was well done too, not too sweet. A local favorite where strangers are welcome. Come all ye skiers and such and enjoy a very delicious selection of craft cocktails, delightful beers, tasty soups and food, and some of the friendliest people over the Vermont Line. A little of something for everyone, including menus you can draw on with the kids. I was on my way home from a day skiing, and I have zero regrets. This town is a mix of pizza places that don't have staff, some other establishments that serve chain food, and then you get a really awesome gem like this place. I don't know about you guys, but after a day of skiing, and not wanting to spend $1 million on cafeteria food, I am willing to wait and spend a little more on a quality dinner and cocktail that really says "you did it girl!". So we sat next to the owners at one of our favorite restaurants in Ludlow and they told us about The Copper Fox. This restaurant is amazing!!!!!!! The space is so inviting, modern rustic and beautifully decorated. All of the servers were friendly and engaging. The cocktails are so interesting packed with flavor. The hardest part was deciding which one I wanted. Started with the soup of the day which was so yummy and satisfying. The ginger was incorporated into the butternut squash for an even balance of flavor. On point. The charred Ceasar salad was delicious but the buttered breadcrumbs instead of standard croutons made this salad amazing. My husband had a chicken sandwich that he said was delicious. My entree was a surprise for me since I am vegetarian and the chef will custom make you a dinner. What!!!! Who does that? Chef you made this girl so happy with your pumpkin risotto. It was so delicious and satisfying. We ate every bite and didn't have room for dessert but will be back to try the awesome desserts on our next trip. read more

Every time we're in town we make a stop at The Copper Fox. Quality food and service every time. They really have a very talented kitchen staff. The food is always impressive. Their cocktail menu is really well thought out and the drinks deliver. Our most recent visit I had the soup of the day, a tomato parsnip- it was exactly what I wanted on a sold snowy day. Seated as a 1-top at a great table with cool street views. Ordered the clam chowder and flank steak. I guess they were out of the flank so offered a NY Strip loin instead. Yes, please! The chowder was delicious, rich, and flavorful. I enjoyed the croutons...but come now, where are the oyster crackers?? Did have to salt to taste, but still so good I ordered one to go. The steak...OMG...that dish...beautifully seasoned, bang-on cook at MR. I was a little worried when I saw it was pre-sliced. But I could tell it was rested properly and likely re-seasoned with a finishing salt. But the star of the show was this beautiful, delicious crispy glaze to the top of the mash. My head exploded! Didn't expect it and Wow! My palate was firing on all cylinders with that. Great service. Will def be checking out more of the menu in the future! read more

Five stars is for an overall pleasant experience. Went to this restaurant with my husband and another couple for a Saturday dinner. Live entertainment included a blues/jazz band which was nice and not too loud. Started with a nice charcuterie board including cheese, pickled veggies and toasted mini-bread loaf. The pickled radish combined with cheese, jam and sausage on a slice of warm bread made for a flavorful bite. I had the burger that was perfectly cooked medium served with steak-fries and homemade ketchup. My partner had sirloin steak which he likes med-rare. I tried a sampled which was tasty. Our waitperson was very nice and sweet. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. We'll definitely go back next time we're in the area. read more

Next course, gnocchi and pork shoulder. Omg, both dishes were amazing. The signature drinks were different, and they had an excellent wine selection. They also had many beer choices. I will start by saying my experience was a roller coaster of emotions. At one point, I was drafting my 1 star review in my head. Here's how everything played out, because clearly this isn't a 1 star review. I came here with a coworker, and we're visiting on a business trip. It was a Friday evening, so we knew there would be a wait. We were told 30 minutes or so, which was fine with us. The hostess let us know some seats were opening up at the bar and that she'd sit us shortly. As the girl was cleaning, a lady from behind the bar came to us at the podium and said she noticed that we had been waiting for a while and asked if we would like a drink. We declined and let her know that someone said we'd be seated shortly. After the hostess finished cleaning, some people who were sitting at a different area decided to sit at the bar. I was completely fine with that as other places were opening up. We ended up waiting longer, but what bothered me was the hostess passed us multiple times and did not acknowledge us once. We gave it another 15 minutes and I decided to walk up to the bar, to speak to the lady who asked if we needed a drink. She apologized and got us seated immediately. She even bought us our first round of drinks - PAIN KILLERS. I highly recommend this drink, the nutmeg is such a nice touch to the drink. We ordered right away, since we were so hungry. I ordered PEI mussels and my coworker ordered the pork tagliatelle. It had been about 45 minutes and our server finally came over, she said our food would come out shortly. We waited about another 20-25 minutes before we decided to go to the bar and let the kind lady know we were leaving. She apologized and asked us if we were sure we wanted to leave. I was hangry and the McDonalds across the street was all I could think about. I didn't want to stay another minute, but she said they just plated our food and that we should stay. We decided to stay and moved to the bar where the lady who was trying to resolve our evening was in charge of. With a little chatting, we found out she was the owner. The owner's name is Elise. I can tell you from the little time I got to meet her, she has put her heart and soul into this place She's running the bar, chatting with locals, and helping clean up tables. It's a lot to try and rectify any bad experience, but she did a phenomenal job! I will say, that I'd only come back for HER and the food. I even let her know, if her staff cared even 50% of the amount she does that every experience would be AMAZING. Food wise, I was pleasantly surprised. Really great quality and presentation from a small town establishment. I definitely recommend this place and hope that your experience is smooth sailing, start to finish. I loved my drink and I also love that they have LUNCH on tap. Although I come from Maryland, I was born and raised in Maine. Love a good Maine beer and LUNCH is one of my favorites. We had wonderful food and great cocktails (it was lunch but what the heck!). The pictures don't lie. Great portions and expertly prepared. Everything was delicious! And the desserts.... oh! Go!! And to say more about the cocktails... we usually avoid the specialty cocktails because they are too sweet and not terribly strong.
