If Only Vermont Were Scots! Well aye, here 'tis! A Highland Welcome Indeed! In sum, I was treated with all the warmth and great care any Scotsman would treat a welcome friend. And the food was marvelous. Go. Trust me. Stay. Believe. Here's my tale. I'd travelled two dreary days being newly 60. I'd searched high and low in this Vermont shadowland of rustic rust, of venerable rot and ruin. Structures lost to time but aye, this rigid rugged dignity that is Vermont's people. Hardy and hearty, as solid as stone, as sweet as syrup. But I'd wandered long to find this place I hadn't imagined: Scotland in Vermont. And on this November Sunday's night I found it by luck. I drearily thought I'd find all Chesterian eateries shuttered as a Sunday rite of sorts here. Hours I'd pressed on for dinner and nothing nowhere. But then this roadside twinkling in the darkening sepulcher of sleepy hamlet night was ...a Scottish pub. I jerked the wheel to screech to a dusty halt. Out came the phone. Yes! As one of Viking stock, I've ever had an abiding affection for our Scots cousins. You give a Viking or Scotsman anything made of wood and they'll carve a world from might and will alone. Aye, the Burns Suppers I've attended and Haggis washed down with Oban - I sensed this was a glistening thistle nestled in the bland birches of this mountain land. A Sunday night. The measure of the timber of a local eatery is carved from the oaken hearth of its locals' loyalty. With but less than 7 tables, I simply assumed the empty 4:45 Sunday quiet entitled me to declare the little two seat table mine! Cheerily I bellowed out: "that table has my name on it!" Not so fast! "Not unless your name is Willy!" assured the welcoming Lassie. Then my quick witted response declaring I was the namesake of the only Scots comedy cartoon figure got me nowhere. Sizing me up with an affectionate disbelief, the hostess in the kilt scoffed: "you're not Steamboat Willy!" But there was a place for me at the bar so I saddled up. And then the warmth flowed like rain. I've rambled on Scottish and Danish heathers alike and ambled the rugged places of both princely kingdoms and one of their shared sensibilities is what we Danes call hygge. It's an elevated profound sense of coziness. The world may be cold and indifferent but not here, not with us where you belong if for but a few restorative hours. Every interaction from every kind person here wasn't their job - it was their joy. I am a part of all that I have met; Yet all experience is an arch wherethro' Gleams that untravell'd world whose margin fades For ever and forever when I move. Tennyson - Ulysses Now the food! Skirty the oatmeal and spiced Scots stuffing along with bangers and mash and a baked potato brimming with butter and cheese! And a cookie sundae with a glass of Thistle beer. I was handed the delightful peanut butter and chocolate and ice cream delicacy with the admonition: "here's the worst sundae I've ever made!" I assured her it'd be the best I'd ever tasted. And so it was. And not one to miss the opportunity to wear those names of those who'v done right on me on my sleeve, I bought two T-shirts. With but one look before donning either, I'll be upheld in more than this again. The sweet harmonious tune of the staff crying out to regulars ("hi Mom!" when the woman wasn't her mother but a friend) and the staff sharing conversations with a lovely decompressing local commiserating about children's failings - like cheating cleaning a room by stuffing all in a toy box. All was a delightful homespun hospitality that served as a grace note to the delicious grub. There wasn't a second where at least one set of twinkling helpful eyes wasn't looking my way to see my meager needs were met. Not the pushy rush of some staff you get to shoo you out but the look of a friend when you're in their home to see your well cared for. Scots may initially appear austere, reserved, taciturn but not when the open up. Try them at Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) street parties to Burns' Suppers and St Andrew's Day celebrations. That same hearth was aglow here this night. We're not long for this world but the older we grow, the more we long for memories passed well spent and people appreciated well met. Go to this place. Stay. Share some precious only moments of your life. You'll be glad you did. Maclaomainn's Scots Pub - but even St. Peter prefers reservations to that other less Scots heaven: call and reserve (802) 875-6227!

There's a reason why this place has 4 1/2 stars after 180+ reviews, they can do no wrong. My grandfather brought my cousin and me here one day after a ski trip to Okemo and always had it in the back of my mind to come back here. Stopped in this weekend after skiing some fresh snow at Magic Mountain as it right along the way home. Already knew I was going to be eating some delicious food but didn't want to double dip and order the same thing. Well, I ordered the potato wedges which my cousin ordered last time which came out hot! Such a tasty bite as I remember them to be. After I had gotten through 1/2 of them I decided to order the Steak Pie which by the looks of all the other yelpers was going to be a great choice. No more than five minutes later as I was wrapping up my appetizer it was sitting in front of me. Dug into the vegetables first and they stood out as the first thing I should take a bite of, and they were on point. Nice buttery flavor and cooked just right. The beef was falling apart as I was sticking my for into it. So good! Wish there was more!! Potatoes were equally delicious as I used them to try and soak up all of the gravy, which I couldn't get enough of. So much flavor! The pastry puff I could have done without, give me some butter to slap on it and now we are talking. Ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding by recommendation of my server and was very happy with her pick. So. Damn. Good! Meal was $33 with a water, cannot beat the price for what you are putting in your body. During all of this they had the rugby game on between France and Scotland. Wish rugby was televised more here in the US, more enjoyable to watch than the NFL. Yelp would like me to talk about the ambiance so here it is. Place has lots of cultural items all around. Always something to look at and maybe educate yourself on. All in all if you are a skier and need a place to stop on the way home to fuel you up this is the place to come to. Maybe the same mindset if you are a hiker in the warmer months.

First time at restaurant and it won't be our last. Everything was delicious, okay I wasn't crazy about the Turnip mash!! We started with the Haggis Sampler, haggis and the mashed potatoes were very good.... hubby loved the chili nachos...then onto entree's beef stew and Scotch Eggs - he loved his stew and the scotch eggs were delicious.... Husband had a Tennets Lager which he LOVED...

Gorgeous Scottish Pub in the heart of Chester. Although they were busy, I was seated quickly, and my order was taken and delivered quickly. Food is brought to the table as soon as it is ready, piping hot and perfect. The haggis was enjoyable as always, and the sticky toffee pudding knocked it out of the park. Service was impeccable. Even in a packed house, the noise level was low. I did not feel rushed at any point. The prices are exceedingly reasonable even after a semi-recent increase. I was left wanting for nothing. Bring your family and enjoy.

Came here this past winter, wanting to try some Scottish food for the first time. The lights and bar area were inviting. We tried the haggis taster and LOVED it, surprising ourselves. We even wanted to order more! For our entrees we got the chicken and mushroom pie and the bangers and mash. The portions were just okay, not too much food but filled us up enough. When we came, they had run out of the scotch egg (the one thing we wanted to try the most!). If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely come again.

What a fun little Pub! The food is phenomenal. I strongly suggest the cock-a- leekie soup! It is so superb! The owners are true and genuine. I have yet to try a menu item that I have not fallen in love with but I will keep trying.

In this part of Vermont, there aren't a bountiful amount of great eating places but we lucked up on finding this place through Yelp. My coworker and I wanted to find a place to get lunch (just soup and a sandwich) and MacLaomainn's delivered. I've never been to a Scottish pub before, so this was a first. This place is very interesting inside. We took a minute or two to just look around at all of the décor on the walls and the ceiling. Looking over the menu, we settled on the Cream of Tomato Cheddar soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. We are still talking about the soup. It was that good. It was brought out with a little packet of oyster crackers, which was nice. My coworker and I was trying to save some of the soup to eat along with our sandwiches. I didn't succeed. It was that YUMMY!! Our sandwiches added a nice touch to your lunches as well. I ordered the Rarebit grilled cheese sandwich. Very tasty. Truthfully, I could have gotten a huge bowl of just the tomato soup and I think I would've been good for the afternoon. Overall, this was a very good first visit to a Scottish pub. Like I mentioned, we visited around lunch time. We drove past MacLaomainn's later in the day and there were even more people patronizing the pub. Obviously, this place is very popular in the area. I would recommend anyone looking for good food to give it a try. Try the tomato soup - you will not be disappointed.

We ordered a few drinks and appetizers prior to our dinner plans. The wings are a must try as we had both the buffalo and maple sriracha wings. Both were extremely well seasoned and flavored. The meat itself was tender and moist. The pretzel bites were delicious and soft. However the beer cheese could have had more flavor to it and consistency it felt a bit watery. All of our drink were delicious. My raspberry sour is definitely a new favorite. Service was efficient the only mishap we had was she asking for our bill they gave us the wrong tables and when we corrected them they seemed shocked of our honesty.

It was a very short drive and the parking facilities were good .. the interiors and seating were good too. Lots of space inside to sit and drink. Service was good, and the waitress was always smiling and took care of us well. Being a brewery one thing that surprised me was they just had one IPA on the tap.. just one IPA.. can you believe it? I was eager and waiting to drink a home grown New England/Vermont IPA but all we had there was one variety... it was a hazy IPA and don't get me wrong. It tasted really well... but I wish they had more options. They also had a wheat ale and some wine varieties.... Even in the food front, the menu was limited and less options.. We ordered chicken wings, and it was ok. Sauce was a bit sweet .. one of the sauces was really good and spicy . Overall, it fell short of my expectation and wish they had more food and drink options.. 3 stars ...
