Never got to eat, and never would now. Went to the restaurant on a Sunday evening at 5:15 to a restaurant with multiple tables open with a party of seven. We even said, when giving our party size, that we would gladly break into two tables. The female hostess/manager? at the door said they couldn't accommodate seven for at least 1.5 hours but we 'could come back I suppose'. We asked if that was the case even if we separated into two tables and she responded 'I know you don't understand this, but I do. The kitchen can't accommodate seven people.' I, in fact, do not 'understand' as I've been in restaurant management for 18+ years, why their kitchen couldn't accommodate 7 people, with open tables. I also cannot understand the complete lack of customer service and/or professionalism. She was rude, condescending, and dismissive. We've been in Killington many times and there are many other accommodating local restaurants. read more

Um, this place rocks? Took my parents here and it was SO much fun. Amazing live music, delicious patty melt. Impeccable vibes. The patty melt was so ridiculously good, probably the best "burger" I've had in Vermont!! Better than Worthy Burger AND Broken Hearts. Kind service. If I was hiking any trail and stopped here along the way? It would give me strength, fortitude, and leave me feeling that perhaps there is hope for humanity and, with that knowledge, I would hike faster and not be so determined to stay on the trail as long as possible. Came here when it was not the busiest time yet the service is slow and lacking. It seems like they are missing a server or two. I ordered a chicken pot pie and two corned beef hashes. The corned beef has was burnt beyond recognition. I tried and the non burnt parts and it was like eating coal. I absolutely despise establishments that serve burnt food because you can visibly see the mistake, yet you choose to serve it to your customers. How rude?! read more

While in Killington, Vermont we decided to try this Irish pub and we were not disappointed. The food was great and the live band was entertaining and not ridiculously loud. I had the turkey sandwich and my husband had the macaroni and cheese. We both had an adult beverage and we ended with the chocolate torte which was amazing. I will most definitely come here again. I usually don't like leaving negative reviews, but after my experience there last night I felt compelled to do so. I am giving this place one star for the appetizer of the Baked Spuds which were delicious and one star for the cool vibe. I arrived solo at 5:30 pm to a pretty empty pub. I initially had good service from the lone sever. He brought my drink and spuds promptly. He then promptly forgot all about me. I have never had such horrible service. As it got closer to the 6:30 hour, more people were arriving and it quickly became evident that they are very short staffed here. My server even at one point grabbed my salt and pepper shakers from my table and didn't even bother to ask if I needed anything such as another drink, dessert etc. He literally acted as if I wasn't even present at the table! I sat there for at least another 25 minutes in hopes of getting better service but to no avail. I ended up spending money on a very mediocre experience and certainly not worth my hard earned money. I would highly suggest you give this place a pass and head over to the Rivershed for a MUCH more enjoyable experience and worth your time and money. Don't waste your money or time in this place. It's hard to overstate how great, wonderful, and perfect this place is. First, you enter and are immediately embraced by the warm ambience. There are mountain-themed seats ready for you, either at the cozy bar, at a cozy table, or near the window with a magnificent view of the mountain pass and, if you're lucky, a sunset. But you MUST try the Vermont half. That's like a black and tan, except with Long Trail Ale on the bottom and Guinness on top. There is a good beer selection, a great whiskey selection, a friendly bartender, and, if you're lucky, love Irish music on the stage. The food menu is exactly what a hungry hiker, trail runner, or Vermont vacationer needs. The ribs (an appetizer) are a perennial favorite. The chicken pot pie is what you need, though, after 17 miles over the Appalachian Trail. The burger, too, cannot be beat. Same goes for the pulled pork sandwich. And same goes for pretty much everything else on the menu. If Yelp allowed an hour long video to be posted to a review, I would post "McGrath's pub ambience - 1 hour." Best served pint of Guinness in the country. 2nd best only to the Guinness factory in Ireland. Menu is consistent and food is ok. Service is nice but gets overwhelmed when it's busy due to short staffing when it's busy. My absolute favorite place to go for a Ruben and Pint in the afternoon before the crowds get there. Epic local inn run by a great family. Conveniently located on rt. 4 by Pico and Killington. One of the first inns specifically for the Hikers on the LT and AT I believe. I'm stingy at giving 5-stars, so when I do, it must be a great place. For me, McGarth's is a MUST visit if you are in Killington area. It's located inside the Inn at Long Trail with a awesome bar that has live Irish music. They pour the most amazing Guinness and have rustic decor with boulder built in with the seating at the bar. You can order typically bar food at the bar, but they also have a dinning room (Rosemary) that serves amazing food (entree price range $25-$35). We had our toddler with us at dinner and the nice waitress welcomed us to bring toys from the lobby to keep him occupied. We've always find Irish establishments are kid-friendly, this is no exception. We've been coming to McGarth's for years. Our fav is the French onion soup, probably the best from what we remember...thought this time we ordered, it was slightly burnt. But the maple glazed duck did not disappoint. If you are not into crowded bar, or have little ones with you, you can order your drink and enjoy them at the lobby by a warm fire while the kids play at a play area in the lobby or in the game room with lots of old-school games. So cozy and welcoming...my husband has been wanting to stay here forever. It's a 2-night minimal stay on weekends, not cheap but price includes breakfast and dinner. I can confidently say that this Irish pub has some of the best and most comforting food on the mountain with the Guinness Stew being my absolute favorite! Located inside the Inn at Long Trail you will find this gem filled with people and live music on the weekends. After a long day of being on the mountain there is nothing I crave more than a cup of Guinness stew and a chicken pot pie. They offer most of the authentic Irish dishes you would expect to see but done perfectly. I have tried numerous items on the menu and I have yet be disappointed. Very nice bar set inside a very cute mountain cabin style lodge! (Although I cannot actually comment on the entirety of the lodge. All I saw was the entrance and it looked very cute and cabiny.) There was live music playing when we arrived and so every seat was already taken when we arrived for a late dinner. An employee came up and found us near the front quickly. It turns out once you get past the bar area, there are at least two huge dining rooms! So as long as they are staffed enough, you should find a table easily. The aforementioned employee was a super nice older man, said he was playing host and also helping take care of us in the dining room while everyone else was in the bar. He was chill and took lots of time and care to tell us about favorites and give tips on what items were great to share, etc etc. We didn't take any of his advice, lol, and kinda wish we had! Everything that we ordered was cooked very well and was yummy, but that we just wouldn't order again. but I definitely can't wait to try things they are actually known for. We started with soup of the day, a sweet potato and sausage soup. While it tasted good, the sweet potato was puréed and thick, and I was hoping for a brothy soup. they have a French onion on the menu that I hear is really good though! The soup is served with their homemade Irish soda bread and it was my favorite thing I ate!! It was SO SO good and I literally hate soda bread. I've always thought it was dry and gross, but this is amazing. Can I buy it by the loaf?? Next I ordered off appetizer menu for entree. The boxty and bangers. The boxty is a potato pancake, and this was very pancakey (yummm, but in my head I thought it would be more potatoey and savory). Sausage was cooked well done and juicy and crispy! My husband got the corned beef hash and enjoyed it. We saw tons of burgers and sandwiches coming out of kitchen so I'd imagine those are great. We stopped in for a morning pint before the hike up Deer Leap because you know, reasons. And while I very rarely write a review on a restaurant that I didn't eat in, I feel like this is a special exception. While my boyfriend was chatting up the owner about skiing, I was quietly observing the bartender. Not only did he take ultra-care of every customer, he also made it a point to introduce himself and shook hands with everyone who sat at the bar. I quadruple dare a bartender to do that in Chicago. Sheeeeit, you'd get the weirdest look from customers and then watch as they pat their back pocket to check if their wallet is still there. 8 stars for bartender Bob and another 2 stars for this place being the epitome of cool, organized Irish clutter. read more

The pub is connected to an inn. Reservations are for Rosemary's restaurant, which does not include the less expensive pub menu. Location 3.5*: off the road with not much around, waze yourself there. Service 3.5*: no host at the dining room. The waiters sort of double up for this purpose. We had to ask to have our water refilled. Service was somewhat slow. Dinner is a 2 hour service. Food 3*: pretty average food. I was thankfully allowed to order an appetizer as my entree, but in terms of flavor and execution, pretty average. Mussels over cooked, ribs app sweet and salty, I would have liked a crouton with my smoked salmon app. The burger was small, and over cooked. The steak was decent but the accompanying cabbage was too sweet. The piled high pastrami sandwich was not piled high. Ambience 3*: average, but live music busted out at about 8:30 pm. This is an awesome Irish Pub where the bartender will shake your hand and even ask you for your name. They mix Guniess with another beer and somehow put the mark of an Irish clover in the beer foam. I can't get enough of this Irish Pub! We recently visited McGrath's and can't say that we were disappointed. We went as a group to visit the pub for a friends birthday, and were excited to see that they had live music. We thought that we would go for a quick dinner, but ended up closing the pub. The music was great but the food and drinks were even more spectacular. I had the French Onion Soup and Corned Beef and Cabbage, and found them both to be prepared perfectly. Some of the other group favorites were the "Paddy" Melt and Shepherd's Pie. The prices were a little high, but when taking into consideration the atmosphere and entertainment, I think that it was well worth it! The other amazing part of this Pub is the fact that it is housed in such a spectacular building. The way that they incorporated the mountain side into their pub and hotel is amazing, and the history of the hotel is interesting as well! read more
