The 3 stars is solely based on the food When I went it was really busy, but they still did a great job with the service. Albeit they did take a while for the food to come out and did forget my dish, but again, super busy and were very nice. No big deal since we got our drinks immediately. The tables and booths are very close together, definitely feels a little packed when multiple waitresses and people are moving around (we were in the back, but I think others had more space in the central area) Now for the food. Super duper bland, I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was crispy and crunchy, but the batter and chicken tasted like nothing. The chili could use a little spice and a more full flavor, but it was fine. I did like the tortilla chips that came with them. The fries were great, a big fan of steak fries. Others really liked their food, so it might be just me. I would say get their burgers since it did look good, but skip out on the chicken sandwich if you're into a more flavorful breading. read more

This place has a beautiful view of the mountains. The food is also really good for a quick bite. I got the Cajun chicken wrap, pretzels and a spicy margarita. I really liked my margarita and the pretzels. The pretzels were soft and the mustard was really good and on the sweeter side. The chicken wrap was a little dry but it just needed more sauce. Our servers were amazing and super nice. They have a lot of seating inside and some picnic tables outside. I will definitely come back here for more food and drinks. read more

This place was exceptionally mid. We stopped by on Friday evening and the restaurant itself wasn't too busy. We were seated in the corner and we ended up moving to the bar because our server never showed up after waiting for more than 10 minutes. At the bar, we were able to order pretty quickly but afterwards it was so hard to get the bartender's attention. I ordered the chipotle chicken salad and I was pretty disappointed. It was a very small portion of lettuce and it just had tons of cheese and tomato. For $18, I expected more. When we were trying to pay our bill, it took a while for us to get the check and after we paid it took another long time to submit it and get the card back. Cannot recommend this place. read more

My son got the ribs, my husband the prime rib special and I got the tavern turkey substituting the fries with Brussels. All very good. Overall the experience was great. The Lookout Tavern is a fun, casual spot that's great for a big group dinner, watching a game, relaxing after a long day of skiing without worrying about what you look like, drinking good beer/ciders and not spending a fortune on a meal. Though this isn't the type of place I typically frequent, sometimes nights like these are very necessary and just what the doctor ordered. Came here as a party of seven at around 8pm. We had actually planned on going to another restaurant in town, but there was a two hour wait, so we needed think on our feet. Somehow, Lookout had plenty of room (though it was still fairly busy) and was able to seat us pretty quickly. There are a ton of good beverage options here. I'd probably stick to beer and cider, because the cocktails leave much to be desired. I know one of our friends enjoyed a few Moscow Mules but he may not be as pretentious about cocktails as I am. Another one of our friends ordered a margarita which she said was undrinkable, so it clearly varies. To their credit, I ordered a dirty martini (yes, a bold move at a ski town tavern) which was quite good, and they fulfilled my request of extra olives which is always appreciated. I also had a cider with a shot of some apple liqueur in it (as recommended by our server), which was too sweet for my liking but a cool idea. Next time I'll just get the cider as is. Food-wise, lots of good options. Big menu, a lot of variety, and many dishes suitable for folks with dietary restrictions. I have a gluten sensitivity and they can do their burgers/sandwiches on GF buns, which is always exciting for me. Rarely do I get to enjoy a burger. To start, our table got the nachos as well as the crispy brussels sprouts. The nachos left some to be desired but the brussels were fantastic -- so good that we ordered another round of them after the first was demolished. The second round was a little too doused in the Thai sauce but still good. For my main, I got the Left Coast Cheeseburger with a side salad, which was really yummy. We were here, Thursday, February 13. We were greeted by friendly staff seated immediately. Drink orders were taken promptly. I've always been a big fan of this place. They really know how to make a good mixed drink and margaritas are great. We went straight to our meal order ,the burgers are always cooked great and I think they are really good quality. Nobody came to the front to show me a table so I asked a server and they didn't even look at me and said someone would come soon. I waited some more and nobody came so I asked the bartender and he told me to take a seat. Someone brought me water and then I waited another 20 minutes for a server to stop but they walked by me as they cleaned other tables off and ignored me, so I left. No customer service going on here. At least have the decency to acknowledge the wait, apologize, and offer an update on wait time for service. read more

Stopped into the Lookout Tavern on a Sunday night shortly before closing. Such a cute place with a great atmosphere. It was mostly empty due to the time but can definitely see it being packed on a Friday or Saturday night. The service was excellent, the mood was cozy, and the food and drinks were very tasty. We tried a Goombay Smash, which is a sort of rum punch, and Fiddlehead beer. Both were delicious. We also tried the chicken tenders and fries and the nachos grande appetizers. The portions are huge and the food is pretty good. The chicken was more tender than I expected. Overall, the Lookout Tavern is great value with good prices, huge portions, and delicious food and drinks. Definitely look forward to returning next time I am in the area! read more

My husband and I came to Vermont from Massachusetts for our one year wedding anniversary. The last stop we made was Killington so we decided to go yesterday to the Lookout Cafe. We were greeted, seated and Keith was our server. He was absolutely phenomenal and easily the best server we've ever had ANYWHERE. He was attentive, quick service, got us refills at the perfect time, just on the ball and kind. My husband and I came to VT during off season so there isn't a lot open, so we decided to come to the Lookout again tonight because we liked their food. You can't beat the view, that's for sure! They have outdoor seating up on the deck, as well as tables on the main level. Great view of the mountain in a very casual setting. We thought it was perfect for our first night in Killington as we wanted something low key and somewhat quick. We got a table that was set in (not right along the railing), which was nice as we weren't in the sun, but it was almost a little chilly under the powerful ceiling fan. No worries about being hot up there, even on the hottest summer day. We were a little turned off at the start because the woman at the welcome center told us they had happy hour from 3-6, 7 days a week (1/2 price wings), and gave us a pamphlet that showed the same. We arrived around 5:15, and we asked our server to confirm before ordering. After much deliberation on her part, she just wandered off and then said it ended at 5 pm. So we skipped the wings, everyone else was eating burgers and chicken sandwiches, so we went with those. We ordered the black and blue burger with bacon and onion rings, and "the Beast" chicken sandwich with fries. They were good, but not the best I ever had. Portions were small-ish - I usually can't finish a burger when I'm out, but we finished these no problem. The burger was juicy and good, I didn't taste a lot of Cajun seasoning but it was still good. I added mayo to "the beast" and it tasted exactly like a Wendy's chicken sandwich lol. I haven't had one in at least 10 years, but it all came back to me. Now I do enjoy a Wendy's chicken sandwich but for $13.95 I expected a little more from this self proclaimed "Killington legend". I don't know is so "beast" about it as it's fairly small and unimpressive, the roll is actually larger than the piece of chicken. Fries were good, there weren't too many, and we only got 6 onion rings, but paid a $2 up charge for them. Overall I found it to be very expensive. I'm not one to balk at prices at all if I feel like it's worth it, but the prices were disproportionate to the portion sizes. Citizens cider in the can was $9!! Burger with the added bacon and 6 onion rings came out to $18.50! I felt like we were paying peak season prices, but in August. $71 (pre tip) for a burger and a chicken sandwich, 2 beers/ciders each, and mediocre service seems like a bit much. I don't know if this is a tourist trap due to the view, but the woman at the welcome center had also recommended it. It's the kind of place that was fine once, but I probably wouldn't rush back. read more

5 stars all around!!! Had to come back two nights in a row because it was that good. Friday night Prime Rib special really can't be beat on how good and affordable it is. The service was spectacular with Christian as our waiter, he really took good care of us and plus he's hilarious. Felt right at home. Love the ambiance of the place too! Was doing some local gift shopping at the attached store while waiting and played a game of pool in the game room while we waited for a table to open up for our large group. Also had their chicken wings with Thai Chili sauce...which in my opinion while the meat was cooked, the skin could/should have been crispy but instead it was fatty....rubbery. Most all places will automatically offer you those little pre-moistened handiwipes since wings are a finger food.. When I asked for a couple, they had to look for them. Thankfully they found them ! It's the little things that consumers remember about a place. Brew selection is good...Full bar. Large pub. The one thing I want to point out is this was the FIRST TIME ever when I got something to go before I left, I noticed on my bill that they charge you extra for "to-go" ! I have NEVER experienced that in all the 50+yrs I have been eating out and I eat out a few times a week ! AND NO WHERE on their menu or did the staff member advise after they took my to-go order that they charge extra for to-go food. Just not good business practice.
