We were sat in the back, and the kitchen is open, but that wasn't the issue- There was a woman SCREAMING at the staff in the kitchen. I only assume she ran the kitchen- and she was NOT happy with the staff. One person even told her he wouldn't be talked to that way anymore. It was extremely tense and we were all uncomfortable. Her screaming orders and belittling staff was louder than any music or conversation. Waitresses were cringing taking orders trying to hear over her. We were there on a Saturday night at 6pm and they ran out of small pizzas and calzones as we sat down. One person got poutine that was ice cold, and the gravy was sour with no taste and cold. Chicken wings were just large breaded chicken tenders with some sauce drizzled over the top of them. Not great atmosphere with the incredible demeaning kitchen staff and food was not good. read more

We were seated without waiting, and I ordered from the extensive beer menu after a tasting. I had the rhubarb rumble (something like that) and it was great! We both ordered brick oven pizzas. Party of 8 arrived after a round of golf hungry and thirsty . The establishment was not very busy and we were told we had to wait for seating . No problem. We decided to order drinks while we waited for a table. You would think being a pub, they would be anxious to get some beer in our hands. Well, one of us stood at the bar for at least 15 minutes without any recognition from the bar staff. Not a hello , or I'll be with you in a minute . Nothing . The whole vibe was not very welcoming or remotely indicative of wanting our business. The bartender was only concerned about us sitting at the high rise tables as we waited. One staff finally acknowledged us in regard to getting a table but had to clear one first. After being in the establishment for nearly a half hour with no service from the bar and watching the staff lethargically provide what I guess you would call service , we decided to leave. They missed out on a potential $300+ bill. I suggest they revisit their food , beverage and hospitality business model. read more

The service wasn't the most attentive as there were a few times we were left waiting for a refill or the checks, regardless the staff were nice and the food was delicious. Finally a good dinner in Rutland. We have hd such horrible service lately it's been frustrating but tonight we had a great server with a positive attitude and it made it nice to dine here. It's on the expensive side for pub food, but it was good and the service was good so it made it worth it. We ordered a lot. Fried pickles were really good, my husband ordered a second order of them! Sweet potato fries are really good. Salad is great. Bacon cheeseburger was delicious. Boneless tenders were really good. Maple BBQ was really good. I would of loved some more mushrooms on my mushroom/peppers pizza though (only got 5 little pieces). All 4 of us got pizzas, they were great and 11inch was perfect size for one. A perfect addition to any Killington ski trip - Hop'n Moose is a fun lively pub/grill with good beers and stick-to-your-rubs fare. Located in the Rutland "business district" there's not a whole lot else going on in the area entertainment wise, but if you're staying/skiing nearby Killington, it pays to trek 10 minutes away from the touristy access road for a change in scenery. Order any of their pizzas and you will not be disappointed! read more

If this were just a pizza place, it's be very good for vermont. If it were just a beer place, same. Put them together, add in some live music, and this was a great place to go on a recent weekend night. It was busy with good cheer all around. I ordered a Rutland Red, a specialty of Rutland Beer works. It didn't disappoint. But we might've enjoyed our pizza more. Fresh Local pepperoni and sausage, in generous portions dotted the pizza. Although it's not my all time favorite (hard to compete with new haven apizza) it was definitely one of the better pizzas I've had in Vermont. Add a fun atmosphere and this is a great spot to eat while on vacation or a ski weekend! read more

After waiting for an hour with no luck at Taco Fresco, we decided to come here. The sign said "please wait to be seated". We waited patently by the sign, with the only sign of an employee being one waitress at the other end of the building. She glanced at us on the way from one of her tables, but was probably too busy to deal with us. After we waited for a while longer with no one acknowledging us, we left in search of service elsewhere in Rutland. Should have just stayed home. Awesome beer joint in Rutland! The staff is accommodating and efficient. The food was so good! Way better than expected. The pretzel was awesome, highly recommend! The brussel sprouts were sooooo good! So crispy. The fries were pretty good, very fluffy and large portions. The beer here is so good! The double ipas are soo much more smooth than others I've had which was a pleasant surprise. We came in with a large group and were seated immediately even though it was a busy Saturday lunch time. Also FYI the women's bathroom has a baby changing table. Highly recommend this place! read more

We were hoping to have some food for take out and it never happened. The restaurant did not answer the phone. An answering machine came on stating not to leave orders. We then attempted to install the ordering app. After installing the app, there was a notation within the app which stated we can not order with this restaurant. We hope these snags get corrected. Full bar and taps drawing out Rutland Brew Works craft beers. Beers were good, wood fired pizza was great! Plenty of seating at the bar and otherwise. Super reasonable prices on their wood fired pizzas (see my pics). Large 16 inch pizzas start at $12.95 and 11 inch personals at $7.95. Totally decent charring on my sausage personal pizza and I'd definitely order another pizza here upon my return. Dang how I wish all the craft breweries and taprooms I frequent would serve quality pizza like this! Such a downer that so many places have to bring in food trucks to accommodate the hungry customer that I am. I found the RBW beers to be quite tasty and Hop'n Moose runs a nice little flight program of 4 beers for only 6 bucks. Oh yes. My favorite beer they served (see my pic) is the Better Dayz IIPA double Eye Pee Aye ($6 for a 13 oz. serving) which weighs in at 9% ABV and is a really nice New England style hazy double IPA. Not the kind of beer you want to drink and then drive with, but yeah, when your homeskillet is at the wheel instead of you (as was the case on this day), then it's all good! Can you believe this? Most 64 oz. growler fills (byog) are only 10 bucks!! Merch prices were very reasonable (tee shirts only 12 dollars) as well and the bar has a really neat moose etching too. The loss of a star was due to the fact that literally none of their beers on either the chalkboard or the regular menu have a price and their prices vary all over the place based on the beer selected, which forces the customer to have to ask. Most pours seemed to run from five-something to seven-something, depending upon choice. Our beertender seemed to get a bit annoyed that I was asking how much each beer costs, but hey, if you don't like being asked, all you gotta do is actually post your price...makes sense, don't you think? Hint, hint. You hate being asked? Well I don't really like having to, so let's say y'all fix that. Cool, then I can give you five stars. Either way, I'd revisit this place for sure. read more

Whatever type of beer you want, they make and had on tap. Several good IPA and DIPA choices. They even had "commoner's" beers for those who like it. Great selection of pizzas and toppings. Lively crowd, difficult to get into but not impossible like some locations in town. My beer order got messed up but it wasn't the end of the world. The pizza is really good, for my money the margarita is everything that you need in a pizza. It's fresh, delicious and filling. After a long drive from DC, we stopped here for dinner. I had really high hopes for this place. After all, it's beer, burgers and Vermont. The beers were good and the only reason this gets a 3. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and my boyfriend ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Both buns were cold, not even a tinge of heat on them. The chicken was burnt to a crisp and my burger was raw in the middle. The homemade chips that came with my burger were also pretty burnt. We also tried the wings which were pretty average. Leaving Killington and wanted a burger & was heading toward Burlington and didn't want to wait at our normal apres ski spot, so based on Yelp, tried here. It was ok. Atmosphere was casual. I got the classic burger. It comes with lettuce and tomato. I asked for onion- .50 extra once the bill came, wasn't told that would happen for a few pieces of onion. Esp since I sub'd a side salad for my potato chips and it had onion! No biggie but just those little things that when you get the bill you wonder why you weren't told. I ordered the house dressing on the side (thankfully). It was described as lemon garlic- it tasted like oil with a touch of lemon. I did not use it. It was not good at all. My son had the Mac n cheese - homemade. He didn't care for it as the cheese was milder (gruyere & ?). My husband tried it and said it was pretty good. My husband had the special, which was a brisket melt. He felt it tasted more like corned beef but said it was ok. They have about 6-8 of their own brews on tap and then some other local beer. I wouldn't be looking to return here vs trying someplace new or taking the time to go to our normal spot next time. read more

I really enjoyed banter with the staff. It is a large modern beautiful pub. Clean, spacious, suitable for those expecting more than a pub, and relaxed enough everyone can enjoy a visit here. I came here on a Sunday night with an empty stomach looking for good beer and a tasty dish. Luckily, I was able to fulfill both of those desires. Their menu has a decent offering of local beers (some brewed onsite), and for $8, you could get a beer flight (four 5 oz. glasses), which we gladly ordered. One word: delicious. We ordered and devoured the Lone Trail pizza. It was a meat lover pizza's dream and was $18 for 8 slices. The environment of the restaurant is very casual and charming. Three adults and a four year old went into a bar... We were looking for a relaxed place for a quick lunch. Our server was very attentive and knew exactly how to navigate our group. We only ordered from the appetizer list and shared them. The crispy Brussels sprouts were delicious the drizzle was not too heavy and was soy sauce based. The loaded bacon nachos hit the spot, one heat intolerant adult thought there were too many fresh jalapeños. We picked them off for the four year old. Something new on the app. board were duck dumplings. The cream cheese filling over powered the duck but the four year old enjoyed them and didn't want to share. The locally brewed lager was light and crisp, I enjoyed the raspberry sour not too tart. The four year old had milk served in a heavy duty cup with bendy straw. This experience was disappointing to say the least. While the atmosphere was good and fit the brewery vibe, the food fell quite short. To begin, I ordered the Jumbo Bavarian Pretzel, Fried Pickle Chips and Poutine for the table. The wait for the food was acceptable as the restaurant was pretty busy. What was not acceptable was the quality of the food. To begin, the poutine was almost unacceptable. A sad combination of soggy fries, watery and tasteless gravy with cold cheese curds does not make for a good poutine. The pickle chips were alright, but I had better at chains like Buffalo Wild Wings. The Bavarian Pretzel was the lone bright spot in the meal. By that, it was also just acceptable. My friend got the wings, and the sauces on them were just... Don't get them. The spicy and sweet chipotle was seemingly watery maple syrup with a couple floating pepper flakes and the faintest remnant of fake smoke. The barbecue sauce was a slightly sweeter version of McDonald's sauce. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but the beer selection seemed tempting with plenty of options. We visit the Rutland area for skiing a few times a year. Hop'n Moose is a must visit for us. The atmosphere is laid back, the service is friendly and the food is great! I love the variety of pizzas they serve and the dough is delicious. The bacon cheese burger (I think it has a fancier name) is delicious and has great depth in the flavors. And of course the beer!
