My wife and I recently had dinner at the Victorian Inn in Wallingford. The food was very tasty and the service was above and beyond. Although, the next morning my wife became extremely I'll with a bout of food poisoning and vomited up the entire meal from the previous night and was sick for the entire day. I called the restaurant the next day they were open, (which was the following Tuesday) to let them know about this, out of concern for other patrons of the restaurant and also because after spending in excess of $120 for the two of us to eat there, this kind of thing should absolutely not happen. I was treated kindly on the phone by the restaurant manager but was then transferred to a person who I think was the owner or one of the owners. I was treated very rudely and in an extremely unprofessional way by this person, who treated me with mistrust from the very beginning. Implying that without her having proof, how did she know I was telling the truth. There was not an ounce of sympathy or any conciliatory response from this person....just 100% mistrust. I was never insulting to her and never raised my voice, I was just trying to state the case that something was "off" in my wife's food that night which caused her to become violently sick. The final thing this manager/owner? said to me was "have a nice life" and then hung up on me. Can you believe a restaurant proprietor would say such a thing to a customer?! This in my opinion is not the way to run a restaurant and therefore I will never return. read more

My party of 7 went to the Victorian Inn for the Thanksgiving buffet. The food was excellent with traditional dishes and a variant of sides. Dessert was superb with favorites at our table being chocolate cake, lemon cake, and pecan pie. Other dessert offerings were apple and pumpkin pie. Downsides include the table being a bit cramped which was amplified by dishes not cleared from table as necessary. Overall the entire experience was pleasing. read more

Parking on premises, there's also a nice little yard and a swing that you should check out in the grounds Full bar, they server also fairly quick. The decor here is super classic and of high taste, they even have a piano that actually works in the dining room. Friendly and warm staff, they take the time to explain the food as the menu is not very convenient as it is posted on a way and you may not seat near it. I would tell u to walk in and take a pic of the menu. SPAGHETTI CARBONARA- great pasta I am glad I ordered it, al dente, creamy and rich in flavor. asked for more cheese and was told to eat first.... kind of wish I didn't have to ask for the cheese twice. The sauce and the pasta over all was pretty amazing . I also did not get a spoon to work my fork on, it is a must with spaghetti I feel. Bread basket non salted butter I appreciate a complementary basket of bread always. Need to have more napkins available, that is for sure, we had to ask for napkins a couple of times. in my opinion this place had great decor and good food, warm staff and a lot of potential, can always be better but still as is it should be an amazing experience. read more

Standard food at gourmet prices. The only dish we had that was worth the price they charged was the Braided beef ravioli. This is one of the best restaurants in the area. I am a very picky eater and this is one of the only places where I will move out of my comfort zone.because the food is so good that I am not afraid to try something new. The husband and wife who own the place are delightful to work with. On the left side of the restaurant there is a pub that is run by the son and the food there is exceptional as well. The atmosphere is a bit more relaxed. If you are in the mood for a burger, their "Beltie" burger is the best I have ever eaten. I am lucky to live near these two wonderful establishments, but would drive hours if I had to toon order to eat at either place. read more

Enjoyed our meal tremendously. Not too much I could add to previous reviews except to tell you they were spot on. I had the escargot appetizer and the steak entree. My husband had a mixed green salad and the salmon entree. The bread to start was delicious served with an oil herb mix. The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. It was served with an herb butter, some grilled veggies and potato wedges. The salmon, also cooked perfectly, with crispy skin and a chimmicurro sauce with the same sides. This man can cook! Coffee was exceptional as well. Owners were warm and made you feel like old friends. The building is exquisite, check out every room. read more

A family of four(two sons), we went to the "inn" for a meal to celebrate my wife's birthday, but once we entered the "old" inn, I had this inkling that something was off. Switzerland plates to Japanese paintings to no menus, something just had to go wrong I told myself. Sure enough, my son ordered his favorite cessation salad-always made without anchovies(something he's deadly allergic to), but when it came out, there were anchovies sitting right on top. He, embarrassed thoroughly, made them take it back. A little time after, she found a piece of store-bought PLASTIC wedges between two pieces of "homemade" pasta. I also had bites of it-what were we to think? This restaurant deserves NO STARS, if it could be given. They claim to make the best food in the area-so what can I think but the other food in the other restaurants are worms???? DO NOT GO THERE read more

For the cost, I'm very disappointed with the brunch. There is no menu for brunch- a 21.95 per person deal. We should have asked how much it was before walking to the kitchen. You have to walk into the kitchen and meander around to find plates. If you have never been here before, it's confusing. We got our breakfast very quickly. The chef cooked it while we looked at the other foods. Brie and some fruit, a couple desserts, and mostly cold salads and olives. For 21.95, I got hot tea, 4 slices of thin potatoes, 2 pieces of bacon, and eggs Benedict with no meat. I also was able to take a small plate with a couple pieces of fruit, olives, and a slice of Brie. But hey, this (might) be all you can eat? I guess the 21.95 is worth it if you can take down some serious food. My boyfriend got water, an omelet, the same amount of potatoes with sausage, and a creme brûlée (still a bit runny). The reason for rating as high as I did was that Susan was very kind and the atmosphere was nice. For locals, we can probably say we won't visit again. We simply don't make enough to visit here- after tip, it was $60...and that's okay! read more

My wife and I have wanted to go to Sunday brunch at the Victorian Inn for some time now, and we finally went last week. It was an amazing experience! I loved that you had to go to the kitchen and place your order with the chef/owner. Also in the kitchen there a tables that have a delightful salad bar with home made dressings and delicious pickled vegetables as well as a fantastic assortment of some of the best deserts I have ever had! The flourless chocolate cake was amazing and the creme brûlée was the best!!! The ambiance was fantastic and the owners were so welcoming and friendly. They have a new pub which was not open at the time, but we are going back there this week! You can't go wrong here!!!! read more

WOW! What a great find! Went to the Victorian Inn at Wallingford and had such a great Romatic dinner with my friend! The atmosphere was warm and charming and the staff was attentive but not stuffy. Dinner was the best that I had in a very long time...wish they moved to NJ because I would be a regular to those delicious sauces that I licked the plate clean...they don't make sauces like that anymore in restaurants...Thanks Soo & Stanti for a very memorable New Years Dinner! the Victorian Inn at Wallingford is one of those special restaurants. the ones you go to for birthday's or anniversary's. it is too decadent for regular dining unless you want to start shopping for a new, much Larger wardrobe (you may not even care however as the food is so good.) chef Stanti and his wife Soo are not only Very talented but also very friendly, they make you feel at home immediately. they start you with a bread service of fresh baked sliced bread that makes you want to stuff yourself. their selection of appetizers is tantalizing (this is about when i realized that i was going to leave feeling That stuffed). and the slightly Swiss selections for dinner were so very difficult to decide on. All of them were mouth-wateringly delicious sounding (turns out they tasted that way too. - i had Tournedos of Beef that was a delight) and of course dessert was wonderful. the Inn itself it is quite eclectically decorated with each room having a theme. the service is Impeccable and the wine list extensive. dining here is worth the trip from anywhere. oh, if you live nearby, they also offer cooking classes! how cool is that? read more

Have been up this way a few times in the past 2 years and my meals at the Victorian Inn are always a highlight. I'm from San Francisco where we have, arguably, the freshest locally sourced food, the best wine and some of country's finest restaurants . The Victorian Inn is in the same league as SF's best. Mother's Day Brunch Disappointment This place came highly recommended, but all of us left very under-whelmed for the price of $30. This was not set up like your typical buffet, everything was in the kitchen. After you waited in a rather long line, you let the chef know what you wanted to order, French toast, pancake, omelet, or eggs benedict. After waiting another 5 to 10 minutes in a small space for your items to cook, you were offered bacon, sausage & potatoes. I opted for the eggs benedict, sausage & potatoes, chef gave me two small potatoes. I guess this is a great way to control the quantities. You then could make yourself around the kitchen & dish up who knows what because nothing was labeled! I must say the assortment was different from your typical cold sides. I thought they were very good, but many at our table did not try any of it because they didn't know what it was. As I was starting to eat my eggs benedict, I noticed there was no meat on it, just poached eggs with hollandaise sauce on top of two English muffins. Who makes eggs benedict like that? Thank goodness, our server was very attentive & got me some ham so I did not have to stand in the line again. Dessert table was small, but had a lovely assortment of mediocre affair, the crème Brule had a lot to be desired. Overall, it was a nice brunch, but for the same price, we will go to Greenfields for any special event brunches. read more

My wife and I have been here many times and after tasting the food and seeing the wine cellar, we knew this is where we had to get married. We had the ceremony in the wine cellar downstairs (which I think can seat up to around 40 people and can be rented for special events) and had the reception in the restaurant above. They have a banquet hall, but we preferred the feel of the restaurant portion. When we arrived everything was set up perfectly. We ended up having a 7 course tasting menu for all our guests. We loved the chocolate terrine and the garlic soup that we had here previously and also requested a venison dish. The rest of the menu was left up to Soo and Stanti. Every course seemed better than the last and at the end the guests were raving about the bacon and cabbage salad (one of three served), garlic soup, venison, strudel, and chocolate terrine. We also had an outstanding fish cake, what was probably the juiciest, most tender bratwurst I've ever eaten, and a fun lemon sorbet before the venison. Stanti picked out a wine pairing for each course, which were perfect matches for the food. A couple of the guests commented at the end of the night that they were surprised a chef of his caliber is in what seems like the middle of nowhere Vermont. I would not hesitate to recommend having any event at the Victorian Inn (in the wine cellar, the banquet hall, or the restaurant itself) or having them cater an event elsewhere. If you're just looking for a place for dinner, they're great for that as well. It's what made us want to have our wedding here in the first place. They also have a great Sunday brunch that some of our family members prefer to the dinners (they're just really into breakfast), but we prefer the dinners. This place is worth a trip if you're anywhere within a 2 hour radius. read more

What can't I say about the Victorian Inn that isn't perfectly positive? Located in small-town Wallingford, VT, you'd hardly expect to find some quality cooking and dining. Chef Stanti and his wife Soo run a fantastic restaurant with a constantly changing weekly menu. The food is influenced heavily by Stanti's Swiss background, with credit to different European cuisines along the way. Both Soo and Stanti are highly personable individuals, and truly care about each patron's overall experience with their restaurant. Went here with a party of twelve, and they accommodated us with no problem. They set us up in a private room and the wait staff was very attentive. No complaints at all. Reasonably priced. everyone enjoyed their food and the old Victorian style home ambiance was great.
