Taps just WAY over delivered in terms of my expectations. My husband and I adore the VT Farm to Table scene and I reserved a spot at Taps when I noted some decent reviews, local farm partnerships (by local I mean within town and within 15 miles) and some stand out menu options. They were voted 2019 #2 Best Restaurant in the Rutland area and I think they were robbed. My husband began the night by choosing a menu option that allows customers to buy the back of the house staff a round of cream ale which causes them to erupt in kitchenware percussion and celebratory hooting. The Potato Leek soup was velvety and delicious. They served us the best fried Brussel Sprouts that I have ever eaten. They were crispy, well seasoned and the aioli was also good but they didn't even need it. I am not much of a drinker but their specialty margarita was so well made (and strong) that had I not already gotten quite precious after the first one, I would have ordered another. My husband liked the cauliflower, squash mac and cheese special. My mushroom ravioli with capers and cream sauce were also delicious. We finished up with a house made lemon-lime cheese cake. Usually, citrus is not welcome in my dessert. I prefer chocolates, cookies and caramels in my cheesecake. I want to know that my Diabetic Ketoacidosis Emergency admission to a backwater hospital was well earned. However, it was delicious. The service was friendly and unpretentious, in my adorable, slightly drunken state I became absolutely thrilled when one of the waitresses was publicly gifted with a Plague Doctor Squishable (look them up). Service is prompt and friendly and the musical ambiance fabulous. We love the regular bluegrass pickup on Tuesdays as well as all the music week long The menu REALLY needs a refreshing. Yes, there are a few nightly specials but the regular menu has hardly changed in years. The food is good, but as regulars we are getting tired of the offerings and coming less as a result. read more

My friends and I went here for dinner while visiting Vermont and I can't even believe the food quality. The French onion dip was weird. It wasn't horrible but it also wasn't good? Two of us got burgers (medium) and they were CHARRED. The flavor tasted like they were set on fire, cooked for 5 min and then put on a bun. Two of us got chicken sandwiches and it was awful they couldn't even finish it. We also ordered coleslaw and it was literally cabbage with what tasted like canola oil on it. The only thing making this two stars was our waitress she was very nice and we were being very needy. Other than that the experience was obviously not the best. The pricing was also absurd. Basically $200 for really bad food. The other customers that were clearly regulars were staring at us the whole time which made us feel uneasy which kind of rushed us out. We had a great time at this pub. The service was great, we walked in and they could seat us right away and we got our water and drinks quickly. The ambience was welcoming and had nice energy without being too loud to have a conversation. They had a solo guitar/singer/songwriter playing from 7:00 to 9:00. The music was a mix of originals with a few cover tunes and wasn't too loud. We really enjoyed both the Crispy Brussels Sprouts and the chicken wings in Maple BBQ. We also split a Buffalo Chicken sandwich with french fries which was also good, but not as good as our appetizers. Will definitely come back if we make it back to Poultney. read more

My daughters are 4 Andy the both had the noodles and I have never seen them eat so quickly!!!! I had the Shepard's pie, talk about amazing,OMG!!! Taps Tavern is a great little bar with good food, often some live music and wonderful ambiance! The house wine is okay, wish they carried my favorite Pinot Grigio, but one can't have everything! We shared the poutin this evening, which was wonderful, lovely Garvey and melted cheese curd, I had the Mac and cheese with cracker crumbs with Salmon as a side and my date had the bbq pulled pork. Taps Tavern was one of the best places I've been in a while. I felt welcome and comfortable immediately. The bartender and my server both had a lot of good suggestions for local beers and great comments about choices from the menu. I had Kale and Sweet Potato Hash, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, and Smoked Gouda and Broccoli Soup. I also had a flight of local beers and everything was perfect. Cooked, seasoned, proportioned, and presented to perfection. If this place had a bed and breakfast attached, I'd stay for at least a week and try everything twice. I stayed a bit and the music (a guitar and mandolin duo) were top-notch. I wish I could have stayed even longer, but I really am eager to come back. If anything on the menu looks even a little bit interesting, go for it. I'm betting you will love it. read more

The food was average to good. Brussel sprouts were delicious! The nachos were very overpriced and not impressive. Very dry, not many toppings at all. I got a blackbean burger with a side salad. They messed up both. I asked for no cheese on the salad, which it came out with cheese. I asked for no bun on the burger, which they did, but they also left off mustard and pickles, so they brought those out about 10 minutes later. He burger was actually really good. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich with fries. He really liked it. The fries came out hot and crispy. I would probably give it another try. A good friend of mine and I decided to wing it and head over to Taps for National Nacho Day, because we'd heard that they make their own salsa and pickle their own jalepeńos. Not only were we 100% correct, but our lives also changed. Honestly. I've eaten a lot of nachos in my life - I like to think myself to be a connoisseur of sorts - and these were genuinely, well and truly, the best nachos I've ever had. We got them with chicken and ate them until we couldn't move. We both had to take a moment to look at one another in disbelief at least once every 5 minutes. This is not an exaggeration; it really did happen. * Also, as a side note: a small jalepeńo hit the back of my throat and, when I looked at the bartender, fresh tears in my eyes and asked if they had any milk with a strained, jalepeńo scathed voice, she got me a glass of milk without judgement.
