There was no way I wasn't going to give 5 stars to Taps Tavern. Even though one of our dishes fell below par, the overall experience was just pure joy. We had recently moved to Fair Haven and had yet to find a local restaurant worth going to without having to drive a half hour to Rutland just to eat out. I found Taps here on Yelp and their menu looked decent so we gave it a try. Upon walking in, the atmosphere was very nice. Live band playing in a restaurant was different but it was cool. For appetizers we order the Crispy Brussel Sprouts for me and my wife and just a side order of sweet potato fries for my daughter. The Brussel Sprouts were hands down the best Brussel Sprouts I've ever had. Crispy leaves with tender middles cooked with either ham or thick bacon. All that mixed with a mayo/aioli/pesto mixture of sorts. Either way, they were super delicious and will be the item that makes me want to go back again and again to Taps. One other cool thing was that it was served on a slab of slate, very interesting. The rest of their dishes were served in what looks like hand made pottery pieces so they had some weight to it. Very beautiful as well. For our main meal, my wife had the butternut squash ravioli, they were delicious. The noodle was cooked perfect, had enough chew to them. The filling was not runny and we could taste the squash perfectly. My daughter got the "I Don't Care" off the kids menu. It was a mac & cheese with a hot dog octopus. Most of times, restaurants would just do something simple for kids and call it a kids dish. Sometimes they would probably do a box mac and cheese and call it a dish. Taps actually spent their time with their kids mac & cheese. The cheese sauce was very good and had nice consistency with the noodles, which was also cooked perfectly. My daughter enjoyed that a lot, and the hot dog octopus just gave it a kid presentation. For my main course, I got the Fish Fry. It was just a simple fish & chips. It wasn't great, the fish was over battered and did not have any flavor. The french fries were very good, but of course I had forgotten we had ordered sweet potato fries as an appetizer so I wasn't in the mood to eat more fries. The cole slaw wasn't great. When it came time to leave, we took our everything but the fish & chips to go. I'm sure our waitress knew something was up and she even asked if something was wrong with it. I did not want to be rude so I just said that I was full and didn't want to bring it home as it would be too sloppy once cold. I still gave Taps a 5 star rating even with the bad fish & chips because that did not represent what this place was about to us. We will definitely come back and it's great to know that there is actually a local restaurant close to home that we enjoy time and time again. read more

We will never return to this place. Our server/bartender had absolutely no clue about how unsanitary he was while making our drinks. Scratching and picking at his face, and the back of his neck. And then squeezing a lime into our drinks. We nearly vomited. read more

Did not expect the dry rub wings to be that hot! They were tasty, but had a kick so be careful if you don't like that :) Lots of local beer to drink, but they struck out with 2 of my 3 options. The bar is obviously the most popular part of this place as there were empty tables but no empty stools. Not sure if there is another place like this around or if it was people from the college and town, but might be a bit of a swim getting through the porch to the front door. read more

Our family frequents Taps regularly because they have amazing food choices, great beer on tap and the BEST service. They really out did themselves tonight with an amazing special offered for Valentine's day! My husband and I both got different things and shared because it was just all so good. I was looking for a restaurant to enjoy while maintaining my vegan diet when I was visiting Vermont.... Taps Tavern tops charts. Not only is it my favorite restaurant I ate at this weekend (out of 5), but it is in my top 5 favorite restaurants~ ever. Rhiannon was our server. She absolutely topped charts. She was super nice and gave me the best recommendations, even though I am sure the rest of the menu, that I didn't have the luxury of enjoying, is remarkable. She happily broke our parties checks down into 9 separate tabs. Amazing. All in all, go here if you are within a 50 mile radius. And request Rhiannon!!! Also- CBD IN YOUR COCKTAILS!!! Headache who?!? Taps Tavern has great food, locally sourced as often as possible. It's reasonably priced and the service is great. There is live music several nights a week. An update from my 2015 review which was under another owner. Now it is 2023, and TAPS has been under new ownership for years, and the name is NOW Poultney Pub. Still fabulous, Still the best place around for a burger, and still fabulous specialty martinis. This kind of consistency from owner to owner is RARE in Vermont. And I believe the employees are treated really well in this establishment - they all seem so happy and helpful and enjoy serving customers. So you better leave a great tip for their great service! :) {Let's face it, a well-run business with happy employees is rare in Vermont, sadly, but maybe, just maybe, a well-run business IS WELL-RUN because of the happy employees. Great management here! } Music has become more diverse and a pleasure to go and listen to whoever shows up - they still have Bluegrass Tuesdays, but also have an open mic, and some great line-ups of local talent. Ive been coming to this restaurant for a few years now; unfortunately the menu has gone down hill in the past few months. The meals are the same but the quality is awful, the Buffalo chicken sandwhich was a go-to; but unfortunately now they no longer have chicken breast in their budget so they use chicken thighs for a sandwich... like come on. On top of the sandwich you also can't get the Mac & cheese with chicken breast because that is also piled with two soggy chicken thighs. Maybe just a personal thing but a customer who eats here multiple times a week would pay extra to have chicken breast. read more

We had a fantastic dinner here while staying on Lake St. Catherine. I had the fish tacos - which is not something I would typically think to order in a small inland town in Vermont - but the waitress vouched for them and assured me they were brought in fresh daily from the coast. They were wonderful, very fresh and delicious. My wife had Salmon which came with a chili glaze - the glaze was actually had a bit of a kick and she loved it. We went on a Monday night and it wasn't overly crowded but definitely well attended and having dined there I now know why. Great Vermont atmosphere generally as well. I've never scraped guacamole off of a chip before tonight. We ordered an $18 plate of chicken nachos and got maybe 3oz of chicken bits. Guac was really limey, and the bean mix had cinnamon in it - not a good combo. Our server was super friendly, otherwise I'd give it one star. read more

My family frequents this place and I was so excited to try it, but was disappointed by a very rude waitress at the beginning of our visit and a 45 minute wait for food. It was "wing night", as the owner made sure to remind us when we pointed this out. Taps is great. Best restaurant that happens to have a bar in the poultney area. Good seasonal food, nice presentations, friendly staff. Live music most nights. Not fancy inside but clean and well kept up. For fastest service sit at the bar. On busy nights service can be a bit slow, don't worry, the food is worth the wait. Went there to have a few beers and watch the football game Monday night. On their facebook page they advertised football and wings for Sundays games, so I figured surely they'd have the game on. However, no game. We turned on the TVs but it appear if the cable bill wasn't paid or something because we could only get 1 channel. The bartender was very nice, the beer was great and priced right. The atomsphere is perfect for a tavern. I haven't eaten there yet but my brother has a few times and said the food has been great every time. Looking forward to eating and drinking there in the future, maybe the TVs will work next time. read more

I really like Taps. In the most recent couple of times I've been there (August 2019), their tacos were great, the burgers were great. Nice selection of beers. Staff always helpful and seemingly glad to see you. Last star is held back for a salmon sandwich that was merely OK; the Cajun spice was put on too heavily and just overpowered the salmon entirely. read more
