Excellent food, great wait staff, superb beer selections & unique duel-atmosphere; perfectly cozy downstairs for fall & winter and fantastic open-air seating upstairs for spring & summer. The Double-U is a family favorite going on years now.

The location is great and such a nice/ well kept spot. Our service was great, a bit slow but nothing terrible. The food was excellent. It was a fairly expensive place for lunch, so that's a good thing to keep in mind.

The food was delicious. Visited Manchester with family and Union Underground was recommended. I had the smash burger which was delicious and well made. Parents had the fish and chips, calamari and French onion soup. The fish was crispy and well made and the chips were yummy. The calamari was cooked perfectly and the soup was almost as good as homemade . The last dish was the Chicken BLT and the garlic aoli added lots of flavor. I also loved that the had a non-alcoholic IPA on tsp- a rarity. Our server was terrific too. All in all great experience and would come back again.

Nice place to go to with a large party during the week when the weekend crowds are away. Everyone (the twelve of us) enjoyed the appetizers, meals, and beverages. I had the chicken pancetta which was pleasant. Something I typically don't order. Could have used a little more sauce though.

This is a very cool place you should be sure to check out. Walking up to it they had a brisket smoking which smelled amazing. The atmosphere is just great. The food tasted great and presentation was excellent. They create unique dishes so try something you normally eat.

Union Underground is actually underground. But they also have amazing outdoor seating. This is an underground restaurant and bar that just happens to be kid friendly. I only say that because I saw it for myself! In other words, their staff were so friendly I almost thought I wasn't going to make it out of there. They were noticeably friendly and informative. I received a lecture about appetizers and I loved it! To start off I had Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and Maple Thai Chili Chicken Wings. The wings were cooked perfectly and the the touch of Maple in the Thai Chili wings were like no other. As for the Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, even I was surprised how good they were. Crispy outer layer that held together really well and as long as I'm able to identify the ingredients within the filling, it's all good with me. For my main course I had the Smokehouse Burger. Cooked exactly how I like it, well seasoned and topped with crispy onions. Their Smokehouse sauce had the prefect amount of sweetness with a nice smokey aroma to it, complementing the burger in the most perfect way possible. What was there not to like? Not sure because my bun was toasted and buttered. They're making it hard for me to find discrepancies. Their underground dining area complete with a bar plenty of TVs, interesting/clean decor and the option of cozy group booth seating. Upstairs you can enjoy their beautiful outdoor seating which also had a really nice gazebo to sit within. So much good to say about this place. It was also nice to see so many people enjoying the underground dining area despite the beautiful weather outside. I will definitely be back next time I come up here.

We were staying at the Barnstead Inn which is very close to The Union. We opted for ordering online and take-out. My s/o ordered the Skillet Mac and while he found it delicious it was very salty. Maybe from the bacon. He also tried the Fried Chicken Sandwich and said it was good too. I ordered a Vegan Burger with BBQ sauce. They don't have the option of a vegan cheese just a FYI. I would love to eat inside once Covid dies down. Atmosphere seemed awesome.

COVID dining - Got take out and ordered through their website. They didn't seem to have received the order until we arrived at our pick up time - Once we did pick up our order, they didn't give us any cutlery/napkins (this was specified when we ordered online) - Duck wontons weren't my cup of tea - Buffalo mac + cheese weren't great either - Korean stirfry was good though, plenty of different ingredients - The portions are big which is good - The place looks pretty well decorated though. Must be a great place to visit pre-pandemic times

Nice hidden place. Food is good. Service is nice. The bread pudding is awesome. Overall worth waiting for the food as it gets busy.

Highly highly reccomend The Union Underground!! I had not had that good of a meal in quite a while. I was very impressed with my dish, which was the Vegan Burger. Any time I am in the area, I am sure to stop here. The servers are all so friendly which makes all the difference. Additionally, the restaurant is literally underground, below another restaurant! Very unique ambiance and very enjoyable.

I know there's a new chef, and unfortunately the difference was noticeable. My favorite salmon dish came out undercooked and mushy, so I couldn't eat it. My friend's medium-rare steak was overcooked. I also ordered a glass of wine that was forgotten. After reminding our server, she told me they were out of it, so I ordered something else, but it didn't arrive until I was almost done eating. We were also surprised that the bread, which used to be complimentary, is now an extra charge. I'm hoping this was just an off night, but after this experience I can't recommend the restaurant the way I used to. It's disappointing to see a place I always looked forward to and confidently recommended fall so far below the standard it once had.

It was all edible, but there were problems with every single thing we ordered. We started with the marinated mushroom & sausage flatbread: one of the better items and fairly tasty with a tomato sauce base, could have used a tart element like a balsamic drizzle to wake it up a bit. My husband got the Korean bbq burger, which at $27 was honestly a bit insane and doubly so when it wasn't good. There's not a single thing that was wrong, the whole conception is an epic fail. A beef burger should not have an intense taste of soy. Sorry, harsh but true. The exorbitant price is insult to injury. The ham and cheese croquettes should never have been offered with the cinnamon sugar dusting. Another bizarre pairing that makes no sense in your mouth and adds nothing. The dijonnaise was good if a bit mild... amp up the savory flavor and put more ham in the mix with a touch more salt please. Finally, the Public Salad was a good base but needs a bit of a vinegar component to make it sing. I'd recommend red wine vinegar, just a small splash in the dressing. Overall enjoyed it and the chicken was adequately moist. Thank you for having us.

First and foremost, the menu of 20+ items online was not what we received when we came through the door. It was instead replaced with a much smaller (and more expensive) menu with only 5 entree choices. Seemed like a real bait and switch. Worse even than that, the dining room was extremely hot temperature wise, I'd guess north of 80 degrees easily. The restaurant is supposed to be air conditioned so we mentioned it to the server and asked if the air could be turned on. Her response was to say that she "agrees its very hot but the owner didn't think it was hot enough for the AC to be turned on" and if we thought it was bad in the dining room we should check out the kitchen, where she claimed it was 110 degrees. Ridiculous. We finished our drinks and left. None of us were comfortable and it didn't feel worth it to pay 30 dollars for a rib-eye while we were literally dripping sweat. We spoke with some other patrons on the way out, they mentioned their rooms were equally hot. When they called down to ask about AC, the hotel staff brought up a fan to push the 90 degree air around their room. I would avoid this place at all costs, at least in the summer months.

This restaurant has a lot of things going for it which appeal to me. They do need to clean up their web information, and with that, the associated Yelp information. Both list the weeknight opening time as 5pm, and yet in different spots, they list a weekday happy hour starting at 4pm. Other snippets of conversation I overheard imply they have to make a few other menu updates. But as per my review, that didn't adversely affect my opinion of the place at all. We did, in fact, show up during the "happy hour period prior to 5pm," and we sat at the bar for drinks, for happy hour foods, and for our dinners. The happy hour menu is vague for cocktails... "well crafted cocktails" will be discounted, but you really have to ask which ones get the discount or not. We were content to order some of their regularly crafted cocktails. We were inundated with menus as well, one of which we got by mentioning it was our first visit there. That had two of immediate interest, the lobster and scallop crusted salmon, and the quail. I had never had quail, so of course I had to try it, and it was delicious (as was the salmon, which I also got to sample). I can't comment on table service, since we sat at the bar for the entire evening, but that was quite enjoyable... friendly service, made to feel welcome immediately, great conversation among staff and patrons. I look forward to exploring more of their offerings on future visits.

I walked the half block from my hotel room and saw the lighted sign on the building drawing be to City Beer Hall. The bar is old school wood, long tables, and people generally having a good time. I was alone so chose the bar for sitting because that is more convenient for me and the wait staff. The beer menu was long with a few regionals new to me. Too many sours though for my taste, but those are popular now. I am not going to talk about the beers available because those will surely change by the time you read this. I ordered a beer and checked out the food menu. There were some good looking items on the menu, I really wanted a good pizza after my earlier airport pizza debacle, but a whole pizza was too much for one guy. I discussed the food choices with my friendly bartender and settled on the chicken nuggets and a side of fries. The nuggets are hard breaded from thighs and pretty good. The fries were crispy, well seasoned, and overly abundant. Overall the meal was great! It was Thursday night and they had a trivia-like game that was related to Family Feud so I played that. Might have stayed a little later than I should have but the beer was good. I was looking at the beer refrigerator and saw Fiddlehead IPA and asked my bartender about it. He was not really keen on it but that is the best beer they had there, but that is one really good beer. Later I notice that was the beer they were giving you if you ordered the $8 beer and a shot, which is an excellent value! There was some kind of drama this night. There was a lady who first tried to order Jager Bombs for her table and the bartender told her sorry we don't do those so she ordered Tito's shots instead. Well this ended about how you would expect with her losing a credit card and blaming everyone in sight for her problems. The large room that houses the bar and long communal tables with high ceilings and large windows is like a Biergarten that is works great for happy hours and evening hangouts. Pizza wise, I was pleased with their Hot Honey Pizza that balances sweet, savory, and spicy flavors between its delicious crust, pepperoni, creamy ricotta, tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, and a lovely drizzle of hot honey. I enjoyed the pizza with a Ommegang Blueberry Falls that was a "Blueberry Kolsch" whose crisp and slightly sweet flavors balanced well against the spicy and savory I was noshing. The only downside was I found the service behind the bar to be a bit slow and distracting from conversations with other customers. I felt I was forgotten until I finally flagged for the check. But overall, the City Beer Hall was a solid experience highlighted by their hot honey pizza.

Ive had much better food from diners and other places that don't cost nearly as much. Their prices position themselves as upscale but it is far from it. Short order cooks could do better. Chicken Marsala was two small nuggets of chicken over a large amount of pasta. My aunt said it tasted like they poured the Marsala over it instead of cooking with it. I got the pumpkin and apple risotto. This was one huge bowl of Risotto. Like getting a bowl of porridge. It was supposed to have diced pumpkin, Carmelized apples, spinach, julienne vegetables and pecans (I think). None of that was present. I was told it was blended in.... Really? It was like having a big bowl of risotto for your dinner and did not at all resemble what was described on the menu. I sent it back and got a side salad with ranch dressing. How could you ruin that? Well it was heavily salted, that's how. My husband got the Turkey and that too tasted overly salty . Don't mind spending money on great food but this was atrocious. Only one person liked their dish which was the crab cake. Can't even fathom how they stay in business.

But it was also dead quiet at 4pm on a Saturday, which was ok by me. I had a tuna dish for dinner (see photos) that was pretty tasty. I asked the bartender for a food recommendation and that's what he suggested. He was right. It was good and I'm glad I got something tasty and healthy. Would for sure go back.

Beautiful architecture, dating back hundreds of years. We were impressed by the People's Pub. Pool and darts on the second floor, and bar and dining area on the first. We spent a good amount of time admiring the wood work around the bar and restaurant, as well as the tin ceilings. We ordered more food that we probably should have, but it all sounded so good, that with the winter menu coming to a close, we knew we would likely not have a chance to order it again. We chose to sit at the bar, and enjoyed a whiskey and pisco sours, made with actual eggs. The open kitchen is a nice touch, and it was nice to see the well staffed restaurant handle the Friday night dinner crowd. Portions for most dishes were a generous size, and we enjoyed the variety of choices. We can't wait to come back to try the spring menu, or to come on one of the special nights, such as the live Irish music.
