Having visited Silver Fork in Manchester on a number of occasions over the years, I finally realized I've never written a review. Well, now is the time. We re-visited the restaurant recently for our 40th wedding anniversary, and I think it's only fitting to offer a view on what is best described as a bastion of excellence and gracious dining in Manchester village, Vermont. Situated in a refurbished former library building, the Silver Fork's setting, decor, and dining experience is indeed textbook flawless. Inside the upscale eatery evokes mid-century Moderne, a setting for the once popular Madmen TV period drama series; tony, chic, but hardly ostentatious and overbearing. On the contrary the high ceilings, lighting and space combine to offer that frozen glimpse of earlier elegance but alongside very contemporary culinary offerings. Table spacing accentuates a good use of space. We started with a "Rubies are Forever" Pomegranate cocktail with Pomegranate boba. The menu is large but not overbearing; a good mix of meats, legumes and fish. Equally the starters are enticing. French Onion soup is amazing but on this occasion we both chose the Duck egg roll with a special peanut sauce. Simply extraordinary and with generous duck portions. For an entree, my wife chose Mahi Mahi Fish, beautifully prepared over plantain. Despite being tempted by a brisket with horseradish sauce, the evening special, I chose the Ratatouille. Why? Prepared properly, this is often hard to find. The Chef's presentation of the southern French staple, was beautifully interpreted, accompanied with some goat cheese. We accompanied our meal with a glasses of red wine. For desert we shared the incomparable Caribbean Bread Pudding which is always a hit here. Allow to me to say our server Lynn showed a genuine experience both in the menu and wine list along with a pleasant disposition. We equally had the opportunity to chat with Melody the co-owner who, along with her husband Chef Mark, described their culinary Odyssey before coming to Vermont years ago to establish Silver Fork. I had been visiting Manchester Vermont on March 24, 2026. I was extremely fortunate to have made a reservation for dinner at the Silver Fork. First I must comment on the beautiful job that the owners had performed in transforming this Library into to a paradise for eating. Tables are spaced far enough apart that you feel that you are having a private dining experience. The art work is beautiful and arranged tastefully. The wait staff are courteous and respectful. You can tell that this is an upscale restaurant as soon as as you are seated. The food is the best I have ever had. I have dined in many Michelin starred restaurants but the food at The Silver Fork is beyond reproach. I must say that the cocktails are on the same level as the food served. Silver Fork has an amazing atmosphere as usual! We've been coming here since 2021 after reading recent reviews I was little nervous, but for no reason. Yes it is an upscale place you do want to look nice coming here. Melinda was super polite and friendly with us and put us center stage. Food and drinks were delicious as always. They have a rare selection of wines and beers cocktails have a hint of fancy modern hint. We had 5 appetizers and a beef cheeks special. When I get to a new location I like to ask locals where they would go for the best dinner in town. Yesterday we were told to go to the Silver Fork and we booked a reservation. The meal started with an onion soup for my wife with three different cheeses and fried onion stings on top. Now this comes with a warning that it's going to take up to 20 minutes to make but it was time well spent. This we felt was the best onion soup we have ever had. There was plenty of onions but the combination of baked cheese and onion rings made it unbelievable. I had a mushroom soup and a fluffy baked pastry on top. While the soup came out extremely hot pushing the pastry into the soup cooled it down enough to eat. This was also another memorable start to our evening. We then both decided on the lobster risotto with sauced prosciutto and asparagus. This was a healthy portion of lobster swimming in a creamy sauce with the prosciutto. The prosciutto had been fried crispy like bacon and it was a very nice contrast to the smooth lobster and risotto. This was just another step on the journey to a wonderful meal. The cherry on top was the dessert special of a cored apple filled with raisins and sugar, baked within a pastry. This came out with apple baked to a medium softness but the great pastry covering it. Along with this came cinnamon ice cream that was made onsite. This dessert also came with a 20+ minute bake but letting the waiter know we wanted it while eating our entree, it came out soon after we were done with our meal. This restaraunt is a wonderful ambiance with plenty of room between tables. The staff was on top of their game in all areas of menu knowledge, suggestions to eat and delivery of the meal. Special restaurant tucked in a quiet office building block. Parking is on the side or back and is free. Seating options are plentiful: bar, indoor, outdoor. I always choose the large round bar. Most of the time it's never 100% full and I've found a spot. Make reservations for dining if you prefer. Olivia, the sommelier, is delightful! The wine and cocktail menus are thoughtful. Classic martinis, amaro varieties, world wines. On the food front, I usually find one or two things they'll veganize. Salads and apps are easiest for plant based diners, but they will accommodate dietary restrictions. The vibe is upscale and classy. The views overlook the creek. Decor is traditional. read more

The Silver Fork is housed in a renovated library that I frequented as a kid, and I'm pleased to say they've done a fantastic job of turning it into a lovely restaurant. The service is exceptional - friendly and attentive without overdoing things - and the food is absolutely first-rate; it's not a massive menu but offers a good selection of food that refkects the care the kitchen takes with their work. I had the escargot en croute starter, and both the puff pastry and the snails were cooked to perfection. I had the crab cake for my main, and it was exceptional - real crab, not mostly bread crumbs with a little crab mixed in - and again, cooked to perfection. Cocktails are amazing as well. The pros: The new location is stunning, especially the bar area. Many of the dishes were delicious. The cons: The menu is all over the place. They present this concept as the result of the chef's quirky idiosyncratic interests/background, but it's not a cohesive story. The biggest offense was that our meal took nearly three hours. There were long stretches in between courses that were unreasonable. The co-owner came to our table toward the end of the meal and was gossiping about her staff to us, it was awkward. I'm not sure whether I'd recommend this place. It's beautiful, so maybe a drink and appetizer at the bar if you have time to kill. read more

The food here is fine or good. The prices are moderately high and it's very hard to get reservations. The owner turns down a lot of people and runs it like an exclusive nightclub as far as being allowed entry. So I took my cousin here and we booked the reservations under her name and had to make reservations to sit at the bar because the owners are so picky about who is allowed in and where they can seat. We had an average to above average meal. I left a ten dollar tip. It was 2-3 dollars shy of 20 percent. If you take away the taxes it was maybe 2 dollars short and should have been a 12 dollar tip. Let's just say I tipped 10 dollars instead of 15 for simplicity. Melody- the chef's wife, called my cousin relentlessly the next day, but we were skiing and could not answer the phone, we but just saw the calls coming in every hour. There were maybe 6 attempts made to contact her. My cousins phone number was used to book the reservations so that's why they called the next day and had a number to use. Finally on the 2nd day after the dinner the owner melody got my cousin on the phone. Melody was calling because I ONLY tipped ten dollars. Melody then described how they were a humble family owned restaurant. They in fact own half of the town that the restaurant is in and they are multi- Millionaires. I could not believe my ears when I heard Melody speaking to my cousin and then me acting coy and asking if something was wrong with the service because I ONLY left 10 dollars. I believe Melody thought my cousin was my wife or girlfriend and was trying to embarrass me with the call about tipping ten dollars only. The owners are absolutely deranged! This has never happened to me in my life. If you think I am a liar look at the Cheque when you eat here. Look at the suggested tip they calculated for you. NOTICE THAT TAXES ARE NOT TAKEN FROM THE SUM USED TO CALCULATE WHAT YOU SHOULD TIP. TAXES ARE SUPPOSED TO NOT BE INCLUDED WHEN CALCULATING WHAT THE TIP PERCENTAGE IS. If you do not tip appropriately to the melody woman's liking just be prepared for her to try to humiliate you and get revenge. This is just one of the features you get from eating at a "family owned" restaurant. Anyone that has had a bad experience with melody should share if they had a similar experience to me. read more

We came in on a Friday night without a reservation and were delighted when the owner, Melody, was able to seat us. The building previously housed a library and retained touches of its former life. The decor was beautifully and thoughtfully done. The bar manager and our server, Camille, was fantastic. She had a deep understanding of the menu items and made excellent recommendations. We had the Cabot cheese balls, Wiener schnitzel, lobster risotto, and bread pudding. Each plate was stunning, only matched by the excellent quality and flavors. This place alone is a reason to visit Manchester! I love that they beautifully repurposed Manchester's Skinner library into a fabulous restaurant. From the start, every staff member we encountered was helpful and friendly. Harrison, our waiter, was full of information about the wonderful history of the space and the owners and was very attentive. One of the owners stopped by our table and visited. My wife is in an electric wheelchair and we found it easy to navigate the entrance and restaurant, wonderful inventive cocktails. I tried one called "it's worth it" that actually came disassembled with a scoop of ice cream. Never have I ever, delicious, I had to have a second. We had the poached pear, delicious greens, duck egg roll and a very authentic wienerschnitzel. All were amazing. Finished with a bread pudding soufflé that had a 30 minute prep window with a coconut creme anglaise that was a show stopper and great finish. The Silver Fork is genuinely one of my top 10 favorite restaurants of all time and is a place I look forward to visiting any time I've come to Manchester. The overall vibe of the Silver Fork, which is located in a former library, is a Mid-Century modern DREAM. The way they utilize the space and make it so cozy but chic is really incredible and you can tell that they've put in a ton of attention to detail in how they've curated the space. In addition to the huge dining area, there's also a stunning upstairs bar and spaces to sit by a fireplace - it's unreal. The service has always been wonderful, starting when you walk through the door and are greeted by Melody, one of the owners of The Silver Fork. It's such a nice touch that just makes you feel special as you're led to your table. Each server brings their own personality to their service, but it's always been friendly and professional, making you just feel comfortable and a valued guest. The FOOD. This is the kind of place where you cannot go wrong with anything you order - but as a creature of habit, I always crave certain menu items and don't want to mess with perfection so consistently order the same entree. For the latest visit, we ordered the focaccia with the olive tapenade, a goat cheese souffle, and then a special of mushroom soup. The mushroom soup had mushrooms that came from a local couple Chef Mark, the chef/owner, knew with a homemade puff pastry on top - the soup was dairy free, but was SO deliciously creamy with an incredible texture that tasted so fresh. I'm going to be spoiled for the rest of my life because I don't think I'll ever have a better mushroom soup! I also ordered the crab cake ($42), which comes with homemade matchstick fries (they are unreal) and an incredible homemade tartar sauce. It's one of those "I dream of this meal," kind of entrees that I think I'll always order as long as it's on the menu - it's perfection. We also ordered the Wienerschnitzel, which could probably feed at least 3 people. That comes with a warm potato salad that's the perfect sweet and tangy balance. The drinks are also AMAZING - really unique cocktails that change seasonally, a great wine list, and really pretty glassware (I'm a sucker for the details!). Can't recommend The Silver Fork more highly - it truly is one of my favorite spots and one that I'll always look forward to visiting to see the seasonal options and have a guaranteed amazing time. read more

We had a short visit to Manchester and happened across this restaurant. What a great find. From the minute we walked into the amazing space we had a great evening. We had the Chicharrone Di Pollo, Ratatouille and Onion Soup. The food was fabulous. The staff was very attentive. We met the owner and she was very nice. I believe she said her husband is the chef. This restaurant opened in an old library and it is absolutely beautiful. Our server was very friendly and you could tell how much she loved this place. We ordered the roasted pear/goat cheese and the steak tartar for appetizers. I am not typically a warm fruit person but this was to die for. The pear and the goat cheese were a perfect combo. The steak tartar was fresh and served with homemade toast. I ordered the veal bolognese and my boyfriend had the lobster risotto. Both were packed with flavor and had a generous portion of meat in them. We got the swan ice cream over chocolate ganache for dessert and not only was it a beautiful presentation, but tasty as well. Wow, just wow! I've been dying to visit The Silver Fork for years, and New Year's Eve was finally the day. When we pulled up, it was nighttime, and the large windows in the main dining room took my breath away. We arrived 45 minutes early for our reservation to get drinks at the bar, but luckily, they were able to seat us early, which was great. There was also a Yelp plaque on display at the hostess stand to let everyone know they were named Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat for the 10th year in a row. How amazing is that?! We were seated at the bar, which is set above the main dining room. One of the bartenders greeted us immediately and gave us drink menus. My boyfriend ordered a Vermont Pilsner, and after I only opted for water, the bartender showed me the expansive mocktail list they had. I decided to go with the Pomegranate Boba, which was delicious. For our appetizer, we chose the goat cheese soufflé, which arrived piping hot and accompanied by the coolest looking crostini I've ever seen as well as Melba sauce. It not only smelled delicious but tasted heavenly. I'm a huge jam and cheese person, so they knocked it out of the park. For our entrees, we ordered the Veal Lasagna with Béchamel sauce and the Shrimp Mofongo. I've never had lasagna with Béchamel sauce, but now I can't imagine not having it. The sauce was incredibly creamy, and the fresh Basil leaves were a great touch. Now for the Mofongo - I hope you're able to see the pictures I posted. It was presented in a wooden mortar and pestle, which was such an incredible touch. It was loaded with juicy shrimp in the most perfect sauce. Now I've had Mofongo in Puerto Rico, and this tasted just like it. The owners lived in Puerto Rico for 20 years, so they certainly know what they're doing! Now, onto dessert. We opted for the Caribbean Bread Pudding, which we ordered at the beginning because it takes 30 minutes to prepare. It arrived piping hot, complete with coconut cream anglaise sauce served in an actual coconut. It tasted similar to a cinnamon roll - it was divine! Plus, the sauce wasn't too sweet. Great dinner spot to stop at when visiting Vermont! My recent visit to Silver Fork was a delightful culinary experience with a few minor notes. Service was delightful, staff were sweet enough to seat us 30 minutes before closing. The restaurant is built inside an old library so it has a nice chill ambiance. What we had: Steak Tartare This dish was an excellent start to the meal. The tartare itself was flavorful and paired beautifully with the crispy melba toast and the richness of the egg yolk on top. A solid choice if you enjoy classic steak tartare with a slight creative twist. Maryland Crab Cake The crab cake was fantastic in terms of flavor--packed with crab rather than filler. However, the portion size was quite small, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're really hungry. The shoe-string fries were a nice touch, but they took up too much of the dish and overshadowed the crab cake itself. Three Cheese Onion Mushroom Soup This soup had a gorgeous presentation and a rich aroma. Unfortunately, the taste didn't live up to its appearance--it reminded me of a standard French onion soup. Good, but not particularly memorable. Lobster Risotto Despite not being a big fan of risotto, I enjoyed this dish. The lobster was cooked perfectly, and the addition of a bacon-like prosciutto elevated the flavors. If you enjoy risotto, this is a safe and satisfying option. Caribbean Bread Pudding Soufflé This was hands-down my favorite dish of the night and worth every bite! The bread pudding was the perfect blend of traditional bread pudding and banana pudding, with the addition of raisins and sliced almonds for texture. The star of the dish was the coconut cream anglaise, served in a real coconut, adding a fun and indulgent touch. Ruby Sparkle with Blueberry Boba This was a very fun drink, and a great proseco with a bursting fruity flavor. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Overall Thoughts Silver Fork delivers on presentation and flavor, with some dishes standing out more than others. If I were to return, the Steak Tartare and Caribbean Bread Pudding Soufflé would be must-orders. Twice a year, spring and fall, my husband and I visit our mother-in-law in Peru Vermont. And twice a year, as a delicious treat, we go to "The Silver Fork". The space is stunning! A beautiful old library with giant windows looking up at the mountains. The service is kind and patient. Cocktails are generous. Food is delicious. The Spanish potatoes. The crab cakes. We started with the Focaccia with green olive tapenade and Goat cheese soufflé with Melba toast. My wife the Lobster Risotto with sautéed prosciutto and asparagus. When it comes to venue and decor, silver fork is up there! Beautiful old library with cozy and home-y decor. Loved the host, chef and the team that took care of us. For app, we ordered the goat cheese soufflé, loved this technique of doing a soufflé out of cheese, made the texture very smooth and wiped. Was served with fig jam and toast. For entrees, we ordered the Creole shrimp Mofongo. The presentation was certainly unique for this dish. Came with peppers, onions and olives with a layer of mashed yuca. The sauce was not terribly unique and just tomato puree. I did not taste of any extraordinary flavor or any special kind of tomatoes (perhaps since tomatoes are not in season yet). The swordfish was served with a huge bed of lentils and avocados, tomatoes and onions. Again the sauce was not anything out of the extraordinary. Silver Fork gets an A+ for the team, plate arrangement, venue and decor. I am sadly not overly impressed with the flavors and dishes. read more

We tried the Silver Fork in its new location. Starting with a very authentic Crab Cake which was accompanied by these addictive potato sticks. Our mains; Pulled Brisket with a very tasty whipped horseradish sauce. The Side of homemade spatzle was a very nice addition. The Homemade Brownie with ice cream was a nice ending. My husband I have traveled for many decades and have found in the last few years huge disappointments are more the norm than the exception. We did not have much expectation when we booked our reservation at the Silver Fork. From the moment we entered the Restarant we were stunned at the fabulous decor and ambiance. It was clear the owners knew what they were doing to create such an atmosphere of privacy among diners as well as an unforgettable experience. Instead of maximizing the seating capacity, thoughtful space was created to give diners their own space. The calming lighting does just that which also compliments the enormous windows. Probably one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been in. But I haven't reached the best part yet.... We were greeted by the owner who could not have been more delightful. Melanie made us feel so welcomed. Our server was also terrific- knowing the perfect time when to check in. If all of this is impressive , the food was one of the best culinary experiences ever. Truly. The duck spring rolls were one of the best things I've ever had, absolutely delish. I also had the lamb meatballs that were wonderful and the presentation of everything was so artful. The wine list was a great balance of good wines and not crazy prices, and the entire collection paired well with the menu. I will go to Manchester VT just to dine at the Silver Fork. It may seem like a common theme, but it is because it is true. The Silver Fork is one of our favorites. It competes with those we have eaten at in the U.S. as well as abroad. From the decor to the overall setting or the hosts to of course the food - all is exceptional. We have been making the trip to Manchester once or twice a year and each time we book our reservation in advance. The service is attentive and it is not rushed. It is a dining experience vs simply eating out. You have time to enjoy your company, your food and the setting. To end I never go wrong with the bread pudding with coconut. It always is one of the reasons we head back to VT. read more

Favorite restaurant in Manchester. The space, service, and food - all excellent. The Silver Fork is in the former library and is such a beautiful setting. Very spacious between tables, creating a quiet atmosphere with some light music playing in the background. The service is amazing. Staff is attentive and super knowledgeable about the menu. So friendly and kind. And the food is excellent. If I had to recommend just one menu item it would be the bread pudding. Just get it. It may be the best dessert I've ever had. Reservations are not taken online so call to reserve your table. And call well over a week in advance. They are always fully booked. You can be put on a waitlist, which I have done and was called with an opening a few hours before my requested time. read more

The restaurant itself is gorgeous. In an old library, the owners did a wonderful job with the mid-century modern esthetic. The soft background music added to the atmosphere. The service was friendly and on point. The food and presentation were great. The prices were a bit high, but seemed about the norm for a good restaurant in Manchester. I have not done a review in over 6 years, but I am still thinking about how horrendous this dinner was 24 hours later so wanted to warn fellow patrons. This was a tragic, awful dinner with perhaps the most rude owner and bartender I have ever met. We were looking forward to eating here after hearing it was the best place in Manchester. Instead, we received mediocre food that seems to have been created by someone who thinks they understand fine dining. The food was bland, overpriced and lacked any originality. The owner held us in contempt when we asked where our main courses were after waiting almost 2 hours. We will not be returning and it seems no one is a return customer to the mediocre, overpriced food of the Silver Fork. They need an overhaul and to treat their customers with a modicum of respect. read more

I came to Silver Fork as a solo date night while in the area on vacation. At once I was seated and watched a man behind the bar shake up drinks with vigor and grace, as I nestled into my chair and made friends with the menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse selections on the menu from appetizers, cocktails, entrees, and desserts. After some long consideration and chats with the bartender I placed my order for the evening and nestled into my chair. The bartender suggested the Siren Song cocktail (which I happened to be eyeing), one of Silver Fork's signature drinks. Crafted with tequila, creme de violette, lemon, egg whites, Wolfpeach, and magical mermaid dust (dried rose petals and sea salt). I watched as the bartender poured the purple liquor, layered the egg whites, and shook the mermaid dust onto the center of my violet drink. On the first sip I was taken aback with many thoughts: "It is herbal yet salty yet floral yet sweet," I kept sipping and discovering new tastes. That the foamy top (egg whites) were perfectly smooth with microbubbles and evoked a sense of the sea. The addition of creme de violette not only added the floral notes but a delightful lavender hue that was impossible to not keep staring at. Salty notes of the mermaid dust tickled my nose, adding an unexpected variation to the experience of the Siren Song. Not soon after sipping on my amethyst colored beverage, out came a dazzling food runner with an equally dazzling dish. Crusty bread reaching the sky, puffed souffle, and an itty-bitty dish with a mauve jam. This was the all-popular Goat Cheese Souffle With Chutney & Homemade Melba Toast. I broke the thin shell top of the souffle to reveal a whipped goat cheese center steaming up with scents of tartness from the goat milk and cheesiness. I spread the souffle onto the Melba toast alongside the fig chutney. Sweet, tart, fruity, and savory flavors danced over my taste buds as a jazzy tone floated through the air. Before long it was gone and I sipped on my cocktail while people watching, as couples cheered and families shared meals. The food runner appeared in a blink of the eye with my entree: a savory Mushroom Strudel. When ordering I wasn't too sure what a strudel actually was but the bartender explained it was a puff pastry with a filling inside, and this time around it happened to be a mushroom filling with lion's mane, shiitake, and other locally grown mushrooms from Vermont. It was the special of the evening so I had to order it and once I took my first bite I was glad I did. The strudel was flakey and deliciously buttery, while the mushrooms added a mouthwatering umami flavor that was just as (if not more) savory as meat. Alongside the strudel was a bed of mash potatoes and green beans for a nice balance to the starch forward dish along with a full bodied sauce to tie all the elements together. As a massive fan of mushrooms this dish is something that could easily make me a vegetarian if I could eat this all the time! Onto the sweet finale: Caribbean Bread Pudding Souffle, that I had to order thirty minutes in advance so the kitchen would have time to prepare it! When it was brought to me I audibly gasped which the food runner replied with: "That's a fantastic reaction!" I simply was in awe of the presentation: the aroma of spicy cinnamon floating into my nose, caramelized bananas and a sprinkle of sliced almonds that looked like stars. Accompanying the dessert was a Coconut Creme Anglaise in a real coconut! I scooped some of the souffle onto a dish since a puff of steam escaped the souffle when I started digging in. I drizzled the coconut creme and took my first bite. A heavenly experience that was gooey and sticky thanks to the bananas, raisins to add that classic sweetness and the toasted sliced almonds for phenomenal texture. A slice of pure indulgence and I could not finish it all. Silver Fork is made for those wanting to dip their toes (or shall I say bread) into gastronomy and fine dining while still feeling approachable. You'll be ready to make your next RSVP by the time you leave the restaurant! read more
