Grilled pork chop with Brussel sprouts
    Donna M.

While staying at the Taconic, we enjoyed breakfast 2 mornings and had one dinner at the Copper Grouse. So this review will cover all! If the weather permits, sit on their beautiful front porch with views of the Green Mountains. All of our servers were exceptional. Extremely polite and friendly. Regarding the breakfasts-the cucumber gazpacho was one of the most refreshing, delightful soups I have ever had! It's such a great blend with the sweetness of the apples combined with the saltiness of the celery and the refreshing taste of cucumbers. Absolutely loved this. We were bummed to hear it was not available the next day but we got to try the tomatoe gazpacho instead, which was almost as perfect as the cucumber. I loved that it didn't have an acidic taste that many gazpachos can take on. It was smooth and creamy. I had the duck confit hash which was phenomenal. My husband had the Croque Madam which was a huge portion. He wound up bringing half to our room to be eaten later. We also tried a side of their chicken and cheese. The next day, knowing how large the portions were, we went with eggs over spinach with a Bernaise sauce on top. Only to find out it also came with English muffins so we were pleasantly full again. For dinner my husband tried the salt & vinegar martini. He liked it but only enough for one drink and then switched over to a traditional martini. Kind of like eating salt and vinegar chips-you can't have too many. For dinner we started with the Vermont cheese board which I was surprised did not have more selections of cheeses. It seemed very basic in this charcuterie era that we are in right now. The only accompaniment was whole grain mustard. There was no 'wow' to the board. For entrees, my husband had an amazing pork chop with Brussel sprouts It was sooo good and so Vermont! I had the blackened sea bass with tomato and fennel broth. However, they brought me out the cod in the coconut broth by mistake. They told me I could enjoy the cod until they brought out my correct dish, which of course, i did! It was delicious and I was almost sad to see it go when my sea bass came out. But the sea bass was equally good although $10 more in price. For dessert we had a blueberry cobbler that was just ok-kind of dry. Overall we had a great experience at the Copper Grouse and will return if back in Manchester!

Seriously nice place with great service and great food. I was slightly tempted to go four stars just because the place is really quite highly priced for Vermont, but the Manchester area is all basically like that and at least the food is worth it in the end. The risotto was so much more filling than I expected and the chicken wings with the Grouse dry rub was an unexpected hit with the table. Worth it.

Oh. My. God. Our server was the nicest server ever and everything came out hot and fresh. I ordered a Wagyu Burger and it was the best burger I've ever had. Without a doubt. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy and I absolutely love it. We ended with a coffee-infused crème brûlée and it was a perfect ending to the night.

Traveling through the area and meeting up with friends for dinner. Thanks to yelp, we stumbled upon this restaurant. I'm so glad we did. Our dining experience here was amazing. For starters we had the charcuterie board which comes with everything a beautiful smattering of cheeses, cut meats, artisanal crackers little pot of honey, dipping mustard, an assortment of pickled items. I ordered the PEI mussels - omg, the sauce was amazing, do get a basket of bread to dip into the sauce! The dish is perfect with a separate basket on the side for 2 pieces of toast. Luckily my friend taught me how to eat these mussels using the empty shell. The waitress recommended the soup of the day which was carrot soup, roasted brussel sprouts, and fried cauliflower. We ordered all of them and they were beautifully presented and delicious. We also ordered the mac n cheese, additional basket of gluten free bread, and for dessert, the maple creme brulee. The staff was wonderful and you get a bottle of water for the table. We had an amazing experience, if I'm passing through ever again, I will definitely dine here again.

Chef Dan killed it tonight with our plant based meal. He literally went foraging with his son that morning. This establishments reads the reservation comments which is where we notated our plant-based diet). Copper Grouse has really made a special effort for us this past year. We have dined here since they opened years ago and staff has always graciously accommodated our vegan diets. I do feel like they have stepped up their game by working together as a team and wowing customers. This cozy spot is located inside the Kimpton Taconic hotel and has ample parking. You definitely want to make a reservation. The bar is well curated and has many local beers, wines, and spirits. The food is fresh and plentiful. There truly is something for everyone. We will be back again and again.

Consistency like this is rare, and it says everything about the standards they keep. I started with the Pomegranate Granita Oysters, and wow. Bright, refreshing, unbelievably fresh, and balanced perfectly. They were the kind of oysters you slow down for because you don't want the bite to end. I ordered the duck ragu again because I couldn't stop thinking about it from my last visit -- and once again, absolute perfection. Rich, comforting, layered with flavor, and yes... I cleaned the plate spotless. Not a drop left behind. From the hospitality to the execution of every dish, everything about this restaurant screams class, quality, and a superb dining experience. The team makes you feel welcome, the food exceeds expectations, and you leave already planning your next reservation. Manchester is lucky to have a place like this.

It's very new agey and different for the sake of being different. But, the pasta was delicious and high quality! The place has a major attitude problem, though. The aesthetics are off-putting and attract a crowd of the worst types of people. Had to listen to nothing but whiny spite and anger my entire meal from multiple groups of guests. The waiter was the worst aspect, though. I didn't even know he worked there when he approached me. He was dressed down more than a lot of homeless people I've seen. He also shared that same attitude of the guests and made my business feel like an inconvenience the entire time, having the nerve to expect a tip for bringing my food out to me, which I would have just done myself to avoid him. I can recommend carryout, if you absolutely have to have some pasta in this area, but not eating in, and don't get anything that seems weird on the menu. Mainly attributable to SERVICE which was HORRIFYING!! Ambiance was charming home setting outdoors and rustic wood vibe indoors. The food was average/iffy. Garlic peppercorn steak was encrusted with a layer of seasoning and yet it wasn't that seasoned in terms of flavor, was just ok. Ordered medium and yet it looked black on the outside and medium rare inside and beyond tough - I could not even cut the steak, I ended up just ended eating the whole thing straight up. So strange and not worth $30 at all. The Idaho skins were good just wish the potatoes were crispier. The signature applewood smoked wings were so overpriced and terrible. I could not taste any flavor, it tasted like boiled wings expensive 6 for $18. The worst part: service, or rather lack thereof.!! Upon entering, we waited awhile for someone to come greet and seat us and seemed to judge us when we clarifying what tavern was when we were asked if we wanted tavern or dining room. We were seated and took a LONG time until finally our server came to take our order. Then took an even longer time to get our food almost 20minutes. The other table that got seated after us the order the same wings at the same time, got their food 10 minutes earlier than us and their server was present throughout the meal . Ours just was nowhere to be seen throughout the entire time. Finally the food came, we ate quick, and asked for the check. We couldn't even find our server to get the check! The other table has already gotten the check and signing the bill. We then got up and tried to flag down our waiter to for the check and takeout box and after a long time she gave them but disappeared again for a long time so we tried to flag her down, again, so we could actually pay. When we did, she rudely said "do you see the things im carrying? can you wait?" Mind you, we have been waiting for nearly another 20 minutes after we finished eating for any appearance from the waiter. We tried asking the other waiter who was actually present if we could but said we needed to get our actual server. We finally finished the whole transaction (20min waiting for food, 20min spent flagging down the waiter for the check/giving the money), and frustrated we wasted so much time here while on a trip for just OK food, we just left because the server then disappeared AGAIN after settling our bill. Hilariously enough, the only time she seemed to care about us was when we left and she went RUNNING after us to ask us "you did not tip enough, did I do something wrong?" in a rude and fake overly concerned way. After we briefly explained, she proceeds to loudly shame us saying "you supposed to tip me xyz because I provide you a service and if not you're really disrespectful". The audacity. Service was beyond horrible!!! and still demanding higher tips calling customers disrespectful when we did nothing but wait and get yelled at by her for not waiting even longer and still needing to directly pay her extra tips. During that scolding we got, we saw her name tag: Avery. Overall: Foods ok. LONG WAIT for food and check. Horrifying service by one server: Avery. Perhaps other servers were better like the one who took care of the table who sat down at the same time and left 20 minutes earlier meanwhile our service was way slower, not as friendly, demanding tips, and public scolds/shames customers for it. This experience totally soured my impression of this place and now I'm questioning why people even recommended this place to me and why I went along with it!

We ultimately decided to leave. To make matters worse, the server attending the table next to us had about as much warmth as a block of ice, which didn't help the overall atmosphere. Really unpleasant

This is probably the hardest review I've done, and I've taken some time to think about it before…read moredoing so. We came here for my husband's birthday dinner, as we were in the area for a getaway. We were both stationed in Germany back in the day, and he has a particular adoration for German food. And that German food MUST COME WITH SPAETZLE, which is the German version of noodles. Of course he also needs the breaded cutlet, but it all goes together for him: cutlet, gravy, spaetzle. As a vegetarian, German food is often harder for me, and so I really only had one entree choice: the potato pancake, although I believe that wasn't the official name for it. My husband's entree didn't come with spaetzle, but there was a kids meal with it and perhaps it came with other entrees, I can't remember, but we assumed he could switch his side to spaetzle and everyone would go home happy. Au contraire. We went for the appetizer, entree, desert pricing since everything was on the more expensive side and this way we'd just choose from each selection without thinking about the cost. The first problem occurred when we asked if the German pretzel, our favorite share starter, could take the place of one of our appetizers. After all it was the same price or cheaper, AND it's a gd appetizer, after all. Isn't it? No. We were not allowed to do that. So we skipped the pretzel, trying to keep our birthday cheer afloat. Tis but a fleshwound, right? Next he was told he could not substitute spaetzle for the side that came with his entree. Why not? We got a shrug. Then we asked if he could just buy a side of it. We were told it wasn't on the side list so no, he couldn't get a side of it. Imagine! You are told at a German restaurant you can't even BUY THE GERMAN FOOD YOU WANT AS A SIDE. Even though they have it there. At this point we were irritated. But it's his birthday dinner. So we just ordered from the menu and attempted to move on and enjoy the experience. Then the food comes out. It's absolutely delicious! The asparagus appetizer I'd selected was incredible, and my potato entree superb. Hub's portion of cutlet was generous, and he said his whole meal was on point. (With the exception of the missing spaetzle, of course.) We both had the apple streudel for desert, and the flavor was there, but it was super cold, unlike many we've gotten warm and delicious. We weren't a fan of it cold. The atmosphere was nice, and the waitress did a decent job of filling our orders, but seemed to have no empathy for our needs or desires. This all left me torn as to what rating to give the restaurant. The food we got was mostly amazing, except for the temperature of the dessert. I'd give it five stars in a heartbeat. The inflexibility to make the most basic efforts to keep your guests happy: allowing the pretzel to be included in the appetizer choices, and allowing a guest to swap a side for spaetzle or even allowing them to buy it as an extra side seemed to the point of insanity. Isn't the point of having a restaurant to serve people good food in a nice atmosphere so everyone is happy? Someone there has lost the plot. I'd give them a zero if I could for ruining my husband's birthday dinner with this ridiculous behavior. So I settled for a three. This three neither addresses the excellence of the food we ate or the basic failure to keep their guests happy. I hope they stay in business but learn to be flexible. It's not becoming.

My fiance and I spent his entire birthday dinner marveling that nothing was done about a medium rare steak that came out medium/medium well (butcher issue to be fair... one end was worse). When I pointed out the steak was overdone, the server said... "It is?"... and looked at me as if I were wrong; that was the worst part. I've never been uncomfortable being honest about my steak when done incorrectly before, but here we are. So I didn't feel I could ask for a new one without lots of grumbles from staff. I was no longer hungry for anything else as offered, but would've loved the chef to insist on preparing a new one with a warm red center instead of pink. Not even one of our two (nonalcoholic) drinks was comped. At least our dog got lucky since I couldn't eat it. We just can't go back, and that's too bad, because everything else was fine.
