Grilled pork chop with Brussel sprouts
    Donna M.

While staying at the Taconic, we enjoyed breakfast 2 mornings and had one dinner at the Copper Grouse. So this review will cover all! If the weather permits, sit on their beautiful front porch with views of the Green Mountains. All of our servers were exceptional. Extremely polite and friendly. Regarding the breakfasts-the cucumber gazpacho was one of the most refreshing, delightful soups I have ever had! It's such a great blend with the sweetness of the apples combined with the saltiness of the celery and the refreshing taste of cucumbers. Absolutely loved this. We were bummed to hear it was not available the next day but we got to try the tomatoe gazpacho instead, which was almost as perfect as the cucumber. I loved that it didn't have an acidic taste that many gazpachos can take on. It was smooth and creamy. I had the duck confit hash which was phenomenal. My husband had the Croque Madam which was a huge portion. He wound up bringing half to our room to be eaten later. We also tried a side of their chicken and cheese. The next day, knowing how large the portions were, we went with eggs over spinach with a Bernaise sauce on top. Only to find out it also came with English muffins so we were pleasantly full again. For dinner my husband tried the salt & vinegar martini. He liked it but only enough for one drink and then switched over to a traditional martini. Kind of like eating salt and vinegar chips-you can't have too many. For dinner we started with the Vermont cheese board which I was surprised did not have more selections of cheeses. It seemed very basic in this charcuterie era that we are in right now. The only accompaniment was whole grain mustard. There was no 'wow' to the board. For entrees, my husband had an amazing pork chop with Brussel sprouts It was sooo good and so Vermont! I had the blackened sea bass with tomato and fennel broth. However, they brought me out the cod in the coconut broth by mistake. They told me I could enjoy the cod until they brought out my correct dish, which of course, i did! It was delicious and I was almost sad to see it go when my sea bass came out. But the sea bass was equally good although $10 more in price. For dessert we had a blueberry cobbler that was just ok-kind of dry. Overall we had a great experience at the Copper Grouse and will return if back in Manchester!

Seriously nice place with great service and great food. I was slightly tempted to go four stars just because the place is really quite highly priced for Vermont, but the Manchester area is all basically like that and at least the food is worth it in the end. The risotto was so much more filling than I expected and the chicken wings with the Grouse dry rub was an unexpected hit with the table. Worth it.

Oh. My. God. Our server was the nicest server ever and everything came out hot and fresh. I ordered a Wagyu Burger and it was the best burger I've ever had. Without a doubt. The restaurant itself is nice and cozy and I absolutely love it. We ended with a coffee-infused crème brûlée and it was a perfect ending to the night.

Traveling through the area and meeting up with friends for dinner. Thanks to yelp, we stumbled upon this restaurant. I'm so glad we did. Our dining experience here was amazing. For starters we had the charcuterie board which comes with everything a beautiful smattering of cheeses, cut meats, artisanal crackers little pot of honey, dipping mustard, an assortment of pickled items. I ordered the PEI mussels - omg, the sauce was amazing, do get a basket of bread to dip into the sauce! The dish is perfect with a separate basket on the side for 2 pieces of toast. Luckily my friend taught me how to eat these mussels using the empty shell. The waitress recommended the soup of the day which was carrot soup, roasted brussel sprouts, and fried cauliflower. We ordered all of them and they were beautifully presented and delicious. We also ordered the mac n cheese, additional basket of gluten free bread, and for dessert, the maple creme brulee. The staff was wonderful and you get a bottle of water for the table. We had an amazing experience, if I'm passing through ever again, I will definitely dine here again.

This place was connected to the hotel, which made it super easy to eat at. The bartender is super friendly. Service is very quick. The Vardon salad was excellent. I asked for the crab risotto to be made spicy. Unfortunately, it wasn't. But the flavor profile was quite good, the burger was fabulous. Definitely worth a repeat. Not much choice on the menu and price point is a bit high.

Consistency like this is rare, and it says everything about the standards they keep. I started with the Pomegranate Granita Oysters, and wow. I ordered the duck ragu again because I couldn't stop thinking about it from my last visit -- and once again, absolute perfection. Rich, comforting, layered with flavor, and yes... I cleaned the plate spotless. Not a drop left behind. From the hospitality to the execution of every dish, everything about this restaurant screams class, quality, and a superb dining experience. A lot of sports memorabilia and live sports on tv. It did get a bit loud since it was pretty packed but not a problem for two people at a small table. Mainly attributable to SERVICE which was HORRIFYING!! Ambiance was charming home setting outdoors and rustic wood vibe indoors. The food was average/iffy. Garlic peppercorn steak was encrusted with a layer of seasoning and yet it wasn't that seasoned in terms of flavor, was just ok. Ordered medium and yet it looked black on the outside and medium rare inside and beyond tough - I could not even cut the steak, I ended up just ended eating the whole thing straight up. So strange and not worth $30 at all. The Idaho skins were good just wish the potatoes were crispier. The signature applewood smoked wings were so overpriced and terrible. I could not taste any flavor, it tasted like boiled wings expensive 6 for $18. The worst part: service, or rather lack thereof.!! Upon entering, we waited awhile for someone to come greet and seat us and seemed to judge us when we clarifying what tavern was when we were asked if we wanted tavern or dining room. We were seated and took a LONG time until finally our server came to take our order. Then took an even longer time to get our food almost 20minutes. The other table that got seated after us the order the same wings at the same time, got their food 10 minutes earlier than us and their server was present throughout the meal . Ours just was nowhere to be seen throughout the entire time. Finally the food came, we ate quick, and asked for the check. We couldn't even find our server to get the check! The other table has already gotten the check and signing the bill. We then got up and tried to flag down our waiter to for the check and takeout box and after a long time she gave them but disappeared again for a long time so we tried to flag her down, again, so we could actually pay. When we did, she rudely said "do you see the things im carrying? can you wait?" Mind you, we have been waiting for nearly another 20 minutes after we finished eating for any appearance from the waiter. We tried asking the other waiter who was actually present if we could but said we needed to get our actual server. We finally finished the whole transaction (20min waiting for food, 20min spent flagging down the waiter for the check/giving the money), and frustrated we wasted so much time here while on a trip for just OK food, we just left because the server then disappeared AGAIN after settling our bill. Hilariously enough, the only time she seemed to care about us was when we left and she went RUNNING after us to ask us "you did not tip enough, did I do something wrong?" in a rude and fake overly concerned way. After we briefly explained, she proceeds to loudly shame us saying "you supposed to tip me xyz because I provide you a service and if not you're really disrespectful". The audacity. Service was beyond horrible!!! and still demanding higher tips calling customers disrespectful when we did nothing but wait and get yelled at by her for not waiting even longer and still needing to directly pay her extra tips. During that scolding we got, we saw her name tag: Avery. Overall: Foods ok. LONG WAIT for food and check. Horrifying service by one server: Avery. Perhaps other servers were better like the one who took care of the table who sat down at the same time and left 20 minutes earlier meanwhile our service was way slower, not as friendly, demanding tips, and public scolds/shames customers for it. This experience totally soured my impression of this place and now I'm questioning why people even recommended this place to me and why I went along with it!

But there it is, as we were surprised to learn when we stopped by on a recent drive through Vermont. For folks like us who grew up in South Carolina and Georgia, Pearl's menu is home cooking, and pretty tasty, as it turned out. Not that everything worked, but we really enjoyed our dining here, will come back, and want to tell a bit about our experience. While there are some menu items that are generalized, the focus is clearly on the South. We were treated to cornbread first on the table -- delicious -- and then went after appetizers starting with biscuits, which were flaky, soft, cooked just right and perfectly served with both peach butter and gravy. And then the okra pickles (yes, no kidding) were crunchy and tangy. There was a couple at an adjoining table who looked at that last dish as if it was some kind of living alien. We tried to explain. The deviled eggs were first-rate: just a squidge of heat and fine flavor. We ordered the country fried steak, pretty good though just a little bit tough underneath mouth-watering gravy. The shrimp and grits was appealing in part because it's so hard to find grits properly cooked anywhere in New England, and the shrimp (4) were very large but not quite as tender as we would have hoped. A good dish, but not a great one. We ended the meal happy and filled. But... Pearl's is not a cheap trip. The shrimp and grits were $36, the country steak $32. The biscuits and biscuits were $16 each. Our server was very friendly but she missed water refills, and our time between dishes seemed a little too long. It was enough to draw our comments about the wait, never a good sign. We thought the level of noise was on the high side, but that was most likely one table of four people nearby whose conversation seemed to get only higher and higher pitched. It's an attractive interior, an older home, we'd guess, with lot of room for tables. There a nice bar area with a lot of seating, a patio and fire pit, so they can fit in a lot of people in good weather. And there's a small section inside where restaurant merch and some Vermont food items like maple syrup and jams are sold. It adds up to a lot of reasons to hang around. And maybe put away another biscuit or two.

We re-visited the restaurant recently for our 40th wedding anniversary, and I think it's only fitting to offer a view on what is best described as a bastion of excellence and gracious dining in Manchester village, Vermont. Situated in a refurbished former library building, the Silver Fork's setting, decor, and dining experience is indeed textbook flawless. Inside the upscale eatery evokes mid-century Moderne, a setting for the once popular Madmen TV period drama series; tony, chic, but hardly ostentatious and overbearing. On the contrary the high ceilings, lighting and space combine to offer that frozen glimpse of earlier elegance but alongside very contemporary culinary offerings. Table spacing accentuates a good use of space. We started with a "Rubies are Forever" Pomegranate cocktail with Pomegranate boba. The menu is large but not overbearing; a good mix of meats, legumes and fish. Equally the starters are enticing. French Onion soup is amazing but on this occasion we both chose the Duck egg roll with a special peanut sauce. Simply extraordinary and with generous duck portions. For an entree, my wife chose Mahi Mahi Fish, beautifully prepared over plantain. Despite being tempted by a brisket with horseradish sauce, the evening special, I chose the Ratatouille. Why? Prepared properly, this is often hard to find. The Chef's presentation of the southern French staple, was beautifully interpreted, accompanied with some goat cheese. We accompanied our meal with a glasses of red wine. For desert we shared the incomparable Caribbean Bread Pudding which is always a hit here. Allow to me to say our server Lynn showed a genuine experience both in the menu and wine list along with a pleasant disposition. We equally had the opportunity to chat with Melody the co-owner who, along with her husband Chef Mark, described their culinary Odyssey before coming to Vermont years ago to establish Silver Fork. Silver Fork presents a genuine chef-prepared culinary experience both in terms of cuisine as well as ambiance and flawless service. We'll be back!

You can tell that this is an upscale restaurant as soon as as you are seated. The food is the best I have ever had. I have dined in many Michelin starred restaurants but the food at The Silver Fork is beyond reproach. I must say that the cocktails are on the same level as the food served.
