I had the most delicious salad I've ever had in my life! (And I've had MANY!) The service was amazing and the ambiance was truly lovely.

We came literally a few minutes before closing time, and they were kind enough to accommodate our group. There was a few ppl seated enjoying coffee and convos, but no one line, so ordering was quick. Parking- easy, a lot out front of the entrance. Service- was easy, the kind gentleman. I didn't get to ask if he was the owner or much about the business but I wish I had. Food- I split a brekky sandwhich with my friend and it was good. And we shared some of the apple cider donuts. I tried to be good girl and only take a few bites. But I really wanted a whole donut to myself. They are in fact very yummy. I see why this is popular item in this part of the country.

And the owner was sold out of almost everything and was kind enough to let us order some hot breakfast sandwiches, which were so good! I had the bacon, egg and cheese, and the eggs were cooked to perfect, the bacon was nice and crisp just like I like! Bacon in every bite! And the bread it came on was light and fluffy, super yummy. I am not a big donut person, so I didn't try them, but my friends seemed to love them, because the half dozen we got were all gone between the 4 of them!! Great owner, super nice, and so kind! Loved the little cafe, which you can tell is a local fave spot, as there were some ladies enjoying breakfast and looked like they were having a great goss sesh!

Stopped in on a road trip with my family of three, including a toddler. I wanted to like this…read moreplace. The menu has charm and ambition. The name resonated with us, as we have a flock of 20 chickens at home. Unfortunately nearly everything that could go wrong did. The kids menu has zero breakfast options at a breakfast diner. Grilled cheese and hot dogs don't belong on a morning menu. When we tried to order a single pancake for our toddler we were told "the order is for two." No offer to help, no alternative suggested. Just a hard no. Because of the menu structure, our 3 year old's meal was literally the most expensive at the table. The menu is not kid friendly. The cost of Orange juice is also not kid friendly. But they did give him a "the hatchery" sticker when we left. When ordering pancakes the server asked "sausage or bacon?" with no mention that either was a $4 add-on. That felt like an upsell we weren't warned about. One of our three meals was completely forgotten and only caught when two plates arrived at the table. Someone sat and watched the rest of us get served. Chives were on all of our savory dishes. Not mentioned anywhere on the menu. We found out by picking them off our food. Not everyone wants chives. We ordered blueberry pancakes. Plain pancakes arrived. We only discovered this after paying when we questioned a duplicate blueberry charge on the bill. The response was defensive until we opened the box and showed them. The resolution was a $2.50 refund for the missing blueberries. The "home fries" are smashed baked potatoes, not what anyone expects from that menu description. Some of the potato pieces were visibly bruised and discolored and should never have left the kitchen. A hollow apology. Complete indifference. We tipped, packed up, and left quietly. We were good guests. This place didn't earn it.

The waitress says "we make pancakes in that same space on the grill, you're ok with that?" I said well could you have the chef just wipe down that portion of the grill it should be fine. She said "I'm not gonna do that, so if you're not ok with contamination then that's not for you". I was like- you can't take two seconds to just wipe it down? I got up and left- I have never EVER had an issue at a breakfast place in my life. They weren't busy- it's a Monday morning, no reason that should have been an issue. I will never go here again.

Its proprietors, Charlie and Sheryl have created a cosy home-like ambiance, employing rustic wooden tables and chairs and then completing the country look with cheerful red and white gingham tablecloths and window valances. Fun decorative wall signs, many featuring witty quotes, line the walls. Some of them will remind you of the virtues of patience. As this tiny place can accommodate no more than 5-8 tables, waiting for a table is the norm if you intend to dine here. The waiting area is on the ground level. Sign in when you arrive and make your presence known to Charlie who will check in periodically. There are several chess sets laid out for waiting customers, this is a great opportunity to hone your chess skills. You will be invited upstairs to the dining room once your table is available. Vermont Apple Pie Company offers an extensive breakfast menu (waffles, French toast, pancakes, eggs any style...). Everything is freshly made in the kitchen by Sheryl. It truly is a family affair with daughter Erica helping out. Ever since our family fell in love with their delicious waffles, we have been coming here whenever we are in the area. Their freshly made Belgian Waffles have a slight crispy exterior while retaining a lovely fluffy centre. Absolutely scrumptious with just Vermont maple syrup, although sides such as fried eggs, sliced smoked ham, crispy bacon, home fries and sausage patty make great accompaniments. Other perennial favorites include the Apple Cinnamon Waffles, Chocolate Chip Banana Waffles and the Egg Muffin Sandwich. Highly recommended if you are in the area and want to treat yourself to a nice leisurely breakfast.

We looked around at the fresh and frozen pies and they looked appealing. As others have mentioned, there are no prices so that was a little disconcerting. A gentleman came and helped us and as noted in prior reviews, he was somewhat gruff but I didn't take it as grumpy or mean. My take, unsubstantiated by any scientific evidence, is that not every store owner is pre-disposed to having a neurotypical customer-centric focus. That being said, we were offered coffee with our pie slices and a place to sit. There is currently a lot of construction going on at the place because the business was hit hard after COVID and then flooding in Vermont in 2023 caused significant damage. My blueberry coffee cake was good. I will say it wasn't worth $8 per slice. As noted, the prices are sky high here. For two slices, two coffees, a small bag of cookies and a peanut butter bar it was $36....$39 if I wanted to pay by card so I opted for cash and saved the $3. Probably if prices were posted, customers would immediately turn around and walk out. When I saw the price of the pie slice, I immediately thought "This is as expensive as Manhattan". I don't mind as much when I shell out big bucks for food there because it's expected but it was a bit of a shock to see those prices in Vermont. To wrap it up, I agree with others that this place is overpriced and service is brusque at best. However, if prices had been posted, I would have given this 3 stars easily because I appreciate a direct and no-nonsense approach to running a business.
