    Diablo pizza

Absolutely the best pizza anywhere around Okemo!! We have been coming to Goodman's for years now and it is as consistent and spectacular as ever! We always do take out but every time we have been there, the cashiers and the pizza makers are so personable and engaging. We were a little early tonight but they asked us if we wanted a beer and talk to us the entire time. The pool table beckoned but the guys were too awesome to leave. We had cheese, pepperoni and the Diablo pizzas. So amazing and tasty on every level.

After a great day of skiing at Okemo I wanted to grab a quick bite for dinner and pizza sounded good so I figured I would give Goodman's America Pie a chance since it is just down the road from the entrance to Okemo. Located in a small cluster of shops you find a cool funky shop making wood fired pizza. The inside is weird and playful in the good way; when you walk in the order counter is a colorful van and there is all kinds of interesting decor. The seating area has a pool table and a couple of the tables have converted skilift chairs. The menu is pizzas and some salads; as is my usual approach I like to get a cheese pizza as this is the best way to try a pizza. I ordered a large cheese by phone and they said it would be about 15 minutes. When I got to the shop they let me know that it would be a bit longer since they had to double an order in front of me. The pizza making operation has one guy stretching the dough, another topping the pizza and a third manning the wood fired oven which can only handle a couple of pizzas at a time. The good news is that since this is a thin crust and a very hot oven the actual cook time is short. When the pizza came out it filled the box and the pizza is not quite a perfect circle. There are a number of slightly charred parts, the cheese is fully cooked and there are large pieces of tomato around the outer edge. The slices are great, a bit soft and floppy in the middle, crisper outside and the outer crust is crisp like a cracker. The cheese is tangy and just a bit greasy while the sauce is mild and sweet with the tomato hunks adding flavor and texture. Overall one of the best pizzas I have had since they use high quality ingredients, cook the pizza expertly and aren't afraid to be a bit quirky. I would highly recommend Goodman's American Pizza, but it may not be for everyone. They are making an idiosyncratic pizza that is not really mainstream, but is delicious and really well done. If you are in the area give them a try.

Came here due to the reviews and it was literally on my way to Woodstock. Ordered the 12" pizza with half maple bacon and half rip curl, which are the top popular pizzas. The maple bacon was fantastic!!! It was more spicy than I expected. The rip curl was good but if they added some seasoning, it would take it up one level. Maple bacon: 5/5 Rip curl: 4/5

Our plain pizza. Cooked to perfection.

We are from NJ, originally Delco PA. We know our pizza. That being said, this must actually be the one and only good pizza place in VT! I prefer a little more sauce, but the crust was very thin, very good, cooked perfectly. I don't think the crust could handle any more sauce. Staff was friendly and attentive and prices were reasonable they have outdoor seating in the back overlooking a creek if you want to eat with a nice serene view. My daughter got the Caesar salad with chicken and it was also wonderful. She ate the whole thing and helped me eat my pie. Very limited indoor seating so if you go in the colder months you might want to do takeout. In nice weather they have plenty of seating on the front porch area in addition to the indoor dining area.

Sooooo good! What a hidden gem of a stop - It's set back. Was recommended by a good friend and so glad we poked on in. Wood fired pizza that was so delicious. Was two 12" pies, Clint's luau and the Rip Curl. We had two canned pilsners, that were also really good from a local brewery. This will definitely be a regular stop on our yearly trip to Ludlow. Thanks Goodman's, we'll be back!

This local place was one of few places open on a Monday and I'm so glad they were. Yelp was correct with their review. The pizza was so my style (NY) and I loved the every bite. Not much seating but we sat at a table. I'll definitely be back and I'll Will also do take out.

Ordered the Diablo and a plain cheese. The tomato sauce was amazing. The Diablo was the perfect level of spice, definitely not burn your face off. It's worth trying! The vibes in this place are great, not to mention it was very clean. Staff was friendly too. This was true wood fired pizza, might just have to swing by here again next year

Hands down the best pizza around! This family run business makes sure everyone feels welcome. Anytime I visit Vermont, I will be sure to stop here for some great pizza!

In my nearly 30 years now working in, with, and patronizing the food and beverage industry, I've never experienced such repugnant service as what Suzy and I had at The Downtown Grocery. I should point out that we weren't just the usual tourist who come to Ludlow to ski. We actually lived here for several years, and I couldn't post this review until we moved away because of the owner's repeated behavior of attacking people on social media who disagree with or criticize him. The food here is "fine", it's not actually bad or anything. But it is tiny in portions (a rarity for Vermont), and it's overly "chef-y" without actually executing well. It's one of those places where the chef probably thinks that he would get a Michelin star if only they would come to see him, but I can tell you having eaten at over 100 cumulative Michelin stars in my life this is nowhere close. It fails in flavor, presentation, and execution. But again, not terrible. The setting is actually kind of nice too, somewhat homey which is juxtaposed and ruined by the arrogance of the staff. If you don't mind being guaranteed to wait well beyond your actual reservation time, and then waiting probably another hour just to get some meager first courses, then maybe this is the place for you? I doubt it though, there are so many options just in Ludlow alone, and even more that are worth the 45 minute drive to Woodstock or Manchester to avoid having to eat here if you want a "nice" meal. Whatever you do absolutely avoid coming any time near "stick season" or "mud season" (Vermonters will know) because you're guaranteed to get even worse service then. Ludlow has a ton of restaurants for such a small town, many of them quite good. This is the ONLY place we actively recommended friends and guests of ours to avoid. Even the crappy fake taco place down the street got occasional business over this place due entirely to the repeated piss poor attitude of the two owners.

I had their specialty Ruby Bulleit cocktail with bourbon, ginger liqueur, and blood orange juice - the blood oranges were so juicy and fresh! My partner enjoyed the Smokey Elder, which had mezcal, ginger beer, and some other fun ingredients. Can't wait to come here for dinner sometime soon. Make sure you make a reservation!

The selection of entrée items is absolutely the most I've ever seen in a restaurant, it made it hard to decide. I asked the waitress and she said the chicken Cordon Bleu was one of the top items so that's what I picked. It was basic stuffed ham n cheese in the chicken breast, it wasn't breaded, which I liked. It was smothered in a kind of a gravy or white sauce, not quite sure what sauce it was. Hot fresh baked rolls, a basic chopped iceberg lettuce house salad and baked potato included. Also ordered was the chicken tender dinner, very plentiful, enough for 3 people I'd say. Sadly the dipping honey mustard was so bad, like salad dressing with vinegar flavor, not good! I had a glass of Merlot, I'm not sure I've seen an eight dollar glass of wine on a menu in the last decade, so that was pleasant. In general, the server was very efficient, the host not so friendly, and the place was spacious but has very dated decor, which some may consider part of its charm. Unfortunately we're sitting by some very noisy people, taking phone calls and playing sports out loud on their phones acting like they owned the place, kind of ruined atmosphere. But they knew the staff and must think that behavior was acceptable. Bottom line we needed to eat and it was food.
