Cool Vibe, Live Music, Lame Pizza Tho. . . ~$30.00 for a 14" pie that seems to weigh less than the pizza box ! The menu is accurate, in the list of toppings is says 'mushroom' and that is what you get for $3.00. . . a single mushroom. And the ingredients cover just a small area near the center. Very cheap considering. Meets the bare minimum description for pizza. Pay for extra sausage and it shows up with same amount as another pie. They seem happy to take your money but don't seem to care if that relates to what they serve. Been burned here before but was willing to give it another try. Go for the music, go for the vibe but as for the pizza it feels like just throwing money away. read more

The place was pretty quiet & The Big Bag Theory was on TV & I asked if they could put on the Olympics. The skinny tatted bartender didn't even look at me and he just said no. Friendly, local place and live music some nights as well. They also give back to the community. I live locally and typically get pizza at Ramuntos and Goodman's American Pie. Village Pizza in Ludlow is also a choice (New England style ). It's been a few years since going here and figured we'd give it a try instead of dealing with ski crowds in Ludlow. The pizza was inedible: overcooked , some crust burned and petrified, crust was tasteless and the few pieces of ham on my Hawaiian pizza tasted spoiled. My husband's pepperoni and mushroom pizza was also burned and tasteless. Very little toppings were on either. There was plenty of corn meal on the bottom of the pizza; some of that was burned too. This is probably the worst pizza I've ever had since moving here 10 years ago and it's unfortunate because I'd like to support local but will not be going back. My husband and I were spending his birthday weekend in Chester, Vermont and arrived right around dinnertime. On our first evening in Chester, we decided to have dinner at the Pizza Stone. It was a Friday late afternoon; about 4pm. There was only one other table being occupied and the place was nearly dead. But since it appeared to mainly be ran as a bar that also served pizza (as opposed to the other way around), we figured it would pick up later in the evening. We were fine without the crowds anyway. The place was straightened up, but I wouldn't say "clean"; it's an older place with a lot of funky, dusty memorabilia lying around. My husband and I aren't drinkers, so I ordered a water with lemon and he an unsweetened iced tea. We generally order an appetizer, but instead just decided to go with the pizza only. We got a "build your own" with pepperoni, mushroom and extra cheese. They have a lot of different combinations to choose from, but we weren't feeling that adventurous just yet. Generally when we try a new place, we get a basic and go from there. The pizza was out in a jiffy. A woodfired crust, it was very thin and flimsy. I like thin, but prefer a more crispier crust. The sauce was good; not great. It had a familiar flavor to it that I feel like I've had elsewhere. The main problem with the pizza, aside from it being flimsy, was that it was extremely oily. It had an entire yellow layer of oil that sat on top and drained down our wrists with every bite. Aside from that, it wasn't the worst pizza we've ever had. We finished it, but I left feeling a bit disappointed. My overall opinion was just that it was 'okay'. If ever in the area, I wouldn't visit again. Prices were high for one large pizza with 3 toppings and 1 unsweetened tea at $22.62. Service was just okay, which seemed to be the theme for our entire visit. read more

I was very excited to go to the pizza Stone. It looks pretty good and I was extremely disappointed with the pizza. It had terrible crust that almost had the consistency of a flour tortilla. No taste whatsoever, and it was mushy and soft. The mozzarella not very tasty either. Really big disappointment. read more

Ordered 4 pizzas recently. All had a super thin over baked crusts with minimal ingredients. Hawaiian pizza needs more than 8 pieces of pineapple! Very nice establishment , pizza is ok , the kids liked it , but don't expect NJ or NY. The wings were good and their maple hot sauce was really nice. Staff was friendly and there's a little bar and lots of table space. There was live music on a Friday night so a nice place to be. Takeout was a one hour wait but they seater tables right away. There is an option for pies you bake at home and you can have that right away. If I'm in Chester VT again I would go back. Pretty much the only game in town for pizza so it's the best by default! read more

This place was awesome for casual apres-ski pizza and beer. We went on MLK weekend after skiing at Okemo and the vibes were great - the place was full but not too crazy and had fun live music. For two people, we split two small pizzas and a half salad, plus some good VT beer. No bud light here. Service was great, too. Would definitely recommend!! read more

I only heard about this place recently, and have been wanting to try it. Last Friday I drove by at a little after 12 pm and saw a few lights on. I pulled in and lo and behold, the place was open. It's only open three days a week from 12-8. Well went in and sat at the bar. The bartender was also the only server working and there were two other couples besides me in the restaurant. I ordered a tap beer and a Margarita pizza. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. The beer was very good. The pie was also very good. I lived in NYC for 35 years and the Pizza of course was pretty tremendous. You cant find such good Pizza up here. But I have one place in Manchester, NH (Alley Cat Pizza), and now this place. I'll definitely be going back to try their other pies. Thin and crispy crust and well made in what I assume is a wood fired or coal fired pizza oven. I could be wrong about that. But the pizza was delish. I recommend you try it. read more

I was born and raised in the New Haven CT area, the home of legendary pizza places like Sally's, Pepe's and Modern Pizza. Whenever we go on vacation, our two boys always want to go out for pizza and we have to tell them we just can't. You see, when you go to the "best pizza" place on the Cape, in Myrtle Beach, in Maine....it won't even resemble pizza as we know it in New Haven. That being said, we went to the Pizza Stone to enjoy their beer list and array of taps. And enjoy them we did! However, in the process, we also had some pretty delicious pizza. We had delicious concoctions with slice potatoes and pulled pork on them. The food was fresh, much of of it was locally sourced, and it was delish. The best part of this place is the vibe. From the eclectic decor, friendly and almost-too-laid-back staff, and awesome music, you cannot help but relax the minute you walk in the door. I might go back to VT just to hang out some more at The Pizza Stone. read more

Were just there Saturday night. There was a female singer but we wanted to catch up with old friend, Cass and were lucky to get an outdoor table. Some had gluten free pizza and liked it. I had traditional and it was very good. Can't say it was a fav as I'm spoiled as I live less than 3 miles from The Star Tavern which is legendary. But, I'm not in New Jersey... I have twins. One hates pizza...except for at Pizza Stone. It's the only pizza she will eat. We love coming here for a relaxing evening. We bring card games and just enjoy the pace of the atmosphere as we wait for our food. If you get there before 5:30 most nights the wait isn't so bad. read more

Just when you think you like it they do something stupid like ask people to leave or close the kitchen at 9 when the website says they are open until midnight on Friday night. You just get the sense this place is run by the seat of the pants. It's never great and it's never terrible. We had the wings last night and they were killer. Then a pizza blah for the first time, its usually really good. This time the crust had no flavor. They run the place like they have never worked in a restaurant before and are figuring things out as they go along. Just wish they would be a little nicer sometimes. Loving the Pizza Stone! We have been here twice. We are from out of state but have family in the area who are native to VT. The Pizza Stone is the hippest thing in Chester but one of the cooler spots I've been to in a much wider swath. A former auto garage turned into a specialty wood fired pizza place with wonderful creations, build your own, take out or eat in and great apps and salads, etc to share. The decore is a mad hatter assortment of collected ephemera. Long beer list... nothing main stream corporate but some VT favs. And while they can be slammed on Saturday nights which can make service a little frenetic-- they have cool regional bands. We came upon Cactus Attack by chance. What a mind blowing talented crew. They call themselves alternative country. But they SLAYED the alt/Indy/rock scene-- stand up base, electric guitar, amplified acoustic guitar and drums. What a cherry on top! And people were there... 25 to 65 with kids. The place was hopping... the band was great, yet something was missing... our beers all arrived with the appearance someone had taken a good sip out of them...yes the infamous short pour. Not to be deterred we ordered appetizers, and found our waiter was attentive but overworked, we ended up getting our own plates , napkins and silverware. More beer, (still short) pizza's..ran up a good bill..and then the final straw..no sooner had we paid the bill and the owner swung through and said "will you be leaving soon?" Ouch. After a truly terrible experience at another local establishment, we made our way to the Pizza Stone in Chester! I don't know why this wasn't our first choice. When we walked in they were clearly busy. There was a band playing and it looked like every table in the place was taken. I figured we would have a solid 30-45 minute wait to get a table. To my surprise we were seated almost immediately. The owner of the place was quick to make room when it was needed. We places our drink order and before we had even decided on our dinner selections our drinks and appetizers were at the table! Our food was delivered promptly and was delicious! When we were getting ready to box up our leftovers the owner even packed up some extra ranch dressing, that we had been dipping our crusts in, to take home. Bottom line, delicious food, awesome craft beer, good music, and attentive service! This will for sure be my first choice every time in the future! This is perilously close to a meh. I really do love the pizza these guys make, and the concept has merit - but execution/operation is really suffering from bad management (I suspect management is actually nonexistent, but that's bad!) Slow, sloppy, seldom-sober service. Short pours (as others have mentioned) Closed whenever they feel like closing - glad the Scottish pub is just down the road as you really need a backup in case the Pizza Stone just couldn't get it together. Staff react as if put-upon when customers show up, if you're lucky enough to catch them open they still won't be in the mood. Yeah. I'll still go, but I won't go hungry or even particularly thirsty. It's worth going for the quality of the food and for the Edward, but only if I don't care whether I actually end up there... so lame. read more
