They have cupcakes in all of the standard flavors, as well as some unique combinations (Jim's Darn Cake is chocolate orange, Citrus Explosion is lemon and orange, Mopsy is carrot cake and ginger). Actually, just about everything at Muddy's is delicious. I have yet to have a cupcake or cookie or slice of pie that doesn't taste amazing.Ok, so all of the cookies don't look perfect, and the icing isn't exact, but that just adds to the charm. Love Muddy's. Everytime I'm in Memphis I find my way here to pick up a couple sweet desserts! My favorite is probably the plain jane vanilla... vanilla cake and vanilla frosting. Of course the red velvet is good, the lemon extra tangy, the strawberry delish.. but I like the vanilla. Occasionally by the end of the day they don't have a huge selection, however, I don't mind so much. I'm always happy to see a small business sell out of their products so when I visit I'll never be disappointed if they are sold out of my fave flavor. Y'ALL. I live in Texas and today is my best friends (who lives in Memphis) birthday and after googling the best cupcakes in Memphis, Muddy's was the clear favorite! I went on their website and ordered the prozac cupcakes to have them ready on her birthday and left a little note explaining that I couldn't be in town to celebrate with her but wondered if they could add a candle or something for me. I've been going to Muddy's for years. Their cupcakes are one of a kind and their other baked goods are just as amazing. You can't go wrong with the Prozac. Seriously, it's my favorite chocolate cake PERIOD. The thing I like most about Muddy's is not so much about the cupcakes, but more of the smiling faces that work there. I always get the Prozac and maybe something else. The only downside about going here is the price. You pay about $2.25 or $2.50 a cupcake which can be a little steep if you wanna order a ton! Absolutely an amazing bakery! Very clean and cutesy. They have many delicious desserts, cupcakes and coffee. Cupcakes are perfect. Perfectly most cake with the right amount of indulgence in frosting. This place always is busy. If you need a cake or large order of cupcakes I would call it in a couple days ahead. The location is off of White Station and a couple strip malls before Kroger and is hidden in a bunch of other locally owned specialty shops and a dentist. Another vacation to Memphis means another stop to this jewel of a bakery. Just as the case during my first visit a year ago, Muddy's has some of the best cupcakes I've ever tasted. I was looking for a nice birthday cake for my self and I had actually never been to Muddy' s. Stumbled upon pictures of their blueberry cake during a Google search. It looked so delicious that I preordered it right away. Boy did it not disappoint! It was moist and sweet but not overly sweet. The blueberry fillings just made it pop. I also got some lemon and strawberry cupcakes too. They were just as delicious. I loved the lemon because I could taste the lemon zest. I needed to order a birthday cake for my aunt they were very helpful with getting it ordered (I'm out of state) for a very simple 3 layer cake they took advantage and charged me 80 bucks. My aunt said the cake was very dry, she had to drink water cuz it was so dry, she also disliked the frosting, it didn't taste like a true butter cream looked like they just slapped on the frosting. Muddy's is my favorite place for baked goodies in Memphis. Of course the treats are great, but the staff is amazing! They are always beyond friendly and inviting, and they know how to make a great recommendations! I used to work right around the corner from the Sanderlin location and I can tell you that it is really hard to resist the temptation of their cupcakes and pies. What I love the most about Muddy's is that the things I buy from them remind me of home. Their pecan pie is the closest thing I have ever tasted to my g-ma's! The icing on their lemon cupcake (The Pucker Up) is almost identical to the icing that my aunt makes for her lemon cakes. Wow. Too bad on the following. The sign on their door says that they won't be re-opening the Mid-town (on S. Cooper) Memphis vacant store. It lists in handwriting sadly the many reasons why. Presumably by the owner. I also wondered that should the pandemic continue long haul, what of their Broad St. existence? This has affected so many smaller Mom & Pop businesses like these which end up just shutting their doors. Especially in a community that's re-vitalizing and the older character being brought back by its proud residents. I guess times do change and perhaps another similar owner will take their place? Or, maybe they can strike an agreement with whom wants to own such a place with the Muddy's Bakeshop recipes. It is such a prime location, too. I know it's a local place, but there are other great local bakeries in town and even places that individually specialize in cakes, cookies and pies that I would rather frequent. I've been going there for years now, since a couple months after they opened and it will forever be my favorite dessert place. I actually had Muddy's at my wedding! All the desserts are delicious, the combinations are fun, the people who own it and work there are amazing, the decor inside is adorable. There is so, so much to love about Muddy's. The cupcakes are the star though as they taste great and have the perfect cake to frosting ratio. They don't exactly cater but you can make large orders to be picked up for special events. I ordered a strawberry fields forever cake (my fav!) which wasn't exactly in season for my wedding but it was my favorite and no problem for Muddy's. The cake and cupcakes we had at our wedding were a hit with everyone. Some notes: There is usually a line so be prepared to wait. There is hardly any seating inside or outside so you also might not get a place to sit. It usually doesn't bother me because I always get cupcakes to go but you might have trouble sitting and enjoying a cupcake depending on time of day. read more

Six cupcake flavors are always on offer- Prozac, Plain Jane, Pucker Up, Classic, Capote, and Frankly Scarlett- and six additional flavors appear every week. All of the ones I tried packed a lot of flavor and were ultra-buttery. You can also get birthday / occasion cakes, cupcakes, and treats by special order. I was a little slow to jump on the Muddy's bandwagon. I've been meaning to try them for several months now...but when I tasted their chocolate chip cupcake that someone brought to work one day...i was in love! It turned out I was getting a manicure that afternoon right next to Muddys (what a coincidence)--so i bought at least 3 cupcakes to try out. I also tried the red velvet and coconut cupcakes which were equally delicious. I consider myself a cupcake aficionado (I had a cupcake tower instead of a wedding cake at my wedding reception so that's enough proof, right?). Muddys cupcakes are beautiful, and simply decorated...not a lot of fussy decorations...just a seriously moist cake and complimentary icing. I have been a Muddy's customer since the very beginning, just days after it opened. And despite the HUGE growth and success the adorable bakery tucked behind Clark Tower has seen, the products and service have remained consistently wonderful. The staff are so friendly -- in fact, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize for all the times I've held up the line while chatting at the register. I've been all over New York City and Dallas to find amazing cupcakes. Never once did I think to search Memphis of all places for great cupcakes. We went here partly because of the online reviews I have read about this place, and partly because it is nearby Corky's (the best BBQ in TN). Their cupcakes are amazingly good. I had one bite, and had to turn the car around to get more. The Lemon cupcake (I believe it is called Pucker Up) was phenomenal, and I cannot believe how much I enjoyed the Strawberry Fields Forever cupcake. I ordered probably every flavour cupcake they had that day because Dallas doesn't have cupcakes close to these. They all were good, but the two previously mentioned above were my favourites. With that said, I do have some complaints. While the cake part of the cupcakes were moist and flavourful, (which I find to be one of the hardest things for cupcake shops to achieve) the frosting isn't great. The frosting is usually my favourite part of a cupcake, but not with these. The texture was really grainy, and I believe it is because they use shortening in the frosting. The cookies (we tried chocolate chip and the rosemary cookie) weren't anything to write home about. Although the rosemary cookie was interesting, it wasn't amazing. I wouldn't buy the cookies again. In all, they have some of the best cupcakes I have ever tasted. Better than Sprinkles, Crumbs, or any fancy bakery in NYC, and less expensive too. The problem with most of the bakeries mentioned above is that their cakes are too dry or dense. With Muddy's, it is the complete opposite...they just need to change their frosting and their cupcakes would be mindblowing. read more

Muddy's Bake Shop holds a very special place in my heart. Muddy's is the type of place you go into when you are having a really terrible day. One look at the place and you cannot be in a bad mood. It's like walking into a big ball of sunshine. Then, when you take a bite of a cupcake, your life is instantly the greatest in all the land. I have tried an assortment of Muddy's cupcakes, the Grasshopper and Strawberry Lemonade being two of my favorites. There is always something new and exciting to try. This particular time I tried the Chocolate Chimp and Lemon. The trouble with Muddy's is that I can never order just one cupcake. I usually end up with at least two, sometimes a half dozen to take home. These were not to disappoint! The fruitier ones always put me in the best mood, as they always taste light and refreshing. Not too mention, all of the staff always has a giant smile on their faces are always willing to strike up a conversation. They make you feel very welcome. Another place I visited in Memphis while checking on my sick mom. This place was right outside a movie theatre. Not that you would have seen it without yelp. Wifey wanted pie, I searched pie and got this place. "shrug" There was a line, people really like this place. I don't get cupcakes. I mean they are good an all but are not the neatest thing to eat. They are like bite size cakes that you don't need a fork but it would be awesome if you had one. I only eat cupcakes with forks now... I wonder if this makes me boo-chi... I got the sweet potato (because c'mon, I'm south of the Mason DIxon, and we don't 'get' sweet potato pie up here in the north), and the tollhouse cookie pie. Both pies were served cold, which is a general no-no. The sweet potato pie lacked character and flavor. The tollhouse was even worse, those are normally served warm, ooey, and gooey, instead it was just blandly sweet with hard chunks of ne'er melted chocolate chips. Would not go back, would not recommend.
