My colleagues and I hosted a baby shower in their classroom. It was the cutest thing!! They do a cake frosting tutorial at first and then each person got 4 cupcakes and 4 cookies to decorate. So generous! And they give you everything you need. Frosting and sprinkles. The treats were SO DELICIOUS!! We even got to go home with the cake the staff frosted for us. The classroom is incredibly cute. So adorably decorated. We didn't even need to decorate for the baby shower, as the room was already quite festive. This place is a wonderful bake shop. Everyone that works here is friendly. There are always amazing choices as well. Cookies, pies, cupcakes...it's tough to choose because they're all tasty. The space itself is visually appealing and it smells so good. It's always nice to try some samples too. The 5-spice pumpkin pie was especially tasty. I try to stop in every time I'm back in Memphis. The shop is cute both outside and inside. There is a window outside where people can view the employees baking, and there is a mailbox that blows out bubbles. The interior is very clean and quite organized. The register is by the door, along with coffee, cold products, beverages, and a small freezer for take home goods. There's an area by the window with baking supplies for sale, and on the other side is an area that sells products made by locally-owned businesses. Towards the center are the goods. There is an area where you have the option to take a number. It allows you to keep your place in line, in case you wish to browse the shop without having to rush or worry about a sudden crowd. I think it's a nice add on, especially since the shop's hours are fairly short. With Halloween upon us, the desserts followed the theme. We decided upon a lemon cupcake, and 3 cookies and creme style cupcakes with chocolate ganache. They had little ghosts on them. The lemon cupcake was good, and the C&C wasn't bad. The bakery is cashless, so make sure to have a card on hand. Both your cupcake box and bag are recycle friendly, and the bag is cute with characters and conversation drawm around. Prepare to spend near $4 for an individual cupcake. I'll give this one a rating: cute and sweet. Even at their former location, it was a very cute and friendly shop. Muddy's is a local favorite and has been around for years. They have a variety of flavors, and they offer many products for both your baking and curiosity needs. They even offer baking classes. Stopped in to get a take home desert. Lots of options. We chose a "A kick in the pants lemon chess pie" in the cooler. It was frozen solid but was told leave it out a couple of hours and it'll be great. We followed the directions. However, the pie was not the consistency of a chess pie but more like a not quite congealed gelation. Think of slightly runny jello and you get the picture. We discussed it and wondered if the freezing had effected the filling? As lover a chess pie since a kid, when my great aunt made them for me, I was disappointed. Personally I consider it an afront to call it a chess pie. read more

I appreciate that they sell a half dozen - allowed us to get a bigger variety - and that there are minis as well. The cupcakes were a big hit. I walked into Muddy's, not sure what to expect and I found this cute shop with tons of baked food and things. I walked around the entire store before carefully selecting a few items. It was Pi day so I got a hand held Pear Pie, a pack of chocolate chip cookie, a pack of Rice Krispie Treats, and a slice of sweet potato pie. Lots of people love cupcakes with minimal icing or none. I love the wheat germ muffins (but I should not eat them) and I love less sweet things. Cool little quaint bakery in a cool part of the city. The inside bakery area is very small with pretty few selections but what they do have is very good. A lot of outdoor seating is available with old ironing boards used for tables. My daughter particularly liked the Oreo pudding and chocolate chip cookie. I have been a big fan of Muddy's for years. I was a frequent patron of their East Memphis location, however, that location has been closed during the pandemic. This was my first time in the Broad St bakery and I'm so happy they are open!! The bakery is open for walk ins Thursday - Saturday from noon until 5. For walk ins, they have pre packaged items (cupcakes, cookies, pies, other delicious treats as well as clothing and bakeware). You can't pick single cupcakes out of a display case here - they have two or four of the same type pre packaged together. If you do want to pick, you can call in your order in advance and pick it up from a separate window off to the side. I LOVE all of their food. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of their cupcakes! They are always so moist and the perfect cupcake to icing ratio. But prozac, grasshopper, and cookies and cream are probably my favorites. Their key lime pie is also so so tasty!! And they serve mini pies in case you are just wanting a little dessert for one! Love how they decorated the shop as well. So cute and homey! There are a few tables outside as well to sit and enjoy your treats. And the tables are made from ironing boards! This place is a Memphis staple, so no matter where they are located, you need to make a stop here and try some treats! read more

This place is such a delight! I stumbled upon it while strolling down Broad street for the first time. At first I was like, should I go in there? I don't know why the hesitation. It's really welcoming! So just go in if they're open, everyone is nice. Inside looks like a charming old fashioned grocery store. Make sure to grab a metal basket because you'll be easily tempted by all the goodies and it'll be more than you can hold. They have a table near the door with cooking items and fun stuff in bags like cookie sandwiches. I love the rack behind it because that's where my favorite treat lives-- the brown butter Rice Krispie treats. I love Rice Krispie treats so it was the first thing I tried from Muddy's. These are heavenly. Unlike most Rice Krispie treats they aren't overly sweet but they are still sweet enough and soft with the right ratio of chew from the marshmallow and crunch from the Rice Krispie cereal. But the best part is they added brown butter and salt so sometimes you get this surprising salty note and sophisticated caramelization. Try these for sure. The main area is full of cupcakes and cookies. There's a fridge for the puddings and the savory & sweet pies. The first couple of times I went was around closing time so it was very chill. I had fun picking out my items. But then I went at opening (noon) and it changed my world! First of all the place was BUSY. It's not overly crowded but way busier than me by myself after 5. Most importantly that's why I discovered they have CAKE SLICES and they must sell out fast so I never saw them during the late afternoon. The cake slices are sooooooo good. I love the strawberry cake but my favorite was the grasshopper which was chocolate cake and mint frosting. I'm not even a chocolate cake fan but I decided to give it a try. Ohhhh man the cake was so moist and not too chocolate, just the right amount. It mixed with the mint buttercream like a dream! I was so sad I didn't buy a full cake! I miss it... There were a couple of misses. The brownies I got were a bit hard. I haven't been overly impressed with any of the cookies. But the very fun part is that the menu changes every week! So there's always something new to try. It's probably best that Muddy's is open only 3 days a week. Chances that you'll wanna go there every day is very high! Online ordering is super easy. They have a pick up area that gives prompt attention. Only sad thing is you can't order cake slices online, just whole cakes, so I recommend getting to the shop early for the best selection. I had the pleasure of visiting Memphis, TN this past week and it was an amazing trip to say the least:). Prior to my trip I did some research on YouTube and Muddy's Bake Shop was a must try for me. Super cute on the inside with nice decor with warm friendly customer service, and the Prozac cupcake was delicious;). Moist chocolate cupcake with the perfect amount of frosting. While I sure miss the experience of the cute dine in coffee/bake shop in the Cooper Young area I'm so glad to still be able to get their amazing baked goods right from the bake shop at their Broad Street kitchen. The Prozac cake is truly the best chocolate cake I've ever eaten. Magically it's as moist or maybe even more moist on days 2 and 3 as on the first day we slice into it. Huge fan of the cupcakes too. I miss Muddy's. They have been operating out of their kitchen on Broad. You can pre order for pickup Th-Sat. Or you can just drop in for their "bake sale" on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. They have all kinds of goodies to choose from. Each week they have only a few flavors of cupcakes. This week they had vanilla bean, strawberry, Prozac (all chocolate) and Grasshopper (chocolate cake and mint frosting). Husband is a huge Muddy's fan so I got him vanilla bean cupcakes (vanilla cake and vanilla buttercream). You can buy 2 (of the same variety) or 4 (of the same variety). No single cupcake purchases. You can also buy a variety pack that had 1 of each flavor. They also have cookies, bars, mixes, quiche, chicken pot pie, buttercream icing, Sweet Magnolias gelato and several other things. Their stock may change. Just drop by and see what they have during the bake sale. By the way, the cupcakes were DELICIOUS! Muddy's is always good. Their cupcakes are very moist and flavorful.
