a variety of baked goods on display

This is a great Mexican bakery! Fresh breads, cakes, cookies, etc! I remember living in New Mexico and going to a bakery and getting morning empanadas. I miss that, but I can get them at Kay's! The staff is welcoming and helpful. I wish I would had visited this place earlier! Kay's is guaranteed to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth!

After a recent breakfast at the Pancake Shop, a bakery across the street caught my eye. It looked like an old-school Memphis bakery with a Hispanic twist. It looked so interesting that I had to go in (that, and because I'm a total sucker for baked goods). As it turns out, I was right. Kay Bakery is a place where the old is colliding with the new. All of the cases have ancient sliding glass doors and some of the white model cakes on the top shelf are yellowing with age. Inside the cases, classic danishes, rolls, cookies and creme horns share shelf space with exotic Mexican pastries. Across the room, international phone cards hang on the wall and bins of plastic cake toppers labeled "Dora the Explorer" and "Grim Reaper" are stacked behind the counter. The cookie case is full of wedding cookies and those fabulous not-too-sweet iced cookies. I picked up two empanada-style pastries with apple and strawberry filling, a cookie with sprinkles, and a cinnamon-covered pastry cup filled with apples. The shell of the pastry was super fresh, not too thick, and had just a hint of sweetness. Inside, the hollow pastry had a layer of thick, sweet strawberry jelly lining one side. All of the pastries that I've tried from Kay Bakery have been incredibly fresh. They're also incredibly inexpensive. My four-pastry haul rang up to $3.50. Kay Bakery also sells bread, and the items in the bakery cases change daily. When you get there, grab one of the big flat metal trays and a pair of tongs and load up on deliciousness, both familiar and exotic.

On a whim tres leches birthday cake ready for pick up on a Sunday afternoon! Yummy!

Good selection of authentic Mexican breads at an affordable price. Would recommend getting a variety of their breads.

The atmosphere and decor of this coffee shop are both inviting and antique bringing feelings of the historic times and souls once living in the area. The "team"working here were both professional, kind and friendly. When eating in your entree is hand delivered with a smile in a timely manner. I even got a brief visit from the supervisor/possible owner asking if I needed anything and how everything was going. When I replied with a positive experience he said he will pass on the word to the team. I liked that he gave credit to everyone/team. I will definitely return when in town for business and recommend to my colleagues.

The aesthetic is really well done. It's warm, modern, and just a place you actually want to hang out in for a while. The staff were great and super helpful, especially when it came to working around a few syrups they were out of. They offered substitutions without any fuss, and it honestly worked out for the better. All of their syrups are made in-house, and you can really taste the difference! They're fresh and not overly sweet or artificial. We ordered a Bourbon Mocha and a Carrot Cake Latte (which was absolutely to die for), and decided to keep breakfast on the lighter side with a slice of sourdough and two cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls, though, are not your typical style. Instead of the usual big, fluffy roll, they spiral the dough tightly and bake it that way. The result is this super fun, peel-apart situation where you're unraveling layer after layer. It feels like there are eight layers of cinnamon-sugar goodness to work through! Overall, Hustle & Dough has great coffee, thoughtful house-made syrups, unique pastries, and a really welcoming vibe. Definitely a spot I'd go back to next time I'm in Memphis.

When I walked in I was enveloped by the beautiful aroma of fresh baked bread, that smell has a hold on me and I can't resist. I was greeted and my questions answered about their offerings and I somehow settled on a few items to try. The chocolate chip cookie was buttery with a hint of salt. The molasses cookie had bits of ginger throughout. That chocolate chip croissant creation was in fact gooey on the inside. Lastly, the Blueberry Muffin was full of blueberries, an excessive amount and I'm here for all of it!! All I can say is if you like bakeries, you'll love this place! The croissant is also on point. The challah rolls? So soft and the perfect amount of sweetness. Last but not least, the guy who checked us out had a great personality and was genuinely kind. We will definitely be back!
