I usually shop at a different pet store in West Seattle (we're very fortunate to have a lot of options for locally owned pet stores with great selection), but the other day I ran out of dog food and that other store had already closed because it was a Sunday. Luckily Mud Bay is open until 7 and I called but they don't carry my brand, the woman that answered the phone spent a good 10-15 minutes with me just finding out the ingredients and nutritional information to get a close match and then told me that they have enough free sample bags of a food that matches to get me through the night. They were so nice about the whole thing and it was obvious that they were more concerned about my dog getting food that wouldn't disrupt her digestive system than anything else. Such a great experience, I will definitely be shopping at Mud Bay a lot more in the future. read more

Thank Goodness for Mud Bay today! I'm unable to get to and from the store due to an injury. The manager personally delivered me a bag of dog food on her way home for no charge. It's often difficult to find such stellar customer service but I found it today & any other time I visit any one of the Mud Bay stores. read more

I love this store. The selection is better than any of the Pet stores in West Seattle. They have the coolest stuff and its not overpriced. I picked up a pet carrier that is light and the perfect size for my cat. She loves it. The staff were great and even sprayed it with both cat nip and honeysuckle scent. The staff is knowledgable and really care about you and your pets. Its also really convenient. I don't have to drive round and round to find a parking spot. I park in the grocery store parking lot, go one way to my grocery shopping and then the other to Mud Bay for the cats. I can even place a takeout at Circa and have it ready when I'm done shopping. This place is Amazzzzzing. Every time I go to a pet store, I end up leaving frustrated because no one knows anything nor has a moment to spare. But not this store! The staff was so knowledgeable that I finally left a pet store with exactly what I was hoping for. I spent so many hours researching what food to give my puppy because everything I was buying was upsetting her stomach and it was getting so overwhelming...there are just too many foods to choose from. I finally walked into this store and they suggested a puppy food that has great ingredients without all those fillers and crap that most dog foods have. They were even saying that they have a vet who approves the foods that they get, so that they can filter out the unhealthy stuff. They suggested healthy treats and prebiotics for her sensitive tummy as well. I'm just so thrilled there is a local pet shop that isn't understaffed and has employees who will actually help their customers. read more

Being new to Seattle, I decided to try this shop out as it's in our neighborhood. I was looking for an alternative diet for my highly allergic GSD/Shar-pei mix, and a collar for our puppy. While I didn't find the perfect collar (he's tiny w/ limited selection), I did discuss my other dog's diet and allergy history. An associate recommended to try the raw meat diet. She answered all my questions, and gave us samples. All of the associates were very friendly, helpful, offered coupons, and there was even a thank you note included from the manager. We purchased some other items to resolve a cat urine incident in my brand new jeep, and they even assured us if the situation wasn't solved to return the items. I felt very good after going in, which I feel sometimes in specialty stores they can be overpriced and have somewhat presumptuous sales staff. Here that is definitely not the case. Went in to pick up some food for my new puppy and told the staff I was having trouble finding something that didn't give my 5-month old puppy the upset stomach and diarrhea she was getting from the brand-name dog foods. They knew exactly what my puppy needed and gave me a grain-free fish protein meal as well as some chicken & carrot dog snacks. Just days after feeding the food to my puppy her upset stomach and diarrhea went away. I would highly recommend visiting this store for your pet's needs not only is the staff superb but the quality of product they have is unmatched to anything i've seen and it doesn't break the bank. read more

Coming from a retail background I have certain basic customer service expectations, these folks let me down. I spent 10 mins looking at the harnesses & not one if the 3 associates at the front counter even acknowledged me to say "hello" or "welcome". They were chatting about going out somewhere to eat/drink and charity donations from the past month. It's important in an establishment that works with the public, and in sales, to always acknowledge the customer. Statistically a customer that is acknowledged, and has to wait a bit for assistance if the associate is working with someone else, will wait up-to 10mins just because of that welcoming environment a retailer creates. I even walked around the store thru a few aisles, 1 associate walked by and even didn't say "hi". But when someone they knew walked in they all said "hello" to them. Hmmm. I have so many great things to say about this store, but I HAVE to talk about the staff in this review based on my experience there today. Each time I have been in, there is someone there to answer any question I may have, and this particular trip sealed the deal. April (from the Burien store) was helping out in West Seattle today and changed the whole feeding routine for our two kitties. She stayed and talked with us for nearly 20 minutes, guiding us to the right foods and researching/comparing them to our Costco kibble that we are currently using. Apart from all the tips and tricks to incorporate into our cat's diet, she pick and chose specific wet food, dry food, and treat samples for us to take home and experiment with. She truly set us up for success and we are so excited to get our cat's diets back on track. i got stuck on mud bay when i lived/ worked on greenwood. it wasnt my first time in a natural pet food store, but it definitely made me a fan. the employees had SO much information regarding new kittens and their habits. ive moved a time or two since then and im more than happy to know mud bays are in all neighborhoods of seattle!! read more

This is a truly unique pet store. It's part of a chain of 17 stores, but it doesn't feel like it. It feels local. They have a wonderful selection of high quality dog food. Their staff is so nice and freakishly (in a good way :)) knowledgeable about pet care! read more

What a great place! I got a new dog in January and I needed some help with the type of foods and toys needed for a 16 week old puppy. These people were awesome! MUD BAY TRULY CARES!!! I had purchased a Spindrift collar at Mud Bay and the plastic d-ring snapped off and my dog ran off. She ran several blocks down Calif. Ave and was stopped by a couple who took her to a local vet who ID'd her by her microchip and they contacted me. My poor dog could have been hit by a car and she was bleeding from having her paw pads all worn down from running on rough pavement. When I first saw her she was shaking from pain and fear. I contacted Mud Bay and let them know what happened and they took action immediately and contacted the collar vendor and took that collar off their shelves. The manager of the store followed up with me, then the regional manager contacted me and told me that the owner of the company was concerned over what happened. The vendor did not take responsibility for the vet bill but Mud Bay felt responsible for having sold a dangerous collar and offered me a gift card to cover the vet bill. Since then the collar vendor has replaced those collars with a metal D-ring. This company is incredible and they truly care about their products and our pets. Trust me... it's worth going there to buy your food, toys, treats and anything else for your pet. I won't shop anywhere else. Another thing to note: Every time I go into the store, they greet me and my dog immediately. They have incredible customer service. It's rare to find a store that has this much devotion to their customers. read more

Okay, this is the best place to buy food, toys, chews, etc for your pet! I feel like the staff is soooo nice and completely helpful every time I walk in the door. They are never pushy either. Oh, did I mention that they memorized my dog's name??? Um, I love that. I love bringing my dog here, I feel so welcomed by everyone. The quality of the product here is like no-else. I know if I buy my stuff here that I am being mindful to my dog's health. FINALLY! So comforting knowing that they have my pet's best interest at heart just like I do. I've patronized both the West Seattle and downtown Mud Bay branches and have only good things to say about both. When I first got their catalog, I almost didn't open it because I know "Mud Bay" is in Olympia, but happily I did, as there was a very generous coupon and plenty of Seattle stores. I first called by phone to price-check a few items I'd been ordering from Amazon, and they were helpful and not offended. One particular item was cheaper on Amazon, but others were competitive, and they also told me about their generous policies to ensure your pets are happy. They have lots of free sample baggies of dry food from the manufacturers, so I loaded up and did taste tests with my kitties to see if they like anything besides Evo dry food. (They will eat a few other things but Evo is still the favorite. By the way, Evo told me that buying their food online VOIDS their satisfaction guarantee and they prefer you to buy from stores. The online seller had only a 30-guarantee--not much good when you are buying cans in bulk). You can also get up to three smallest-sized can samples free (as of now--hopefully this policy will continue as it definitely helped my kitties to branch out) of a flavor you have not tried before. Then if your cat turns out still not to like the big expensive (premium pet food IS expensive, no matter where you buy it) bag of food you bought, you can return that for a full refund too, not just any toys they reject. They donate these returns to local shelters--how cool is that? I think in West Seattle one recipient is Kitty Harbor, where one of my furry friends came from--a worthy cause indeed. Plus they are super nice, friendly, have free treats for visitors, etc. I thought this was just dogs, but once I came in with my cat after going to my nearby vet with him. HIs carrier actually fit on the bottom of the cart so I was able to push him around the store, and he got a treat too! I think they genuinely love pets and are interested in them, because we discussed my own rescue kitty with a tough childhood (rescued from a pet hoarder, emaciated and timid), one sales person's formerly abused pet and how she dumped a friend who had abandoned her cat when moving, and a lost dog (who was there at the store) that one of them had found and was fostering while home was sought. Please folks, support these great local pet food stores that really do care about the quality of their products and the health of your pets.
