I've been coming here on and off for a few months and today I had an extremely unpleasant experience. I stopped by for less than 5 minutes with two kiddos with me--as I was paying, one of the kids that was with me touched a dog leash and dropped it. The person assisting me went in the back and so rudely talked to the kid asking "what is going on here?," picked up the collar and started saying again, rudely, that "this is no play space." Until then, I understood, asked one kid who dropped it to apologize, and when she did, the store collaborator again, rudely, restated that "it was not a play space." Until then, it was fine, not everyone needs to be patient with other people's kids. But as we're getting out of the door, the store assistant runs after us saying rudely and loudly "HEY! DID YOU PAY FOR THAT TOY?"--mind you, it was the other kiddo's stuffed animal he brought in with him. What an amazing pet store! A little pricier but great to support a small business and quality products so it's definitely worth it. They do have competitive prices on bulk treats too. I was lucky that I went in when Drew Maus was there cutting dogs nails. He is there on Mondays from 12-3 and is so kind and caring. I've been to Pet Elements a few times. I'm not a pet owner, so I'm definitely not an expert, but this store seems ok. They are open during COVID-19 with a limit on the number of customers allowed in the store. This location isn't very big, but they do seem to have a lot of products packed on their shelves. I mostly get cat treats and bird suet here. They have many varieties of cat treats, but only one brand of suet (multiple flavors though). I found the prices to be quite reasonable and on par with ordering online. One time we had to flag someone down to help us, but another time an employee approached us, so I guess it just depends. Love this place. They have everything you need to both pamper your fur-child and provide them with great food if they have any sort of dietary issue. Staff is super friendly and have stayed open late for me a couple of times as I have raced there after work. They have special ordered a specific food for us and saved us money multiple times suggesting a great alternative when a manufacturer stopped making a certain food. Pet Elements is a gem of a pet store in West Seattle. They have a very extensive selection of cat and dog food, a great deal of which can't be found at places like Mud Bay or petsmart. They also have probably the best selection of raw diets in Seattle for those who feed raw. The staff is very knowledgeable about all their products and really want to help you find the right thing for your pet. Their leashes and collars are so dang cute it makes me wish I had a dog just so I could justify buying them. They even have a dog collar with unicorns on it! They have a great variety of CBD products and freeze-dried cat treats; I especially like the freeze dried minnows and chicken hearts for my cat. Oh, and don't expect "boutique pricing"; their food is very reasonably and possibly even a bit underpriced in the Seattle market. read more

I'm forever indebted to Pet Elements! They have been so kind and so helpful! When my Great Dane, Aslan was a puppy with terrible diarrhea that kept me up all night, every night, they told me that it would get better. They helped me to find the right food, and they loved on my pup. Then when he died suddenly in front of me at six years old, while running on the beach, they comforted my sadness, and wrote a heartfelt, sweet card with everybody's long, kind comments. Now I have my next boy, Tiger, and when he was a new pup, they helped teach me how to calm is nervousness while visiting the store. He loves Pet Elements, as did Aslan! And as do I. read more

I've been looking around town for a specific red dingo dog collar reflective lime green 15mm collar that the other Seattle pet local pet stores did not carry. I called Pet Elements and they pulled it aside and had it ready for pick up. The call was very easy and the price was $10 compared to other local stores that had it priced from $15-20. I was shocked at how cheap it was. Since I don't live in the West Seattle area, I had a friend pick it up for me the next day. It was an easy transaction and I wish I lived near Pet Elements, it seems to be a great pet store with reasonable prices. This place needs a good kick in the seat of the pants for their rude and condescending behavior toward my wife. We experienced horrible customer service from several people in this store about a year ago and I can just now sit down and write a review. The story: My wife purchased a chew toy (a giraffe) for our little destroy-everything Boston Terrier that the clerk assured was Boston Terrier-proof. (For anyone who does not know, a Boston can chew its way out of a locked trunk. So toy purchases are made with the utmost care.) Of course, after being presented with the new toy, our little monster ran away with it to tear its head off in private. Hmmm, indestructible, eh? I think not. So, back it goes to Pet Elements. Unfortunately, more than 30 days after the purchase date. Not, by many days, mind you. Just a few. Hey, we are busy people and could not just run down for an exchange. A return? An exchange? Store credit? NO! How about even a slight apology for selling us a Boston Terrier-proof toy when it clearly wasn't up to the task? NO, again. What my wife received instead was scorn and ridicule for letting our cute little bundle of joy play with the toy outside of her eyesight. It was pretty much: hey lady, you let your dog play with the toy, it's your fault that she bit the head off. These, of course, were the people who said this toy brand was up to the task. Honestly, the only toy this little monster has not destroyed is a metal chain and concrete block. But as a business, you should not over promise and then not back up your promise when you miss the mark. And don't be rude to your customers. Those customers then become EX-customers who do not hesitate to recommend your competition down the road. We very much want to support local and independent businesses in West Seattle, but experiences such as this make this difficult. Hopefully Pet Element will go out of business and someone will move into the space that offers better service. read more

Just had the most bazaar and unsatisfying experience while returning a can of wet dog food, which is strange because we shop here regularly and have never had a bad experience. We'd purchased a particular type of canned food here last week and the pull-tab had come off without the can opening. Subsequent attempts with a can opener were also unsuccessful. The store manager acknowledged that that company is known for having this happen with its wet food and told me that she would accept the return this one time and that any future problems would have to be made to the manufacturer. I was kind of dumbstruck: 1) she knows that there's a problem with the cans but continues to sell to store customers. ... If you know there's a problem with the quality from this manufacturer then why would you continue to stock it AND THEN tell the customer that it's their problem to fix. 2) it states explicitly on the receipt 'We guarantee your pet will love their food and treats. If not, we will exchange it for another flavor or store credit.' ... What happens if your pet doesn't get to try the food or treat in the first place because the store sells you a defective product?! 3) If you take a product back to Home Depot they don't tell you to take it up with the manufacturer. ... putting the onus on the customer to solve a problem that you acknowledge is persistent with one of your suppliers in the very same conversation that you discuss the problem with said customer is just beyond me. How does that work? At this point, I'd call the manufacturer, it would apologize and then tell me it would refund me the wholesale cost? How does the manufacturer know know what I paid at the pet store? I could tell them I paid $30 for the can. I just don't understand this place... read more

The neighborhood pet store personified. Helpful, friendly, and stocked with high quality merchandise and food. I went in recently looking for cat food, but not knowing what brand had typically been bought for the cats. I brought a handful of kibble with me in the hopes that they could identify it. They could not, but not before they opened several of the little sample bags that they have behind the counter in an attempt to do so, and finally gave me a recommendation for a food that shared similar qualities (i.e., I'd known it was a high-protein food so that the little fatties would, we'd hoped, not eat as much of it). That's service that I will reward (and have rewarded) with repeat business. And--huzzah--a small, independent store that ACCEPTS AMEX! Home run. read more

When I moved out of West Seattle I knew I was going to miss this store. The folks there are so friendly and willing to go out of their way to get just the right special line of pet products for their customers. They sold me a large pink leather spiked collar...and actually took it back when I didnt like it on my dog....of course I ended up getting something else in their store....its like a toystore/candystore for pet lovers. They also gave me a flower-pot collar for one of my pets when she was injured....I was looking for one, they didnt carry it, but she had a brand-new one at home that was unused and she brought it into the store, called me on the phone, and gave it to me...free of charge.... These folks are good at what they do. I still stop by there when I am near....to support small business in a world full of mega-stores. read more

I opened a Yelp Acct just to write about this business. Pet Elements has changed my and my pets lives. They research EVERYTHING so I don't have to. They hire staff members that are so knowledgeable. I have been shopping here for almost 5 years. I have 2 dogs & 2 cats. My cats used to struggle with obesity. I was feeding them really expensive Vet quality food. The staff took time to educate me on what to look for in labels. Both my cats dropped weight without having to be put on diet food, that was more expensive. They no longer struggle with weight and get to eat normal portions of regular food. Four years later, one of my cat had a different medical problem. The staff member that was working that day, has a cat with the same issue. She and all of the staff there, were able to educate me on which foods would support my cat's condition. The food is about the same price as the prescription food, yet doesn't have any corn, gluten or wheat for fillers. Again my cats are so happy. My dogs have done well on their recommendations of food, treats and toys. They can trouble shoot even tiny issues, like "my dogs destroy squeaky toys within 24 hours." They say, "Have you tried this brand?" and by George -- they are right! Or "my dog sinks", and they might say "Have you tried this natural shampoo?", and again it works. One of the owners, made a point of showing me the cost savings of buying my cat food in the larger cans. He made a point to show me how to save over $10 a month!!!!! Imagine, they want me to save $. They can even recommend a store for my friend that lives very far north and can't come to West Seattle often. That is above and beyond great customer service! I've been twice, and won't go back. The first time I went, a few years ago, the lady working was rude and not helpful. I was looking for a specific type of treat as we were working with our dog on barking less. Instead of helping me find the treats, she told me all about how I should put coins in a can and shake it at him to scare him so he wouldn't bark. Not my style of training, and unasked for input...I just wanted some treats... Then I went in looking for an identical harness to the one he already had that we got as a gift. The first lady I spoke with was snippy and quite rude. The second lady to stepped in was helpful, but after leaving I thought to myself that this was ridiculous. I shouldn't feel unwelcomed in a store when I'm trying to buy something. I will never go back. With so many other pet stores in West Seattle, I am surprised this place is still in business. I started going in here a week before I got my new puppy. I wanted to price out different food scenarios. There were two people working, and both were fabulous! The woman that helped me actually got her calculator out and helped me figure out the monthly budget for feeding my pup. She also recommended online coupons to reduce the cost. Now that's service! The next time I came in, with my pup, she wasn't working, but the two people that were gave my puppy loves and then helped me with an alternative to the food I bought previously since puppy thought it was ick and refused to eat it. They also helped me understand enzymes and seaweeds and all that other good stuff. In my last post I mentioned that once a dog came in without a leash, but since then they have posted a bigger sign on the door stating that leashed dogs are welcome and they have leashes to barrow in case you forgot yours. This is a good, convenient pet store in Morgan Junction. Like most neighborhood pet stores in Seattle, this place has lots of specialized foods and treats. I'm a cat person, and the quality of the food and treats that a place sells is a big selling point for me. That being said, like most places, it's divided half-cat/half-dog, maybe a bit heavier on dog... helpful staff, and usually always a good selection of food on hand. One of our cats is on a special-needs diet (low sodium) and the tags on the cat food racks indicate foods that are geared for that. Very helpful. Prices are competitive with other places (and I find often cheaper than Amazon for some items), so it's always a place I do my cat food/snack shopping. read more

They have the Evangers dog food and freeze dried liver treats my dog loves, plus a great selection of harnesses, collars, and dog sweaters, all in one spot just minutes from my house. Pet Elements is run by real animal lovers. They seem passionate about their jobs. It seems more like a home to them. I feel very at home when I am in there. I love knowing that when I shop for my dog at Pet Elements I am seeing high quality clothing, toys and whatever I may need for my dog and what seems to be tried and true products. The staff goes way out of their way to welcome their real customers, the pets. My dog is always treated to lots of new goodies. They also have samples of pet food for people who are trying to find just the right nourishment and taste for their pets. I find it very hard to go to West Seattle and not stop at Pet Elements. I was encouraged to see so many others who have great things to say about Pet Elements in West Seattle. I too have a super rave about them. I had been calling several pet stores in the area looking for a specific critical care formula for my guinea pig who will not eat on his own. After calling almost every place in west Seattle I could think of, I called Pet Elements. They didn't have it in stock initially, but mentioned that they had a supply run that same day and would call to see if the supplier had it in stock. They took my number and called me back to let me know they would pick up the item just for me and call me as soon as it got to their store. Sure enough, they called right when they said they would and within ten minutes, my husband was able to be back with the critical care for my sick little guy. I really love this pet store. They take pride in offering really quality treats and food for animals. I get my dog food from here. It is no more expensive than getting it at Mud Bay and they don't carry it at places like Pet Smart or PetCo. They staff is really friendly and I like the special perks that they do like giving free treats for animals when you make a purchase. I like that they are willing to carry new products and sometimes at a more reasonable price than chain stores. I espcially like that they provide flea treatment in individual doses so that you don't have to spend $60 at one time. You can pay maybe 10-15 dollars for a dose. The treats for dogs is especially great in quality and quantity. They carry these vanilla chew bones that my dogs just go crazy for. I also have a frequent buyer card for dog food so my 11th bag is free...They also have a $5 off coupon in the mailers which I make a point to look out for... read more
