Mud Bay pet store is small but packed with great selection of natural pet products that you won't really find at other large pet store chains. I started looking into cat food with natural ingredients because the vet told us we need to watch his weight. While these natural/organic food can be a bit more pricey, I read that it can keep your pet more full than processed cheap canned foods. I like Mud Bay because it provides me with more natural food selections to choose from with varying price ranges. Parking is a bit of a challenge as with any places on cap hill... I also come here to buy my cat some live wheat grass and he loves the bonito flake treat which they carry in different quantities. read more

Oh how I love Mud Bay. And oh how I love it is a block away from my apartment. It's right off Broadway at Thomas, if you have a hard time finding it. I swear this is the cheapest place to buy the Wellness brand, which is what I buy my puppies because that shoddy food just doesn't do it. When buying food at our beach home across the water, I went to a Petco and the manager there told me that "if you ever see a pet food advertised on TV, don't buy it." So since then I've been buying Wellness, and I noticed an immediate health improvement. Anyways, that was a tangent. I have a picky kitty who has had health problems in the past, some stemming from the awful grocery store food I used to feed her. I came to Mud Bay and found the perfect replacement that I was able to stealthily switch her on to. I feel good knowing that there are no grains in her food and she seems to enjoy it (she'd surely let me know if she wasn't loving it). Mud Bay is great. Friendly, patient, helpful - terrific & easy going staff. Wide range of all products from foods to toys to litter to treats - to care products, etc, etc. You get a little discount when you buy a dozen cans or more. Mud Bay takes back dry food(or unopened cans-duh) if your pet won't eat it. They have a three free can sample policy so you can find food your pet will eat. They have a little box of canned food set aside that's marked down in price a little because the cans have been dented. This location is much more spacious than the Pine store and seems to have more variety. There are reserved parking spots in back. Although I normally walk there, driving is necessary when I buy 25-40# bags of cat litter. read more

I'm trying to keep my furry little friend happy! But I do frequent this place and the late hours are super amazing. i i wish i could give them 10 stars. mud bay has always been good to me. they provide many great products that i can't find at the big box pet stores. and just now, 2 minutes before they close i remembered that i was supposed to get cat food. i called to ask if they could hold the door because i am only a few blocks from there. not only did they hold the door (i got there at 7:32) but the registers were closed so they gave me the food and just asked that i mention it the next time i come in so i can pay. how many businesses would do that? i am going there tomorrow to square up, and i am so grateful for the staff that were compassionate to a forgetful cat mom. mud bay, you have an awesome staff. i haven't been to the lacey location but i've had nothing but positive experiences in the olympia and tumwater stores. read more

I've been to three different Mud Bay locations (they're a Puget Sound area chain), but this is my regular branch and I've always had a great shopping experience there. The staff are very knowledgeable about natural pet foods, have all my cat's favorite toys and treats, and are amazing about returns. If something doesn't work out for you for any reason, they'll take it back. Once, when they were out of samples of a food I wanted to try with my cat, they told me to just buy a bag and bring it back if she didn't like it. Like other reviewers, I'm also very fond of the free treats at the register. I'm always on the lookout for things my cat will eat other than freeze-dried salmon treats. If you're looking for cheap food and highly scented litter, this is not the place for you. If you're concerned about making sure your cat isn't eating eating other dead cats and think having rice in cat food is ridiculous, you've come to the right place. read more

Mud Bay has always been great for my cat needs. Since I moved neighborhoods in July 2015, I've found myself no longer needing my petco rewards card. Although the selection of cat food can seem slim, the store can order cases for you or recommend a food with similar macros (how I got turned onto Fromm-- free sample bags roped me in) and they have an awesome return policy. I walked in on a hot day recently and not only was their fan BLASTING and providing pets and people with cool air, all of the employees jumped to help me when I asked for assistance. This is a stone's throw away from the boyfriend's digs, so this Mud Bay location is my "oh crap, I forgot to pack dog food" stop. This store is much smaller than the Ballard and Greenwood locations, so the selection of food, treats and toys isn't overwhelming, but you'll still be able to find great products for your pet. My most recent purchase from this store is gush worthy. I bought a 6 ft long jogging leash for my dog, which attaches around my waist leaving my arms free to flail about. I love it (and it was only 12 bucks)! The staff person was helpful in showing me my options and said if I wasn't happy with my purchase all I had to do was return it. Flexible return policy, friendly staff and the best jogging leash this new runner could ask for makes Mud Bay pretty great in my opinion. read more

I went in today to buy the evo herring based cat food that they have and I have been feeding my cat for years. They usually have it in small bags for 10 or 11 bucks and a big bag for 20 25 bucks. the distributor was out of the small bags they said. damn... I thought. so I picked out the big bag thinking well I won't have to buy cat food for a while. the very knowledgeable girl behind the register asked me how many cats I have. I said one. she said this food might go bad before she says it because it has no unnatural preservatives. she suggested a different bag of food that was in the price range of what I came in for took two dollars off the bag and threw in a probiodic powder to put on the cat food so that the transition would not tax my cats digestive system I left thinking.. this hippie is worried more about my cats health than I am ... and that is why I will go there every time! read more

This was my very first visit to a Mud Bay store. I came into this shop looking for some healthier food options for my 9 year old cat/son. He has been breaking out due to an allergy which I haven't quite been able to pinpoint (i know for sure he's allergic to fleas, but I can't find any on him). After chatting with Frannie for a few minutes she was able to help me not only better understand what my cat is going through. She also helped me out by getting some samples of hypo-allergenic and grain free foods for my kitty to try out and see if he likes them before committing to a certain brand. I was blown away, I did not think this kind of customer service was even possible! Frannie was so considerate and thoughtful, I had such a great experience and can't wait to return and get my baby some more great stuff here. Aside from the samples I picked up a new little knit toy for him and some catnip essential oil rejuvenator which has quickly lifted his spirits and distracted him from all the horrible itching. I love Mud Bay....but more so, my dog loves Mud Bay! Every time I need to stop by to grab something, I make sure to bring my dog along since it is only a few short blocks from home. He enjoys going there because it means we get to grab him some food or a fun new toy..however, I think his favorite part is that the friendly and helpful staff always give him a yummy treat (thank you!). The store has a great selection for its size and I always find what I am looking for. They have quite a lot offered in their small space, I appreciate the time they take to answer questions about dog food (all high quality brands). What a great store! I was expecting pretension & bleeding wallets solely based on this being a specialty pet shop, but I was pleasantly mistaken. Friendly (yes, friendly in Seattle) & knowledgeable service and the gal assisting me immediately offered samples. I thought, "That's nice, but my monsters inhale little samples," I was surprised to see her grab full size cans of product for them to try. Can I love a pet store this much? Is it even possible? I could go on and on about this place so a list should help. Selection: Small store, large selection and full of yummy healthy things. We buy here for our dog, cat, ferrets, and rats. Staff: The best I have encountered. They know my dog and love on her like I do. They have taken large amounts of time to help me make decisions on everything from treats to stress remedies. Location: Convenient for anyone on the hill! Parking: Street? I don't know, I walk it so my dog gets exercise too. Free Samples: At the counter for all different animals, and sometimes they sample out products from the shelves for you to just try also Purchased Products: Wellness Cat Food, wet and dry (They have these great gravy and meat packs that I can't find anywhere else!), The animals apothecary anxiety relief thing (thank you for totally glazing my normally anxious dog with all natural ingredients in a 7 hour car ride), Numerous and extensive dog treats (All of which were promptly enjoyed) We are here at least once a week and are now lifetime customers! read more

They towed my car even though I was a customer. I bought my kitty some food (she loves it, I'll give them that) about 15 minutes before closing. Since they were closing I figured my car would be okay in their lot for a few minutes while I went to the QFC just a little bit north to grab some groceries. Apparently not! $446 and a 50 minute bus ride later and I have my car back, but I'll never bring it here again. A word of caution: If you must shop here, walk or bus. Mud Bay is not a store, it's a community service. I've been visiting since I've moved to Seattle and they have been so awesome. They always come out and say hi and offer to help with or without my dogs. Doggies get treats and lots of love. I asked them for help with new dog food and they helped tremendously. I think it was obvious I would have paid anything but they didn't try to sell me on anything and even gave me some samples. We just adopted a new kitty (adult cat) yesterday, and stopped by Mud Bay on our way over to check out their food selection. We had gone to PetCo earlier that day to get a cat carrier--turned out to be "Cesar Milan's" brand, which was $40 (cheapest for a decent double-door carrier)--but then found a fantastic one at Mud Bay for $28 ("Aran 1" double-door carrier)... we bought that one and returned the other one to PetCo promptly! The staff was also VERY helpful in explaining the science of cat food to us, and she gave us 4 samples of dry food and 3 free cans of wet food to take home with us. She helped us pick out a nail clipper as well (explaining exactly how to use it, to not injure the cat), and noted that everything is returnable, just in case something didn't work out. Kitty is still not up to eating yet--transitions are hard for cats!--but we're very glad to have a wide variety of options available, at no cost to us. This particular Mud Bay isn't the closest one to our house, but we'll definitely be frequenting whichever branches are nearby when we're running errands. read more

Hi Mud Bay! We are writing to share our positive feedback about your employee Cody at Grant Park Village. My sister and I regularly shop at Mud Bay, and Cody is always there to help us with any questions when we shop. We are very particular on what we can feed our 2 small yorkies. One of our yorkies has a serious allergy to fish and fish oil. She is allergic to other things as well, so when we came in to find the perfect food for her, Cody was there to help. He would go to a product he thought might be a fit for our situation, and start reading all the ingredients on the package. He would hand the package to us to read and if we saw anything we thought could cause an allergy, we would move onto the next brand. We must have gone through 20 brands before we found the Avoderm Turkey dinner. This one looked like a good fit, and we were eager to try it. When we arrived home to feed our dogs, they were going nuts for the smell of the new dog food. Avoderm Turkey dinner was a huge hit, and compatible with both of our yorkies. This was a great success on the first try. Cody's intuition and knowledge is above and beyond the norm. Cody goes the extra mile every time we come in. He's kind, caring, and passionate about his job. What a valuable employee you have. He's a real gem. We made another trip to Mud Bay when our mother moved in with us and brought three new family members 2 jack Russels and a Bangle cat. We asked Cody to help us pick out the most affordable cat food. We were looking for the most bang for our buck, because we were on a budget. We went throughout the store in the cat section and picked out the cheapest litter box, cat litter, cat harness, and cat leash, as well as the cat food. He found us everything in the store for the best prices! He carried all of the stuff up to the counter including the 40 pound cat liter. He was really going the extra mile on this one. We asked him to help us pick out the most affordable dog bed, for there was a shortage of soft pet furniture in our house with the new additions, and the dogs were all sharing 1 dog bed. We found a $45 foam pet bed that was a square. It was big enough for 2 Jack Russels and a yorkie. It worked beautifully. Cody rung us up, and when we asked about the dog chewies, he asked for what dog breed, and how old. We told him the Jacks that are older and he said they were out of the perfect chew that is easy to digest and that it would be in tomorrow. We said we'd be back for the economy bag when they came in. Our shopping experience has been so positive at Mud Bay with Cody's eager beaver attitude and vast knowledge that we look forward to shopping at Mud Bay. Mud Bay has the best prices in town and will match New Seasons pet products prices if they carry any of the same product. We love your store and we love Cody. I used to live two blocks from Mudbay on Capitol Hill so it was very convenient for me. I love their selection of natural products for my cat. In comparison to other pet stores that offer these types of natural products, they are slightly cheaper (PetCo offers natural products at a slightly higher price and Denny's Pet Store by my new house is much more expensive for same products). If you buy food in bulk, you get a discount as well. The staff is super super knowledgable, friendly and helpful. It is also fun to stop in and see other animals visiting the shop. They always have little samples of different treats and seem willing to give you other unsure of what to get for your pet. I believe they also allow you to return products if they are not working out. I think it is the best store for your pet needs. read more
