The staff at Mudbay is outstanding. They really show passion, empathy, and good will simply for the love of animals. They give so much useful info regarding diets, sensitivities, allergies, grooming, toys and general personalized info for pets. Mud Bay is a fantastic pet store! So much variety and local products. Mo and I picked up a few things for Taotao while we were in Seattle and she will be a very happy floof! Goods: 3 pack of 3 inch braided bully sticks (I was tempted to get multiple of these packs because they are hard to get in this size locally for us and we've been trying to move away from purchasing from big businesses) Bison bites with super greens (Less than 6 Ingredients!) And some other freeze dried raw treats from a local Washington company. Service was really kind and the store itself is maintained very very well! I had a terrific shopping experience here. I'm a first time dog owner and was on the hunt for essentials for my pup, but was extremely overwhelmed by the plethora of options they had. One of the employees went out of her way to educate me on the basics and gave me a very personalized shopping experience. Prices were fair and a little pricy, but this was expected for a small business. They do offer coupons though so it does help if you're on a budget. I really love that they keep a record of my shopping history so that it makes returns or exchanges easy via my phone number. Mud Bay is my absolute favorite to get my puppy treats! I love how convenient their store is located to where I live so it is quick and easy to get there. My puppy is quite the diva and so picky with treats and I love that you can return them here. If you sign up you can even return without a receipt which is very handy in case you're like me and get receipts and then lose it or think your puppy will like a treat and then doesn't and you've tossed the receipt lol. This location also does a great job during the pandemic with allowing a certain amount of people in the store and santiziation before entering. I was visiting Seattle from out of state and was excited to find a Mud Bay store since I work in the pet industry for work. I had never been to a Mud Bay before but have always heard about them. This was my first experience in one and I loved it! James made my experience amazing with a first time greeting card, two samples for my cat and dog at home and was able to answer all my questions. My cat is typically SUPER picky about treats, so I was skeptical that I'd find something he'd actually like. I picked out some posh-sounding freeze-dried rabbit treats, and asked the girl at the counter why some cats like mine tend to prefer the cheap-o IAMS treats - she explained those have lots of salt and sugar, so they're like Cheetos for cats. She couldn't guarantee that he'd like these "gourmet" treats but at least they were a lot healthier. Got home and offered my cat a couple and they were an immediate hit! Good job, Mud Bay. read more

I really appreciated this store and the employees. A little backstory: my cat has been having problems with stress vomiting for the past couple of days since I've come back from a family emergency where I was gone for almost a week. She has separation anxiety. Nelly and Alex were SO helpful.(I believe those were their names... I'm terrible with names so if I got it wrong my bad) They gave me really great tips about the type of food and maybe changes to my household environment to help relieve stress. They took their time with explaining and going through options; felt like they genuinely cared. Mudd Bay is the ideal shopping experience where quality and care intersect. I have been to this store about 5 times for various food, treat, or other pet needs and each time I am greeted by warm, friendly, and knowledgable staff upon entering the establishment. This last visit I was asked 5 times within the span of 2 minutes if I was "finding everything ok/needed any help" (keep in mind this was from 5 different staff who were working. I started to question myself, if I really did need help! But..bottom line...the entire staff cares and is there to help you find what you need and answer any questions. Our first visit there we were greeted with a discount coupon for our next visit, plus free samples of similar products we were looking for. They also will take back anything if your pet does not like or you are unsatisfied. Talk about putting your customers first!! Their selection is wonderful and prices competitive. So nice I have to say it twice! I am really just totally wowed every time I go into Mud Bay with how extremely helpful and knowledgable the staff is. Every time I go in there, every person working at some point in my visit asks me if I need any questions answered and help finding anything. My first instinct is to say no, but I find giving it a moment, I don't need to make all these pet choices my self! So whether it be trying a new litter or diet food for my overweight foster cat, Mud Bay is there to guide me in the right direction. Hooray for a new bigger and better Mud Bay! SO MUCH SPACE! Im no longer accidentally dry humping other customers like I was in their previous, super tiny Capitol Hill locale... But, beyond being spacious this place is great. Awesome food, toy, and treat selections. My dog is on a fairly limited diet -- so when I came here searching for low protein senior diets they gave me plenty of samples to test out on my pooch! It turned out they don't even actually sell the kind he liked, not even on special order -- so when they figured out that sad news they just loaded up my re-usable grocery bag with all the samples of said dog food for free! So nice. I've since found another dog food option that Helo likes... so while it was mildly disappointing at first I appreciate the effort they went through to find out for me, and the weeks worth of free food I got. New Mud Bay! I brought my dog to the new Broadway location and it looks marvelous! I have a sneaky pooch so he managed to score treats for tricks from both people working there that day! We bought two flavors of dog food, a bag of greenies and a couple of knees (or whatever body part that is) to chew on next weekend. Came in with my boyfriend after an awful 92° day, complete with constant bickering at one another over our brand new baby kitten. Mud Bay was our last stop of the long ass day, and after fighting traffic and each other, we finally got there to buy some kitten essentials, as we'd just picked up our new baby the night before. After quietly arguing about which size litter box was needed, price vs. quality of litter options, and presumptions of which one of us would fail the litter box routine and end up culturing a superbug virus from stagnant kitten poos....we finally made it up to the register with both our heads still attached. The guy who rung us up(I wish I could remember his name!), changed the whole day for us. He gave us some quick tips on kitten care and a free little goodie bag with coupons since it was our first trip for our new little one. He had tons of Star Wars patches on his vest, which was incorporated into conversation, but that aside, this guy just totally changed our day and put it back on track with his helpful pet tips, kindness, fun conversation and overall just stellar customer service. They have a great location right on Broadway with a good selection. I really like knowing that regardless of what product I get here, I know I'm getting something good. This is not a big box discount shop. The staff is always friendly and when I've been uncertain about new types of food to try or other such comparables they've proven quite knowledgeable and helpful. I've also had a case of picking up a bad batch of cat food (or my cat's stomach just gave up on it, haven't actually tried again), and they gave me a no hassle refund even without receipt. I will say though that, while their cat toy selection is really good, I have gone in just looking for something I can pull around while sitting on the floor near my cat and was surprised to find a gap in their collection. I absolutely love this place. My partner and I brought our bichon frise in after having oral surgery and was looking to buy post-op wet food for a week or two. Cat was the person who helped us in our time of need, and she was extremely patient, informative, and kind to us in helping us pick out food for our dog Baxter. She even gave us 3 sampler cans so we could see which brand/flavors worked out the best for our poor recuperating puppy.. SOOO nice. I was about to cry after being overwhelmed with emotion from my puppy having surgery and then having such a kind-hearted individual aid us in our time of need. Apologies if I'm being a little dramatic but I love my dog!! Anyways, we found the perfect brand for our puppy and we went back a week later and bought a 15 pack of wet dog food at a great price. If over 12 cans, they offer 5% off! We also told them about how our dog has dry skin issues so they gave us a sampler of Ultra oil to supplement the food to help with this issue. This new location is HUGE. It's the biggest Mud Bay I've been to. The parking lot is free for Mud Bay shoppers and is huge and easy to get to. I like Mud Bay. Their employees are helpful and nice. Their products are quality and unique. They also stock local artisan pet toys, and my boyfriend has purchased a lot of cute and unique cat toys that his cats sometimes play with. First: stuff is expensive here. It's a boutique pet store, you go in with that expectation. This isn't a complaint so much as a heads up. The staff here is really friendly and knowledgeable. Every time I've brought my dog here, they've greeted him with a treat. When my dog broke one of the ceramic dishes (which are at dog head height) they just laughed it off, apparently they've had much worse. If you need an unusual sort of food and treats for your pet, you can probably find it here. It's pricey, but if your pet has allergies you're probably used to paying a premium for allergen-free foods. read more

Having heard fantastic things about Mud Bay, I was a bit disappointed with this location. The staff can be a hit or miss - there are 3 or 4 people who work during the week that are fantastic, super helpful without me having to ask, always cheerful, and very kind to my recent rescue dog. There are also a couple that are aloof, impatient with my slightly-anxious dog, and give off a slight attitude when I ask for help. Also, when I brought in my rescue dog for the first time, I wasn't aware that they gave out free kibble samples and I wasn't offered any. I had to come back and ask for free samples, and got a less-than-enthusiastic "yeahhh I could do that"; I'd only had my dog for a few days and was trying to figure out her diet, and didn't get much assistance except in the form of a few flyers. That being said, there are definitely some staff here that are proactive, knowledgeable, and genuinely seem like they enjoy working at Mud Bay and make you enjoy being there as well. I do really appreciate that we can return things if our pets show no interest; that helps the wallet a lot. Their hours are also great for people who work late during the week. read more

The employees here are great. One woman helped me find a harness that would fit my rapidly growing puppy for a few months, and helped me adjust it when I was doing it wrong. She even happily swapped it out for another color after she had already cut the tags off. She explained every possible treat and chew toy option, and which ones would be best now and as puppy gets bigger. And she told me a couple times that if I ended up unsure about anything I bought I could return it, even if it had been used. Their return policy is great, apparently (although I loved everything I bought, so I didn't test this out). And this location has parking! On Broadway! The selection is impressive. My dog loves visiting the store because the employees are so friendly and pay her a lot of attention. We go often because she's made friends at this location. This Mudbay is AMAZING!! My sweet old poodle, Susan, suddenly becomes a 1 year old puppy desperately pulling on her leash toward this store whenever we are within a block of it. Everyone gives her so much love and SO many treats here--especially Sabrina, a.ka. "the treat lady," who also helped me find perfect a low-cal senior diet for Susan when I first adopted her as my first pup almost a year ago. Sabrina has proved again and again to know her dang stuff and be one of the kindest, most compassionate people I know. I love everyone who works at Mudbay; the whole staff and warm environment just for a second makes downtown Seattle/Capitol Hill feel like a small neighborhood where everyone knows each others' names (and cares about pedestrian safety lol). As for the prices, some items are priced a bit higher than other retailers, but that's mostly the high-end cat water fountains or flamingo plush that literally could be an infants toy. For the basics like food, Kongs, and good harnesses, the prices aren't that much more expensive and they last a lot longer. If you can afford it, the few extra dollars is so worth it--also, there are definitely low-cost options (like Susan's NutriSource kibble, which I was shocked to hear Sabrina say was only $2 more than the corn-filled Purina I thought I might have to resort to). In my experience, the staff genuinely respects your price-range and will work with it instead of trying to sell you on things out of your budget or that aren't necessary for your type of dog. Plus, you always know that the food, treats, and toys are going to be made with clean, safe ingredients I have bought a few items that are on the pricey side from Mudbay, but it was so worth it every time--if not for the high quality, than for the ease of returning if something really expensive DOESN'T work. I'm in a wheelchair and only have full use of one hand, so daily dog tasks that are simple for some people like picking up poop, finding a harness that is easy to put on with one hand, and giving my dog baths require a lot of creative thinking, innovation, and trial and error (which costs $$$). The staff at Mudbay were really thoughtful and thorough in experimenting with me and finding the particular items that would make life easier for me and Susan (like a way to attach her leash to my seatbelt in a way that made it easy to clip it on and off)--and, when something ended up not working out, they let me return anything I needed to, be it some treats that Susan turned her nose up at or a pooper-scooper with disposable bags that ended up being too bulky for me to carry around on my chair all the time. Lastly, this is unrelated to the products but the Mudbay staff always has the BEST recommendations for groomers, dog parks, and other retailers to check if they don't carry something (OR if something is too expensive in their store, where you might be able to get a less pricey version). Josh helped me find a groomer not too far from where I live and did the best anyone living in Seattle can do to find one that is also reasonably priced--unfortunately, we have yet to find a groomer in Seattle that does not charge a million dollars, but that's Seattle, not Josh (hey Mudbay, consider opening a community-owned grooming facility???? would love you even more forever???). Mudbay's history is pretty darn cool, too, and I definitely see that their roots in sustainability, focus on quality over quantity and profit maximization, and emphasis on education and seems to shine like a beacon of sincerity and good deeds in these dark times for business ethics. Susan and I started our lives together at Mudbay and plan to stay!! The caring and knowledgable staff, high-quality brands, and generous return policy has made adopting my first dog so fun and low-stress. I love using mud bay. They have such a great selection of wet/dry foods for cats and dogs. But their staff is super knowledgeable about the products and are super helpful helping meet your needs. Mud Bay has helped us through many a crisis with our cats, starting when they were kittens. (Also they have great first time/new pet specials.) The staff is so knowledgeable about any and all products they carry and everybody I've interacted with goes out of their way to help you and provide information, not just about what they sell but pet needs and behavior in general. I've gotten so much invaluable free advice and free stuff at Mud Bay over the years (for example, they'll let your pet sample food for free -- they've sent me home with cans of food to try out), there's no way I'd ever shop anywhere else. Also, all products they carry are high quality and if something doesn't work for your pet (like the crinkly cat tunnel mine ignored for 2 weeks), you can return it for store credit.
