Gerbils from Denny's, exploring their new home
    Timothy K.

We've been customers of Denny's Pet World for decades (mostly for fish), but today's visit reminded me that I haven't given credit where it's due. Last year, our kids were given two gerbils who were around four years old, so when nature took its course (RIP Nibbles and Snugs), they were heartbroken. After holding a memorial service and cleaning out the cage, they looked up at me with hopeful eyes and a "Dad... do you think maybe...?" Yeah yeah, OK. There are lots of big box pet stores in the area, but I'm making the assumption that a smaller local shop likely treats their animals better and hopefully sources more ethically too. In any case, I'd rather shop local when I can and the prices are competitive. I called to see if they had any gerbils available and Aela let us know that they had some males in store. She said to ask for her when we came by. About an hour later, we dropped by and found Aela. She brought the gerbils out in their enclosure and was great not only with the animals, but my very excited children as well. She answered our questions and seemed to really enjoy her job, which makes it so much more fun for everyone involved. She took care of getting them in a box with some bedding and sent us off with smiles all around. I'm so thankful that Denny's is part of the neighborhood, and for great employees like Aela who make the experience fun.

Look who's excited for his trail mix!

Squirrel food heaven! Okay, I know - squirrel food, not really your typical pet food review. But I've been feeding squirrels for a long time (I lived in Ohio for almost 40 years ), and have tried a fair share of different foods for them. We were out getting our Christmas tree a couple of weeks ago, and happened to drive by Denny's Pet World. It just *looked* like the kind of place that would have some good options for supporting my (super cool) hobby, and boy it did not disappoint! Their own branded bag of "squirrel trail mix" that I bought is full of walnuts, cashews, and pistachios and frankly looks good enough for me to snack on (don't worry I won't!). And it was really well priced! So if you're a backyard wildlife enthusiast like me, this is definitely the spot! The store is HUGE and I also picked up a couple of great cat toys for my indoor kitties. I didn't have a chance to get around the whole store, but IMO it's definitely worth another trip out from Seattle just to check out what they've got, so I can't wait to go back.

I've been shopping at Dennys for 20 years, give or take. In that time, I have seen many employees come and go. They have all been friendly and helpful for the most part and to the best of their abilities. In that time, there have been 2 employees that really stood out when I think of great customer service. One was the old Aquatics manager who was there for a very long time but recently departed a few years ago. The other is Ben, who also works in the Aquatics department. Ben's customer service has always gone above and beyond. Ben is always friendly, patient, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. In my opinion, Ben is an essential part of Dennys Aquatics, and I've recommended many of my clients to go to Dennys and ask for him if they need any assistance with their aquariums.

My partner and I recently fostered a dog named Max through Regional Animal Services of King County,…read moreand unfortunately our experience ended in a way that has been extremely difficult and upsetting. We first encountered Max months earlier while showing a home to clients. He appeared severely underweight and in poor condition, so we contacted Regional Animal Services to request a wellness check. The owners ultimately surrendered him, and wanting to help, we later signed up to become foster volunteers so we could give him a chance to recover in a safe home. During the week Max lived with us, we experienced him as a very sweet and gentle dog. As he began to settle in, his personality really started to come out. He loved going on walks and would wiggle with excitement when he saw his leash. He also got along well with our resident dog and showed no signs of aggression in our home. When Max developed signs of an ear infection, we contacted the shelter and were asked to bring him in for a veterinary visit. Upon entering the shelter, Max clearly became nervous. And during that visit an incident occurred, and he was placed into quarantine. We were later informed that due to his decline while in quarantine, the decision was made to euthanize him. This outcome has been heartbreaking for us. We stepped forward to foster Max because we believed he deserved a chance to heal and eventually find a loving home. In the short time he was with us, he showed us a kind and affectionate personality that we will never forget. While we respect that shelters must sometimes make difficult decisions, the way this situation unfolded has left us feeling deeply saddened and frustrated. We wish there had been more communication and consideration of the dog we experienced in our home before things escalated to this outcome. Because of how this experience was handled, we have made the difficult decision that we will no longer volunteer or foster through this organization. Max deserved compassion, patience, and careful evaluation. We will always remember the sweet dog who came into our home and quickly became part of our daily lives. He deserved the opportunity to continue healing and experiencing the love he had just begun to find. See more of Max here:

Like many shelters in the area, we were required to fill out an application before being allowed a visit. Luckily, we passed the test. In fact, we had a response within a 1/2 hour of sending our application, very late on a Thursday night I might add. By the next morning we had made an appointment for 11:30 that day. When we arrived at Caesars, I couldn't believe how much love the owner had for her rescue dogs, cute, funny looking, shy or not. We proceeded to check out the little black lab mix we had come to see. The Owner used this time to share everything she knew about the dog, where he came from, how she got him, all the shots he had gone through, etc. She had taken him to the vet, poor guy had kennel cough and not-so-great stool. She gave us every last detail in order for us to be fully informed new parents. They even did a home inspection to make sure what we said on our application was true. We have had a couple follow up questions a few days later and have received almost immediate replies to help us on our way. We were provided all the vet paperwork available. Our puppy already had his chip and was neutered, we received all the invoices with that information as well. You could tell she had a definite passion for what she does and takes the greatest care in ensuring the animals are nursed back to health if needed, provided a loving and attentive environment and placed in good homes.
