Kona was flat and as a bartender myself I would never give a guest a beer with no head at all, seeing there was something wrong with the keg or keg lines. Taquitos were obviously frozen but I expected that, and honestly weren't bad. The chef was great. When I asked how many came in an order for $11 she said 7-8 but we got 5. Again, not a big deal I'm not trippin over $11. But overall really bad service and shitty attitude If you're looking for a relaxing, welcoming time, as we usually look for in a bar, I wouldn't choose this place. The night manager is so unapproachable, my fish was still frozen/ cold . I tried to get her attention but she just cold shouldered me, so I asked if I could speak with her and she was not so pleasant. Not the first time either . I've been spending time over the past few days really reading tons of reviews and the ones I enjoy the most tell me a story. So I'm going to tell folks about Mr. Smiths. My family has been coming to Mr. Smiths since 1973. When I was little, my brother who is 15 yrs older was a stock car driver. The Medford speedway used to be right in Medford up the street and the man who created Mr. Smiths is Dane Smith. Dane is a well known successful driver and obviously a good businessman since this business is still thriving. He and many of the drivers all went to Mr Smiths after every race. I would get to go with my brother to all his races. I was 11 at the time and back then it wasn't so scary to be at a venue on your own- and most of the regulars knew all the families - anyway- They used to make a Rueben sandwich that was just so delicious- I couldn't go in the bar, but I'd wait at home patiently for my brother to get home and bring me this amazing Rueben. The best part though was getting the potato salad. This potato salad for anyone who likes the sourness of dill pickles will love this recipe. My brothers wife even worked there and she was sworn to secrecy on how to make this salad. So, fast forward- I moved to Portland right after high school and was in PDX for 21 years. I moved before I turned 21 and still had never got to go in the bar. So over those years I used to beg my friends and family to go get me Mr smiths potato salad by the gallon and bring it to Portland. And they did! What I have learned over the years is that the potatoes aren't boiled- they are baked- and then the potato is grated- it's got green onions, eggs finely chopped, mayo- and there's got to be pickle juice in it to make it tart. Some have commented that it's on the saltier side, (which is the pickle juice I'm convinced), but it's just so good with a juicy burger and a pint of beer- it's like salty peanuts and beer, they just go together. So now that I live back in the valley, I get to go whenever I like and have my favorite potato salad. The bacon cheeseburger is my favorite with extra dill pickle slices- it's a good seasoned grill and the meat gets a nice char on it but still real juicy. I wish they still had the original Reuben of my childhood memory but they've got decent bar food. I would give them five stars just because of my years loving it- but there are times that all the regulars kinda monopolize the servers time and I go up to the bar and order myself. Once orders are in everything is always smooth from there- beverages refilled, checking in etc. the bar itself is a sports bar with tons of games on all around. There's still one pool table, there used to be more, but the video poker machines took over one part years ago. The people are always friendly- both employees and the folks that frequent the place daily. It's a great local bar with good bar food and also good pricing on beer. I brought home a quart of potato salad on my visit for lunch yesterday and my family scarfed it down- maybe I shouldn't have told them?! lol read more

Wow. If only I could rate them a negative star! I'll try not to let anger get the best of me in this review, but let me just say, when it comes to taking care of their customers, this place blows. Last night my friend and I spent close to 3 hours in the dingy atmosphere. The bartender was no where to be found most of the time-- she was either outside smoking or well, who knows-- and the bar was practically empty. Maybe a person or two at the bar, but this place is not the "place" to be. Oh, and the bathroom door locks are broken, so don't expect any sort of privacy if there does happen to be any form of life when/if you visit this place (although I advise against it). The waitress also snatched our beers away before we could finish them, making the beer intake low, and the tab high. Now, let me get to the BEST part-- after leaving, I didn't feel comfortable enough to drive, so I had a friend come pick me up. Yay for not drinking and driving! Today, I went to pick up my car, happy that I hadn't driven last night, to find it GONE. Yep, Mr. Smith's had my car TOWED, without even a courtesy call. REALLY? ...I mean, REALLY? ...REALLY? Alright, so, there's more to the story. They re-paved their parking lot. Yep, all new pavement surrounded by "caution" tape. Cool. YOU COULDN'T PUT UP A SIGN?! Or let people know?! Or why are you even paving your parking lot on a Sunday morning? Obviously there's a good chance that some people will be responsible and leave their cars overnight... after all, it is a BAR. Anyway, I'm sure this would piss anyone off- and while I can't comment on their food, I most certainly will never spend a penny there again. In fact, I'll try my hardest to let every person I know not to either (not that they need help keeping people away). Wow. Just. Wow. What a joke! read more

Mr. Smith's is a typical bar/sports bar with a "locals" feel to it. They have a basic bar menu, burgers, sandwiches, fried appetizers, etc. The food comes out hot and tastes good. It isn't gourmet but it is tasty. Drinks are good and not overpriced. If you are looking for a easy burger/bar dinner or a couple drinks Mr. Smith's will fit the bill. The lady answering the phone said can you hold a minute and set the phone down. 15 minutes on hold and yelling hello got no results. Pretty clear she didn't want to take the order. "Biggest burger in town" and "World famous potato salad" are the two lines on the exterior of the building that drew us in. Well, that and the kid was with his friends so we were finally able to venture into a 21+ establishment. I was not immediately impressed with the decor or the service. The overall attitude of the bartender was annoyance at having to come out from around the bar. And the server (and cook) could be likened more to a worker in a gentleman's club than this joint. Who exposes that much cleavage in front of a broiler? I ordered the cheesesticks with both ranch and marinara. I'm sorry--but I need both to enjoy the awesomeness that is fried cheese. Unfortunately, it wasn't until the cook brought them out that we learned they were out. Nice. The burgers were just ok. Large, yes, but only because the beef patty was super thin and super wide. It wasn't hand formed, and it wasn't that good. They did provide nearly a whole onion though. That was nice. The potato salad was JUST like the sutff my mom makes. Complete with hardboiled eggs. Kind of bland, but definately homemade. I doubt I will return. The food wasn't good enough to warrant it, and the service was too poor to entice another chance. read more

Enjoyed watching Super Bowl Sunday here very much! Not only was it a nice mix of fans, but the $2.25 tacos were over the top good! Great service, clean bathrooms and lots of TV's with a nice local feel. Walking distance from my motel makes this a winner. Won like four of the raffle prizes too! This place looks super divey from the outside looking in, but once inside I was impressed with all of the open seating and the very inviting down home sports pub feel. This place is an Oregon Ducks bar, so if you're a Beaver get the f**k out! I heard the burgers here were really good so I tried a double cheeseburger (I was hungry) with tots and a beer. Delicious burger!
