If you're hot to trot and expecting lightning-fast, cookie-cutter service, there's probably a McDonald's nearby. But if you're a weary traveler who appreciates great diner food and the kind of hospitality that's getting harder to find, Diner 62 is a home run. We wandered in after finding out one of our old favorites had closed and what a happy accident that turned out to be. They were pumping cold air like someone else was paying the electric bill and had the place decked out in red, white, and blue for the holiday. Huge menu, generous portions, everything was delicious!! and for the love of all things fried, order the fry sauce. Our waiter was fantastic and we had the pleasure of chatting with another waitress whose mom, Margaret Church, grew up in Coos Bay. I'm headed there with a pyrotechnics crew for the July 3rd and 4th fireworks shows and I'm posting a photo of a shell with her mom's name on it. I hope she sees this review! It'll light up the sky in honor of my dad, her mom, and my best friend's grandma. Good food fills your belly. Good people stick with you. Diner 62 gave us both. We'll be back. read more

The eggs benedit were good with ham rather than Canadian bacon though the sauce was bland. The english muffin was very thin--as seems to be the case with most mass-produced english muffins now. There was a list of included items, one of which came with the dish. I chose wheat toast; it tasted very over processed. (We have been buying locally based bread for so long that we forgot how bad some mass produced bread is. The server added $4 to the bill for the toast. She said that since an english muffin was a choice given then the toast was extra. I said eggs benedit must have the muffin; the muffin wasn't extra. She depicted the $4 from my bill. read more

First time here. It is a pretty classic diner with a clear set of regulars for clients. In addition to the normal offerings they give you an option of potato cakes instead of hashbrowns or homefries. They were pretty good. Friendly and efficient service. Coffee is standard diner fare, weak to my tastes but clearly what appeals to many. read more

I love breakfast for lunch and this place did not disappoint! The peppers onions ham and onions were grilled just to the point of perfect in this omlette. Only complaint was the gas was a bit too oiled down. But crispy!!!! still good! read more

I have the senior 2 egg omelette, nothing to brag about. My Husband had the chicken fried steak, nothing to brag about. Just meh. I needed to use the restroom.... If I had of used the restroom before I ordered we would not have stayed. It smelled like sewer back there, it was not clean. Older place so they just don't seem to care about sanitation. To me the restroom is the same as the kitchen. Dirty restrooms, dirty kitchen. We won't be eating there again. Service was acceptable, just nothing special about this place. The food was really good with large servings. The service was friendly and on top of things. Our order came up quickly. Our drinks arrived right away and everything was clean and the ambiance was a really nice diner experience. Warm and cozy in a booth by the window. Pretty low key on noise which was wonderful. This place does not get enough credit. This is good ole fashioned comfort food. Portions are huge and prices are within reason. The staff is always friendly, usually get happy banter at the counter. Excellent food, always hot & fresh. Outstanding service & friendly servers. I've never had a bad meal here. Even when they're full, service is quick & food is as well. I've also never had errors with my orders. When I order to-go, they consistently remember the napkins & utensils. If I request Tapatio hot sauce w/ a to go order they're happy to put it in a small container. Excellent breakfast & lunch as well. You can count on whichever you're in the mood for, it will be delicious. Good sized servings, quality ingredients. None of that paper thin bacon here. Their biscuits & gravy are sooo good! I've been here many times over the years. I have no idea how they only have 3.6 stars. Small, locally owned, clean, home style, comfortable place where you feel welcome. Food was ok. Took the car in to be serviced. Guys at the shop said the place has good food. Got an omelette with bacon, cheese and veggies. Veggies were not cooked through. Omelette was big. Also got potato pancakes. Inside of it was kind of like mash potatoes with scallions. Wife got basic scrambled eggs and bacon. Cook burnt eggs and they remade them. Bacon way too salty. Hash browns were burnt on the outside, watery inside. Homefries are prepackaged or reheated crap on the griddle. Chicken fried steak is barely edible. Another "I don't get it" moment. I even had a coworker say this place was awesome, but I'm struggling to see it. Parked up front, walked in, immediately seated in a Booth. Glancing around most tables are full. We're both given water and menus and offered additional drinks. Iced tea ($2.50, and I think no refills; was never offered one) and just water, as usual. I've posted photos of what we ordered. The Ham in the Ham and Cheddar omlet was a chopped slice off a cheap hunk used in the grocery deli. Kinda rubbery, and not really meaty. Sourdough toast was good. Maybe I should have ordered the pancakes that my coworker raved about. Neither one of us was impressed with this encounter. We likely won't be back. read more

My wife and I had been driving past this place when going to and returning from the VA Center & Clinics. This time we stopped at the "Diner 62" about 3pm, Tue, 2/9/16. 1. The exterior seemed to be newly painted, nice colors, ... plenty of convenient parking close to the Diner, ... the area was clean, neat, and absent of any trash. 2. We entered, went down a short hall before getting to actual Diner (I believe that entrance is in acknowledgment of some of our weather and serves as a welcome for all customers). Stepping into the Diner was like entering a home, everything was warm, bright, clean, colorful and cozy. 3. Service was quick and friendly, not rushed, ... the menu's were clean, had a good selection and reasonable pricing for all three meals, plus a separate Seniors Menu, beverages and sides, followed by very good tasting hot coffee. 4. My wife had a BLT with fries while I had a bowl of chili, cheese, and onions. All came to us quickly, nicely presented, and tasted fine. My wife's french fries had been rolled in some unknown product which added a nice, not overpowering, taste to the fries. The Diner 62 also had a nice selection of pies, and we took home two slices of coconut pie ... which we later found to be excellent tasting and fresh. 5. While having a chat with a friendly out-of-town couple seated across from us, followed by picture taking, a brief look over the rest of the Diner, it's wall hanging's, and my look-see at the men's rest room, we left with a feeling of having found a wonderful restaurant, congenial company, excellent service and an enjoyable time. Their clam chowder is the best we have ever had, and we've had it on Pier 39, Fort Bragg and Coos Bay, as well as several other places. None can compare. Looking for a new place to take the kiddos for breakfast, we stumbled upon this place which had a full parking lot, generally a good sign for a restaurant. As it is out of town a bit I was happy to see farm looking trucks which means locals come here often... Certainly a bit dated inside, but not in disrepair or dirty. Bit small so I could see a wait if you arrive at a peak time, but they are efficient so tables are turned pretty quick. The service is generally pretty good, and the wait staff is prototypical old school diner...a good thing to me, but if you're easily ruffled be forewarned they can be short if they are busy...not in a mean way, just not going to dote like The French Laundry. They have a great kid menu with a wide variety to satisfy even the most picky eater, and crayons are provided for games and art. My omelette was wonderfully cooked and the hash browns properly crispy. The star however is the massive pancakes! Must be a hint of malt or something but they are very tasty. Further, as this has been a restaurant for some time, the griddle has a wonderful season to it that imparts awesome flavor to the cakes. Bottom line, we will be back and this is in rotation for brekkie joints. read more
