I went to Jefferson's expecting that they could make a good Moscow Mule, due to them being a specialty cocktail and drinks sort of place. Unfortunately myself and most other dive bars can make a better Moscow mule. The drink tasted way too lemony and sour, they don't use mint and who knows if there was alcohol in it. read more

Came here for my boyfriend's birthday today and was really disappointed. Service was slow even though there were only 3 customers at the bar. Ordered a Charcuterie plate, it came with no cheese (1st listed ingredient on the menu). My boyfriend ordered nachos, they were cold. We told the server and they tried to correct the issues. They brought cheese and went to "heat" the nachos. They brought the nachos back with a hot pan, but they were still mostly cold (except for the underside that was touching the cast iron pan). We were offered another drink, after I paid and said we were just gonna leave, on the house. My whiskey sour tasted as though it was just egg whites with a bit of lemon. We used to come here years ago when it was good. We won't be back. The menus were sticky and our seats were dirty. read more

Service was super slow even though there were only a couple other customers. When our food arrived the charcuterie board was missing the cheese! Like how do you not remember to put cheese on a charcuterie board? The nachos were cold. When we said something, the staff had the nerve to act put out and argumentative that we complained. They nachos were "reheated" but as you can see in the photo, the cheese still wasn't even melted...And then they still charged us full price for the food! All of the bars and small breweries in the USA this was the finest little town bar with higher quality of most expansive selections of any bar in the world anywhere. The two bartenders were not just outstanding but truly knowledgeable and amazing people with fantastic enthusiasm about their craft. The four different Scotch whisky flights for $19 was a steal. The Red Haired Bar Tender lady was a Michelin Star eligible creator of new cocktail and made special blend called Flannel Shirts that tasted absolutely divine, and the main man who came out of his clocked out status to serve us 14 year old Scotch whisky was very happy just to introduce us all to new Scotch! Came in here late at night. The bartender told me I couldn't bring in my backpack because they've had issues before with people carrying machetes in their backpacks. Even though a guy came in with a huge knife on his belt, but that seemed to be ok. I told him I didn't feel comfortable leaving my backpack in the car even though it just had my laptop and he was more than welcome to look inside. I didn't see a sign or anything on the door saying I couldn't bring in my backpack. The bartender told me and my peer this is the one exception he'd make for us to bring our backpacks inside. Very fun vibe, excellent drinks. Our hostess/waitress was really nice and knowledgeable. She recommended the bitter sweet symphony and it was a delicious gin drink and the smoky old fashioned was . Food service was a bit staggered (our table was served their entrees in three different waves (and after prompting)). That being said my salad was large and delicious, as were the churro fries dipped in chocolate. Definitely a spot to visit, especially if you have flexibility with time. read more

Awesome spot! Great speakeasy vibes with decent seating options. Delicious and creative cocktails on the menu and decent food options (from what we could tell, large portions). Attentive and friendly service. Maybe some regulars at the bar taking up a lot of the attention from the bartender, but that's not unreasonable. My only cautions are 1) maybe a little bit spendy, 2) parking can be tricky, and 3) that area of town, especially after dark, can be sketchy. But, as long as you know what to expect, it's a good time! read more

Wow, what a difference the staffing makes *sadness* We were looking forward to trying out this place again since our last experience was so positive. Completely different staff, completely different experience. Ladies in seemed nice at first. Ordered 2 beverages and some food and everything seemed great! Long story short... our friends non-alcoholic beverage is not allowed inside. Sure no, problemo. We all sat outside to sip our delicious cocktails *expert level for sure* and waited for our food order. Soon after, we witnessed the dark haired bartender have some kind of verbal exchange with the group of ladies at the picnic table outside next to us; they seemed to be chillin' and minding their own business - middle aged professional looking. Not sure what happened, bartender said something about one of them having an open tab, ladies commented that they weren't in a hurry... dark haired bartender seemed to be pressuring them to leave? It was awkward to watch and definitely changed the mood of the space. I don't think it was a racist thing, but it seemed a little extra considering the circumstances. Then the dark haired bartender turned on us and told us that the outside beverage (iced coffee) is "not allowed on the premises". They were nearly done and she insisted he "vacate the premises" (picnic tables on the sidewalk). I asked her how far he needed to stand outside of the sidewalk area to avoid the issue since our food order would be coming soon. She seemed stuck on the idea, so he stood outside of the roped area 2' to the left on the sidewalk while we hurriedly finished our adult beverages *delicious by the way*, we cancelled our food order and went on to the next destination. The staff were really friendly, and took time and care to pack up my food well so that it would transport without spilling. This seams small, but for me it was huge! It's why I'm writing the review. After having hungrily stared down my friends order and devour the citrus chicken bowl several times in a row, this was my time to enjoy this wonderful dish. The citrus flavors are not as overwhelming as one would guess from the dish name: there was a slice of lemon on top of the dish and some of the sauce mixed in with the capers definitely had a citrusy taste but it could use more sauce or more citrus. I paired the dish with a lemonade to get more of a tang from the dinner's flavor profile, and the two went really well together. Wish there was an option on the menu to double the chicken; the dish was good but I'd need more with my meal to feel like it was a decent dinner, maybe I'll chase an appetizer with it next time. Several folks I know head to Jefferson Spirits after work or for an informal meeting and having a "hungrier vibe" portion option for this would be good. Maybe next time I'll inquire whether the chicken portion could be doubled, for extra protein. I want more of it - as in I could use a larger portion if it's a dinner entree, and in a sense that I look forward to ordering it again. read more

The only reason this is not a 2 star is because the drinks was good enough. We came here really hungry and right when they open. We got a couple of drinks from the Happy hour menu and it was really good. We also got their famous noodle and the fish tacos. If their staff is not ready, they shouldn't open at 4, because it took almost 45 minutes for our food to come out. The lady nearby came 30 minutes after us, literally got her food 5 minutes after us... After 45 minutes of waiting and being hangry, I was expecting the food to be amazing and it was not. The noodle was literally just chow mein in a Chinese takeout box.i can get that at panda express for a lot cheaper and faster as well. The fish tacos was dry and bland, there was not enough flavor and considering that it was not fried fish, it was dryyy. Service was ok, but I would not consider coming here for food. I love cocktails and saw some reviews of Jefferson Spirits sounded interesting. It is an older building with a lot of character. There is a beautiful bar area to sit or additional tables as you go to the back of the bar. There is also a back area with comfy chairs to relax with a drink. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with all of my questions. We ordered the deviled eggs (an interesting color) and dumplings. All were yummy. We enjoyed some of the classic drinks like the Jefferson Perfect but I fell in love with the Charlemagne & Beatrice cocktail with strawberry and cucumber and vodka. It was very refreshing. Stop by! It is a great place to relax with a great cocktail and conversation. I will definitely return for some other inspiration. read more

I've been coming to this bar since I moved to Medford it is a staple for the community. recently I went 2 different days and I felt noticeably stared at by the staff.. the first day I thought maybe it was just me having a bad day but I went a second time for a drink and again felt the female staff playing "mean girl" to me. I finally asked an employee "is there a problem or did I do something to you?" where the employee yelled over the bar " You are a fucking bitch!" I bit my tongue and asked for a manager before things escalated, I said to the woman who claimed was a manger what happen and she said "well were you acting like a bitch?" I could have bursted out crying at that point. but my friends walked me out before things got worse. my male friends rushed me out and accidentally brushed a woman who was noticeably talking about me to the workers which she began screaming at us to get the fuck out. I left, no hesitation, again just wanted to know why this unwarranted energy was coming from and if I could resolve it. I don't know in what case scenario would it be okay to for employees to do this to a regular customer. but I am now "86" from a bar and I still have no idea what I did. read more

The atmosphere is awesome, good music, potential for a kick ass bar. You look at the menu, prices implicate well made food and drinks. Hell yeah....off to a great start. The other wears a wrinkled, dirty dress she must have picked out of the laundry, when she rolled right outta bed and into work. Not only that, but she keeps picking at a bleeding scab on her leg, behind the bar, in between making customers drinks. I order from Gym Shorts, since I don't want a side of Hep C with my Lemon Drop....... Get lemon drop, boyfriend gets his margarita....easy drinks, hard to screw up.... But.....we have entered the The Twilight Zone when crossing into the threshold of Jefferson Spirits....cause our drinks taste HORRIBLE. I'm understanding. Maybe they are new at tending bar and making "hand crafted drinks...." I politely request new drinks, mine has waaaay too much sour mix, and the margarita tastes really off. Fast forward...the bartenders make our drinks a total of 3 times, we even went downstairs to see if a different bartender would be able to make it better. I finally asked the bartender to taste the drink.....the male bartender tasted the drinks, scrunched up his face, and said, "my god, what is that?! It tastes like cough syrup!" .......yeah....... The conclusion to this novel of a review is......Jefferson Spirits has a lot of potential....but right now, we will not return. When a bar is commanding high city prices, we expect high quality drinks and bartenders. If the bartenders do not know how to tend bar, teach them. Also encourage them to clean themselves up a bit. At least brush their hair and dress nicely. At $12-16 dollars a drink, we're expecting a damn good drink, not a combo of sour mix and sugar that's going to cause an ulcer. Terrible food. I went to have dinner at the bar by myself. The guy in the kitchen who brought me my food was more attentive than the bartender. My drink sat empty while a patron, while a few seats down, who was cussing up a storm, got served. One bartender completely ignored me until I asked for my check and the other one did the bare minimum. Food was ok, at best. Came here based on the yelp rating and wish we had gone to in n out nearby instead. Planned a nice date and got the tri tip with chimichurri and the hazelnut beet salad. The tri tip took quite a bit of sawing with the knife to get it into edible pieces. Perhaps we just got a tough cut but we aren't used to tri tip this chewy. We love green beans and purple potatoes however these flavors had a difficult time battling with the copious amount of salt. The chimichurri should have been a bright refreshing contrast to temper the salt however neither my boyfriend nor I could taste it. The beets were the best part of the salad however there weren't many pieces. Overall we left hungry and ended up going to Trader Joe's to pick up food to make for ourselves afterwards. We were also disappointed that the yelp check in mentioned in another review was no longer offered. Overall quite average food that left us a little disappointed for the price. Nice decor. read more
