Deviled Eggs appetizer and non-alcoholic Rosé
    Marty T.

I checked out this spot a couple of times since it opened in a cozy lower-level spot, and the flavor profile delivered every time. On a staple signature night out even that is Medford's Third Friday, I joined a couple of friends for wine and appetizers here, and I chose the nonalcoholic rosé, which was delicious, and I appreciated that they had that option. My friends really enjoyed the wine selection; the in-house seasoned popcorn, which I got to try, had an interesting cinnamon-forward flavor. The food came out very quickly, it was in fact the server behind the bar who recommended the rosé to me, and I can't wait to come back here for the deviled eggs with the candied bacon accents.

Quiet unassuming staircase leading to heaven. Take the stairs! Enter the warm inviting cozy space. Head to the bar to look over the menu and order. Do the soup flight. Do it. Three bowls of delicious well spiced and hot soups. My favorite was the curry. The pozole was delicious and the third I loved but cannot for the life of me remember the name. We also got the deviled eggs. My husband loved them so much we got the kit on the way out. He ate half of them for breakfast. He ordered the cabbage roll special. I cannot stress enough how this was *Not* the one your mom made. It was better- I said it. Soft cabbage wrapper, well seasoned filling sitting on top. Bed of the creamiest polenta this side of my grandmothers house. Food was delightful. Service was prompt and super informative. Beer and wine selection were amazing. Brave the stairs and tell your friends!

Soup Flight: Curry Carrot Clam Chowder Chili

Hidden gem in downtown Medford. Well curated. I have an affinity for good soup and it's hard to find consistency in Southern Oregon. While waiting for my French Dip I ordered the Soup Flight. The choice of a soup flight alone earns five stars. Curry Carrot Clam Chowder Chili Substantial portions for a flight, shared it with my companion. Stand by for French Dip update...

After our morning wedding ceremony, my husband and I had our lunch reception at the Beatrice. They were very accommodating by finding seating for 18 guests. Everyone's orders were correct and the staff was extremely friendly. The food and atmosphere was delicious and relaxing.

Incredible carrot, coconut & curry soup with a delicious panini. The perfect lunch!

Medford's best kept secret! The atmosphere is wonderful with a calming and cozy feel. The food far exceeded my expectations, as it was very fresh and flavorful! To top everything off, the prices and service were also excellent!!! The Beatrice is an exceptionally quaint place for a phenomenal meal and/or a glass of wine from their vast selection!!!

Not great pics, but this was my take out today! Tofu bulgogi and power salad! So so yummy!

If you haven't checked out The Beatrice yet.... Do it now! I'm obsessed with this new restaurant/wine bar. The atmosphere is such a cool vibe to have a business luncheon, meet up with friends for a glass of wine, or chill by yourself! The food is so fresh and delicious! I eat plant based which can be challenging, but the staff is more than accommodating to tweak dishes to meet any dietary considerations! My two favorite dishes are the beef bulgogi lettuce cups which they sub tofu for me. I'm not typically a huge tofu fan at restaurants because it's seldom cooked well, but the folks at The Beatrice have mastered it. It's cooked perfectly every time! My other favorite is the power salad minus feta with extra "stuff"!!! I always order both so I have the salad for later. I know when food is prepared with the best ingredients like fresh herbs, veggies and seasonings. Again, the Beatrice is all about really good food!!! They also have a very nice & affordable wine selection! This is the type of place Medford needs more of! Eat fresh, be healthy!!

A happy hour menu was posted in the window-from 4-5pm every day of the week. We got in during happy hour and were able to score one of the few outdoor creekside tables. It was super pleasant to be able to sit outside and hear the creek while eating delicious food. Ordered the house made blackberry soda-pretty good. Also had the happy hour fried chicken and hh burger, as well as the scallops off of the main menu. The burger was thick and juicy. My kids and husband said the fries were some of the best they've had-crispy exterior and soft interior. Fried chicken had a light crispy coating on the outside and the honey Aleppo mixture was great, though son said it could've used a little more salt. My scallops were some of the best scallops I've ever had before--so well cooked and perfectly seasoned and with these thinly sliced snap peas that were just barely blanched that added texture and freshness to the dish. For dessert I had the olive oil cake with fresh berries--so delicious and perfect way to top off the meal. Service was pretty good. Would def be back!

As a chef at two James Beard-winning restaurants, a server, owner, and consultant, I have dedicated my life to the food industry and the people within it. I'm from Ashland, and I was so happy when places like this started showing up in my hometown. Good food and atmosphere can be so hard to find. Coming home to Ashland can be a true oasis for my family. My wife and I have made it our life's mission to make our daughter feel equal and included. Our daughter was born with a rare condition called AMC and does not have normal function in any of her limbs. She currently spends 3-4 days a week in physical therapy to continue building strength so her body and organs can function properly. We were visiting family at the park and suggested stopping in for a beverage and snacks to escape the heat after a long day. We typically plan everything ahead to ensure wherever we go can accommodate my daughter's wheelchair and needs. When we arrived, we thought, "Wow, perfect, she can wheel right in and up to one of the many open tables." Once we were "greeted" by the host, I realized we were not who she wanted to deal with. Three kids, three adults, a stroller, and a wheelchair. She looked like she wanted nothing to do with us, like we were dirt on her shoe. "No reservation," she said. I replied, "Yeah, so sorry, we figured since it was a Monday night right when you opened, and there were only two two-tops seated, we could probably find somewhere to sit." I reassured her we would not stay long enough to impact reservations at the larger front tables, which usually have reserved markers on them but did not at the time. We could all feel that she didn't want to seat us, and we left despite me practically begging to make something work for us, because I know she could have if she wanted to. Being from the industry, I understand what kids can do to an atmosphere, and I know a lot of restaurant workers don't enjoy dealing with other people's children. But when we went outside and my daughter cried and said, "They didn't want me there" So I loaded my daughter's wheelchair back into the car so I could carry her up the stairs at Brickroom, where one employee was working the entire place and took amazing care of us, I might add. We resorted to a booster seat for my daughter since she couldn't use her wheelchair there. She ended up falling out of the seat and slamming onto the hardwood floor. She cried and was embarrassed. The young man tending bar while also waiting every table rushed over with a bag of ice to comfort her. It was honestly touching how kind he was. When we left Brickroom, we had spent more time there than we originally intended to spend at Bar Juliet. As we walked back by Bar Juliet, we noticed the restaurant was still only about half full, and one of the large front tables had remained open the entire time from around 4:10 until 5:40 when we walked by again. I had to stop and ask the host why she couldn't have seated us considering that table never filled. Her only explanation was, "Our kitchen is slow getting food out." Such an incredibly weak excuse. I hope she understands she was wrong and that she made my daughter feel unwanted simply because accommodating us wasn't convenient for her. I have never left a review in my life, but I was so saddened and disgusted by this experience that I felt I had to.

A Disappointing Experience from Start to Finish. Save Yourself the Trouble…read more We were a group of 12 celebrating a friend's birthday and had been genuinely excited to try this restaurant. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in recent memory. The service was a disaster before we even sat down. Two members of our party, including a 92-year-old woman, arrived first and stood at the entrance for five full minutes without a single staff member greeting or even acknowledging them, and the hostess walked by them twice. When the rest of us arrived, I politely asked the hostess if we could pull over two empty chairs (that were sitting unused right next to our table) to accommodate our group of 12 (I made a reservationfor 10). What followed was baffling. She said she needed to check, then came back and completely ignored my request and half of our party were left standing patiently waiting. I then asked the sous chef directly, same runaround, but this time he chastised me for making the request. My boyfriend asked a third staff member. Also ignored. It took three separate requests before they finally brought out chairs from the back. The condescension throughout this whole ordeal was palpable. The service at the table was equally poor. Our server never introduced herself, never told us her name, and never asked if we needed anything, she just silently poured water and walked away. When we ordered six sparkling waters, only three arrived. When I asked again, she disappeared into the kitchen and came back to tell us they were out. We also had to ask separately for silverware, it was never brought to the table. The menu was shockingly sparse for a "nice" restaurant, three appetizers, two salads, and three entrees (lamb, duck, and market fish). The brisket we saw at another table? Not on the menu because they'd already run out. One of the appetizers was literally store-bought Lay's potato chips with crème fraîche. At a high-end restaurant. I'll let that speak for itself. The entrées were the final letdown. We asked what the fish was and our server had to go ask the chef, it was snapper. Nine of us ordered it. It arrived in small bowls that appeared designed to disguise just how tiny the portion was, think one fish stick's worth of fish. It was clearly a normal portion divided among multiple plates to cover the demand. I had three bites and left hungry. The lamb eaters in our group didn't rave either. The one bright spot, the Johan wine was superb. For the price point and the promise of this restaurant, this was an absolute failure in hospitality, food quality, and basic service. I would not return and cannot recommend it.
