The food was good. Not great but good. Much better than boardwalk pizza. Service was terrible. This place was SERIOUSLY understaffed. We waited 10 mins between each person's food order being delivered. When we asked what happened we were told "We have one cook and that's the nature of us being busy." My dad said something to the manager while my mom was sitting (hungry and last) waiting for her food and he just waved us off and told us they were working on it. I was very unimpressed with Mr. P's. I was excite to try this place after hearing the ads and reading the reviews. With that being said I was dissapointed. The pizza was okay. Nothing special and nothing I am looking forward to eating again. I would eat it again but I'm definitely not rushing to do so anytime. Tried calling in a take out order for Friday at 5:00. Answering machine said they were not taking orders due to the heavy volume. Pizza took 28 minutes from when the waitress left our table. Atm not working. Waitress never checked on us or even acknowledged the delay in service. Pizza was ok, lots of crust. Garlic sauce would be a good offering a la papa johns. Let's start with the good things about Mr. P. They have a huge selection of local craft beers and will let you sample them before you buy. As a showcase for local beers, this place is awesome, and the beer is fantastic. The Natural Potato Chips ($2) are lightly seasoned with Old Bay and are both tasty and a great bargain. The Sweet Potato Fries ($5) are clearly machine cut and frozen, but are served in generous quantities and perfectly crisped. If you go to this place for beer and fries/appetizers, you can't go wrong. The chicken wings are also crispy and well executed. 5-stars for this part of the menu. The food is another matter entirely. When it comes to sandwiches, if you use good bread, it doesn't matter what you put on it, it will taste good. By the same token, start with stale or flavorless bread and there's nothing you can do to make the sandwich taste good. The same principle applies to pizzas. If the crust is good, it doesn't matter what you put on it, the pizza is going to be delicious. If the crust isn't good, there no way to make it taste good. The pizza crust at Mr. P is not good. The wood firing helps a little, but it's fundamentally an inferior crust. Consequently, the pizzas are not good. Some reviewers have complained about the marinara sauce used on the pizzas. I couldn't get my palate to consider this, because there's no point in looking beyond the crust (see above). Knowing that I didn't like the pizza, on a subsequent visit I ordered Pasta with Sausage ($13) and got a Greek salad to go with it. Now I can talk about the marinara: it was watery and bland, and the sausage lacked personality. A good Italian sausage is loaded with fennel seeds and bursting with flavor -- this was not that sausage. The salad was a salad, but the dressing just didn't taste good. I regretted dumping it on the salad before tasting it. The food at this place put in a solid 1-star performance, for an average of 3-stars. Come for the beer and enjoy a few appetizers, but avoid the pizza and pasta if you have a discerning palate. read more

We vacation in Lewes every year and have driven by Mr. P's and just never thought to stop in. A few locals highly recommended it, so we decided to give it a try- and saw their motto right on their website: "We chose Quality over quantity," First off, getting pizza from this place is somewhat of a quest. Last year we tried, we were told that they couldn't accept any more orders that night because they only have one wood-fired oven. We understood and for a year waited to give it a go, and we called on Friday night, ordered a pizza and calzone, and got a pick-up time that was two hours out. This was okay, and when I went to pick-up, it was ready and took it home. Once we got back to the house we flipped the box and quickly found disappointment. As you look at the pictures, it is difficult to tell the calzone was actually a calzone; it looked like they were running late and used a torch on the poor thing. The crust of the pizza was black. The kids were hungry, so we gave it a try, thinking this might just look worse than it tasted...but no, this stuff tasted like burnt toast. So I did what I think anyone would do, I called Mr. P to understand if this was up to "quality" standards. Well here's the rub --- they don't pick up when they are busy. Instead, you get a voicemail message from Mr. P telling you (at length) about their quality vs. the other guys, why it takes so long to make a pizza, rules of ordering etc. So when you have a legitimate question on the "quality" of the product they just sold you, they essentially ignore the phone. I told the friendly voicemail about the issue, and asked for a call, as I was not going to make the long drive back. Two days later, and NO call! So at his point I am working with the assumption that the "well-done, extra crispy" IS the norm at Mr. P's. The person working the oven that slid the burnt thing it in the box obviously thought it "quality." I have had wood-fired pizza at other restaurants, and you don't have to burn it just because you can. It is more difficult to cook the pizza than a traditional oven, but this is their specialty. I would expect after 17 years, they would have worked these types of kinks out. My sense is that they have built the business around them, and not the customer. If you have a problem when they are busy, you need to drive to Mr. P's. If you need to use a credit card, you will need to go find cash (they only accept cash.) You want to order a slice of pizza, you need to be in by 3:01. This just isn't a great customer experience at any level- they have made it all about them. My advice to those looking for pizza, go with someone that has a business model that revolves around the customer. That night Grottos came to our rescue, always consistent and prompt; there are many other quality pizza places in the area. We learned our lesson and will keep driving past Mr. P's next year; if this is what they mean by Quality pizza, we will chose quantity pizza every day of the week. read more

Some of the best wood-fired brick hearth pizza I've had, and I love my pizza! Their 'Pizza Alla Puttanesca with Goat Cheese', which included tomato sauce, shredded whole milk mozzarella, artichokes, capers, black olives, fresh garlic and goat cheese is as good as it gets. Some people refer to this as Greek pizza. Whatever you want to call it, it is definitely in my top 5 pizzas of all time! read more

Ended up here as a result of a billboard! When we arrived there was a sign that said " cash only, ATM inside". We left and went to the bank to get cash! So happy we returned! The pizza was amazing! We ordered a pepperoni and a shrimp and pesto pizza. Both were excellent! We also ordered a Caesar salad that came with shredded mozzarella cheese on top, I thought this was very strange but the dressing made up for the lack of Parmesan cheese! Delicious pizza, obviously wood fired, smoky, but not overwhelmingly so, tasty crust, fresh ingredients. Prices commensurate with the high quality. Beer prices reasonable too. The style of pie, despite the wood oven, is not the typical cracker thin crust and sparing toppings typically found, the pie seems halfway between gas oven Jersey and Neapolitan. Good stuff. We will be back when we visit Delaware beaches! In my distress, I immediately called the restaurant to see if the purse was still there. As soon as Rick picked up the phone, he reassured me the purse was there and that he would next day mail the purse to us and save us the 6 hour drive there and back. I just received my purse, as promised 24 hours later. There are still good people in this world and Rick and the staff at Mr. Ps are among those! We are forever grateful for the service, extra mile and generosity this restaurant showed us. I live in Lewes and eat at most of the restaurants here and in Rehoboth regularly. Without doubt, Mr. P has the best pizza in the area. For one thing, the restaurant has an Italian, wood-fired oven -- by far the best way to make pizza. For another, the fellow who makes the pizzas has been there for as long as the place has been open -- almost ten years by now -- even though the restaurant itself has changed hands. I especially recommend the #2 pizza for pepperoni lovers. But really, *all* of the pizzas are outstanding. The house salad is large and very good as well. I don't recommend the pasta dishes particularly -- stick with the house specialty: the best pizza in the Lewes - Rehoboth area. Service is fine -- this place is the opposite of fancy. Prices are very reasonable -- but bring cash; they stopped taking cards recently. Hmmm, I might go there tonight! read more

Went to Mr p yesterday for lunch to get some good pizza. Not very impressed and kind of expensive. . I prefer a thin crunchy crust but what I got was kind of spongy. . Also strange that they do not take credit cards and also do not do call ahead. Wood burning stove was nice but very limited in capacity. . Could only handle two xl pizza at time. So if you are in vacation and feel like sitting and waiting for some spongy pizza you can go to Mr ps. Otherwise I would do to grotto. read more

I don't ever write reviews on here but I was so upset after we left here I just had to. We are locals in Lewes and have been here many times. We love the food and it's a great local spot. However recently we had a bad experience that ruined it for us. We walked in with a baby on a busy night. Now I understand it's busy and we would have to wait for a seat. We were going to order take out but wanted to sit down and have an appetizer and beer while we waited for it. We told the guy and girl at the front and they said "yeah... but you have a baby". Oddly enough, we are aware we have a baby. As we turned around the young waitress gave us a rude smirk like why are we here with a baby. Needless to say we were treated very rudely by high school kids working because we had a baby. We emailed the owner but never heard back. Unfortunately we will probably not be back. Good meal! When eating out with my family, it is hard to get a good all around meal. We have a food critic that has high expectations, a vegan and a gluten free eater all in the same party. Not to mention, I am from NY and spent a lot of time in Chicago, and consider myself a pizza snob. Everyone was very impressed. The dough is very unique. Similar to NY style but is also thicker and doughy, but has great texture. Decent sauce and toppings made for a good pie! My wife who is gluten free had the gluten free pizza and was also impressed. Gluten free pizza is generally an after thought a most who try it don't execute it very well. I even tried it and thought it was very good! All around good meal. I have found that most of the great food in Rehoboth Beach is closer to Lewes and the less commercialized popular tourist areas. A must try! read more
