So I was feeing a little closed in from all the studying that I've been doing for finals. I really wanted to do something, go somewhere so I called up my guy, Curtis, and we decided to hit up West Edmonton Mall. I know what you must be thinking WEM in December; you must be crazy! But the mall wasn't too bad and we decided to hit up Moxie's. I've been to Moxie's but I haven't been to that location before. It was my first time ;) Anyways the place was boomin' with people and we decided to sit out on the indoor patio to do some people watching while we waited. It was so nice and warm... must have been the heating lamps that were located above us. It was really quite nice... it felt like a nice summer day instead of a really cold Edmonton winter night. I love chicken burgers so that's what I got; the Ranch-house Chicken Burger with a piece of pan seared chicken breast, bacon, havarti cheese, ranch sauce and BBQ sauce and of course a burger is not complete without fries. Well I have to say my burger was great! Even the bun was good... it wasn't hard and overly toasted to the point were you could break a tooth trying to consume it. No, it was perfect. Oh and the fries... they were to die for. Curtis couldn't help himself and gobbled them down (men!). Well Curtis was in the mood for something "lighter", unlike me: burger and fries all the way! He ordered the Top Sirloin Steak Salad with Goat Cheese. Boy did it ever look good. The sirloin steak was medium-rare and according to Curtis it was cooked perfectly. The salad dressing surprised him. It was sweet at first and then the spice hit him... he said it was amazing. The salad was a mix of greens, tomatoes and yes, goat cheese. To top it all off the dish came with a side of banana bred. Oh my God was the banana bread delicious. I have to say it was better than mamma's (don't tell her that!). We didn't have drinks, just some ice tea, which was delightful. We were just way to full to order dessert. Yes, the man who ordered the salad was too stuffed to order more yummy food! To top it off, the bill didn't break the bank the whole meal, for two, was under $40.00. It was a great night all around. We were both glad we decided to dine at a classing looking joint, eat food meant for nobility, but not pay an arm and a leg for it. Plus the service was great. We are defiantly going back! read more

Had a blackened steak, was burnt, really good about getting a new one but then really rare ... I reassured them I like blackened steak just not burnt... on a side note steak was fatty but that's not the cooks fault ... Moxies 99 percent of the time is great not sure what happened today ... as usual moxies had great customer service waitress was great and removed the steak from my bill ... Moxie's feels somewhat like a Boston Pizza with an Asian fusion restaurant decor. There is a predictable line up of popular appetizers and main dishes to appeal to a wide variety of preferences. Whether it's salmon,chicken,or beef I always find their meats to be flavorful and well cooked. I would recommend fries before salad as your side dish as I find their side salads to be the smallest I have ever received at any restaurant and im not a fan of some of the ingredients they put in them. I also suggest against sitting in the lounge unless your expecting a long wait to be seated in the restaurant area. My dining companion and I were stuck in there the last time we were at West Ed and found the lighting to be dim and the area to be very loud. If you can get past the shouting and squinting as well as the slightly predictable menu this is a fine place to sit down and have a meal. If your looking for something more exotic or for an experience unique to bourbon street however keep on walking and check out somewhere like the Red Piano instead. read more

Good ol' classic Moxies. I'm not quite sure why you exist with other similar restaurants residing in the same vicinity. Do I go to you for your decent appetizers? Do I go to you to devour your giant burger even though the same burger exists right next door at DeLux or downtown at Pub 1905? Is it the extremely low lighting in the dining area? I guess you can strike it up to variety. By giving me the ability to choose where I want to eat even though they're all the same, it makes me feel like I'm in control rather than "Oh great, I have to eat here again!" Their Caesar's were actually quite delicious. I got a stalk of celery, a jalepeño, and a lime! It's the little things that make me smile and I'm glad they filled mine right to to the top even though it wasn't "Moxie sized". My burger in size (the full works with bacon, cheese, mushrooms) was a little bit smaller than Pub 1905's infamous monster. But as I finished off the burger and fries, I didn't feel that pregnant which is always a good thing. Although I didn't notice, our server constantly peeked over at us to see how we were doing. WIth the Caesar and Burger, it clocked in at about $22.00. Not that great for dinner since we're talking about a burger but i'm glad I can notch this place under my belt for future references if the mood strikes. read more

What a disaster of a restaurant. There is so much wrong and so, so little right. I ordered an Old Fashioned off their cocktail menu - (I had a really impressive Old Fashioned the day before at Earls that was soooo good, and so I was still totally feeling in an "Old Fashioned Mood"). Well, this was not an old fashioned, it is a cup of bourbon and some sugar on the rocks... Terrible! I then found a decent white wine. I then ordered the med bread trio and a "healthy" chili chicken (aka don't deep fry the chicken breast). The med bread trio was ok; 3 un-inspiring dips with thin, dried out bread. I've had this menu item before at the North Common location and it was much better. Then there was the chili chicken, the what *to me, seemed like soy infused, artificially plumped up chicken breasts, yuck - then the dish (which usually comes with cucumber, had next to no cucumbers, (seriously, 3 thin, tiny slices) and the whole things was drowning in sauce. Wow. Horrible. Then to top off the evening, the floor by the washrooms was covered in grease, and I almost bit it. What was good you ask? My server. She was upbeat, on the ball and should really look into applying elsewhere. She could be working at a much better place! read more

Ok...this was the order: A pasta dish for my friends wife which looked pretty good... a child's pizza which the 1 year old seemed to enjoy... fish and chips was my order...could have gotten more tartar sauce with it and the mayo dip isn't even that much of a serving...thumbs down here but the fish tasted good... my friend had to change his order 3 times cuz apparently all their meals deal with peanut oil, understandably so, good thing we asked or the waitress would have missed it...he went from 2 pasta dishes to just ordering the philly beef dip...i ate half of his sandwich and wasn't even amazed...thumbs down we wanted to order a starter of chicken wings...you cannot mess up chicken wings...I would tell people not to order it at MOXIE's, the wings were the size of my pinky. i think Moxie's should be glad that i didn't take a picture, they were overcooked and dry. they even try to drees it up with carrot sticks...thumbs way down to be quite honest, i'd give this place 0 stars from what we experienced yesterday. I would have had a lot more fun enoying my food at the restaurant beside it with scantilly clad women...yes i would have droppped all my standards and eaten at the OWL place. I gave it 2 stars cuz my friend likes the white chocolate brownie...honestly, there is nothing great about the brownie...its white, it has chocolate, whip cream, ice cream and drizzled chocolate on the side...whoopitty too...I can do that at home. Visiting Edmonton for Spring Break and excited about WEM. After skating at the Ice Palace with the family/kids, decided to head over to Moxie's Classic Grill-Bourbon Street since it's always a sure thing restaurant in Calgary. We happily waited about 20 minutes for a table. Firstly the waitress was lovely however we couldn't have been more disappointed in the overall experience. I ordered a beer and side of clamato juice and the clamato never arrived even after reminding the waitress. So I cancelled it when I ordered my second beer. Husband ordered a fully loaded burger with fries for dinner. We were never brought ketchup until we asked for it and he said the burger was nothing special. I ordered my second beer when our food arrived and so did husband. His beer never arrived (and he ended up cancelling it as well). I ordered a ceasar salad and specifically asked for some spicy chicken to accompany it. I was told the cajun chicken would do the trick. The ceasar salad lacked flavour (even husband agreed) and was the worst I've ever had. The spicy chicken was not spicy and lacking in flavour as well. I finished the chicken but could not eat the bland salad. Based on how good our experience with Moxie's in Calgary has been, we were to say the least very disappointed. The waitress did take my meal off the bill without us asking and she was very apologetic for the overall dinner (again she was lovely). I should have read some of the reviews on this place before coming...not so favourable here or on trip advisor. I honestly can not say we will return to this restaurant. read more

Moxies offers a premium dining experience in Edmonton. It is hard to describe the food they offer, but it is inline with Joeys and Earls. It's difficult to determine what attire to wear. They try to create a chic/modern atmosphere with the dim lighting and loud music, yet a lot of the diners are coming from the mall, and as such are wearing something casual instead. From 'ok' dishes to scantily clad women, there was nothing enthusiast about this location. The chicken wings were microscopic, perhaps the smallest in town, and the calamari had been the victim of a salt-binge. The double cheese platter are also alright, but a few of my friends commented how they were of sports-bar quality. Their Louisiana chicken club sandwich was also another miss; the chicken was good, but everything was falling apart the moment I took one bit into it, essentially creating a salad beneath. The New York Steak was not much more impressive either. The steak had a lot of pepper and was mostly burnt if not extremely blackened. Luckily I was able to get a new steak which was not as burnt or over-peppered as the first attempt. The redeeming factor came from the banana bread that came with the sandwich. It's an interesting addition, and met with warm reception from the taste-buds. The sticky toffee pudding was also delicious- a warm, dense cake topped with toasted almonds, caramel and french vanilla ice cream. read more

It wasn't busy, pretty sure we were the second or third table there. I opted to order nothing and the others cancelled their orders. My sister, niece, boyfriend and I wanted to have supper together and we decided on Moxies. We didn't have a reservation but they accommodated us and sat us at large quite booth. Our waitress was very quick, and didn't miss a beat. My niece had the lettuce wraps, sister, blackened burger, my boyfriend, crispy chicken burger, and myself "The Burger". Everything was great, no one had complaints about anything. Here's what was so great about the evening: I had gone to Sephora and bought some face moisturizer as well as some hourglass bronzer. I spent a hundred dollars, and as we left I also left my Sephora bag there on the seat at the table. Fifteen minutes later I realized I left it there, I thought I was going to have to go to the back and snach someone's weave up off their head while they try on my bronzer. Wasn't the case, our waitress had kept the bag in the back and had it ready for me, I was so thankful and relived it had been kept for me, and nothing was taken. My fiancé ordered a dish that was too spicy and the manager, Ashley, was amazing! Quickly replaced his meal with another dish and comped our entire meal! I was so surprised and grateful! Went to the Bourbon Street location today with my family for lunch and had the worst service experience in my life, and that's not an exaggeration. The server took a while to greet us, and once we ordered our drinks she took another good while to bring those, even though we could see that her section was not too busy. My husband and I have worked in the service industry for years, and are very understanding when the situation calls for it, as we have both been there, done that. I know when servers are swamped and when they are just plain, bad servers. Anyway, I decided to order brunch and asked her about the pancetta and what other meat I could add to the eggs Benedict, and she said the pancetta was the bread... WTF?! but okay... So I asked her to please make sure before I ordered. She comes back and, as it turns out, "pancetta is bacon" so I decide not to ask any more questions about the food because I wasn't going to get any right answers anyway. After everyone ordered, the food took about 20-25 minutes to arrive. My husband ordered the fettuccine, my brother-in-law ordered a burger, his mom and my sis-in-law got breakfast too, and my nephew got popcorn chicken. Everyone's food came out, but not mine. 10 minutes go by and we still don't see our server--she doesn't check how everyone else's food came out, and no one comes by to give me any idea what is going on with my food. After another 5 minutes I finally get pissed off enough to get up and try to find a manager, and had a hostess tell me she would send someone over right away. A few minutes later a manager comes over with my food in hand, swearing up and down that the server rang it in and the kitchen sent one out, but who knows where that particular dish went cause it definitely didn't come to me. By now my whole family has finished eating and I tell him that my brother-in-law's mother's food came out cold as well, but with no server in sight for a good while she couldn't even ask for that to get warmed up so she just ate it. He then says, "oh, your potatoes were cold... Would you like some more?" Well no, cause she already ate her cold potatoes as she was hungry and didn't want to wait around. So I ate my pretty horrible Eggs Benedict, still fuming. It didn't help that the food wasn't any better than the service, but at this point I couldn't expect much anyway. The baguettes my eggs were on were rock hard that I had a hard time even cutting them into bite-sized pieces. Needless to say, I'd lost my appetite at this point and didn't finish the food. My husband ate some of my food after I'd put it off to the side and wasn't impressed at all either. No one at our table got refills on their drinks while this was all going on, and by now we are all pretty pissed off and can't wait to leave. My brother-in-law came back from the bathroom saying it was a mess in there as well... It seemed like there was nothing this place could do right. We finally asked for the bill, and the manager returned saying he took care of the entire thing and gave us vouchers to come back so they could "try to make things right." In the end, the effort was appreciated, but I wish it didn't get that far. We could understand if it were a minor mistake, but it seems the whole situation was just a mess from beginning to end. I hate being "that customer" at restaurants because I've served my fair share of those, but I've never experienced anything like that before and I've certainly never given service that badly before in my time as a server! It's a shame that an establishment like that would leave such a bad impression, whether it was the server's fault or the management's for not training their staff correctly. Either way, we will be using the vouchers at another location, simply because we have them, but we will definitely not be returning to the Bourbon Street location ever again. read more

Great service, delicious belinis. I had the Parmesan chicken sandwich, which was very good. The server was friendly and excellent at her job. We also tried the drink special- the white peach belini- and I haven't found one so delicious since OPM was still in business. There was some issue with the debit machine when it came time to pay, but our server had it resolved quickly. My only criticism is the lighting- it was so dim that it was difficult to see my food or my company! Overall though, we had a good time and I would probably come back. read more

I also would like to compliment Moxie's on the following appetizers: calamari, crab and scallop cakes, and wasabi tuna tartar; as well as on the following entrees: roasted beet and arugula salad, BBQ sake noodle soup and California fish tacos. All these dishes are delectable and mouth-watering. Whenever I dine at Moxie's, I am impressed with the customer service: waiting personnel are friendly and considerate. Relaxed atmosphere and trendy décor add to the niceness of the experience. The drinks, on the other hand, leave a lot to be desired. Maybe it's just me, but most drinks taste like they have been diluted with water. Since I mostly come to Moxie's for food and not the drinks, it's not a big tragedy. read more

I've been to this restaurant a couple of times. The service is not the greatest. The food is alright too. Once I had to get my lunch packed up for me so I could take it to go, the server brought me the container for me to do it myself. I didn't know like that at all. That's not the way the other servers usually did it. This server had given me the worst service I've ever received there. He doesn't even refill our glasses. It was ironic because it was during lunch time and the place was empty. So I would have expected more attention from the server. I would go back again. Just wouldn't be my first choice. read more

My husband and I had a hard week at work and we both decided to treat ourselves and have a date night. We decided to do some shopping at West Edmonton Mall and afterwards have a romantic dinner with drinks. We decided to go to Moxie's as we had dined there before and enjoyed it. The restaurant had a nice vibe it was a bit busy but not crazy busy as it was after 9PM, we got seated and our server came. She was a blond server with curly hair, we could tell right away that she did not want to be at work that evening, she very rudely asked us what we wanted to drink and asked if we wanted appetizers, we said we needed a minute to look at the menu. She rolled her eyes and walked away very annoyed. She right away ruined the mood for us, she gave us our drinks and said okay what is your order? We ordered our food, a very nice different waiter brought our food out. Honestly the food was great she never came back to asks us if our steaks were cooked okay she never came back to ask us if we wanted more drinks, we had to ask another waiter for a drink and she brought it to us and dropped it off did not make any eye contact and walked away. My husband and I wanted to rush and get out of there once we finished she came and asked us if we wanted anything else, we said no and she had the bill ready with the debit machine honestly, horrible service we had to go to Cactus club to enjoy some cocktails. Their Kale and quinoa salad with roasted chicken breasts strips was a true delicious and healthy choice. Every mouthful was full of freshness from the veggies and seeds. The fruity slushy Margarita was refreshing and thirst quenching. The menu was a bit predictable though. When it comes to dessert, it's nice to have a mini size on certain items to choose from. My original server brought me the bill when I was having dessert and told me there was absolutely no rush. A few minutes later another server came over and asked in a pleasant tone as how I would pay. I was still working on my dessert. It was a bit odd. They were far from closing. What was the rush? If you're a huge fan of the typical Vancouver imports (Earl's, Joey, Cactus Club) then you'll likely enjoy Moxie's, which fits right in. The Moxie's at West Edmonton Mall is just like any other Moxie's: dim lighting, loud music, young servers dressed entirely in black, a bustling bar, etc. This location is obviously a popular site for shoppers to stop after a long day of browsing so, at times, the actual atmosphere of the restaurant is irrelevant -- people will enter in whatever they are wearing, with whatever they are carrying. Each time I have gone to this location (including my most recent visit), the greeting at the door is fairly sub-standard. Little charm, all business to sit you down as quickly as possible. I never choose a spot on the "patio" because of the noise of Bourbon Street, which sometimes seems louder than the music they are playing inside. On my most recent visit, my server was very good. She was highly attentive and willing (and ready) to answer questions -- a high improvement over the hostess who had zero menu knowledge. However, one thing I noticed was the MASSIVE amounts of staff they had on shift. They were literally swarming the service stations/POS areas. At any point and time, I could usually count 6-8 staff simply standing around in different areas. It looked terrible. Cuisine was typical chain grill affair. Their steaks are generally done fairly well. I ordered the steak sandwich last time I was there and it was done as I asked, but the way it was plated made it look like an extremely small portion compared to a mess of fries and sauces simply thrown on the plate. Whether you are a super high end place or not, you should always pay a bit of attention to the way you plate a meal. I also ordered the Moxie's peppercorn sauce for the first time and was extremely disappointed: it was very overwhelming while having an unpleasant taste. Avoid the extra dollar spent and just enjoy the already seasoned steak. All in all, Moxie's is your typical safe bet chain restaurant, including this location. read more

Moxie's get's a good rating from me because of the MENU. They literally have one of the best menus. I love the options and variety. My favourite is definately the beef vindaloo! absolutely delicious! love the white chocolate brownie! med bread yes!! avocado springs rolls scrumptious! steak also deliteful! The menu is definitely a 5! However i dont like that the food is dependent on the location. For example the beef vindaloo is usally excellent at the Bourbon Street location but crappy at the Kingsway Location. I find that with moxies, you actually have to find your favourite location. FYI: this website states that Moxie's takes reservations .... they do not! We used this website to pick a restaurant for a friends birthday and we sent out invites .... we called to book reservations a day before the event and SURPRISE ... they dont' take reservations!! I told the manager the mix up about this, and she was not able to help me, she told me they had a strict policy that they do not accept reservations ... so now we have to show up 2 hours ahead of time because our invites state: dinner @ 7 which is the busiest time in the restaurant business so if we want to all sit together, this would be best she said. There are 10 of us attending and needless to say, I am close to calling a different venue that takes reservations as I am so displeased with Moxies customer service. read more

We have been able to overlook the bad service in the past because of the great food but no service? Don't know if it is because they are short staffed or just badly managed. Noticed that we were not the only ones unhappy, another couple got up and left after waiting for approximately 5 minutes without even getting a menu despite trying to get a wait person's attention. I have been going to Moxies's resturants for years. The Moxies in WEM is the most dissappointing one I have been to - everytime I go, something gets messed up or the food or service isn't great. It isn't the cleanest either. This time, the drinks were awful. The slush in the raspberry kiwi crushes that we ordered was mostly melted and they tasted like they had been sitting at the bar for half an hour. When we complained to our waiter he said - "ya, the slushy machine isn't working very good tonight." So much for getting the drinks we wanted. The salad I ordered was mostly lettuce and pretty much no dressing. It's the little details that make people come back to a resturant. I enjoy moxies - just don't go to this location, you most likely will leave less a fan if you do! read more

I eat here a lot; however my last visit here left me dismayed. I sat in the lounge with my mom. My server was quite indifferent. Ordered sweet potato fries for mom, got regular fries. No cutlery with our meals; had to steal one set from the next unoccupied table. Still, I was okay. Ordered dessert. No spoons. Went up to the bar to ask for spoons. Then went to see the manager about the cutlery. He blamed it on a broken dishwasher. Really? Ha. How is that MY problem? If I wanted to do dishes I'd eat at home. And the next table can have cutlery? He realized he had put his foot in his mouth. I went back to my table. Still no spoons. Then my server came by and saw the dessert thus far untouched for obvious lack of spoons. I was still okay. She took the second set of cutlery from the same table (consisting of two forks and a knife in a napkin) and gave it to us for dessert. That r-e-a-l-l-y upset me. I could have taken those myself; didn't need her for that. Just then the spoons arrived in front of my server. She showed no remorse over the poor service and that she attempted to dump two forks and a knife on me to eat dessert with. The bill was another 20 minutes after I asked for it. read more

What I enjoy besides good food at a good price is that one does have enough sitting space to enjoy a private conversation without interruption from strangers!! I have read other reviews and maybe I am just a lucky camper but I have never experienced any negative behavior of any kind and I go there quite often with family and they share my view. Friends and I went to Moxie's Kingsway, Monday night for dinner and a catch up visit. It was quite busy when we first arrived. Our server Diane was a little slow in coming by to take our initial drink order (which was water) and then it took a while before she returned with them. At that time we ordered drinks (a glass of wine and a caesar) and our meals. While watching her and waiting for our drinks (took about 15 minutes) it was rather obvious that she was not the most attentive server - we constantly had to ask for water refills. 3 peoples meals came out together and one was delayed because the order wasn't correct (Caesar salad - dressing on the side). When it did arrive there wasn't any garlic toast and when asked she seemed very confused about it. I'm not sure if she was new to serving in general but unfortunately because of her service none of us were impressed and don't plan on going back to that Moxie's in the near future.
