Yummy drink and dip
Yazmin J.

Went there for supper with my sister on a game day. We asked to go to the lounge to see the game. They accommodate our request. My sisters phone was dead so she asked to borrow one to charge it in order to get her Vaccine QR or RQ lol whichever haha. They were good about it. The waitress cracked jokes with is the whole time. A few times my sis and i were having an intimate conversation (girl talk). The waitess gave us our space and privacy which was also super nice. The spinach dip is to die for. I had a thi bowl, which was really good. Super spicy (by request.) It was big sp I took somw home for lunch the next day. Definitely will be back. I can't remember the name of the cocktail but it was also super good!

Avocado super toast

Earl's was our last spot to get a drink and eat before heading home. I really loved the open space of the restaurant, along with the large marble bar seating area. We sat at the and ordered drinks and three light bites -- -avocado toast: I think this was when avocado toast was all the rage and everyone wanted to copy that shit. its no longer on the menu, thank you god. that bread was terrible and hard, and its like they used half an avocado to spread on 5 pieces of toast (is it bc they were rationing what CA sent over?) -coconut shrimp: THIS was good. Came out hot, crunchy and nicely battered. They had a bit of coleslaw-type thing on the side -warm spinach dip: this was a great sharable item. but what is up with the bread being so hard? did they just cut up pieces of bread and give it to us -- no seasoning, no warming up.. nothing. WHY EARLS, why you gotta do me so wrong? I wanted to like you, but how you gotta mess up on BREADDD ps. bartender was cool

Went to Earls in south common for a little ladies evening and since the third lockdown started, no indoor dining is allowed. Luckily this location has 2 really great patios that are beautiful and spacious. They are also setting up a third patio with a temporary tent out front as well. Earls is always a safe choice because you know the food is consistent, the drinks are good, and the ambiance is usually good too. This time we got a great spot on the patio right next to the fireplace. The booths are all partitioned off so you cannot really see anyone you're sitting beside. We ordered the Buffalo cauliflower, the gyoza, the spicy tuna maki, and the sticky toffee chocolate pudding for dessert. We also ordered a side of the garlic mashed potatoes. No drinks for us this time just water. The bill was VERY reasonable and came to just over $20 each! I'd say that's a great price for a nice night out with the girls. The service started out great. We didn't make reservations as when we called they said they were not taking reservations. When we showed up around 7pm we didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for them to clean the table for us and seat us. Our initial server was really good, it was busy on the patios that evening. Mid way through our dinner the server had to leave, I think she was off for the evening. We had a new server who wasn't as friendly or attentive as the first girl but was still ok. The bathrooms were very clean. Hand sanitizers at every step of the way in the restaurant and also arrows showing you where to walk. It felt very safe and clean. Highly recommend their patio as it's quite cozy.

Earls is a consistent win, with great appetizers, burgers, steak, salmon, and Caesars. This location has a very attentive, pleasant, and competent cadre of wait staff and bartenders, all of whom were able to share details about the regular and special offerings. We've come here mostly as a couple, but we've hosted large group gatherings as well, and the staff have been able to feed all of us without issue. There's even a chef's tasting menu available with some advanced negotiation; we loved our evening with the chef. Clean, tidy, nicely lighted, with comfortable seats. I'm always happy to return to Earls!

My weekend started with a surprise date from my husband. Earls have been on my foodie bucket list for long. So, my husband decided to check this place off from my list. I would suggest to make a reservation either on call or thru apps like Open Table. They have four kinds of seating arrangement: Patio, Lounge and Dining and atrium. We kicked off our evening with their snacks: Chilli Chicken + Wontons: Crispy wontons piled high on tender chicken is the perfect appetizer to start with. Followed by main course: Margherita Pizza: We decided to go with little light main course. Ordered this lite and yummy pizza topped with house made sauce, mozzarella and chiffonade basil. Yucatan Chicken Tacos: Finally, my favourite part of order has come. Chicken Tacos served with your choice of fries (Regular, Garlic and Yam). I loved this dish completely and i would definitely recommend everyone to try this. Rating: Ambience: 4.5/5 Taste: 4.5/5 Presentation: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Value for Money: 4/5

Smaller portion of salad (not sure on the name but it was well enjoyed)

I guess this is the weekend of extended Christmas gatherings and for this group of friends, Earls was the late supper selection. The restaurant was quite busy at 7 pm, so the first to arrive grabbed a seat in the lounge (which honestly is really only divided by the loudness of music and the restaurant side is pretty loud when you can't properly hear everyone at the booth without them speaking loudly). By the time the rest of us arrived she managed to get us seated at a booth along the windows on the restaurant side. There was a brief comment on how she had to carry her wine glass across the restaurant while carrying her winter jacket and purse and navigating the closely placed tables. However all was good as we 4 were able to come together finally for supper. I had to struggle with the stairs to get to the booth but it was worth it to be further back in the restaurant. I've been to Earls in the past at various locations across the city and in other cities. Honestly, I always find their food options to be fairly safe and consistently standard. Nothing truly unique besides their drink menus (which some of the ladies were able to enjoy). Two of the ladies decided on salads for supper (good choice as the salads here are big but not overwhelming). Another had the soup, salad and bread. I went with the chicken & wontons starter but had it added on top of rice (recommended by waitress). When I was asking about portion sizes, the waitress suggested adding rice to a couple of appetizer options as I wasn't hugely hungry but wanted something filling. Meals were good but as the volume in the restaurant was so loud, it made it really hard for us to properly visit. Especially since the lights dropped fairly low about half way through our meal. It kind of like a signal that they'd like to close even though it was no where near that time. So we cut the evening short. There was multiple troubles with the portable machines to pay. Be very careful that you're not tipping 30% as both machines seemed to really jump at that part when you go to select the tip percentage or dollar amount. Once we got everything finally paid for, this is when the most unfortunate event occurred. As we were sliding out of the booth, my one friend had her pants caught on something sticky under the table. One of course looks immediately to see what needs to be cleaned off. To all of our shock, it was gum. And a lot of it stretched over her knee! Worse when we peered under the table there was much more. Stomachs churned and we all went pale when we realized as she removed the gum with an ice cube that her pants were ruined. Now this could have happened anywhere. However when the waitress offered to get the manager it took over 15 minutes for him to eventually make his way to us. That's 15 minutes of us having to console our friend on of her favourite pants being ruined. He did finally offer to have the pants compensated but honestly I won't be returning any time soon knowing that the tables only get looked at once every two months for gum cleaning. One can't help think of else are they not doing on a regular basis... I didn't have a chance to check the washrooms but they are at least located on the lower part of the restaurant, so no stairs need to be done to access them if you're seated in the lower area. They also have ramp access on the handicap/patio side of the building. So if you're in need of that, you'll need to bypass what looks like the only entrance with stairs and access the ramp on the other side (which is actually well located by the handicap stalls but you might miss it as I did. The railing blends in with the patio, so I didn't notice it until after I got up the stairs and in through the door.

Really liked the ambience . It was a quite sunday nite wid few tables for dinning and few for lounge. Ordered cajun chicken breast with green salad n coleslaw. Breast was very juicy , soft n well marinated with flavours . I dint know if it was the cajun spice or vinegar or wat but the dish was toooooooo salty. I enjoyed it otherwise as i cleaned the cajun spices on top. My partner got some rice bowl which was equally yummy but too much oily...

Very disappointed! Usually have my staff dinner at Earl's Calgary Trail. We have tried this Earls in South Common several times and the food has been the main disappointment. However, the food that we ordered arrived cold after waiting 20 minutes. They need to hire a chef who knows the basics on how to cook/grill a medium rare steak and a rare steak. In their goal to be creative they try to add too many flavours on one plate which do not compliment each other those flavors are lost. Also one thing that has been noted with this bunch of Earls is that they need to consider hiring a few mature staff which would make the older visitors somewhat more comfortable. The only reason why I've given 2 Stars is because of the service received by Martha was great!

I come here every once in a while for a standard American fare, but I notice that menu items change every so often which is nice because it feels like a new experience every couple of years, especially when they experiment with cultural dishes. Parking is great here, lots of spots and it's a great location for a fairly quiet sit down meal before going to the nearby movie theatre. In my opinion, it always takes about 5 minutes to get seated, even when it's not busy. There's a sophisticated atmosphere, but the cushions on club chairs at our table was in slight disrepair. That didn't deduct from our dining experience overall. Staff were hospitable and friendly even after we had a late comer to our table & served out his appetizer order quickly. He did complain that most of the garlic in his garlic fries were in the bottom of the bowl, but that's not a dealbreaker for me. I liked the chefs set menu. I saved about $5 in price comparison & the portion was enough to not have leftovers but also feel full after. Food is beautifully presented too.

Ambiance felt casual enough, but the environment was bright and warm. And our server was a delight, she was very attentive and genuinely very accommodating. Food: - Whipped Ricotta: 10/10 Beautiful, a must get. My absolute favorite dish of the night and the reason I'm even writing this review - it was THAT good. The ricotta is smooth, sweet, and garlicky. We ordered the tomato dipping sauce on the side to add to it, and that added a layer of acidity that was reminiscent of a fancy pizza in itself - Green beans: 6/10 Nothing special, bacon was good. Sauce was fine. Really just a solid veggie dish if you're looking for something green to eat - Karaage: 6.5/10 Not really actual karaage, texture was stringier than a juicy piece of chicken, but it's definitely covered in togarashi (spice) for an added kick. The dill sauce was great though - flavored really well. And adding the tomato dipping sauce to the chicken was actually a next level elevation - Vegetarian pizza: 7.5/10 Those mushrooms were so flavorful in every possible dish and this was no exception. Crust was light and crispy. All the vegetables were seasoned so well. - Gnocchi Bianca: 9.5/10 Beautiful. Delicious. Gnocchi was perfectly cooked with a soft, pillowy texture. Sauce was creamy and not too salty even with the smoked bacon. - Pumpkin cheesecake: 8/10 Texture wasn't too heavy. Flavor wasn't overbearing. Whipped cream was thicker than expected - but its flavor was decadent without being too much. Great taste. Wonderful experience overall. Highly recommend.

Slap on your sparkly dress and a pair of heels (or wear whatever the heck you want) and make your way to Downtown's pink palace! You'll remember this location as the former home of Fu's Repair Shop and Prairie Fish & Chips before that. The Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2024 list named Dolly's as Favourite Patio and the pictures that I've seen of the back terrace look completely adorable, complete with colourful lanterns. Unfortunately, my visit was in October and it wasn't quite patio weather anymore. I turned up on a Friday evening with one of my best girlfriends in tow and we were ready for the biggest Barbiecore night of our lives! Imagine our surprise when we discovered that Dolly's had been transformed into the "Black Lagoon" for the month of October in the spirit of Halloween. (I probably should have looked into this in advance but I was unaware!) I was expecting Cyndi Lauper and Aqua but instead I got Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson. The whole restaurant was draped in the most spider webs that I've ever seen. There were giant spiders hanging from the ceiling and spooky skeletons in every corner. It was a vibe, that's for sure!! But certainly not the one that I had been anticipating. Bits of pink paint and sparkly chandeliers peeked through in some areas and the neon "Dolly's" sign on the wall allowed me to imagine what the Barbie dreamhouse-esque space normally looks like just a little bit. Otherwise, Dolly's was fully transformed into the moody Black Lagoon. I should've worn fishnets instead of glitter. The servers were all very friendly and we were quickly seated at a comfortable table along the hot pink velour banquette. Dolly's invites you to sip, snack, and stay in their minor-free glamorous escape. The house cocktails and mocktails are a major part of the experience (it is a cocktail bar after all) and I was excited to get a cute pink beverage into my hand! There was also a menu of Black Lagoon-themed cocktails that were all served in fun tiki-style vessels. This menu included themed foods as well. I personally had my eye on the Pink Palace Royale cocktail which I saw on the menu online. Made with a special collab gin with Strathcona Spirits and Licor 43 (one of my favourite liqueurs), this sounded like everything that I wanted in a cocktail and more! Other drinks had names like Dolly's Dreamhouse, Bubbilicious, and the house shot was called the Bend & Snap - exactly the sort of drinks that I had come for! However, I was sorely disappointed when the server told me that the drink I wanted was no longer on the menu. It seemed that I could only order a Halloween beverage. I fumbled to find anything that Elle Woods would approve of and settled on a mocktail called Pretty in Pink (Strawberry, cream of coconut, lime, soda, mint - $9.00) and the server suggested that the bar could add vanilla vodka to turn it into a proper cocktail. I agreed. Honestly, I was just relieved to get something pink onto the table! I enjoyed this icy-fresh cocktail a lot and it delivered most of what I had been hoping for. The sweetness of the strawberry and coconut was really fun! The lime and mint added a mojito flair. A very cute and well-composed beverage but I was sad that most of the girly drinks didn't seem to be available. When it comes to eats at Dolly's the food is what you would expect to see at a party, with the idea of sharing at the heart. I loved the idea of Dolly's Funhouse (which is an epic plate of nachos), and dishes like wings, tacos, and mac & cheese. However, the dish to order at Dolly's has gotta be the Girl Dinner (Truffle tots, chickie tendies, aji verde, aji rocoto, pineapple sweet & sour, Dolly's salad - $50.00 for two). It's a must-share so grab your girlies and prepare to chow down! They had me at tots. The Girl Dinner platter arrived looking extremely appetizing and somehow exactly what I wanted to be eating in a place that looked like this. The portion was exactly right for two people and I loved the pretty floral printed plates that we were given to dish our tots and tendies onto. As previously mentioned, I enjoy a tot. (I have a suspicion that Napoleon Dynamite really imprinted on me.) But truffle tots? Now that's just a home run! Topped with sea salt, truffle oil, and parmesan cheese, these golden potato nuggets were fried to perfection with a crispy outside and a soft and fluffy inside. I could have eaten them all. They were awesome to dunk into each of the sauces and when the rest of the food was gone we were still popping tots into our mouths. We couldn't even finish them all because the portion was so generous! The star of the meal were the chickie tendies; two giant chicken tenders, of which we each got our own. I loved this chicken! The batter was really flavourful and unique, and oh so crispy-crunchy. The chicken within was very tender and juicy, proving that an elevated chicke
