Stopped by the Browns Socialhouse on a weekday evening for a late dinner around 7:15 PM. Even though it was later, there was still a good amount of tables seemingly chatting away with mostly ordering drinks and some with food as well. However, there were still several tables available though for a quick seating. Though we got sat pretty quickly, we didn't put in our food orders until 15 minutes later after we had been sat. Initially, our server came to check up on us the first time after 5 minutes but didn't show up again until the 15 minute mark to take our order. Our orders itself took roughly 45 minutes to come out and we were not checked up on during this time. When the food itself came, most of the food was just slightly above room temperature and not hot. This experience made us feel like we were eating because we were hungry but not because we enjoyed the food. It was also disappointing as well since the prices here are definitely pricier but didn't reflect in the quality of food and service. The ambiance of the restaurant is dark and trendy making it seem like a go to place for people to come for drinks. It seems like this is a better place to come to chat and drink with friends than really get a quality meal. read more

First time and absolutely love this location. I booked a reservation on yelp for 4 on Mother's Day, got seated at a corner booth (I recommended) was greeted by friendly staff. Our waitress was wonderful. She Informed us it was "social hour" apps n drinks were discounted. Everything we ordered was delicious, drinks were amazing. My mom who is 80 years old and can be very picky, enjoyed the fish n chips. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo omg was so so good, I was raving about my entree and how awesome it was that even my mom started eating off my plate after she finished hers. Staff were friendly and we got a water refill halfway through the meal. I got the Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich - house salad was 10/10. Chicken itself was much larger than I expected which was a plus. Fairly crispy but I think could have been a touch more so. Not spicy really at all. Bun was soft and not soggy. Bacon was nice. Cheese on top of the chicken was great flavor addition. Overall 9/10. Friend got the Kung Pao Lettuce Wraps. Loved it but said it was quite spicy even without the side of Kung Pao sauce. Giant 1/2 head of lettuce was cool to see as well. Friend got the blackened chicken alfredo 1/2 order. Was a perfect portion for 1 person who does not have a large appetite. Our server was Sarah. She promptly came over to our table to ask us for drinks. When we got there it wasn't as busy as I had expected it. But eventually it got busier. Sarah was very attentive and kind. She was a lovely server. We ordered Seared Ahi Tuna salad and it was wonderful. I've had it before at a different location, this location had a rub on the tuna that made it so much tastier!!!! This was a hit for both of us. Had dinner tonight with 2 friends and we were treated terribly. My friend ordered the dragon bowl and she ate only half because the bottom was burnt. The server came by once to do a quality check and when she came at the end to ask if my friend wanted a box, she explained that the rest was not edible. When the bills came, we questioned why there wasn't a discount on her meal as half was too burnt to eat and the server said the food looked normal to her and that many people try to scam for a free meal so they weren't going to do anything. We asked to speak to a manager who was even more rude to us. We had already paid and wanted her to understand the situation but instead she continued to insinuate that my friend was trying to steal a free meal. Having worked in the restaurant industry for 9 years, I was astonished by the treatment, not only verbally but also through her tone and body language. She did nothing to deescalate the situation and/or say anything to make us feel heard and/or valued. What should have been a quick apology and small token of appreciation turned into a young girl throwing her attitude around. The girls need some more training on proper customer service and overall communication skills. We will never be back. read more

I've been here twice in the past month or so with coworkers. Each visit was pleasant and the food was good. Some hits and some that were just okay but no misses - bonus! I'd really like to come back in the evening and chill in the lounge area out front - love the décor and lots of seating options. This place is super cute in a skull and cross bones sort of way! LOVE love LOVE the Tuna Tataki salad - I'd order this again and again. The tuna is pan seared on the edge and rolled in lemongrass. YES, lemongrass - sooooo freaking good! The calamari had fried jalapenos which was a nice touch but our calamari was super greasy - felt like it had been double fried? A tad overdone but I've had much worse. We still gobbled it up. The Dynamite Roll here was different and the dipping sauce was not traditional - definitely put their own twist on it with ginger and yummy goodness. The rice was weird though that day, did NOT feel like sushi rice and fell apart when we picked it up. It was missing the stickiness to hold it together. I mentioned this to our server and she said depending on which sous chef is on, it's a hit or miss if the rice is sushi rice. I haven't ordered a burger here yet but several of my companions RAVE about the house french fries. Like they would fight over leftovers on someone's plate delicious! Another coworker had the deconstructed blackened chicken ceasar salad and that looked delicious as well! The bacon was not the crumbled variety but resembled properly cooked strips that were cut thinly - really nice. The nachos are a little different here as well with corn and crumbled cheese - queso. Quite good. We asked for extra salsa as there was 3 of us sharing the little bowl and there was an upcharge - not a big deal but I do think it's good practice for the server to advise when you are being upcharged and we didn't know until the bill. The To Go or Doggy Bags here are adorable with the cross bone skull on one side and EAT in giant letters on the other. Two Thumbs Up for Browns! I will most definitely be back. read more

Still my fave place to meet up with friends for eats or drinks. Have always got great service and during Covid they have all safe precautions in place. Once had a drink take over 10 minutes (we didn't even noticed or care since we were all busy chatting), and the manager came over and apologized and offered them on the house! Went here for happy hour with some friends. It was beautiful inside. Love all the fire places. There is also a lovely patio area that must be wonderful in the summer. Our server was courteous, professional and prompt. Really good menu. Lots of variety that people that are polar opposites when ordering (ie my husband and I) can find something to eat and both be happy. I had a social hour soda which was delicious and refreshing and a good bang for your buck. I also had the happy hour southwest salad (no chicken or cheese included in this one) and I had an ahi tuna taco. I wasn't expecting much from a chain restaurant, but I have to say that I was really impressed. The ahi tuna taco is just as good as any one I have had in the city. Might have been skimpy on the tuna, but the flavours were fresh and complementary...and the taco didn't fall into pieces while I was eating it. The salad was lovely. Great combination of textures and tastes. I will come here again, particularly for the interesting "bowls" they have (think Icelandic cod, southwest, crispy fried chicken ramen). read more

The restaurant was surprisingly kid friendly as from the outside I always assumed it was more a pub type establishment. The menu was on the slightly pricier side with food comparable to other restaurants of the same caliber. I tried their wicked Thai soup with ceasar salad and garlic bread. Everything was tasty and cooked to perfection. The restaurant was very modernly decorated and offers a great ambience for chatting/catching up with a friend. The service was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this location to others and you might find me here or at another Browns Socialhouse location in the very near future! read more

Found gluten free options here for spouse who is celiac ! They do take care to avoid contamination ! But price is a bit high ! The happy hour special had flavoured vodka ( which may contain gluten ) but to substitute to reg vodka price reverts to regular price ! That's ok I notice a Canadian Brewhouse opening across the road their prices are way more reasonable , with Gluten Free options ! read more

I just went here for happy hour to support a restaurant I used to love going to prior COVID and thought since I am vaccinated I would support them as I know restaurants need support during these difficult and crazy times I will NEVER go to the Manning Browns again.... I ordered the small nachos with just cheese..... took every other ingredient enough and they actually charged me 3.25 for extra cheese... and when mentioned to the waitress ... she acted like she had no idea... she should have been taking that off since I took off all the other pricey toppings ... And ... we had fun watching the manager flirt with all the young waitresses ... LOVE this location...I feel like I am downtown having lunch rather than in the middle of a new development of residentialville! This restaurant has style, great food and it has unique appeal for the works for the masses. We had a work lunch here with 10+ and the staff had no problem accommodating our meals with special requests all while on a quick turn around. The meals all had an interesting spin to their serving style or introduced a small change to a typical recipe. I had the Caesar salad which was served separated and an avocado...sounds bizarre but it worked well and felt really upscale at a good price. My friends all seemed to enjoy their meals as well with the minor exception of a pasta dish. The ladies who ordered it had gotten a whole order and a half order but it was super hard to tell the difference in anything but the price . The meal still included a full chicken breast and a slice of bread with just a slight amount more of pasta...likely happens more often than we notice. read more

We have been here twice and both times were decent. The margarita pizza is great, but very inconsistent. One time there was only 1 basil per slice the next time. However the dynamite roll is always amazing! I am a fish taco snob. And I wasn't a huge fan. But it was still good. The beef dip though was very good. Get the havariti and extra mushrooms! The social red is really good! Give it a try. The service was good. However I do not like being put at a long table beside other people. I've been here once before in Kelowna and it was fine so my wife and I decided to go to the location in Edmonton. I ordered a chicken sandwich with fries and gravy. I ordered my sandwich with lettuce and tomato only. It ended up coming with cheese so I sent it back. It returned not more than a minute later still sizzling from the fryer. I took a bite and I was thrown off immediately, something was not right with this burger. After taking a closer inspection I realized they peeled the cheese off the previous burger and re-fried it hoping I wouldn't notice. The fries were also undercooked and the gravy was disgusting. My wife also did not enjoy her dragon chicken bowl. Overall terrible experience. We won't be back. read more

I was excited to check out Browns but sadly all the excitement is gone. I don't get the hype. Having gone 3 times at different times of the day/week I have been overall pleased with the service, the decor is attractive but the food was disappointing every time. Be it a burger, a salad, or a rice bowl it was just OK. The menu on paper looks fresh and imaginative but once you order what comes out is such standard fare. For example the #28 Dragon Bowl looked awesome when others had it but when I tried it the coconut rice was undetectable, the flavours were flat and the spicy yogurt was only put on half of the dish. I started eating on the wrong side so half of the dish was flovourless. The fish tacos were overdone, the burger was plain (although the bun was amazing I fly soft). You get the idea. When you are paying in the $15-20 range for a dish you expect better. read more

While I enjoyed my visit here, I wasn't blown away. The food was great- and I really mean that, but I was not thrilled with the service or drinks. I went with my mom on a weekday around 12PM and there was no wait for a table which was nice. The atmosphere inside is quite lovely and updated with a range of higher tables and lower tables for both small and large parties. I thought, okay, this is going to be really nice. I was correct in some ways but wrong in others. We ordered drinks, mine being a G&T and my mother getting a wine. They were pricey but not bad. Her wine was fine, but my gin and tonic tasted (I'm not even joking) like pool water. Gin and tonics are the only thing I drink and I've had a lot of them, some being better than others. But this one was absolutely horrendous. I notified the waitress after trying to flag her down for about 10 minutes and she said that they're in the middle of fixing the soda thing. Well, okay, would have been nice to know before I ordered it. She took it away and replaced it and it was fine the second time around. Just kind of unusual. She wasn't overly apologetic about it either, but rather just kind of shrugged it off which was a bummer. Anyways, we ordered a poutine and a margherita pizza to share. Both were great but it was overpriced for the quality of the food we received. I feel like we could have gone to a cheaper restaurant and gotten essentially the same thing. I'd like to go back and try other things on the menu, but being a broke student I probably won't be jumping hurdles to return. read more

The food was good though... everyone at my table was quite satisfied with their choice. I went with the Cajun Chicken Ceasar Salad. The chicken and bacon were really delicious... but the salad dressing was really bland. I was focusing mostly on the meat in this "salad". The service was great though - she kept all the beverages full throughout the meal, which was nice. My biggest issue is that we went for lunch on a Friday and beginning to end we were there for a little over an hour. That's really not acceptable during the week! We decided to try this location on Manning after good experiences with their South Side restaurant. We just so happened to make it during Happy Hour which was a bonus!! We didn't have to wait to be seated, the washroom was clean and maintained and the food was satisfactory. However, waiting staff needs improvement. Our waitress was absent most of our dining experience, failed to refill our beverages or rectify an error from the kitchen. I've been coming to Brown's longer than 2 years. Started coming to this location when I moved last year. The menu is great. Lots to choose from. We ordered nachos and they were amazing, super authentic and high quality ingredients. We tried a few new drinks that were recommended by our server and they were great!!! Went online to view the menu and specials before choosing to dine at the Manning location. The internet menu stated that bottles of wine were $10 dollars off on Saturdays. When we arrived and ordered a bottle of wine before dinner, the manager refused to honour the $10 discount on their website menu. He said the online menu was out of date and wouldn't give us the online price for the wine. For his $10 discount that he refused to honour, he has lost 4 customers who will never dine at there again.
