Reasonable price; good food; great server; relaxed atmosphere;Thursdays Craft Beer for $6. Perfect for a casual get together.

Nice place, they don't really care about your personal dining experience. Unfortunately, they seem to be concerned about "turning over tables" quickly. This restaurant, even before you sit down, tells you that your table is reserved 5 1/2 hours later (sometimes they inform you it's reserved for the next day). Very strange, I guess they want you gone even before you sit down. At first, I thought our group got that special treatment, but no, the hostess makes sure every group shares in the awkward experience. This whole interaction sets the vibe for the service to follow, and yes, it's very strange. It's like the restaurant wants your business, but then doesn't want you even there. Interesting business operations plan. The food is alright, a little overpriced for the actual quality you are getting. Personally, avoid this place, it pretends to be sort of high-end, but it has ghetto service. Go to Earls instead, a restaurant that actually wants your business. read more

Really liked the place! My friends and I were there on Piano show. The evening was wonderful. The ticket was included into the receipt. The service, drinks and food were great! Will definitely visit again. read more

Easy to find via Google Maps. Only 10% full Monday night at 6:30PM. Brother made reservations but that was unnecessary per the lack of customers. Nice place, feels more upscale, more romantic. Nice patio too but it was going to rain so we opted to sit inside. Tried the Crispy Pickles. For $11 they were reasonably priced. Enough for 4 people as a small snack. Nice light batter, did not taste too greasy. Lovely dill dip. 9/10. I got the Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich with yam fries. Yam fries were 10/10 - super crispy, well salted. Chicken sandwich was a moist and well cooked but not very flavorful. Liked the honey taste. Not enough slaw in my opinion but the garlic mayo was nice. Bun was super soft and fresh. Overall not the best or worst chicken sandwich. 8/10. Friend got the Cure. Fries were cooked well. Bottom ones were a touch extra salty they reported. gravy was very nice and light. poached eggs were WAY overcooked and totally hard boiled. Friend got the Central Breakfast sandwich. Liked this. Egg was still a touch runny which was expected and desired. Too bad it does not come with any sides so friend was hungry after. Dessert we tried the House-made doughnuts. Tasted fresh (not piping hot htough). Cinnamon sugar coating was nice. Very doughy but not raw. Dip was super watery and tasteless. Would have preferred more smaller donuts to increase how much sugar topping you get per bite. Overall I would not get again as they were pretty meh. read more

On a weekday after the lunch rush, it was good to see the restaurant had patrons. The booth table we were seated has ample space and not cramped. Also, the traffic around the table wasn't busy. After viewing the menu on their website, nothing really appealed to me and decided on the ginger chicken rice bowl ($17). The food didn't seem to take too long to arrive. The soy ginger chicken was sauced up with miso mayo and I should have asked for it on the side as I'm not a big spice and mayo on my chicken. The rice bowl was as I expected and not fantastic but ok. The server was attentive to replace our drinks and check on us. It was also nice that the restaurant wasn't too loud from other patrons. read more

I've been back to Central Social a half dozen times since my last review and they have continued to improve. This review is for Downtown Dining Week 2018 Lunch edition (although this is the St. A location not YEG - they offered the same special set menu). Came out with the whole fam jam - Yes, kids can eat here before 8pm! And the have a fabulous kids menu, too! There were two starters, two mains, and a dessert option on the set Lunch menu for $18. My date and I chose one of each. Course 1: Kale Caesar Salad or Mayan Chowder - red peppers, potatoes, carrots, corn, cream, Mexican spices & Valentina. Both starters were excellent. The salad was so big on the little plate that it literally jumped onto the table as you tried to load any onto you fork, lol. Flavour was excellent and really enjoyed that kale was thrown into the mix. The soup was good - though I didn't get the chowder vibe from the bowl that I had. Flavour was delish however! Course 2: Roasted mushroom and goat cheese flat bread or Southern pulled pork sandwich - Grainy mustard, garlic mayo, pickled onions, slaw, brioche bun The flatbread had excellent flavour - I always enjoy a Bianca pizza or flatbread but 1/2 of my flatbread was so blackened on the bottom that all I could taste was the charcoal. Our server noticed that we only ate two pieces and inquired - upon showing her the bottoms she said yeah - they should never be that black and she would have a manager see us. We waited 20 minutes for the manager to come by (and to be fair they were slammed for a Wing Friday promotion which we also enjoyed) He explained the flatbread process here and offered to have it remade but said it would likely come out similar (which I honestly didn't understand as my food was BLACK - see pic). We ended up trying a different appetizer from the menu in it's place that was delish. The Southern pulled pork sandwich is HUGE and comes with optional sides (the kids picked French fries of course). I wish I had more room in my tummy at that point because it smelled heavenly but alas we could only manage few bites and took the rest home. But if you are a fan of a meaty Pulled Pork with a modern twist - and if you like mustard, I'd definitely give this a go! The Downtown Dining Week lunch menu finished off with two orders of the made to order cinnamon + powdered sugar doughnuts with rosemary anglaise dip. OH. EM. GEE. My kids didn't want to share any! We've had these before but this time the dipping anglaise was much thinner and almost foamy - it was perfect. If you come here and don't try these, you are missing out! See you soon Central Social, see you soon! read more

I was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease, so it is hard for me to find places that I trust eating at, and that I actually enjoy. Central in St. Albert has always had a place in my heart, but their "Gluten Friendly" menu is not the greatest, and they don't have a dedicated fryer for GF items, so there is not much for a guarantee. That being said, the last two occasions, my husband and I have shared the Garlic Chicken Noodle Salad which has almost zero risk of contamination, and does not have any deepfried ingredients. I get to feel safe eating my salad, and my husband gets his cheap beer and drinks on the weekends. read more

Partial to the perogies + sausage; but then who can resist the kettle chips and dip or the pretzel

Popped in for happy hour on Friday. To both or surprise happy hour on Friday's is free wings until 6pm. When we arrived the place was insane. We were lucky and got two seats at the bar. I prefer sitting at the bar anyways. This place is great to watch the game at or just have a good catch up with a friend. Which is what I was there for. We ordered beer and wings and that's about it. I appreciated the fact that the bartender wasn't on us constantly about how is everything. When our drinks were empty they asked if we wanted another. They were attentive that way. About an hour later the place emptied out. I do find the music way too loud even when there are a ton of people in there. Otherwise I'm happy with the service and food. It's also a really nice place to eat and chill. The washrooms I noticed have all got hand dryers instead of paper towel which I am all for! Save some paper and use the dryer. read more

Good atmosphere, food was fine. They are running some kind of scam with the POS though. Doesn't allow you to select your tip % just skips immediately to the approval page. Ended up leaving way too much of a tip because I gave up fighting the machine. Everyone at my table had the same experience. Figure it out! read more

We tried Central for the first time, it was decent. Our shrimp gyoza was alright, the wasabi cream with it wasn't my fav. However our friends had the tuna appie and said it was the best. Literally the best he wanted to order another to have with supper. The pasta was okay and my protein and greens were good. The wine was good. The manager sent us a bottle because there was an issue with our reservation. There really wasn't so that was a nice / classy move from them we did not expect. The dessert was tasty, for sure. All in all it was a good night. read more

Grabbed an early supper here with my friend the other week. I was surprised how large this place is inside and even more surprised how quiet it was as I'm use to the Jasper Ave location being loud & always packed. As our supper chat went longer than our meal we experienced the lights being dimmed three times over the course of the 2 hours there and the noise going up substantially from the music more than the people (as it still hadn't got that busy). Personally, I'd recommend getting there earlier than later if you actually want to hold meaningful conversations or see your food. There's a huge parking lot and several handicap stalls which already makes this place more accessible to me who can't walk huge distances from a far away parking location (it's why I haven't gone to the Jasper Ave location in a long time). I mentioned how large the place is but I haven't about the seating. There was a good mixture of heights and sizes of tables throughout the place. I also noticed a private room set further back. Washrooms are unique as they are individual washrooms. I spotted 2 each for guys and girls. The washroom, as lovely decorated and clean as it was, I'm not sure how anyone with a wheelchair would access it properly with that door or if there was a line up for use but those using a walker or a cane would be fine. The service was good in the way that our waitress was a huge help deciding on what my friend could eat. That was greatly appreciated by both of us, as I didn't have the energy to move restaurants. We both enjoyed the main part of our meals (sorry I can't remember what kind of chicken sandwich I ordered but take my word for it that it was good enough I'd eat it again) but I found the dip to go with my sweet potato fries to taste bland. Actually only tasted like mayo. If I was really hungry, I would have asked for hot sauce. My friend asked for the sauce that was part of the meal to be separate and she ended up having to scrape her plate to move the pesto sauce to the side. It overpowered the taste of her meal and she wanted to control what she put on her food. What we found really odd was that she had more pesto sauce severed on that same plate in a separate cup like she had asked. For the price of the meal (same range as earls or catcus club), we expected to enjoy all aspects of our meals and I'm sorry to say we can't say that was the case. In conclusion, I think this place would be good for a social gathering for drinks and appies (as they seem to have decent deals for drinks with fairly good pricing and choices for appies) and interesting ideas for upcoming events (like movie night on Valentine's). I wouldn't specifically keep it on my list for dinner options though. read more

If you have a wing craving this is the place I'm in high recommendation of- their Texas dry rub wings are the best wings I've had in the city! The honey garlic are a great addition to any meal too! We've tried so many of their dishes are have thoroughly enjoyed them all. From the perogies to the linguini and chicken, to the mouth watering burgers. High class pub food with some lovely unique options like Mayan chowder and in house made flat bread. There is plenty of parking, this place has a variety of seating too. We even came with a party of 9 without a reservation and they were kind enough to put us up in the reserved section so we could all sit together. Let's talk Desert! The house made donuts are sublime! A definite must try from the menu and the I think it's rosemary dip with them is so fascinating! We've had a chance to meet the managers/owners Jesse and Vance and they were super great guys to chat with and to hear about the direction they are wanting to take the restaurant. A great spot for family or friends for sure! read more

We meet our friends her for drinks about once a month. they've got great burgers. I love the salads. The service is great.

The last time we were here was for the Yelp Elite event in January. I was very happy that the food quality and service was the same as we had received on our previous visit. We brought an out of town guest for some noms and to catch the Jets game. He's a big fan of craft beer, so he was really happy with the selection they had on tap. I had an Alley Cat Aprikat which was delicious and refreshing, he had a stout and hubby had a Belgian Moon. Both guys ordered The Ronald and I got the Jasper Chicken sandwich. Everything was perfectly cooked and very tasty! I'm so epically disappointed I forgot to order those yummy donuts for dessert! Much sadness there. My fault. The service was spot on, no complaints there. As far as ambiance goes, it is kind of loud in there so conversation can be tough. So anyway, I'm gonna have to go back again and get those homemade donuts... read more

Food was delish and service was fantastic. Honey chicken friend sandwich is my favourite but I also love the Brussell sprouts.

This is such a great place to go for a beer with friends. It has a good vibe and they've always got sports on the tvs so you don't miss anything. My wife doesn't love the TVs but I sure do! The burgers are great and beer is always cold. read more

Had been here for drinks before and was quite indifferent about this place. My sister invited Heather and I here for a spur of the moment brunch yesterday so we decided to give their brunch a try. It's a nice, newer spot in St. Albert... really a little too "fancy" for my likes but they did a good job here. I'm a dive bar guy, so take my "fancy" criticism for what it's worth. Service was good, beer selection is good, food was good. We all had a couple of drinks... I had two pints of Granville Island Lionshead Winter Ale (a standing favorite of mine), my sister had two Caesars, and Heather had a Caesar then a vodka - soda. We each ordered brunch... I had the Italian Sausage and Mushroom Skillet , my sis had the Chicken & Waffles, and Heather had The Beautiful Salad. My sister loved her Chicken & Waffles. My skillet was smaller than expected (I was still hungry upon leaving unfortunately) and had too much of their roasted poblano & white cheddar sauce. I would have asked for half the amount or none at all given the chance to do it over. Not a fan of food smothered the way this was. The eggs were done perfectly, the Italian sausage was delicious and the potatoes were crispy and tasty. The sauce was the culprit here. Heather had the same issue with her salad, it was delicious but just had way too much dressing (apple cider vinaigrette). She actually didn't finish her salad due to it being overloaded with dressing. As this may be a trend with the way they serve food here, a bit of advice may be to ask for your sauce or dressing on the side when ordering if you are like us and picky about the amount... My sister discovered she had a $10 off coupon she received somewhere, so we applied it to our bill. Still after tip and applying the discount coupon brunch and two drinks each came out to $103. Fairly expensive brunch for a meal that had room for improvement. read more

Excellent value for money on a Sunday, which had half priced drinks when we went for lunch. The food was ok. I had the Thai noodle salad with chicken. I see the owner replies to a lot of reviews here so, feedback is: - Salad needed more aromatics - Dressing/other ingredients didn't have much tang or acidity, which I think is pretty important in a salad like this - Chicken was not made to order and it showed; wasn't very tender or flavourful (competitors to this restaurant would likely offer freshly made roasted chicken) - A better mix of crunchy/crispy textures throughout would have made for a more interesting mouthfeel It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. Service was very fast/professional and the restaurant itself looks very inviting. Would consider coming back to try it again. read more

This is more like a 2.5 star rating. Went here with my family on Fathers day for brunch. There were 6 adults and a couple of kids in our party. We had a reservation at 11 AM. It's pretty cool you can take kids here for brunch. We were greeted my a friendly male host and shown to our table immediately. We had a nice table on the second level. Our waitress came over and introduced herself to us. She seemed to have a good personality and was friendly. She came back to take our drink orders promptly. Our experience was good up until about now. Keep in mind the restaurant was about half to three quarters full. Not packed by any means. We placed our drink order, and then a few minutes after that we placed our food order. We waited for over 50 minutes for initial drink order to come. We ordered some bellini type drinks and by the time we had them at our table there was virtually no more slush to the drink. It was kind of all mixed together. The cesar that I ordered was all right. It was nothing special. Our food order took nearly an hour and half to arrive. All the food was ok, nothing crazy good to speak of. However, we had 3 orders of eggs benedict at our table, and the eggs were all cooked differently. The eggs for my order were more like boiled yolks. There were no whites to the eggs at all. We notified staff of the lack of white to the eggs and a new side of eggs was brought out. We ordered a couple of sides of toast. We were brought the Elwood (from Blues Brothers) special....toasted, white, dry bread. No butter, jam or anything of the likes was included on the toast or as a side. We had to ask for toast toppings, but were brought some eventually. We asked for ketchup (for our potatoes), and were brought a single metal serving of ketchup. It didn't go far between the 8 of us so we immediately needed more. I go to Central quite often in the winter after beer league hockey with my buddies and find the service quite hit and miss. Sometimes you get great service and other times not so much. This was one of the not so much times. We shared our poor experiences of our brunch with the management near the end of our meal. The management listened to our concerns, apologized and assured us that not how they expect our experience to go while eating there. We anticipated possibly a free round of drinks or one of the eggs benedict to be complimentary. When we asked our server for our final bill, she said there wasn't one. That was quite a surprise as we didn't ask for that and in fact asked for nothing. It seems that some mistakes got recognized and the management took care of everything in the end. A rather nice surprise at the end of our brunch. My family will most likely will be back to give Central another shot at brunch and see how it goes next time. read more

Food used to be decent and good value. Now mediocre and expensive (Earl's breakfast is $5 cheaper and far better). Service terrible. Came for weekend brunch - got one menu for three people. I went on a Saturday night and it was very busy. We didn't eat food even though their kitchen is open till 2am. The first thing you notice is how loud it is. Music that was cranked up so high that it forced everyone to yell at the top of their lungs to speak with someone right beside you. They clearly want it that way so there's no point trying to get them to lower it. The construction of the place is interesting. The massive bar in the middle of the room is definitely a gathering place but when its a busy Saturday it makes it challenging to get around because there us very little space in the isles. The bathrooms are little individual stalls that I believe are unisex. Due to the volume of young kids in the bar they had a bouncer managing the bathroom line and directing traffic to each stall as it became available. A true waste of manpower. Finally the servers were all new so ordering drinks was quite the ordeal. I ordered 6 of the same shots and the server only brought 3. When she brought the other 3 to the table they were different then the first 3. Haha. They have 23 beer lines and our server was so new she didn't have a clue what was in them and they didn't have a menu with all the options either. Not the best way to market your products. Finally the bouncers were quite rude. They don't make any effort to make you feel welcome which is unfortunate since this is a brand new location and first impressions go a long way. This location is within crawling distance from my place so I will be back to try the food and see if the experience is any better on weekday vs the weekend. read more

Have come back to this location a couple times now and have been pleasantly surprised that the previous issues have been rectified. Faves include: Spanish Bulldog with orange juice in it and found it to be fabulous. I'd recommend this anytime of day including brunch. Steak sandwich though it tends to come cooked a little more well than you ordered. Tuna Tataki is a great meal - not just a starter. Seriously - this is a regular for us. So if you're looking for a place to grab a pint and watch a sporting event on the tv this place has a great atmosphere for that. If you are someone who has dietary issues such as celiac, this is really not the right place to grab a meal. The menu is not marked for gluten but our waitress did go over what few items could be modified. One would hope a salad could be made gluten free but that does not seem to be the case. The portions for the other dishes seem to be on the smaller or just about average size. To receive one piece of chicken cut into two pieces for the chicken and waffles was underwhelming. It was nice of them to add in a lot of the cranberry compote to try to make up for the lack of chicken. Come in and enjoy a pint but that's about it. read more

Happened to be in St. Albert and decided to give this place a try. We sat ourselves next to the patio. They were not very busy and it took a long time to receive the drinks we ordered. I was timing on my phone to see how long it would take for them to come back and see if we wanted something to eat - 15 minutes passed and we were just about to get up and go to the bar to pay for our drinks and leave. I have ate here many times and had plenty of drinks over the years and they have always turned out well. I recently ordered skip the dishes and we ordered about 70 dollars worth of food. I ordered the Ronald burger and when it arrived, I took a bite out of it and it was very undercooked. Dealing with skip the dishes customer service is like having teeth pulled. I opted to call them directly and they were very professional and apologetic for the mishap. The manager offered to replace the burger no problem and drove it out with a thank you note. A bunch of us decided to head here after beer fest for some food and because we all haven't been yet. It was around 930 in the evening. They have an alright selection of drinks to choose from. The fries and cactus cuts(or burnt cuts) were so salty it was so bad it was hard to eat. I ordered the fish tacos and they weren't the best. Local is still the top choice for fish tacos. Much better and way better priced. I had two small fish tacos with no sides for $13. Bit pricey if you ask me. Our server wasn't paying much attention to us as there was another table she had with a group of young guys so her attention was mostly on them. She first brought out two dishes and the three remaining dishes were brought out by someone else about 5 minutes later and just left on the table, didn't even ask who was having what to put it directly in front of them like normal. One of our guy friends was wearing his hat backwards which he does all the time and apparently after 10pm it's forbidden to wear your hat like that so he was told very rudely by a "security guard" to turn it around.
