This has been our go to birthday celebration place as we go after 9 pm and can enjoy all the great eats and drinks for happy hour. We make a reservation since we have a larger party and then text and called to confirm. The seating was half chairs and have sofa like. The happy hour menu has a variety of drinks and some cheap eats. I've tried the sushi taco, pizza, and yam fries and all were good. Also, they provided the birthday person a free dessert which was nice. Our server was friendly and the wait for food didn't seem too long but we were chatting so I lost track of time. The only thing was the lighting got darker and it was a bit too dark. I would definitely consider coming back again for late night eats! read more

I stopped in at Earls last night and ended up having one of the best surprises of my week: an absolutely beautiful Alfredo crafted by the panfry cook, Hanad. A. If you've ever wondered what passion in a pan tastes like, this is it. It came out piping hot, perfectly tossed, and plated with clean, confident simplicity. You can tell Hanad A. takes real pride in his craft -- it shows in every bite. Celebrated our Anniversary dinner at Earls on July 1. The service was fantastic, a cute touch was the card on the table when we arrived, (we had booked a reservation). We had Oysters and Ahi tuna as starters, they were fantastic! My husband had the blackened chicken, and I had the truffle Parmesan chicken. Great portion sizes, and delicious. Youngest Slowest Staff Do not head to the patio, even if it's open. They will forget you. Go, if you've much time to spare and don't mind waiting, and waiting, for your drink and food. Even after trying to pay at the front' speaking to the manager and asking to pay. The staff continued to make me wait' while they got it together. I love Earls. It's a solid go-to for us. First time at this location. Today we were there with a group of TWENTY people. They had two servers tend to us, and overall they did a pretty good job managing our table. Food took an hour and twenty to come out; but I feel like considering the size of the group that's pretty good. The servers were more than pleasant dealing with so many of us, and they were kind enough to do separate bills at the end, which I really didn't expect at all. I caused a mishap at the table we were dining at and consequently had the table "malfunction" in a weird way. Izzy the manager rushed over and asked if we were al okay and if anyone was hurt, I assured her the only damage was my pride and we were all okay. Her professionalism and obvious concern were more than evident and we were all collectively impressed with the way Izzy as well as the entire staff handled our situation. Chances are, you've been to Earls before. These places are everywhere. One thing about eating about a chain is the consistency of the food, and that definitely holds true here. Parking is plentiful as this is Edmonton after all. The interior is quite consistent with most other locations, with the dark wood and dim lighting. I had the steak with mushrooms, and it was good. I was there for happy hour on a Friday. It was quiet but still plenty of staff to serve you and they were attentive and friendly. I had the steak frites. I was able to change the fries to mashed potatoes which was great and there was no additional charge for it. However, the gravy to go with the mashed potatoes came with a $2 price tag which i do not agree on. I think the gravy should always be included. Nevertheless, i will come back. ***update*** we went back to Earls again and it was a much better experience. The food tasted much better this time around and the service was much better as well. We didn't have to wait long for anything and all our food was brought out in a timely manner. I would highly recommend the Cajun chicken sandwich and the bacon cheese burger. The manager was very kind and able to help my selection for wine. ----------------------------------- This is the first time I've been to this location for over 4 years. When we got there it was absolutely dead. Only one other table in the dining area. The waitress was good to begin with. Came by regularly. We ordered wings to start and our food at the same time. The wings weren't really what I had expected for being Thai. They tasted more soya sauce than anything. After a few minutes of being finished with the wings they brought our entree. Well, I had ordered the quinoa and avocado bowl with garlic chicken. When I got my food there was no chicken included. I had to sit and wait for about 5-8 minutes before our waitress showed up to ask how everything was and if it's what we ordered. When she brought my chicken it was not garlic at all. Then when we were finished we waited another 10 minutes before they took our plates and we asked for our bill. After the bill was brought it took another 15 minutes for a manager to bring us the debit machine. It was after she saw our 6 month old getting crabby and us looking uncomfortable. Earls was never a favorite of mine growing up. It always seemed pretentious and snooty when I was in University. Now when I walk in it feels just right. Have I grown up? I usually love going to Earls, but this experience was atrocious. We arrived at 630 and were seated in the bar. It was about 10 minutes to get drinks and another 10 before we could order. We ordered our food and then were basically abandoned for an hour. Our drinks were refilled, but my friends ended up with a weird floaty in it. There was so much ice it was basically a two sip drink. We had no update on our food for an hour, and when we finally got one it was that our food was just being plated. We received our food and it was dead cold. My chicken sandwich was soggy at the bottom from sitting and the fries were cold to the touch. My friend, who ordered a bacon cheeseburger with no bun due to a gluten allergy, received a basic patty on lettuce with some mustard and mayo on the side. No bacon, no cheese, no vegetables. My friend with chicken fingers had none of the sides or sauces she ordered. We didn't see the server until we were nearly done. In the end, the lack of service and the poor food made me decide not to return here. I may try another location, but not anytime soon. I couldn't even find a survey on the bill. read more

My husband and I have found Earls late night happy hour to be a very enjoyable treat. We usually come in on Tuesday evenings at 9:15. Half price bottles of wine and a good selection of menu items on the happy hour menu makes it worth dining out. We usually go to the west Edmonton location and have always had very good service. The food at Earls is always quite predictable but still very good. An example of our order is: my husband-coconut Hawaiian shrimp and garlic fries. Me-two chicken tacos and fries. The food runners and the server seemed to not really know what was going on or whose food went where... therefor I think they gave me the wrong dish. I've never had a good experience with Earls. Their food and atmosphere are very underwhelming, and it does not matter which location it is. The staff are also very inconsistent. They rarely came to the table, and when I wanted ketchup for my fries, there was no one in sight. Different waitresses bought my orders that in the end, I did not know who my server was. Their 'patio' is useless during the summer. They blocked everything off with metal sheets, perhaps for privacy reasons, but what's the point of that? I feel like an animal boxed up. The music they play here is horrible. It's loud and better suited for a sports pub, not a restaurant. I like the furniture pieces they put on their main floor, however I feel that the tables are too large, and can make you lean in awkwardly, especially if you want an intimate conversation. Their food is very underwhelming as well. Their chicken has usually been bland, and the sides for my company and I arrived cold. We've been to this Earl's location a handful of times and it's always consistent - both in food quality and friendly staff. Service is good, food is tasty, nothing to complain about. We recently picked up Earl's Groceries during the covid-19 pandemic which we thought was a great way for them to pivot and provide useful services while keeping their supply chain going. It was a pretty great deal. We got a veggie pack, dairy pack, protein pack, pizza kit and earl's pan bread kit. The protein pack, for example, was $99 for two big racks of seasoned ribs, 4 45 day aged steaks, 4 salmon fillets and 6 burger patties. All uncooked and packaged well enough that we were able to put it right in the freezer. The build your own pizza kit was phenomenal! $25 and comes with 4 balls of fresh dough (for 4 12 inch pizzas), pizza sauce, mozzarella, basil, olive oil, Parmesan and we added salami ($5). It was really delicious. Would definitely get again. read more

Every time I come here, the menu never disappoints. It's consistent and consistently good! To top off the yummy food, the drinks are always delicious as well. They have specials every day of the week and a great happy hour menu from mon-fri until 6pm. I love their creative fusion style cuisine and the atmosphere is always welcoming and great for a group or just for laid back date night. The service is never lacking but I think it depends on who you get... They do have a great patio for the warmer months as well to go with those amazing cocktails. The only thing I wish they would do is expand their menu just ever so slightly. Earls is definitely one of those places where you pretty much know what you're getting immediately cause the choices are limited. Earl's isn't usually my first pick but if friends request to meet here I won't usually protest. This location is pretty spacious with a large dining area inside and a large patio in the front, which was actually quite perfect for the sunny afternoon I ate here recently. A bunch of hostesses wait by the doors and open them for you as you approach, which was different for me and caught me off guard. They are all young and giggly in short, fitted black dresses (no surprise there). We didn't have to wait long for our food but I unfortunately found a long hair in my pasta, right after our waitress had brought our food. My friend said it couldn't possibly be mine because the hair was tangled in between the pasta, and I agreed. As I was gingerly pulling the hair out with my fork and debating my next move, our waitress came by at that exact moment and gasped, saying she would take the dish back and bring me a new one. I felt pretty uneasy but grateful. The manager came by a few minutes later and apologized sincerely to us, offering to bring bread and dipping sauce while we waited. He also offered to reheat my friend's plate so that it wasn't cold by the time mine came out again. My second dish was fine and actually tasted delicious -- I highly recommend the Mediterranean linguine with chicken. The spicy olive oil is mild enough for those who don't like too much spice but gives it just enough kick, and the kalamata olives are the perfect touch. My friend and I split the sticky toffee pudding, which was amazing, I only wished I was able to finish it. In the end they didn't charge me for my entrée due to the incident, which was nice of them since not all establishments do that. The staff seemed sincerely apologetic and seemed like they wanted us to enjoy our dinner. I appreciated the efforts in customer service at this location. read more

My visit to Earls was really underwhelming. I went here for my birthday, so I was anticipating some really yummy food. I ordered the roasted chicken, and what I got was totally different than what I was expecting. It came with two overcooked pieces of white meat, tasteless carrots, and dried-out roasted potatoes. There was no sauce or gravy either, and that is surprising, because most restaurants serve this type of dish with some kind of flavour. Actually, I think it was supposed to come with sauce, but I didn't get it. This disappointing meal cost me $18. I can go to similar restaurants and get a rotisserie chicken for about the same price. Bottom line is that for the quality of food that Earls serves, it's way overpriced. I do, however, like the atmosphere. It's trendy, young, and classy (yet not fancy). I popped in here for lunch with my mama the other day and I was very impressed with the service. We got a seat really quickly in the lounge and our waitress was really nice and energetic. She disappeared towards the end of the meal when we were trying to pay, but overall she was still great. The food was really good (it was a soup-and-salad kind of day for us) and came out really fast. My favorite things about Earl's is a drink. This drink only appears majestically in its glory in the summer time. This is why I love summer. Until I can purchase some authentic Cachaça mix from Brazil, I will always go to Earl's. Until I build my patio, I will also enjoy the Ellerslie location with their open patio and an ice cold Capirinha. Although the west end location doesn't have an outdoor patio, they do have a nice indoor patio where you can people watch. The waitress wasn't the out of her way type but it was decent service. Earls. I've been here a bunch of times over the years and have always found the food to be mediocre and service a hit or miss. This location was no different. We ordered calamari for appies and I had a burger. Both dishes were so greasy it made me not want to eat it. I understand the calamari is deep fried but if it's good, there is no pool of grease during and after eating it, which is what happened. The burger also included three giant onion rings which were gross. I never pass up onion rings but I couldn't even finish the third one because it just wasn't appetizing. I find it odd to review Earls because living in Alberta, they're kind of an institution by now and we all kind of go there with some frequency it seems. I'll be honest and say I've never once had a bad experience at Earls and I'll bet I've been there 100 times between their various locations. Maybe more. Tonight was a typical experience and pretty indicative of every time I've gone to any Earls. We sat down, were acknowledged and served very quickly, got our drinks, ordered our food, ate it very happily, enjoyed it very much, had more drinks, had even more drinks, got our bill, tipped our waitress very well and left happy. This is kind of their thing - I'm never disappointed, their food doesn't "reach over its pay grade", inasmuch as it's always fresh, delicious and well seasoned but not at all pretentious - and Earls doesn't try to be something it isn't. We have just had the worst dinner we have ever had at Earl's... By a long shot. I ordered the peppercorn steak, my partner ordered the Kunan. We have both had these meals before, MANY times over the years. My 'medium' steak was 'well done', and dry - even by 'well done' standards it was poorly cooked. There was only one vegetable on the plate, which in my experience of eating steak dinner for 35 years in restaurants all over the country, is unheard of. Properly, a chef always offers a minimum of two to three veggies on a plate; one, for colour variety, two, so that everyone gets something they like. I got a plateful of beans. This is just lazy, there is no other word for it. And to top it off, they were hard and bitter. And when I suggested that this wasn't acceptable as a veggie side, I was told I could have other veggies for an extra cost. So, attitude from the kitchen. They are so lucky I did not go ballistic. The Hunan, my partner said, "has half the flavor it usually has". Strike 3. Nothing was done about the cheque either, no extra bit of ice cream with the dessert, no attempt at reparations whatsoever, even after I suggested this might be a managerial issue. Decided to bring the family for diner after a long drive from Jasper. Place is empty, waitresses are slow and disengaged. Ordered the steak and my wife ordered the salmon, and all I can say is the best thing about our food was the side Caesar salad, meat is poor, over cooked and under portioned. I could do better at Denny's. I tried to complain but all I got was an insensitive waitress that just argued. It won't be long before this places closes.
