The menu @ Oui Partake
Daisy Y.

Discovered this nice little gem while trying to find restaurants in the area to eat before we went to a nearby escape room. My friends were a little hesitant eating at a place serving mainly appetizers, but we left feeling really full. We ordered the scallop cru (nice palate cleanser, light and fresh tasting), the banh moi (they did not cheap out on the amount of meat in this sandwich!), the savoury tart (surprisingly good, and not what we were expecting at all), the beef tartare (tasted great, beet barley relish was an interesting touch), and, of course, the french onion soup (which was divine!!!). I would most definitely come back. Walk ins only; we went at 630pm on a Monday and had no issues snagging a booth right away. Service not bad, food came out at a decent pace. Free wifi. Free parking outside if you can snag a spot in the small parking lot.

Partake has been on my radar for a while now, ever since they were a Canada's Best New Restaurants 2019 nominee in enRoute magazine. Opening only a few years ago in Westmount, this little French bistro serves hearty and rustic fare reminiscent of a casual brasserie terrace in Paris. Edmonton has different kinds of French food now?? Yes. We got there, people. Also named as Best of Oliver and 124th Street in CBC Edmonton's Best Restaurants 2019, Best New Restaurant 2020 in Avenue Magazine, as well as being featured on season two of Big Food Bucket List, Partake is easily becoming one of the hottest places in town and everyone wants a piece of it. You'll find Partake in the High Street area, you know, that little area with all of the adorable shops and good restaurants. It's quite an ideal location. Helmed by Chef and owner Cyrilles Koppert, his restaurant is everything that you want a tiny French spot to be, complete with forest green-wrapped leather booths, a gorgeous tin ceiling, and wooden chairs much like the ones that you'll see in cafes in France. There's a sophisticated simplicity about the atmosphere that takes you away just a little bit. To top things off, they have a stunning patio behind the restaurant so that you can truly channel your Parisian al fresco dreams. Think stark white trellises and on-point murals on the building's outer wall. It'll be even more gorgeous in the summer once all of the foliage has come in. A reservation is recommended and our friendly server brought us to the sunny back patio where we happily settled in along with our complimentary serving of delightfully seasoned popcorn. This did not last long. In fact, it was inhaled. A little somethin'-somethin' to kick off the meal is such a nice touch. Next it was drinks and the menu is full of lovely French-inspired cocktails. I was very into the NO. 14 (1800 coconut tequila, maraschino liqueur, Giffard passionfruit, tobasco, almond bitters, espelette - $13.00), described as spicy and tropical. It sounded like the perfect beverage to accompany a patio meal during golden hour. Served in a vintage class, I loved the way that this cocktail managed to be complex and simple all at the same time. Just the right amount of boozy, I enjoyed the sweet fruitiness coupled with a bit of heat. Spicy-sweet is such a dynamite combination. I liked this beverage a lot and I felt very cool drinking it. Very excited to get into the food (and we ordered just about one of everything), I knew exactly where to start. Drake said it best: "I want my chips with the dip, that's all I know." Chips & Dip (House potato chips with aïoli - $5.00). Ultra-crispy, golden, housemade chips with just the right amount of salt. I mean, what more do you need to know? I liked the creamy, mayonnaise-based dip a lot. A very delightful snack! Next, I had to try the Potato (Duchesse with brown butter, herbs, parmesan, aïoli - $8.00). Prepared in the pommes duchesse style, these swirly little pillows had a nice crisp bite on the outside and a fluffy-soft inside. It occurred to me that this dish is actually kind of similar to the chips & dip - just potatoes offered in a different way. They were served with the exact same aïoli as well. I guess it would depend on if you're feeling like crunchy or soft potatoes. Either way, both were wonderful. A must-try for me had to be the French Onion Soup (Swiss cheese gratinéed - $14.00), a dish that I literally ate on a terrace in Paris once, and I was truly hoping to be transported back to that moment. This soup was everything that I dreamed for it to be and more. A deep broth full of sweet caramelized onions and an incredible depth of flavour, a deliciously toasty jumbo-sized crouton, and most importantly, obscene amounts of ultra gooey cheese. There is no fear (or restraint) of cheese at this restaurant, which makes me feel confident in their authentic French sensibilities. Eating this soup is a bit like eating molten lava - but it hurts so good and you keep coming back for more. You must try this wonderfully good version of this classic dish. I ordered the Tarte (Caramelized onions, olive tapenade, anchovy caper spread, fresh tomato - $14.00) at the last second because the ingredients were way up my alley and I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by. The pastry was incredibly light and perfectly flaky with an ideal golden-brown colour. I loved the flavour combination of olive, anchovy and caper - three of my very favourite things. The juicy crushed tomato on top was a great way to bring in some springtime freshness. There really wasn't much for me not to love about this dish and I can picture myself snacking on it again in the future. Time for the main event, the pièce de résistance, if you will. Everyone visits Partake to eat the Croque Mon'soubise' (Classic sandwich with Meuwly's ham, gruyère, sauce soubise for dipping, La Boule bread - $20.00) and I am no different. This sandwich is Partake's interpretation of a croque monsie

Boulettes De Viande is the chef's pork & beef meatballs, green olive tapenade, sauce tomat, gated grana.

It was our Friday date night and friend's recommended this hidden gem. We were pleasantly surprised. From the food to the staff it was just an awesome evening. The complementary garlic parmesan popcorn with our wine was a perfect start. We shared the boulettes de viande, potato, french onion soup, the tarte and finished with mini creme brûlée. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Lovely new French spot on High Street. Very cozy European vibe. We sat at the bar. Very impressed with the liquor selection & drink menu. I had a dark Belgian beer, that was great though I forgot to get the name. We ordered the potato duchesse - they were fluffy and delicate and perfect, the duck confit - THE best, & the French onion soup that was just perfect for a cold winter night. With the tip & drinks for the two of us the bill was only around $100, very reasonable for what was an outstanding meal. They don't take resos but were very friendly and accommodating when I reached out to them on social media about finding a time that would work. Overall a most welcome addition to the alreadyb fantastic 124 St. food scene.

A selection of wonderful food from our last visit to Partake

If there was only one restaurant we could visit in Edmonton, I think we would pick Partake. Although we live nowhere close to this gem at High Street (just off 124th), we make the drive out nearly once a week to have delicious wines poured by Sara and excellent French inspired food from the kitchen. There is always a spectacular salad on the menu, a tarte and excellent desserts. The Mini French Dip when available is amazing, and of course, a must have is the Croque Mon Soubise that was featured on John Catucci's Big Food Bucket List. It is a scrumptious sandwich with Meuwly's ham, Gruyere, sauce soubise and La Boule bread. We can't wait to visit again soon!

Searching for someplace to go for a girls night out on the town? Look no further than Dolly's…read moreCocktail Bar! Slap on your sparkly dress and a pair of heels (or wear whatever the heck you want) and make your way to Downtown's pink palace! You'll remember this location as the former home of Fu's Repair Shop and Prairie Fish & Chips before that. The Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2024 list named Dolly's as Favourite Patio and the pictures that I've seen of the back terrace look completely adorable, complete with colourful lanterns. Unfortunately, my visit was in October and it wasn't quite patio weather anymore. I turned up on a Friday evening with one of my best girlfriends in tow and we were ready for the biggest Barbiecore night of our lives! Imagine our surprise when we discovered that Dolly's had been transformed into the "Black Lagoon" for the month of October in the spirit of Halloween. (I probably should have looked into this in advance but I was unaware!) I was expecting Cyndi Lauper and Aqua but instead I got Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson. The whole restaurant was draped in the most spider webs that I've ever seen. There were giant spiders hanging from the ceiling and spooky skeletons in every corner. It was a vibe, that's for sure!! But certainly not the one that I had been anticipating. Bits of pink paint and sparkly chandeliers peeked through in some areas and the neon "Dolly's" sign on the wall allowed me to imagine what the Barbie dreamhouse-esque space normally looks like just a little bit. Otherwise, Dolly's was fully transformed into the moody Black Lagoon. I should've worn fishnets instead of glitter. The servers were all very friendly and we were quickly seated at a comfortable table along the hot pink velour banquette. Dolly's invites you to sip, snack, and stay in their minor-free glamorous escape. The house cocktails and mocktails are a major part of the experience (it is a cocktail bar after all) and I was excited to get a cute pink beverage into my hand! There was also a menu of Black Lagoon-themed cocktails that were all served in fun tiki-style vessels. This menu included themed foods as well. I personally had my eye on the Pink Palace Royale cocktail which I saw on the menu online. Made with a special collab gin with Strathcona Spirits and Licor 43 (one of my favourite liqueurs), this sounded like everything that I wanted in a cocktail and more! Other drinks had names like Dolly's Dreamhouse, Bubbilicious, and the house shot was called the Bend & Snap - exactly the sort of drinks that I had come for! However, I was sorely disappointed when the server told me that the drink I wanted was no longer on the menu. It seemed that I could only order a Halloween beverage. I fumbled to find anything that Elle Woods would approve of and settled on a mocktail called Pretty in Pink (Strawberry, cream of coconut, lime, soda, mint - $9.00) and the server suggested that the bar could add vanilla vodka to turn it into a proper cocktail. I agreed. Honestly, I was just relieved to get something pink onto the table! I enjoyed this icy-fresh cocktail a lot and it delivered most of what I had been hoping for. The sweetness of the strawberry and coconut was really fun! The lime and mint added a mojito flair. A very cute and well-composed beverage but I was sad that most of the girly drinks didn't seem to be available. When it comes to eats at Dolly's the food is what you would expect to see at a party, with the idea of sharing at the heart. I loved the idea of Dolly's Funhouse (which is an epic plate of nachos), and dishes like wings, tacos, and mac & cheese. However, the dish to order at Dolly's has gotta be the Girl Dinner (Truffle tots, chickie tendies, aji verde, aji rocoto, pineapple sweet & sour, Dolly's salad - $50.00 for two). It's a must-share so grab your girlies and prepare to chow down! They had me at tots. The Girl Dinner platter arrived looking extremely appetizing and somehow exactly what I wanted to be eating in a place that looked like this. The portion was exactly right for two people and I loved the pretty floral printed plates that we were given to dish our tots and tendies onto. As previously mentioned, I enjoy a tot. (I have a suspicion that Napoleon Dynamite really imprinted on me.) But truffle tots? Now that's just a home run! Topped with sea salt, truffle oil, and parmesan cheese, these golden potato nuggets were fried to perfection with a crispy outside and a soft and fluffy inside. I could have eaten them all. They were awesome to dunk into each of the sauces and when the rest of the food was gone we were still popping tots into our mouths. We couldn't even finish them all because the portion was so generous! The star of the meal were the chickie tendies; two giant chicken tenders, of which we each got our own. I loved this chicken! The batter was really flavourful and unique, and oh so crispy-crunchy. The chicken within was very tender and juicy, proving that an elevated chicke

I decided on the Warm Mushroom Salad which contained a Mushroom Medley, with a Shallot, Rose Water, & Elderflower Liqueur Vinaigrette and the Spicy Rigatoni with Habanero Rose Sauce. My husband went with Braised Chuck Flatserved on fresh grits, glazed in demi. Cocktails were carefully crafted and the food came out in a timely manner. Food was excellent. The mushroom salad was full of flavour and cooked properly. The spicy rigatoini was excellent with just enough heat from the habanero sauce. However, the real start was the braised chuck which melted with a tap of the fork. The grits were well cooked and a good accompaniment. We were stuffed but I would like to try thier desserts in the future. Cocktail prices were high but in the same price range as other fancy cocktail bars. The food prices were the same as many other places but with higher quality. Definately try this place out. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Waters were provided as well as a wine bottle-type jug with water in it - too bad the wine bottle is quite dark and the waiter cannot tell when it is empty and needs a refill. We tried: Ricotta Fritters: 7/10, tomato sauce was very overpowering in flavor, corn was very nice. Fritters themselves were very tasty and the ricotta filling was very nice but it gets hidden when eaten with the potent tomato sauce. Broccolini: 9/10, good, good flavor, cooked well just not sure they are worth the price for what you get. Risotto: 6/10, my uncle gave it a 8/10 as he liked it. To me it was pretty bland, could be that the carrot flavor isn't my thing, but just found it underwhelming and lacking flavor (maybe needs more salt too) Texture was very good though. Colcannon Gnocchi: 12/10. This dish was soooo good. Loved the mushroom cream sauce, sour cream, GIANT bacon jam blobs, gnocchi itself had good texture. But combined the flavors were phenomenal. 100% recommend this dish. Unfortunately Amberjack was not available. Herb Marinated Chicken Thighs: Chicken was 9/10 good, good flavor and texture but Brussel sprouts were bad like no one would eat them bad. Undercooked and under seasoned. Little rocks that had a bad taste. Sauce was good to add moisture but was very very bland/tasteless. Overall this fed 3 of us well with no leftovers but also no room for dessert.
