Slap on your sparkly dress and a pair of heels (or wear whatever the heck you want) and make your way to Downtown's pink palace! You'll remember this location as the former home of Fu's Repair Shop and Prairie Fish & Chips before that. The Edmonton Food Faves We Crave 2024 list named Dolly's as Favourite Patio and the pictures that I've seen of the back terrace look completely adorable, complete with colourful lanterns. Unfortunately, my visit was in October and it wasn't quite patio weather anymore. I turned up on a Friday evening with one of my best girlfriends in tow and we were ready for the biggest Barbiecore night of our lives! Imagine our surprise when we discovered that Dolly's had been transformed into the "Black Lagoon" for the month of October in the spirit of Halloween. (I probably should have looked into this in advance but I was unaware!) I was expecting Cyndi Lauper and Aqua but instead I got Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson. The whole restaurant was draped in the most spider webs that I've ever seen. There were giant spiders hanging from the ceiling and spooky skeletons in every corner. It was a vibe, that's for sure!! But certainly not the one that I had been anticipating. Bits of pink paint and sparkly chandeliers peeked through in some areas and the neon "Dolly's" sign on the wall allowed me to imagine what the Barbie dreamhouse-esque space normally looks like just a little bit. Otherwise, Dolly's was fully transformed into the moody Black Lagoon. I should've worn fishnets instead of glitter. The servers were all very friendly and we were quickly seated at a comfortable table along the hot pink velour banquette. Dolly's invites you to sip, snack, and stay in their minor-free glamorous escape. The house cocktails and mocktails are a major part of the experience (it is a cocktail bar after all) and I was excited to get a cute pink beverage into my hand! There was also a menu of Black Lagoon-themed cocktails that were all served in fun tiki-style vessels. This menu included themed foods as well. I personally had my eye on the Pink Palace Royale cocktail which I saw on the menu online. Made with a special collab gin with Strathcona Spirits and Licor 43 (one of my favourite liqueurs), this sounded like everything that I wanted in a cocktail and more! Other drinks had names like Dolly's Dreamhouse, Bubbilicious, and the house shot was called the Bend & Snap - exactly the sort of drinks that I had come for! However, I was sorely disappointed when the server told me that the drink I wanted was no longer on the menu. It seemed that I could only order a Halloween beverage. I fumbled to find anything that Elle Woods would approve of and settled on a mocktail called Pretty in Pink (Strawberry, cream of coconut, lime, soda, mint - $9.00) and the server suggested that the bar could add vanilla vodka to turn it into a proper cocktail. I agreed. Honestly, I was just relieved to get something pink onto the table! I enjoyed this icy-fresh cocktail a lot and it delivered most of what I had been hoping for. The sweetness of the strawberry and coconut was really fun! The lime and mint added a mojito flair. A very cute and well-composed beverage but I was sad that most of the girly drinks didn't seem to be available. When it comes to eats at Dolly's the food is what you would expect to see at a party, with the idea of sharing at the heart. I loved the idea of Dolly's Funhouse (which is an epic plate of nachos), and dishes like wings, tacos, and mac & cheese. However, the dish to order at Dolly's has gotta be the Girl Dinner (Truffle tots, chickie tendies, aji verde, aji rocoto, pineapple sweet & sour, Dolly's salad - $50.00 for two). It's a must-share so grab your girlies and prepare to chow down! They had me at tots. The Girl Dinner platter arrived looking extremely appetizing and somehow exactly what I wanted to be eating in a place that looked like this. The portion was exactly right for two people and I loved the pretty floral printed plates that we were given to dish our tots and tendies onto. As previously mentioned, I enjoy a tot. (I have a suspicion that Napoleon Dynamite really imprinted on me.) But truffle tots? Now that's just a home run! Topped with sea salt, truffle oil, and parmesan cheese, these golden potato nuggets were fried to perfection with a crispy outside and a soft and fluffy inside. I could have eaten them all. They were awesome to dunk into each of the sauces and when the rest of the food was gone we were still popping tots into our mouths. I've been dying to try our this new concept since it opened. It's located right next to the Common and it is such a cute place. Reservations are highly recommended as the space has limited seating. We entered and there is a cute vignette area to take some cute photos. Once you enter into the restaurant everything is pink!! The decor, the furniture, the lighting, everything is a cheery pink hue and the perfect spot for girls night. The menu names are in line with the theme and have some really fun names like the Bend & Snap, Dolly's Dream House, and Live, Laugh, Lavender. We started off with the house signature shot which is the Bend & Snap. It was very refreshing and delicious. Could barely taste any alcohol sensations so it went down very smoothly. It also comes in cute glasses too. For cocktails I tried the Dolly's Dream House which is made with mezcal. I personally loved the smoky yet juicy flavour of this drink but I think perhaps not everyone would care for the taste of mezcal as it is quite powerful. The food here is like small sharing plates which was good enough for us. First off we ordered the huancayo style potatoes and these were a tad spicy, which to me was so delicious. Next up was the empanadas, they have a standard meat filled ones or you can try the daily special which was seafood so we opted for that one. It was full of seafood and was great but I think I prefer the meat ones. For our third dish I asked the server what she recommended and she did not disappoint us! She suggested the crispy roasted pork and mentioned that is not ordered too often but it's like a hidden gem of flavour town. Was she ever right!! The pork was crispy, juicy, and so flavourful. The food is Peruvian inspired which is a unique cuisine for the Edmonton food scene. I would come back to Dolly's just for this crispy pork! So if you're thinking of checking this place out, do it! Dolly's is a fantastic addition to Edmonton's cocktail scene. I love the unapologetically pink decor and the movies projected on the wall, though it was a little hard not to be distracted by Miss Congeniality! For December, they had a special holiday cocktail menu featuring festive flavours like peppermint and eggnog. While those were great, my favourite would have to be the Bubblicious from their regular menu. I was nervous that a bubblegum inspired cocktail would be too sweet but it is well balanced and smooth. The food is surprisingly vegan-friendly for a non-vegan restaurant. My friend and I shared 4 dishes - beyond meat empanadas, locro, patacones and a brussel sprouts special - and all of them were filling and delicious. The patacones are my personal favourite. No issues at all MOST of the time, but when Dolly's holds private events on their outdoor patio, the music is excessively loud and certainly does interfere with the reasonable enjoyment of my own personal space. The City and the AGLC board need to look at how this is managed and consider lowering the legally acceptable db level for outdoor patios for private events with music if that patio is within a certain distance of residences. I resent being told that I need to expect noise if I live downtown. I don't hear any "city noise" that I would consider disruptive (except sirens, but they come and go). If the music is so loud, I can't turn up my TV and/ or radio to drown it out, or I can't have company over because we can't converse over the noise, that's a problem. I don't need quiet when I am sleeping (earplugs), but I DO need to be able to reasonably function during my waking hours. read more

Went for the vibe stayed for the Food. Easily the best new restaurant / cocktail bar in Edmonton. It was a full house so we gave our number and went next door to the common for a drink while we waited. The host was awesome and texted us 10 minutes later and was able to seat the two of us. Innovative menu especially in the Edmonton area. Lot's of great share plates and mains. We love Palm Springs and it definitely brought us back with the emphasis on fresh ingredients and South American influence. We ordered the chicken lollipops which were perfectly cooked and well marinated. I thought they might be messy or awkward to eat but the way they're prepared makes it a really clean accessible hand bite. Highly recommend. Good portion for the price too. Our favourite was the chicken and cheese empanadas which are made in house and came out hot and fresh. The filling was well spiced and pastry top notch. They are served with an ultra fresh zesty little salad akin to a pico. Special mention to the cilantro/lime/chili green sauce. We had several cocktails throughout the evening. Went here on a Friday night at opening. It was still daylight out so that may have altered the ambience as it was really bright inside (prob better after dark)! Had a few drinks and a couple appys. There is a tequila mango drink on the menu that they can make spicy on request, that was really good! The other drink I had was said to be a double but it was in a really small glass and still didn't taste boozy so I don't know if it is actually 2oz you're getting...maybe? The appys were delicious. The high tables are uncomfortable to eat at, and the stools at those tables are really uncomfortable and were wobbly.
