Came here for a quick lunch with my MIL on a furniture buying day. No reservation but we were seated right away. It was 1pm on a Tuesday so I didn't expect it to be busy. Our server was very nice and made sure my MILs food was gluten free. She ordered the Mediterranean bowl and I had the shrimp ravioli. Both were delicious. I loved the beurre blanc sauce on the pasta, and my MIL raved about her food. The actual restaurant is gorgeous with huge chandeliers lots of great booths for seating. It was a while after my last visit. The place is beautiful and well designed! The staff are always friendly and very polite and helpful. Customer service is pretty consistent in all locations. The food has been always great! This time I picked steak and sushi which was a great choice and delicious. The steak was juicy and delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite nice, definitely on the fancier side, and it felt really classy. I would recommend dressing up a little bit, if you want to match the vibes. The food was pretty good, I ordered the Herb Crushed Salmon and it was surprisingly very fresh. It was seasoned simply, considering the name of the dish, but it still tasted really good. Definitely use the lemon if you're looking for a more sour kick. The drinks were also good, a touch on the pricier side, but overall not too ridiculous. The service was on the slower side, which was a bit disappointing. After ordering drinks, the staff took a while to come back to take our food orders. The arrival of said food orders also took a while, so I don't think you should come here when you're super hungry lol. Joey's seemed super promising, even if slightly on the pricier side. It's unfortunate that the main reason for going - to eat - was for us the least satisfying part of this visit. Service at Joey's is great! Starters were served promptly, water was filled regularly, and the entrees came out in a reasonable amount of time. The entrees food were bit more underwhelming. We ordered the Steak Frites (upgraded to the striploin because the server noted that it'd be a fattier and thus more flavorful cut) and the Steak & Ravioli Bianco (also upgraded to the striploin). Was quite amazing actually, the Steak Frites was under-seasoned and just plain and bland. The best part unironically was the salad. The Ravioli Bianco meal however felt like a block of salt in every bite. Totally overpowering and was just a bad balance overall. The overall decor and ambiance is nice. The space is open with a lounge vibe even in the dining room. Great for a trendy night aesthetic. Overall, I don't believe I'd indulge in a full dinner here again. Drinks and happy hour? Sure, they have decent prices for that and the starters were good, but the dinner options we had were certainly not worth it. read more

Always a hit at Joey restaurants. I had a gift card that I received so we came here for happy hour after the stingers game. It was great service and excellent food quality. The vibe in here is casual cool and it was full of people on a Thursday night which was nice to see. We ordered off the happy hour menu, steak frites, Szechuan chicken lettuce wraps, and sushi cones. On of our cones was falling over but the taste was still good. Our steak was cooked to perfection which is always nice to see and the lettuce wraps were crispy, the chicken was so flavourful, we were definitely satisfied with our meal. Overpriced. Food was disappointing. I ordered the lobster ravoli and it was tiny for 30 bucks. I actually had to eat something after I came home. The ravoli was fine but way too little of it and way too much lemon in the lemon cream sauce. Ruined the whole dish. I should have sent it back but I didn't want to create a scene at my friends birthday. My husband's burger was okay at best. It was overcooked and cold. It was sitting in the warming area for awhile. Both of us were super disappointed in the quality of the food, the service which was super spotty and the price point was way overmarked. We only went here because it was the birthday girl's choice but this confirmed why we don't eat here. Go support a local family run business that cares about thier food. Nancy and I felt like a simple steak meal, so we headed over to Joey South Common for their Steak and Frites for $22.50 during Happy Hour ( 2 to 5 PM), also sharing an order of Yam fries to start. Arriving at about 4 PM, we were quickly seated, our friendly and accommodating waitress Shawnee brought us 2 glasses of cold water and a wedge of lemon on request, taking our orders promptly. We were actually quite surprised by the speed of service as the meals arrived in about 10 minutes, along with the order of Yam Fries which we had anticipated nibbling on while we waited for our steaks. The Yam fries came with a dip of spicy aioli and were nicely crisp, but otherwise unremarkable. Nancy's steak, ordered medium rare, arrived a few moments ahead of mine which was ordered rare, the reverse of what I would normally expect as the server apologized stating that mine was still being prepared. Oddly, my steak was very apparently less than the advertised 6 oz (my wife's looked about right), so I have some thoughts that mine may have been overcooked initially and replaced at the last minute with a thinner steak. If this wasn't the case, the kitchen really should monitor more carefully the portioning sizes, but this can be a common issue at some restaurants. Regardless, I didn't feel the need to bring up the issue with the staff. Though the steaks were presented well and came topped with a slice of maitre 'd butter (or maybe just plain garlic butter?), I believe that the chef would do better with a slightly heavier hand with the seasonings as we both found the steaks slightly under seasoned even though we had plenty of fresh ground pepper to top the meat. The experience was "okay" and in keeping with this type of restaurant. Personally, I would save up a few shekels and order a steak at a finer dining establishment, but I really can't fault the service, nor the speed at which we were in and out of Joeys. read more

Joey's is a franchise type of restaurant very similar to moxies or Earls. The restaurant is quite big and spacious. The service was prompt and average. I ordered the tofu bowl which was good. My only issue is that the price is not consistent with the portion or the flavor. I suggest looking at all these aspects so they are consistent. I wouldn't say the menu is anything extraordinary. Overall I wouldn't think of Joey's as a place to go. read more

The ambiance, lighting, and decor is very modern here; with a wooden chandelier, and a wall of wine, it gives it an elegant, yet new age style and look that makes for a great atmosphere and experience. The hostess, server, and porters were steadily coming to the table to make sure all was okay. The food was amazing; the steak was a perfectly done medium grilled, as per request; the asparagus had a juicy, yet tender, crunch; and the salad was fresh with an mouth-wateringly tangy dressing. The service and food are top notch, and I would definitely go again to be able to experience some of the other options on the menu, such as sushi. The washroom is clean, and has some high tech sink apparatus to wash and dry your hands in the same place. All in all, happy to have visited Joey South Common. Will go again! read more

Checked out this restaurant on Friday evening in South Common. Online reservation was not available. Waiting time for Walk-in was around 30 minutes. Finally got a table and we ordered food quickly. Order: Baja Fish Tacos: Fish and Valentina's guacamole wrapped in white corn tortilla topped with cheese. Tacos were too salty and i could not enjoy it. I tried fish tacos from Julio's barrio too but they were far better than this. Hand-pressed Burger: Angus beef with mushroom cheddar and cheddar bacon was also a normal burger, i didn't find anything wow in this burger leaving me quite disappointed. Wait what? How have I not reviewed this location? I know it's a chain, but this is honestly in my top 5 favourite restaurants in the City. The quality is always spot-on and my steak is always cooked perfectly. It's a little noisy in the dinning room, but that adds to the atmosphere I think. I have basically ordered the same thing for about 7 years here and am always happy with my choice. I love that you are offered a glass of wine or champagne while you wait for your table. Service is almost "over the top" good here. On my most recent visit, we were served by a lovely lady named Nikki. She played off the energy of our table perfectly. It's been quite a few years since I've been here. I have only sat in the bar/lounge area, but it still looks trendy inside, albeit a bit dark. The place is still just as packed as I remember, so it's still the place to go après work. The staff are super friendly and attentive. I order the BBQ salmon rice bowl for dinner which I found cooked very well. The salmon piece was quite small but not dry. The garnish on top was fresh and overall the dish was well prepared. My boyfriend and I come here when we're looking for a great meal. It's a typical chain type restaurant but the servers are always welcoming and service is always quick. They give you the option of the dining room or the lounge when you enter. There might be a wait depending on when you go. Happy hour is until 6PM; you can get sliders or sushi cones for 3.50 each which works out to be a pretty good deal! They also have another happy hour after 9. Deals are good for food as well for drinks! I rotate between two menu items; I either get the herb crush salmon or the Joey burger. Let me tell you, the burgers here are my favorite burgers in the city. They beat every fast food place, every upscale restaurant, every burger joint when it comes to burgers. Absolutely delicious. Also, the herb crush salmon is straight up to die for. As is the calamari. What I'm trying to say, is, everything here is great. We've never had a bad meal and we've never had bad service. It can just be quite noisy and busy here, and a lot of the time there are screaming children around. Come later during the week and you'll have a lovely time. read more

It has been years since we've experienced fantastic service like this! We arrived at 11:30 AM on a Thursday, were promptly seated on the patio, and over the next 2.5 hours Amanda took phenomenal care of us! From helping us make sure our order was correct (which involved a nut allergy), visiting us throughout the meal to make sure we were doing just fine, and ensuring that a dessert we've never tried before (the Italian doughnuts) would be worth it (They So Were!) she talked and shared with us and made us feel like kings. We noticed she paid the same attention to every table in her section, and she didn't stop moving the entire time. And yes, our meals were delicious, but when you're made to feel as special when you walked in as when you're enjoying that last sip of coffee and nibble of dessert while finishing your conversation, that speaks to a level of phenomenal service that's rare to find anywhere these days. A friend and I decided to catch up over Friday night over dinner, and we wanted something mainstream and casual but nice - so decided on this Joey's location. We've been here before and have really enjoyed the atmosphere. Atmosphere: 4/5 It was starting to get quite busy on Friday night, so we are glad we made a reservation! This location is conveniently located at south common. The dining area is modern and clean - large and lots of space with a lively atmosphere. At the same time, I like that there are individual booths even for smaller tables for some privacy to talk and catch up. There is an outdoor patio which was also quite busy that night, as well as a bar area. Food: 4/5 I had the yellowfin tuna salad. It was very well presented - the dish looked very delicate and unique! I loved the freshness of the mango and cilantro / lemongrass, and the seared tuna sashimi was very good. At first the portion size looked small, but ended up being enough for me. The dressings on the side were quite good as well - light but flavorful which I enjoyed. Service: 3/5 It was quite busy that night, so we had a few servers who sometimes overlapped and at times we thought they had forgotten refills for our drinks. But overall friendly and efficient Price: 3/5 On the higher side but it is a nice sit-down dining experience and atmosphere; my dish was also very tasty. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THIS IS MY FAAAAVORITE SPOT! my boyfriend and i were super duper craving calamari and I suggested coming to joeys since I knew how good the calamari is here. Crispy calamari with deep fried asparagus with spicy aioli, I can hear my stomach grumbling again for it even though I had it 2 hours ago!!! The calamari is nicely seasoned and the aioli just tops everything off. Good crunch and flavour, 10/10 would recommend. Another reason why I suggested coming here is the crispy mashed potatoes that come with the steak and the herb salmon that they have on the menu. I order the same thing every time I come here since I found my favourite meal. Since my boyfriend didn't know what to order, I suggested ordering the same thing as me as I knew it was going to be good. I ordered medium well, and my boyfriend ordered medium. I do wish that I got medium because his was much more tender but I still enjoyed my meal. The steak comes with crispy mash (fully loaded) with bacon bits, sour cream and chives(?) as garnish. It also came with their seasonal vegetables, zucchini, roast tomato and I believe red onion. I loved everything on the plate, as usual! The end of the meal we were stuffed and happy. Since my boyfriend and I both work in restaurants we know what bad service is like, and it was definitely not the case today. Our server Jennifer actually surprised us with how attentive she was and how thorough she was with explaining the items we were ordering. Next time we go I'm definitely going to request her as a server as she was very pleasant towards us and gave us the best service we've had in a while. We went for lunch and there was quite the wait list while both the Dining and lounge areas were jam Packed with business professionals on lunch. The super hot and friendly hostesses offered us sweet sparkling water in a champagne flute while we waited for our table, nice touch! A few minutes later, our table was ready and the dining room was impressively huge, filled with wall art, soaring high ceilings and a touch of comfortable swank throughout. The lounge has a massive floor-to-ceiling refrigerated wine cellar that is so high in height that the waitresses climb a left to right moving ladder to access the bottles: given their "Canada's next top model" figure, looks and high heels, it is very Cirque-Du-soleil-ish eye candy hehe The service is exceptionally great and our food was visually appealing and very tasty. From the fire roasted half chicken with all the trimmings (and the amazing matchstick fries!) to our salads, the dishes came out fast and cooked to perfection. This is my fave Joey location. I come to this location the most because I always get the best service here, particularity by Jenna when I am seated in the lounge. I've tried a lot of the menu. When I'm bulking I come in for the Chicken Curry, and when I am on diet I come in for the Sashimi Tuna Salad. Both delicious. I've tried numerous menu items and really enjoy it. Sometimes we come in with a group and just order like 10 apps and share. I like the Rainbow Roll. I also like that this location is busy so if I feel brave enough to socialize I can actually do it. We did come in last night and got accidentally overcharged, but when we noticed they refunded us with a gift card NO FUSS. I definitely appreciated that because it's awkward coming back and getting your money back for something. They were super nice about it. I can't wait for patio season to start! :) read more

It has many booths and they all have good views of the screens they have up for hockey games. If I were to make some recommendations as to what you should order here, I have a couple of favorites. If you are looking for appetizers then I would suggest the wings, cheeseburger sliders, chilli chicken or the pan fried gyoza. I always have difficulty choosing one out of the four. When it's time for the main course I would suggest the grilled chicken souvlaki. It's a great place to go for drinks or dinner. read more

This place is always packed and loud, making it difficult to have a decent conversation. Their food is expensive and they've done away with their daily drink special. It's now a happy hour, that doesn't include the Bellinis or the beer I drink, which used to be included depending on the day. Our server pretty much checked out when we asked for water and didn't order drinks. He dropped off our food and refilled water but wasn't really interested in interacting with us short of doing the very basics. Their food is okay but the salad I had last night was over dressed and the tuna was bland. I'm not sure they seasoned it at all, and when you charge $18.75 for a salad, it had better be amazing. The wine as you wait for seating is a great idea! My daughter and I visited and the wine was good! Had the steak frites...steak was a bit grisly but super well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The arugula salad tasted like a pine tree, -pass! They offered a complimentary dessert- which was very nice! The server was friendly, informative and helpful - excellent really! We all that when you go to an Earls, Joey's or any other Fuller Family owned restaurant, that you are going to get a decent (but not mind blowing) meal, a great (but over priced drink), and a pretty/young but knowledgeable (about the menu at least) waitress. For the: drop in before a movie, apre work cocktail, gab session with the girls or large group gathering, it fits the bill perfectly. And that has been key to the monumental success of these chains... consistently being good, not great. A friend and i decided to pop in after a day of shopping, before going to see a bad summer flick (that's another story!) I will say this, for being right in the middle of the concrete jungle, know as Edmonton South Common, Joey's patio is a little oasis. I must admit it, for the extremely short patio season Edmonton succumbs to, the patio's of Joeys have really stepped up their game! It was serene elegant, playful. It was full of flowers and a fire pit and at no time did i feel like i was in the middle of a parking lot. Well done Joeys South! read more

My boyfriend and I make a habit of going on a date once a week. With no good movies out at the moment, we decided to grab some food at south common. So many restaurants to choose from! We ended up in the Joeys parking lot and decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is interesting. I'm glad we chose the dining room instead of the lounge. The dining room is quiet and you get a sense of privacy. While the lounge, on the other hand, is loud and jam-packed with people. I guess it depends what you're looking for. All the waitresses wear the typical short black dresses with high heels. My boyfriend even asked me how they can wear those for a whole shift. Looking at their stressed feet, I wasn't sure. However we had a friendly waitress and had our drinks come out almost immediately. There is a larrge variety of items on the menu, but so much seems very overpriced. I ordered the chicken souvlaki and he ordered the fettucine alfredo. Now we get to my biggest pet peeve of all time in restaurants. When something is in your food that is not written on the menu. That is really aggravating! I take a bite into my chicken souvlaki and it is stuffed with onions. I am not a fan of onions. If I had known they would be on my food I would have simply asked for my souvlaki sans onions, however I never even got the opportunity. Instead, I'm stuck with a mouthful of onions deciding what to do about it. In the end, I didn't eat my meal, instead I picked at my boyfriends, which I'm sure he was happy about. His was pretty tasty. The sauce was flavorful but quite greasy. Also, in order to get garlic bread with his pasta meal, it costs extra. The waitress didn't ask any questions about why I wasn't eating my meal and just took my plate. If you read my other reviews, you will know I rarely complain. I just wonder about people with allergies to specific food, who order something off a menu that doesn't actually represent what you are about to order.
