I would've given it five stars -- however, there is a very strange concept they have enacted. Recently they opened up this most fabulous and incredible patio (where the old hotdog company was) ... but what is strange is all the drink prices are double the cost from the inside to the outside - so for example a pint can be as low as $3.75 just like black dog and other cool places on the Avenue but then when you go outside to the patio the exact same pint costs $7.75. Also they only take cash which is very strange especially during a pandemic, as everyone is doing touchless etc. no debit no Mastercard nothing literally pure cash only. But besides touchless factor, people are also on tight budgets so coming up with cash is more difficult then using credit - it is much easier spending wise. How do I know that the patio concept isn't going over as well? Because it's normally half empty -- yesterday was absolutely incredible day & evening and there's like four people on it. Hopefully, they'll correct this oversight before summer ends -- it will be the only way to pay for the exorbitant amount they likely spent making the patio.

Everything is amazing. Just as a heads up, though - be prepared to pay for this excellent food. Between my friend and I the bill for the both of us was $148 plus tip. It's not cheap but if you're prepared to pay It's totally worth it.

Came here for Classical Guitar night. No admission fee so it was a "tip-at-the-end-of-your-meal" in an envelope. So bring cash! Or the waitress can charge your credit card but she will ask you to tell her the extract amount you wish to tip which makes me uncomfortable. I got the Veggie Burger $21.95 with side of bean and corn soup (their main soup). Soup was better than expected if you like beans. Tastes as you would expect. Burger - bottom bun was quite soggy, slaw was very nice. Patty was more mush and just squishes out of the bun. Decent flavor but would have liked it crisper and more solid. They provide Mango Habanero hot sauce which is really cool. Friend got the Bison Burger on Gluten-free bread. She was happy with her burger. I thought it looked funny on a slice of bread instead of a bun. She loved the salad too. My friend tried the grapefruit gelato and said it was fine. I got the Peach Bourbon pie advertised on the "today special" board. Good pie. Good solid crust, peaches inside were tasty, weird jelly filling but wasn't so bad. Not too sweet. Nice ice cream but very small portion. Kicker was the price. $14.50!!! To me that is ridiculous as I can but a WHOLE homemade pie from the farmers market for $25 and this was At Most a quarter of a pie. DISAPPOINTED. Overall Lovely spot to watch a live show, decent food if not overpriced.

This is an exclusive jazz club located just off whyte avenue. It is located on a side street, and…read moreis virtually invisible to the unknown eye. My boyfriend took me here as an anniversary present and I loved every moment of it. The place is pretty high end, and it is expected that you do not talk while people are performing. It is VERY frowned upon to do so actually. It has a bar where you can grab drinks, but there is no table service. Popcorn and nuts were also available for a small charge. What makes this venue unique is the quality of musicians that pass through their doors. We went and listened to a Grammy winner and she was fabulous! There is a ticket price per show. There is also a membership price. The membership price varies from $25 to $450 depending on how much you want to save. I would recommend anyone go here at least once for the experience. Just remember: NO TALKING WHILE THE ARTISTS ARE ON STAGE!

You must come at least 30 minutes before the performance. We barely got a place to sit. We shared a guy's table after his 2 companions could not buy tickets at the box office because it was a sold out show. It seems they got the sound system fixed since my last visit. Last night was spectacular. Al Muirhead, Tommy Banks and P.J.Perry. Watch the masters go at it for a couple hours and you will be in awe. The volunteer staff does the best they can, but I feel like they are judging you. Deciding if you are worthy of attending their concert. They are a very dedicated bunch. It's been operating like this since 1957 when it used to be on Whyte Ave. . (Since 1984 in this current location). I used to have a membership, but the flyers for the concerts would always arrive by snail mail way too late and I'd always miss a show. The small savings that membership offers is not really worth it to me. Just check online when you are in the mood, and you'll find something great to see.

The building itself is beautiful and maintained well. I've been to The Winspear a number of times, including getting to perform on stage with my school…read morechoir back in the day. But it had been a while since I'd seen a show there. And then I had tickets for 2 shows just a few weeks from each other. So I figured let's review The Winspear. This concert hall is fantastic in terms of acoustics. I'm sure you've seen other reviews say something similar. There aren't many bad seats, and most of the shows here are concerts so have good sound will be the most important thing imo. The space is beautiful, bathrooms are clean, lots of space in the lobby, coat check is a reasonable $2, and the line for the bar or snacks wasn't to long. The one thing that's a downside is the seating chart, or maybe better to explain it trying to find your seat. The first show I saw (Foil, Arms, & Hog: Skittish) the usher pointed to where my seat was. Sat down and 10 minutes later a man came up and said I was in his seat. No problem, got up, asked another usher where to go. I was further down on the main floor. The second show (1922 film Nosferatu with a live playing of the massive Davis concert organ) my friend and I went were we thought we should sit. We entered on the left doors and there was no usher there. But something didn't feel right so I went to the main doors to ask an usher if we were in the right spot. He pointed to where we were sitting so I went back there. A few minutes later another group of people in that section we were in realized they were in the wrong spot when other people came to their seats. And that group(the ones that had to move) said they were in the section our tickets said. Obviously we were in the wrong spot, so we moved to right seats. So that was confusing with the seats and there isn't anything, other than on the doors to mark what the sections are. The fact that two different ushers at two different shows I've been to told me to go to the wrong seats is a bit frustrating. There is an online interactive map, but I find on a phone it's hard to see and navigate. Maybe have a paper map outside by the doors, especially the ones on the left and right side if no usher is going to be there. That's my one gripe about the Winspear. Other than that both the shows were great. The Winspear is right downtown and the library parkade is nearby. There's also Churchill station nearby, so pretty accessible for transit. I've already got tickets for a third show I'm seeing in a few weeks, so I hopefully I won't get sent to the wrong seats.

We hadn't been to Brasserie Bardot, but had visited other restaurants in the area. I love the idea of old mansions converted to restaurants, and this didn't disappoint. The decor was elegant while also bringing a casual feel to it. For a Saturday night at 7:00, the place was definitely not busy- but that said, it's a small place. The service was decent, possibly a bit slow. We had good company though, and we're not in a rush. All of our food, and dessert was quite good. I do find the menu lacked variety though.... I noticed that there were things in people's reviews online that were not on the current menu. Either it's a seasonal menu, or the menu used to be larger. I'm not sure. All in all, I will be back. I think sipping a wine on their patio on a hot summer day will be idyllic.
