    Complementary Bread

We decided to eat here to celebrate my husband's new job. It is a little pricey for our budget but we thought we could treat ourselves. Everything was wonderful. They share a parking lot with Violino which is fine but it was full and it was strange with only two other couples inside. We parked on the street. Inside it was beautiful. Classic and comfortable without being snooty. A great place to chat and have wine. They also have a wonderful balcony so we will hit this in the summer months. Classic French menu. Looks lovely. Also pricey for some things. However, we decided on one cheaper meal and one more pricey one. Hubby chose the Bardot Burger for $21.99 - House-made ground beef patty, gruyère cheese, house sauce, mustard, candied bacon, lettuce, tomato, and parmesan truffle fries. I went with the higher price menu item Poitrine de Canard $39.99 Pan seared sous vide duck breast, corn cognac puree, crispy fingerling hash, duck jus. I love escargot so I couldn't resist the D'Escargot Wellington $19.99 Snail, bacon, mushroom duxelle, puff pastry, petit greens & bordelaise. Cocktails looked good but we already spent enough so we stuck with water. Our server was amazing. Emma was friendly, knowledgeable on the menu and prompt. My water glass was always full. She checked on us often. And like some other places that are higher end, didn't scoff when we didn't order alcohol. She was lovely. Food came out promply. The complementary bread with red pepper butter was a nice addition. Loved the escargot. Puff pastry was tender, and I loved that you could taste the escargot and it wasn't shoved in broiled cheese and mushroom caps. The escargot was cooked really well and the bordelaise sauce was lovely. I also loved that when I wasn't sure what to do with bordelaise sauce our server explained it nicely instead of rolling her eyes like a lot of servers do. The escarcot was cooked beautifully and probably the best escargot I have eaten (including in France). The sous vide duck breast was cooked perfectly. Beautifully presented. Lovely sides. I love when the veggies are not an afterthought,. The brussel sprouts were so good. A little bite of veggies, sauce, and duck and it was musical in my mouth. However the big winner was the burger. My husband loves burger. We have tried to find the best burger in Edmonton. This is it. And for 21 bucks a steal of deal. First of all tonnes of meat, which was the best way for my husband to celebrate his job. Everything was fresh and worked well. And I LOVED his truffle fries. Tomato best 100 voted The Marc as best Truffle fries. Sorry. Nope. These were so much better. Even though were were too full for dessert, they brought out a complementary Crème Brûlée. What a lovely touch. Would love to come back here. And would love to try a tasting menu from them.

Booked a reservation on OpenTable. Arrived on time and was seated in a large room with no other guests. Waitress brought water and never came back. After 25 minutes, we left. I was unable to cancel our reservation on OpenTable because the restaurant confirmed we arrived. Nonetheless, the restaurant changed the reservation status to no-show. Had the restaurant left the status alone, I would not have written this review, but instead I had the aggravation of having to correct their attempt to deny the reservation.

The gentleman who served us was attentive, knowledgeable and well. . . . he should be, turns out he's the owner! He busses his own tables, serves his customers and is all around a very amazing person. Try the Mushroom Soup - it's to die for, NOT KIDDING! You can try the white or rye bread with a red peppered flavored, whipped butter. So good :) Hubby had Free Range Pesto Chicken Breast over Linguini, while I had the Free Range Breaded Chicken a la Rousse (Stuffed with Salmon, white wine dill cream sauce) - - - save your pennies and just do it, visit here. To top off hubby's birthday we had the Sticky Date Pudding "served warm with ice cream, whipped cream & topped with hot caramel sauce" as per the menu, but it does not do it justice (picture included) I had the Terrine of Sorbets "layered black cherry, lemon, mango, served with champagne" - they actually pour the champagne over the sorbet, deeee-lish! I've included pictures of the sorbet, the sticky pudding and mushroom soup. Not the chicken dinners, as I was too busy enjoying it and felt a bit bad not staying engaged in the experience. EXCELLENT service, food and beverages!! ----- Do yourself a favor, and just go!

Free parking in the back. I love their pate dishes. The foie gras and goose liver are to die for. Yum.i could eat this all day everyday. The fruit preserves are always complementing the dish perfectly. The venison, steak, lamb, veal, and duck are always tender and flavourful. Some of these dishes are only daily specials so ask your server. The desserts are great too. I personally prefer the apple crisp. The chocolate mousse and creme caramel are a bit underwhelming but the crisp is very very good. At lunch they have great daily specials which are quick and u can be in and out in 40 min flat. Sitting by the window is amusing as well. Free parking in the back.

They changed thier menu to fall coziness so we tried a few different things. We had the Chou Farcie which is France's version of a cabbage roll- Savoy cabbage stuffed w/ braised pork & beef, sautéed vegetables & served with tomato sauce. We also had the Coq au Vin -two braised drumsticks, red wine, smoked bacon, shallots, and mushrooms. We had the savoury cake sale and the flavour was vegetable. Finally to round off the meal we had pommes duchesse w/horseradish, chive aïoli, and truffle oil. We also tried some seasonal cocktails. Service was friendly and professional. Food came out in timely manner. The ambiance was cozy and a great place to chat. Food was amazing as usual. Favourite was the devilled eggs but I really appreciated the chou farcie. The flavour was delicous and my hubby appreciated that it was mostly meat. You really can't go wrong here! Just order whatever you are feeling like and you won't be disappointed.

Partake is a gem on Sundays with their Sunday Sips & Snacks - $8 cocktails and snacks under $10. Such a beautiful cozy space (or enjoy their lovely patio), you'll want to linger and take your time here. Service is fabulous and so friendly, and the drinks are strong and well made. We love the food - dare I say, the best french onion soup in the city? (And just $6 on the Sunday snack menu!!) The charcuterie options change constantly, as does the flavour for the complimentary popcorn to nibble on (brown butter & dill the night we were there). From the regular menu, absolutely get the tartare. The flavours, the texture - every bite was perfect.

We had made a reservation far in advance as it was for valentines night. We were seated promptly and I got a corner table as requested, Thank you! The staff were all very attentive, pleasant and friendly, and never lingered too long. The restaurant was warmly lit and was mostly quiet but had some lovely relaxing/romantic music playing. I ordered a lovely glass wine, which turned into a second glass, closer to dessert and hubs had a fancy non-alcoholic drink he liked. The menu was a prix fix but I was pleasantly surprised with our options. There were 3 choices for each course. Our first course, Hubs ordered the Bibb salad with chicken skin croutons, such a unique and delicious idea. I had the pork rillette, which was like an amazing pate, with apricot gelee, mustard and crisp bread. This was absolutely incredible. Our second course, hubs had the duck with lentils and endive, every bite was simply divine. I had the steak with mushrooms, peas and asparagus, the sauce for this was amazing and the steak was so incredibly tender. Third course was dessert, hubs had the chocolate cake, which he said was very good. I had the "cereal milk" panna cotta. This dish was the hit of the night, so many components from the berries to earl grey tea gelee to the cornflake tuile. Nothing in this dish was overly sweet as may desserts are, but they all worked so brilliantly together in each bite. I could not stop eating it. The courses all came at perfect intervals, with enough time in between for you to want the next course. I often feel rushed at most restaurants, this was a lovely change. They were also perfectly portioned, so you have room for all three courses, unlike so many other restaurants. My biggest complement was that each dish I tasted was not only delicious, there was an intellectual component, and each bite made me think about each ingredient and how they worked together. I have never been to a Micheline star restaurant, I personally think these dishes would fit right in. Well done chef!

We wanted to take friends out for a nice dinner.. booking the day prior, most establishments had no availability... The Marc did. It's been 4 years since we last ate here... The red flags maybe should have popped up when we entered to an almost empty restaurant. SO to start... The Burrata was fine, not great.. just average (Try Pip for a really good Burrata) The Market Cheese for $14.00 is a complete joke. At least we thought it was.. you get 1 slice of cheese and 3 pieces of bread. The 4 of us looked at the waitress when she put it down thinking they made an error.. but no.. it is a $14.00 slice of cheese. The steak Tartare was decent. Their take is heavy on pickles but it is fine.. if you are looking for a less "tangy" tartare, skip as this is pickle and caper forward. The steak.. you would do better at Chop, Keg, Cactus Club or a variety of other places... thin, little flavour but ohhh the grill marks. My wife had chicken... it was chicken stacked on some beans etc. Not bad.. just chicken .. sauce was good but not "fine dining" The duck.... OMG the duck... my friend has never had duck so I convinced him to order it, He ordered Med and I ordered Med Rare... Both came out as 2 pieces each of Grey wet skinned, Medium (over) meat with a couple crispy wedges of overdone (Hard on the bottom) tomato polenta. The "Sauce Moutard" .... Well.... Maybe look online for a recipe.. Needless to say, my friend's 1st duck experience was sub par.. So for $500.00 (4 cocktails and wine were $150 of that), there are sooo many other establishments in Edmonton to select from... but you may have to book in advance. We could have taken them to Cactus CLub and had a better meal for less... Dissatisfied to say the least.
