Visiting the area and saw a reference to Mountainview Station as an better alternative to the restaurant being reviewed. So, after reading numerous excellent reviews, we reprogrammed our GPS and headed for Center Ossipee (population 561), not to be confused with Ossipee Corner known simply as "Ossipee." It was a detour well worth taking. We both opted for versions of a roast turkey club, probably one of the best I've had. The tempura-like onion rings were addictive. I also ordered mussels as an appetizer. Excellent as well. The location and the building looked a bit foreboding from the outside, but once you enter, you find a small friendly restaurant with great food and excellent service. read more

Food was good. Hubby had the meatloaf I had baked haddock. Nothing fancy but serving was good size and good tasting. Waitress/hostess was another story. Place is small and she was standing at the front when we walked in. Couldn't even be bothered to walk 10 steps over, just told us to have a seat anywhere but as we started to walk in she corrected herself and said "at one of the small tables" they had 2, 4 and 6 seating available. We were the only ones coming in and there were 2 other people there already eating. Not exactly rush hour. We probably would have taken a 2 top rather than a 4 top anyway but it just set the wrong tone. Tossed rather than placed menus and then went back up front to continue munching on her sandwich. Located in the middle of nowhere, this train station converted to a restaurant has a nice, interesting atmosphere. The food was fine, and reasonably priced. Our waitress was friendly, but after she brought our food, she forgot about us even though we were right next to the counter. We repeatedly had to approach her for refills, napkins, our check. She spent the whole time talking at another employee. At one point, she brought us desert and spoons. She dropped one of the spoons, and simply picked it up and handed it to us. After a moment of bewildered looks it was as if she realized her error and got us another spoon. We would still go back, but next time we'd hope to have a different waitress. read more

Great little lunch spot in Main Street Ossipee Village. It's an old train depot and has very charming decor and comfy, clean seating--main dining room has pretty high ceilings and an open yet warm feel, and small cozy side room looked very inviting as well. Our party of three ordered cheeseburger, seafood combo plate, and fried haddock wrap. All very good and fresh tasting. Cheeseburger was a hair overlooked, but still juicy and hand made--never frozen. Seafood combo plate was a lot of food--but fresh and delicious--the haddock might have been a tad underseasoned. My haddock wrap was delicious though--perfectly fried, fresh and tender served in a grilled wrap with mayo, lettuce, tomato--very, very good. Service was very slow, but our server was friendly and courteous and working hard--we had to be somewhere, otherwise the slow service wouldn't have bothered us. We had the most lovely lunch here! My teenage daughter is still talking about her fish sandwich and homemade pie! It was very clean and all of the food looked delicious! They roast turkeys so no lunch meat here. It was on our way to Castle in the Clouds but we would make the trip just to eat here again! read more

Cozy little restaurant in old ossipee village nh. A hodge podge motif of train and railway memorabilia in the old Ossipee train depot. Open for lunch and dinner we popped in for a quick bite. I am from the mid Atlantic so this was the last place I would have tried a soft shell crab sandwich. But.....it was delicious. Great roll, dressing, lettuce tomato and bacon. Tasty and served with coleslaw and fries. Service was friendly and fast. I was only slightly surprised that the crabs were from maryland. It's very off the beaten trail and even the yelp map feature was a bit off. Look nearby the ossipee post office. Otherwise map may take you north of the restaurant. read more

Wonderful experience from beginning to end... This restaurant has an extensive menu supplemented by a blackboard containing an additional 6 or so items. The primary emphasis is seafood and 3 of us ordered a seafood special called "Jolly Roger" consisting of fried haddock, melted cheese, cole slaw and Russian dressing served on delicious home made bread. All of us ate only 1/2 of our sandwich. We normally eat our entire sandwiches without effort. This restaurant has an excellent selection of local microbrews - a definitive enhancement to the food. Our waitress was a real "pro" and our service was impeccable. We felt the price of the food was entirely reasonable considering both the quality and quantity. Now, id like to bring to the forefront actual facts of the matter. Firstly, I was invited to the private party which lasted from 7 until 10 pm on a holiday. Seeing as how absolutely nothing at all goes on in this town, ever, I'm guessing that a small 40th birthday party isn't going to kill anyone (other than the birthday boy, of course. Since he's 40, he's likely on the verge of death, anyway). Secondly, the band was so not-loud that I had no problem carrying on conversations with all of the old people in attendance. Yes, 80% of the attendees were retirement age. So, Amy g, my message to you is, since none of us complain about the fact that you sell purple ding dongs in our sweet little Main Street community, you should shove your mozzarella sticks directly in your stick hole. read more

Great place to grab a bite to eat. We all got sandwiches/wraps. Everything was fresh and tasty. The chicken was very tender and moist. The turkey was fresh cut not 'sandwich meat'. All the fixing were fresh. The fries and onion rings were very good. The rings have a light fried coating which I liked. Everyone was very friendly. After seeing all the reviews of the Mountainview Station Restaurant we decided to try it. We went on a Saturday night and had a 30 minute wait for a table. Once seated, the waitress was prompt, took our order, and brought us our drinks. The food arrived quickly and was very good. We had the steak tips and the fish and chips. The steak tips were much better than one of the expensive restaurants we have gone to in the area. The food was a good value for the money. The only draw back, is the restaurant is pretty small, and the level of noise was up there from a couple of large groups. read more

Quaint and terrific. This old railroad station turned restaurant is a rare find and worth a try. We both had the scallops and they were so fresh and sweet, it was as if they were right off the boat. My wife and I have been going to Mountain view since it opened years ago, and have had consistently good experiences. Food is very, very plentiful, tasty, well prepared, very reasonably priced, and promptly served by attentive staff. It's an authentic retired railway station with lots of charm, but be warned that the restrooms are aging with it. It's a very well regarded lunch and dinner spot among the locals, who consider Chrissy's place their favorite go-to, and strangers come back! The beyond-generous seafood dishes are among their favorite fares. My favorites are the friend smelts, fried oysters, fried mushrooms, fried scallops, fried clams, and fried anything! I'm a big eater and always ask for half portions, which they gladly prepare off-menu without hesitation. Even the half portions are generous. Hot sandwiches are fantastic. Chrissy is very inventive and frequently has a wonderful special that she cooks up. Everything on the menu is a good bet. Big selection of local micro brews and other popular beers. Wine too.
