We go to this charming Inn for dinner regularly. They have recently also begun offering breakfast Wednesday thru Sunday. We love this place, the food has been excellent (although I would like to see fewer potatoes and more pasta, but that's just me) Hope is usually our waitress and you could not ask for better. She is very friendly and efficient. She is a treasure! The menu has plenty of selections and the food is always cooked properly and served hot. This restaurant is one of the few we have been to in the area that is not particularly noisy, an important aspect for being able to hear one's dining companion. Try the breakfast too. I tried the croissant breakfast sandwich which was really very special and the fresh fruit bowl was excellent. Service also was efficient, by Helen. Had a wonderful meal last night for an early Mother's Day dinner. Food was delicious and the window view was beautiful over looking the backyard of the property. The service was very friendly and attentive, and had great attention to detail. As locals in town, we appreciate having options for dinner and will make sure to add this to the rotation. Will have to try out the speakeasy next time for a quick drink. The property has been very well maintained, Bravo! read more

Mixed review after our visit in late May. Speakeasy was really cool and the bartender was on too of her game and mixed a good drink. Walked into the dining room which is comfortable and cozy. Apps were ok, we got the sausage stuffed mushrooms which looked great but had so-so taste. Meals were shrimp scampi which was good. I got the chicken parm which was just ok. Too thick piece of chicken, sauce was plain and flavor lacking. Atmosphere was nice, quiet and low key. Ordering from the menu was really a process of elimination. Next time I mighg try the chicken marsala or chicken piccata. If I could make suggestions I would have maybe add something a little spicy or creole to the menu. Maybe a shrimp orleans with hot ham or a jambalaya dish. In summary, the bartender was great, our waitress Hope was very professional and efficient. There once was a great inn in Wakefield. It was owned and operated by a really nice family. The wife was a professionally trained chef and was in charge of the kitchen. The menu selection was very diverse, all of the dishes were superb, and the prices were very reasonable. Everyone gave the restaurant rave reviews and it was definitely worth five stars. But alas, unfortunately those good old days are gone now. Hopefully they will return some day! It is under new management, not the same anymore read more

Was looking forward to Wakefield Inn reopening and went to dinner their first week open. Very disappointing! There were 4 of us and we either felt our meal was ok at best or inedible. One ordered the special which was fish and was very dry, one ordered chicken breast that looked like it was sliced in maybe in half and pounded the hell out of it. Looked very dry and tasted even worse....inedible! spaghetti and meatballs ok but how do you screw that up. Caesar salads good, mussels nothing special. 2 had dessert which they said was very good. I'll chock it up to just opening and may give them another chance. read more

Restaurant is under new ownership\management. Was hoping it would reopen and be as good as it was before. Unfortunately this was not the case. Party of four for dinner and all of us were very disappointed with our appetizers and meals. Overpriced and below cafeteria level food. No love, creativity, or skill expressed in any of the dishes. Service was below average. Pricing should be cut in half for this level of quality of food and service. Most ingredients appeared to be common supermarket or big box store items. No local farms or other sources supported or mentioned on the menu. The four of us cannot stop talking about how poorly our meals where prepared and presented. If you do go do not hesitate to immediately bring any issue to the manager's attention otherwise they will never improve. Hope they can turn things around and do better. read more

I needed somewhat last minute (called about a week before) catering for a private event with 30 people. Christina was so helpful and communicative and even agreed to deliver all of the food to us...and it was FABULOUS. We ordered sandwiches, pasta salad, potato salad and a house salad...all of it was superb. Everyone was raving about how fresh and delicious every single thing was. We had a wonderful dinner tonight for our 28th anniversary. Drove by so many times and never been here. A good variety on the menu and our meals were absolutely fabulous. We just finished the best meal at Wakefield Inn Restaurant. I had the baked haddock dinner with the tastiest carrots and mashed potato. My husband had the salmon which he raved about. This is the place to be! The boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at this inn. Most definitely one of the nicest that I've been to. The inn is very cozy, as plenty of areas for you to hang out in, a great fireplace, cookies and tea any time, and great food and amazing cooking classes. Janel and Gretchen were wonderful and so hospitable. The inn is a registered historical site, a house older than 200 years old. It's nicely decorated and infuses the history of the house, and it was fun going around and reading about why each room is named what it is. Janel's experience as a trained chef really impressed us. For breakfast, we had stuff french toast, fresh fruit, bacon, and apple oatmeal muffins. For lunch we got great wraps with fruit and chips, and for dinner, we had a cooking class. We had an incredible time with the other two groups that took the class for us, and Janel led us through a very informative class, where we made potato leek soup, homemade pasta, shrimp in a cream sauce, and tiramisu. The inn is within an hour from a few skiing locations (Attatash and Wildcat), and I especially recommend the inn to those looking for a mini getaway. The inn can also arrange in room massages which are heavenly. This place is definitely worth every penny. read more

Went to dinner Sunday evening at the Wakefield Inn, Wakefield, NH. Ordered Prim Rib, my husband had the Haddock. Prime Rib was re-heated on a flat grill, seared. Not what I expected but did mention it to the young waitress who actually ignored my remarks or just brush them off. Lesson learned is don't order prime rib at a restaurant that is only opened Thursday thru Sunday and expect it to be freshly cooked. In fact now I realize that unless you go Thursday or Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be left overs and or re-heated. Deliveries probably come Wednesday or Thursday, differently not Saturday or Sunday. Won't be rushing back, I live local to the Inn but won't be recommending it to my friends. read more

Wow! What a find! I met my wife and son for dinner on a Friday night. They traveled north from Nashua; I traveled south from Ossipee. The inn was recently purchased by the Nicastro family. The all new restaurant is being guided by daughter and Executive Chef: Christina Nicastro. Our meal was a delight. My son feasted on a perfect sized entree of spaghetti and meatballs. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the salmon pistachio and I completely blew my diet by devouring the most delicious seafood risotto. (I can't believe I ate the whole thing!) The service was friendly, attentive and HAPPY! (My only criticism was the limited wine list that I'm sure will expand with time.) Our desserts were a perfect treat--complimented by my son's discovery of cookies in the parlor. Only open since May 2013, I wish them great fortune. The locals have gravitated to the restaurant and have heard from some that we NEED to go for Sunday brunch. Hope they have access to the snowmobile trails this winter--we'll be Sunday morning regulars! read more

Snagged a ressie after the summer people have left for the season. We have been meaning to get here for quite sometime and tonight was the night! Nice reuse and respect for the antique home - now a B&B and restaurant. We started with drinks and apps - hubby had the Arancini and I opted for the meatball app - nice portion and extremely flavorful. Hubby had the Lobster Ravioli - great portion and very flavorful. I had the Chicken Picatta (without the capers) , nice balance of lemon and garlic served over spaghetti. Good portion - I brought home leftovers. My hubby is creme brulee fan and seeks it out wherever we go - he was happy with the choice along with a decaf cappuccino. Chef Christine is a one-woman show back in the kitchen - she turns out some really great meals. Staff was friendly and attentive - we were happy to observe the Covid-19 precautions in use regarding cleaning and mask use. Since we live at the lake 9 months out of the year I am sure we will become regulars for our date nights. read more

We have eaten here many times and have enjoyed every meal we've ever had. But tonight was exceptional; I had the best short ribs I've ever had in my life. I order short ribs often, in many restaurants, all over the country, and can say tonight's top them all. They were tender, moist, and flavorful. Our service was also perfect. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Having a rather nice wine selection as well. Problem is, service was subpar. Not at all what you would expect from an establishment with a menu and food qualities such as here. we ordered appetizers that were excellent, but just before we finished those appetizers the main course came. The waitstaff never removed the appetizer plates from our table, and we had to ask for somebody to come by in order to order wine. If as much care was given to the service piece as it is with the food preparation, this would be a five star establishment. read more

Built in 1804, the Wakefield Inn has many features preserved from that time. Although it has been updated with conveniences like plumbing and electricity, this is still an old inn - and that's much of it's charm. The furniture is eclectic to say the least and faithful to the entire history of the inn rather than a snapshot of a particular decade. The Inn serves breakfast daily and a five course dinner on weekends for $49 per person. This is not haut gourmet cuisine - rather it's like having an aunt or friend who is a really good cook and serves wholesome home made meals all made from scratch, all using local and seasonal ingredients - some of which come directly from the garden behind the inn. Our five course meal featured spring pea soup - the spring kind with green peas, mint and cream, not the fall kind with yellow peas and ham. It was simple, fresh and true to its ingredients. My wife had the other starter choice which was spinach salad which was excellent. The second course was a caramelized onion tart with blue cheese and walnuts. For me, the topping was a bit sparse and the crust resembled a pita more than what I would usually expect. The main was a choice of lamb, pork tenderloin or sole. I had the pork with a rhubarb compote, which may have been in the warming oven a bit too long as it was overdone for my taste. It was served with creamy mashed potato and fresh grilled asparagus, both of which were good. My wife's lamb was cooked exactly to her liking, served with risotto and asparagus. The fourth course was a rather disappointing cheese course - a bland cheddar, a dry gruyere, a smoked Gouda and a rather bland goat cheese. Even respecting a 100 mile limit for sourcing products, I'm sure there are more choices out there. The finale was a rhubarb apple pie with crumble topping, just like Grandma used to make. The modest wine list is concentrated in the $25-40 range. The service was very friendly, not too fast and "folksy" - as if you're eating at someone's home. The dining room features a massive window looking out to a delightful garden and featuring a constant parade of birds to the feeders. Apparently one birder chalked up 38 different birds over the course of his stay at the Inn. Janel, the owner, chef, gardener, welcoming committee, and overseer of all that goes on is a young dynamo with incredible energy somehow magically blended with the calm that comes from living in a centuries old inn in an idyllic landscape. read more

This review is for the food only. Christina, the new chef at the Wakefield Inn, catered the hors d'oeuvres and appetizers for our wedding (110 guests) which was held at a private residence near the inn. For context, we are west coast (San Francisco) foodies, so we have pretty picky and hard-to-please palates. Christina's food was amazing! Our guests were raving about many of her dishes, and particularly about her lobster lettuce cups (which were huge and super tasty), her seasonal vegetable spring rolls, and her crab cakes! Christina was very professional and accommodating. She listened closely to our feedback after our tasting and integrated all of our suggestions with no hesitation. She also came to our venue the day before to make sure that she knew the layout and what she would need to bring, and to touch-base with our wedding planner. Simply put, Christina blew away the other more experienced wedding caterers with whom we tried to work. Her prices were much lower, she was nicer, she provided line item pricing which made it easy to hit our budget target, she listened to feedback, and she nailed the food! I've also heard great things from the locals about the Wakefield Inn restaurant, but have not had an opportunity to eat there. Wow! Delicious drinks -blueberry lemonade and a pineapple coconut concoction-followed by amazing food. They served homemade rolls first. Then we started with watermelon salad that had a wonderful dressing, candied sliced almonds, arugula, grape tomatoes and good quality feta. Next, I had prime rib and hubby had chicken parm. The prime rib was not only a generous portion, but full of flavor, tender, and delicious. I believe the pasta that came with the chicken parm was fresh, and the sauce great. We had to get dessert, but we were so full, we took it home, but not before my husband took several bites, exclaiming "Yum..." after each bite. read more

Dining at the Wakefield Inn is great. This was my second time in. The restaurant is decorated for the Christmas holidays and is very pretty. I had the chicken Parmesan dinner which was delicious! The desserts at this restaurant are phenomenal. I highly recommend! The service was great and the owner Colleen is always around and very friendly. Colleen and her family are the new owners and they will always make you feel welcome. It's so nice to have this restaurant in our little town of Wakefield. read more

Unbelievable food and service! I can't eat Italian food anywhere else anymore. Christina and Nick are absolutely the best host team I have ever met. I've had two parties there and rented the whole Inn, and it's the best experience for large parties. From guacamole and chips to Lemon Blueberry Cake, to Eggplant Parm and Seafood Risotto, you cant beat the food. Also, the specialty drinks are wonderful. Last but not least is the value. Where else can you get a gourmet meal for two with a bottle of wine for less than $100? read more
