Stopped by the Poor People's Pub for the first time yesterday and had an incredible experience. From the service to the food, everything was five stars. Our server was such a sweet and cheerful woman and we met the owner as well who was very nice and made sure everything was going great from start to finish. I highly recommend the French onion soup, pepperoni sticks, and steak tip Caesar salad. The vibe is casual and laid back and perfect after a day at the lake. I will definitely be back!

Hobo pizza special

Just a classic local restaurant with cheap eats and drinks. Specials include the best lobster roll in new Hampshire, specialty pizza of the day plus a whole lot of comfort food. On my last visit I got the hobo pizza which was corned beef, sauerkraut, cheese, pickles. It's unusual but really good.

I've been traveling and was starving. I checked the menu and got the grilled cheese with tomato and bacon to go. I'm not sure if I was just missing NH or famished but that sandwich was absolutely delicious. Bacon was perfect, tomatoes were plentiful and the rye bread was delish. I was in heaven as I sat by Sunrise Lake munching my sandwich.

The bike shop in Wolfeboro recommended this spot after we cycled 12 miles into Sanborn. What a phenomenal treat to enjoy the best lobster roll in New Hampshire - I would dare say on the Eastern seaboard - after a challenging bike ride. Excellent service, fair prices and a fantastic dive-bar vibe. Cannot wait to come back and try out more of their extensive menu.

Not a fancy place but that is part of it's charm. Started by a couple of guys to make good food affordable, my friend and I popped in for their famous lobstah rolls. Served either hot or cold - and both are delish - I recommend the cold one. Attentive and friendly service!

"Well, I met a girl in West Hollywood She was a credit to her gender She put me through some changes, Lord Sort of like a Waring blender Poor, poor pitiful me" (Warren Zevon) When was the last time you heard Cher's 1971 song "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves"? Well I heard it on Friday, in all of its schlocky, campy, kitschy, over the top glory while having lunch in one of the very coolest places I've been to in a long, long time. We were there at 2:00 pm on a Friday, and the place was packed---every seat taken with a 20 minute wait for new arrivals like us. That sure says a lot, doesn't it? How do I even start to describe the Poor People's Pub? Well, every single square inch of every single wall is covered with something -a photo, a print, a cartoon- maybe 1,00 individual pieces, and I haven't even mentioned the painted artwork on the windows. Much of the painted artwork includes their logo -a hobo and a dog walking along-they're modeled after the country gentleman on the monopoly piece whose top hat was downgraded to a derby hat. Their menu has a lot of bum/beggar references -like Beggar's Banquet Salad, a slew of Bum's Bombs sandwiches, a Poor Burger, Tramp's Treat, Pauper's Choice, and Hobo Special. Pricing is super reasonable and you'll be hard pressed to find anything on the menu over $12. We ordered a cup of white chili with tons of chicken, sliced jalapenos and tortilla chips ($5,99), a Poor Boy cheeseburger with chips ($5.49), and a diet cola ($2.75). Do the math -that's a filling and very satisfying lunch for two for about $15. I absolutely loved the PPP!!

Cute fun pub in a little town Sanbornville with 900+ residents. Friendly super helpful service from Jill. Draft pale ale beer is good. Food is average quality, can be dry for most dishes. People's pizza has generous toppings, and could do better with more sauce taste. Pizza pie is interesting, though not preferred by kids who may find too dry. Nice place to hang out in town for some beers.

They asked if we had reservations and we said no. The hostess had 2 hightops available and we said yes. She then informed us that tonight was a set 3 course menu. We glanced it over and said ok. I ordered a Cesar, Prime Rib and 2 sides. I got creamed spinach and mash potato. My friend ordered the Eggplant Parm. She got a salad with hers but no sides were offered with the set menu . The waitress came back and told me the Prime Rib was sold out/spoken for so I had to make another choice. I chose Chicken Saltimbocca with the same sides. Cesar was good, nothing special could have used more dressing as it was light.....def not a classic homemade dressing. Meals arrived 15 minutes later just as we were finishing our salads. Mine was definitely not Chicken Saltimbocca! It was just Chicken breast with HAM! and Holindaise sauce ontop. There were a few slices of spicy ham ontop also but.....not.what the dish is supposed to be. Crazy what you get up in these backwoods places. My friends Eggplant parm was served with ricotta cheese! That also was a first. Chef had to be putting his/her on flair on CLASSIC dishes but mucked it up bad. We had to eat it because it was NYE and we were hungry and an hour from home. One star for warm fireplace and one star for desserts....peanut butter pie and my brownie was a 10 out of 10. Chef needs a tune up and make a round turn with menu items. Then they only ordered enough Prime Rib for reservations only!?!?!?! Sorry or the rant......they won't see me again.

Our friend spoke highly about the pizza, but we were in the mood for something different. Because we were super hungry, and nothing on the appetizers list was calling to us that day, we stared with a side of fries. There was nothing special about them, but we were't expecting them to be special. They were simply good/nicely crisped crinkle-cut fries. I had the Fried Haddock Sandwich, and she had the Cedar Plank Salmon. Both were solid fare. Our only complaint--and it's a minor one--was that they are short-staffed. This is a common problem for lots of places these days, so we've learned to be patient, but we felt like our dining experience here took longer than it should have given that we were here between the lunch and dinner rush (around 2:00). The decor was fun and in keeping with the farm-to-table theme, which, we applaud and prefer. We'll be camping in the area this fall, I suspect we'll be back to try the pizza.

Nope. We drive 90 minutes out of the way to bring my folks here because we were such fans. My husband was so initially turned off upon ordering that he just ordered an English muffin and a side of bacon. I got an iced coffee and it tasted strange. I only had a few sips. It was gross. Most of the food wasn't too bad, though. I will not go back. It was the most awkward restaurant experience I've ever had and my husband feels the same way.

Finally, now that the 'newness' wore off, 4 of us were able to grab a table with ease. There was live music & they post on their Facebook page regularly with updates on food & cocktail specials. We decided on appetizers: nachos w/ chicken, mozzarella sticks & potato skins. The nachos were really good - I liked the chips they used. The mozzarella sticks were a bit underwhelming, similar to frozen ones I've purchased at BJs. The potato skins tasted like they were made in-house. ABOVE & BEYOND MOMENT: Our server, Jackie, was friendly & patient with our requests. I had asked if they could make a spicy margarita. She asked the bartender & they were out of their jalapeno tequila so they asked if it was okay to muddle fresh jalapenos instead. I said I trusted the bartender to do what they thought best. When my margarita was delivered, the Jackie asked if I wouldn't mind tasting it to make sure it wasn't too spicy. I think the fact they custom made the drink & ensured it was to my liking was great. I see mixed reviews about the prices. I honestly found that appetizers averaging about $15 was on the high side. We'd like to go back for dinner, maybe when there isn't live music. Very loud due to the small space. The ambience is a cleaned up version of J.J. Goodwins & there are (2) pool tables.
