Overall, a good meal during our first visit to Wolfsboro. We looked around and found some amazing little shops and decided to try the downtown Grill for a late lunch. It was such a gorgeous day. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed it. My wife and I both ordered salads. A chef salad with grilled salmon for me and a Caesar salad for my wife. We truly enjoyed both as well as the terrific setting overlooking the lake! Will probably be back!

A good option for standard burger fare with an excellent view! Bloody Mary for starters was great and a nice treat - followed by a big juicy burger! The side of house chips was a bit over done and smashed into crumbs but still fine. You can't beat the back deck view though which is why we picked this place. Service was good as well. I'd recommend!

Delicious and quick! My turkey cranberry sandwich is so good. And the staff is friendly.

    A fly.
    Oliver H.

I had a fly in my coffee, and the response by Downtown Grille Cafe was even worse. Specifically the manager's response. After drinking my entire ice coffee, I noticed something dark at the bottom of my drink. When examining it further, there was an actual fly sitting inside. Immediately, I got into my car to head over to Downtown Grille Cafe and see what they would do. When arriving, it was abysmal. Instead of having the manager speak to me directly, they had a young girl deal with the issue on their behalf. At first she offered me money back for the 1 coffee (I had also bought 3 other coffees & 6 croissants). When arguing that I wanted a refund for the entire order, she proceeded to go back and speak with her manager. Long story short, she made 3 trips to see her manager in the back room while I was there and that same manager never once came out to apologize, hold responsibility, or take any action. Instead, they used this girl working for them as the "messenger" for which I feel bad for as it was not her fault. I understand that things happen and you cannot control everything, but you can control your response to an outcome like that. I'm appalled by the display of cowardliness and lack of empathy from their manager. Terrible!

They once did whole chicken which was pretty perfect outside on the old patio. Pretty much impossible to undercook something you smoked for hours but very easy to dry it out, and it was great. Actually brought the whole fam there that day including our dog. It's petfriendly outside. They have three main beers that you can always get, and then about another 3 beers or so of rotating and experimental beers/ciders. If you want to get an idea of the staff this is from my first visit there a few years back. I actually think this was towards the beginning of Covid. We had to get out of dodge and enjoy some relaxation by the lake. When we showed up everywhere we drove by the spots we normally frequented and everywhere was closed, sometime near 8 pm. We did a search and found that here was open and headed over as fast as we could to try to get something to eat. Unfortunately the grill just closed, and we resigned ourselves to a liquid dinner. The chef then pokes his head out and offers to make a pretzel for us, and we could not have been happier. It was a big one too. The staff was just so welcoming and seemingly very happy that we were there... which is not always the case in the general area... that Burnt Timber became one of our usual spots instantly. Each time we've been back it has always been that way, which is even more rare not just here but back in the Boston area as well. So again if you like smoked and fermented things in an unpretentious atmosphere with very friendly staff I'm pretty sure you'll love this place too

There was no clearly marked ADA-accessible entrance or any obvious way for a wheelchair user to safely access the inside of the restaurant. We considered sitting outside, but the awning poles blocked the walkway to the point that we could not comfortably or safely navigate the area with a wheelchair. Even if we had managed to sit outside, we had no accessible way to get inside if the wheelchair user in our party needed to use the restroom. What was perhaps most disappointing was that not one person offered us any guidance, alternative entrance, assistance or possible solution. We were simply left trying to figure it out ourselves. Accessibility is about more than just getting through a door. A person using a wheelchair should be able to enter, dine with their family and friends, and access a restroom with dignity. Sadly, we weren't able to do that here and had no choice but to leave. I sincerely hope Burnt Timber takes a serious look at its accessibility and staff awareness so another family doesn't have the same experience.

This is a community favorite and for good reason: the seafood is exceptionally cooked and the classic lakeside, vintage feel is approachable and still well maintained. This trip, we went to Morrissey's three times for lunch/ice cream and once for dinner. For dinner, we sat in the main dining room. Admittedly, service was a bit slower than some people liked in our party (but I was okay with waiting for it, I'm on lake time!) that was the only qualm we had at dinner was how the service was slow because they are obviously understaffed. When we came for lunch with a smaller party, we decided to sit at the bar instead which is on the other side of the building and more of a dive bar feel: an Irish pub. All of the meals were great, but we preferred sitting in the bar and got much faster service there during our lunch. Of all of the food we've tried, my favorites were the fried scallop and the Cajun shrimp bruschetta. And the Mac and cheese was yummy! But everything has tasted great! And you can't go wrong with some ice cream! Make a reservation if you're planning on doing dinner, but expect a slower pace. So maybe have a snack or don't come starving and know it will be a little slower. But worth the wait in my opinion! Or sit at the bar if you're okay with music and a little bit of a louder environment during your meal with your party.

I'm going to assume it was the bartender, who was shockingly rude, sarcastic, and disrespectful, to say the very least. Not my first experience with this bartender either. The bartender's and server's at Wolfe's Tavern are absolutely horrible. They have reprehensible attitudes and are colossally rude to customers. I asked for a simple clarification of their operating hours. This man was indignant and impolite, calling me out for bringing a discrepancy to his attention!! Uh..what?! I've been a resident of Wolfeboro, NH, for 70 years. This establishment once stood as the landmark for elegant dining, professional and competent administration and staff, and was respected throughout the Lakes Region. You once had an Executive Chef named "Hoke" many, many years ago...a quintessential gentleman with great culinary expertise, who frequently would come out of the kitchen, go table to table, introduce himself to all the patrons, and ask them if their meals were up to their liking. This man "made" The Wolfeboro Inn, almost singlehandedly. When he resigned because of a difficulty with management, the place plummeted...nearly overnight. Fast forward to August, 2025, and it is now worse than ever. I'd recommend Dunkin' Donuts on Center Street, or The Bay Diner on Main ahead of here. It's no wonder today's bartender refused to give his first name...no doubt fearful of this review(!) or one in The Granite State News, aka "The Grunter."
