This place is not dead, peeps! Yes, they have undergone a…read morechange of hands/ownership over the past couple years, and they are trying to crawl out from that. But this cool, historic tavern is still alive and well! Come show some local support. We are Rhode Islanders, and have been coming up here for almost 40 years, and this place holds a dear, sweet place in our heart. We did not partake in food this time around, but it looked and smelled amazing. The drinks/wine were wonderful. Give them a shot! You won't be disappointed!

I'm going to assume it was the bartender, who was shockingly rude, sarcastic, and disrespectful, to say the very least. Not my first experience with this bartender either. The bartender's and server's at Wolfe's Tavern are absolutely horrible. They have reprehensible attitudes and are colossally rude to customers. I asked for a simple clarification of their operating hours. This man was indignant and impolite, calling me out for bringing a discrepancy to his attention!! Uh..what?! I've been a resident of Wolfeboro, NH, for 70 years. This establishment once stood as the landmark for elegant dining, professional and competent administration and staff, and was respected throughout the Lakes Region. You once had an Executive Chef named "Hoke" many, many years ago...a quintessential gentleman with great culinary expertise, who frequently would come out of the kitchen, go table to table, introduce himself to all the patrons, and ask them if their meals were up to their liking. This man "made" The Wolfeboro Inn, almost singlehandedly. When he resigned because of a difficulty with management, the place plummeted...nearly overnight. Fast forward to August, 2025, and it is now worse than ever. I'd recommend Dunkin' Donuts on Center Street, or The Bay Diner on Main ahead of here. It's no wonder today's bartender refused to give his first name...no doubt fearful of this review(!) or one in The Granite State News, aka "The Grunter."

If you are in Wolfsboro and are looking for lake views, this place will suit your needs well. There is no parking and the public lot behind is always full. Prepare to circle a lot ... or find creative spaces. Paralell parking on the street is quite a chore as once you go behind the spot and try to back in, its almost impossible. The food here is average ... or slightly below. I had the worst $26 clam strip roll I have ever had. It had 4 clam strips ... yes, only 4!! Basically, it was a mountain of fries, a plain hot dog bun (not even butter toasted) and a small cup of mayonaise covered cole slaw. The fish and chips are okay ... it looks better than it tastes. Appetizers are nothing to write home about, although the seafood chowder was the best dish any of us had, loaded with clams, potatoes and fish. We found ourselves pondering the menu as nothing looked incredibly good. The views are what you come for. On a nice day, the early 2000's 'wooden everything' decorated interior is not where you want to be seated. The upper deck area naturally has a long wait ... but great waterfrobt views. They have a lower deck as well, which is covered. Slightly less remarkabke views as you are at water level. The waiter was great. Lots of good suggestions and wasn't obstrusive. It's hard not to want to give this place 4 stars for the service and the views ... but the food is just so dissapointing, 3 stars is what it really deserves.

The salad appeared to have been dressed with apple sauce mixed with water(!) and nothing else, and the pork chop tasted of ammonia and some other chemical. It was dry and inedible. Took one small bite, even though the smell was entirely off-putting. Tossed in the trash at home. A very expensive experience for what it was. The one star is for the welcoming and amiable wait staff. In spite of the super cold dining room in which we were seated (some of the folks in our party, including me, resorted to wearing coats and hats during the meal to get warm!), they were cheerful and attentive. The cook did come out into the dining room toward the very end of the evening and put the wall-mounted heater on, which took some of the edge off the cold. Lastly, on exiting the building, watch your step! There's a drop of about 2 feet as you approach the door to the parking lot. Anyone with mobility challenges may be unable to navigate this and/or the black ice in the parking lot.

They suffer from the curse of many NH restaurants that try to be too fancy (not necessary) & so miss the mark or they are just too overly impress with themselves & just don't deliver. They suffer from over trying & just don't deliver. We tried the fried oysters appetizer, undercooked, with their overly sweet bbq sauce - yuk. My husband had their special entree mussel frites & the fries were a soggy mess. I enjoyed their fish special & hoping it was cooked well enough so I don't have food poisoning.. I think it was ok but given our eating experience, I'm a little scared. When the staff is a delight, I hate having to write such a poor review but this was a train wreck of plated meals.
