This place is not dead, peeps! Yes, they have undergone a change of hands/ownership over the past couple years, and they are trying to crawl out from that. But this cool, historic tavern is still alive and well! Come show some local support. We are Rhode Islanders, and have been coming up here for almost 40 years, and this place holds a dear, sweet place in our heart. Whoever answered the telephone in the Wolfe's Tavern on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 3:44 pm ought to be ashamed of himself! I'm going to assume it was the bartender, who was shockingly rude, sarcastic, and disrespectful, to say the very least. Not my first experience with this bartender either. The bartender's and server's at Wolfe's Tavern are absolutely horrible. They have reprehensible attitudes and are colossally rude to customers. I asked for a simple clarification of their operating hours. This man was indignant and impolite, calling me out for bringing a discrepancy to his attention!! Uh..what?! I've been a resident of Wolfeboro, NH, for 70 years. This establishment once stood as the landmark for elegant dining, professional and competent administration and staff, and was respected throughout the Lakes Region. You once had an Executive Chef named "Hoke" many, many years ago...a quintessential gentleman with great culinary expertise, who frequently would come out of the kitchen, go table to table, introduce himself to all the patrons, and ask them if their meals were up to their liking. This man "made" The Wolfeboro Inn, almost singlehandedly. When he resigned because of a difficulty with management, the place plummeted...nearly overnight. Fast forward to August, 2025, and it is now worse than ever. I'd recommend Dunkin' Donuts on Center Street, or The Bay Diner on Main ahead of here. This was a special anniversary dinner and my husband and I were so horribly disappointed. The menu was "lame" with 4-6 offerings of dinner. No rolls were offered. The meals were dry and over cooked, there was no dessert menu. Just shocked that it went downhill so fast from our last visit. This restaurant/tavern is a mere shell ( at best) of the once very good establishment that we frequented often years ago. No crowds, zero atmosphere, very limited menu, poor service and substandard food quality unfortunately tells the story. Worse destination in Wolfeboro hands down. read more

We sat at the bar during "Happy Hour." Drinks are $2 off but seemed like half portions. Bartender was pleasant. We saw a party of ten on the way out who were upset they could not be seated (not crowded) so not sure what was up with that. It was OK. read more

Disappointing to say the least. Our server was new and thus review doesn't reflect on him. The establishment set him up for failure with way too many tables with zero help. He was completely flustered and extremely slow because of the way he was used. My wife had the "special" mushroom ravioli. It was made from frozen ravioli drenched in a sauce from a can. Raviolis split during the cook, all the water inside created a bite with zero flavor. My steak tips were cooked almost well done after I ordered medium rare. Still enjoying our weekend out at Lake Winnipesaukee we went looking for a nice lunch spot on day 2. My girlfriend's dad was from the area and he remembered coming here as a kid so we had to pay a visit! Atmosphere/Appearance: This is yet another restaurant attached to a hotel called Wolfe's Inn. The restaurant does look a bit outdated in front, but that's a part of the history and culture here. Once inside you have the bar off to your right and dining hall to your left. We arrived on a Sunday early afternoon and was able to still catch brunch! Now it wasn't a boozy brunch like Tiffany and I normally do, but it was a nice setup. Out the back of the restaurant takes you to the hotels and to the bathrooms. Service: Really good keeping our waters filled and letting us manipulate things to get as strong of a free drink as possible. Lol. I'll explain later. Food: Delicious! Even though it was nearing the end of brunch most of the food was still fresh, hot and tasted great. I can't remember everything that I ate, but the middle section has your usual breakfast foods such as waffles, bacon, sausage and the like. Then there was a meat station where you could get roast beef or ham cut from the main slab. Then there's a dessert station filled with cakes, pies, fruits and all kinds of sweet treats. As a part of our brunch we got a free drink of choice. Soda, juice or even a mimosa. Our waitress said it would be best to get a glass of champagne and an orange juice separately to maximize our free drink. Smart idea. I'd totally like to come back and try the rest of the menu. Value: I can't put an exact number on it, but I want to say brunch (which included the drink) was around $25.00. I didn't pay so I don't quite remember, but I do know it wasn't THAT expensive, especially for what you got for the money. In conclusion this was an awesome conclusion to our weekend here in New Hampshire, a state I've never visited before. Wolfe's Tavern is great! It's one of the few places in Wolfeboro that's open late and they have a great selection of local beer. Their food menu does not seem to change often, but the food has always been pretty solid. Their Sage Against the Machine pizza (grape tomatoes, goat cheese, pancetta, roasted butternut squash, onions, and roasted garlic cream) was impressive. It was delicious and the goat cheese was not overwhelming. The apple bourbon wings were good too! I've also had the baked Atlantic Haddock, which was topped with cracker crumbs and came with a side of mashed potatoes. It wasn't bad, but a little on the buttery side. We hadn't been to Wolfe's Tavern in years. We decided to give it a try on Nov. 10, 2023. Called numerous times to make a reservation from 2pm until someone finally answered at 4:10. Voice mail at front desk also. Food and Beverage Manager did not answer. When I finally reached a staff member she said they were full for 5:30. I had to ask if any openings for 6:00pm. Finally the hostess said yes and then it took her 3 times to enter my phone number into her computer. A man and woman were at the hostess station when we entered. Neither greeted us. Staff very lacking in adequate training and good customer service skills. Menu was lunch pub oriented, not a dinner menu. Crispy brussel sprouts were not crispy and were not cooked throughly. Batter on my fried haddock was thick and soggy. The fish was good. FF cold and limp. Served in a paper lined wire basket. Definitely should have been plated for dinner. Our waitress told us I wasn't the only one commenting on the batter of the fish. Had to ask for silverware after food had been delivered. We were not offered any specials. Menus were just a sheet of paper. Prices were much too high for the quality of the food. Staff did not appear 'upbeat'. Lacked customer service in social and service skills. Very evident adequate training was not given. I have owned and operated two successful cafes, so I know what I'm talking about. Overall we rated our experience as poor and would not recommend to others. Hopefully, the managers will take this as constructive criticism and make necessary improvements asap. We had dinner in The Tavern tonight and everything was great...the wait staff were pleasant and attentive. The burger was delicious as was the watermelon salad with chicken. However, it was the fries that were so darn good....crispy through the whole meal...addictive!!! Came here after our oven died on Christmas Day and were desperate for somewhere to have Christmas dinner. It's a very lakes region New Hampshire vibe. They had plenty of seating, and friendly staff despite working the holiday. We got the tots and the pizza for an appetizer. The tots are more like croquettes than the tater tots you might expect. Good but not what you think you're ordering. The pizza was functional. A few people got soup and the clam chowder and French onion soups were great. The cocktails also got high marks. For dinner some folks got the bourbon marinated beef tips, someone got the pork chops, someone got the veal stroganoff, and two people got the burger. The beef tips, the pork chops, and the stroganoff got high marks. The burgers were both overcooked and dry. I sent mine back after ordering it medium and getting it well done. Tourist Trap with Horrible service..at least for us! When we arrived we were seated in the back room area, not the actual pub...The pub area is pretty with lowered lighting, high top tables, stone floor. The room attached is lit from cans in the ceiling, has bad carpeting and is overall not a pretty room. OK we can live with that. Our table was sticky as if the previous guest spilled soda and it was mopped up with an already sticky cloth. Luckily we had a wipe, so we fixed that. The menu was right for a pub, good app choices, and about 10 entrees, with plenty of variety. Now let's get to our server, Josh. To preface this, right next to us were two tables getting amazing service from a young lady, so this isn't a training issue. Josh just doesn't give a crap...First interaction, about 8 minutes after being sat..he brings waters, then asks "Do you want anything else but water to drink?" No greeting, no introduction, no iota of care shown about us as guests. We ordered drinks...and waited. About 10 minutes later the drinks arrive, we put in for appetizer. This was brought by the manager because Josh was no where to be seen. The manager had to find us b&b plates and roll ups...Josh never brought them. So now we're starting apps and could use another drink. Finally another round of drinks makes it's way over and entrees are put in. Wait, looking for Josh, nope. Finally another runner brings entrees and we eat. Now out of water and bar drinks. We flag Josh down for more water so we can finish our meal, he's so very useless really. In the mean time the two tables mentioned before have had drinks, water refills, someone asked if they liked their food, you know normal waiter stuff. Finally with the check I asked Josh if he was new and he said he's been doing this for a month and it's just his summer job so who cares how good he is. Hopefully everyone who reads this. I came to Wolfe's Tavern for dinner while visiting New Hampshire. We made a reservation in advance but it wasn't too busy when we arrived. We sat right away. The menu is nice and has a lot of options. We ended up each getting a cup of soup. I got a chicken escarole soup and one of us had the New England clam chowder. We enjoyed the soup. For my entree, I had one of the specials of the night which was tuna. It came with puréed edamame and vegetables. The tuna was cooked perfectly and it was delicious. My mother had a steak and she said it was perfectly cooked. For dessert we shared the cheesecake and it was delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed the food and the service was great. What we ate I was a square plain, tired room, lit with bright lights, zero atmosphere. The room next to it looked nicer but was not open. Food was subpar, uninspired and expensive. Drinks came in pint glasses, no stirrer. And for a tavern, no draught beer! Menu listed 20 bottles and we were told "the CO2 was broken". Down so long that they printed menu with only bottled beer? There's a brew pub across the street, go grab a keg! Place could be potentially fixed up with a chef and decor. Real disappointment! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. 7 years ago we had a horrible experience, and decided to give it another shot. Had 7:15 reservation. Took 15+ minutes for the server to even greet us. She doted on her larger table next to us. Ordered drinks and apps. Drinks arrived 10 minutes after. Appetizers never came. After being hungry for 35 minutes, we spoke with the hostess and left. A couple sat about 20-25 minutes after us and got drinks AND apps before we left. So, it was honestly the worst experience. The server ignored us and visited her table next to us FIVE TIMES while we waited. Never assured us apps were coming or asked if we wanted a refresher on drinks. It takes a LOT for me to not have understanding when it comes to being a server. But this was outrageous. Don't waste your time here. read more

The mashed potato's are red bliss with the skins in them. Gross. My girlfriend had a salad with chicken but the chicken seemed under cooked below the massive amount of seasoning. No simple salad option either. We ended up going up the street to get the rest of what we wanted for dinner at a local bar. On Breakfast. Burnt coffee. Fresh, but heavily burnt. The rest of breakfast was very good. Great staff that did a great job even with an event going on. The bar is very good. I had a few beers, even had a bourbon. Have been going to Wolfe's Tavern for four plus decades, and it has changed from a rustic 'tavern restaurant' menu to a menu with gourmet choices and preparation. They cheerfully took our reservation for fourteen and we were seated promptly. I had lamb chops with minted pea purée...four tiny ribs...one bite and a nibble each. The purée was just a smear under the ribs....no noticeable mint flavor. Lamb was highly seasoned and overpowered any lamb flavor. All sides were extra. Clam chowder was delicious, as usual. Missed the lobster chowder of years past. Others had steak tips...one med-rare order was more med-well. Great service. Quite expensive. Parking is limited. Walk to downtown. read more

Stayed at the inn, so we hit the bar before dinner elsewhere in town. Enjoyed a few Spicy Watermelon Jalapeno margaritas-- so good. Bar was busy with a mix of tourists and locals. Friendly people. No view of the lake, but cozy bar, very dark and lodge like. Returned for breakfast, slightly hungover and starving. Strawberry Cream French Toast Thick cut Challah bread filled with sliced strawberries and whipped cream, dipped in egg batter and griddled. Finished with powdered sugar and maple syrup. OMG this was so freaking yummy, guys! I'm normally an eggs benedict gal, but wanted to try something different. So glad I did, this was ridiculously good. read more

Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this restaurant nor will I recommend it to anyone who is in the Wolfeboro area. Came here for dinner after a long day of work and a round of golf, they were one of the only restaurants that didn't have an hour wait. In hindsight this should've been a sign. The majority of the staff seemed young and inexperienced which is why I'm not giving it a 1 star. It's hard to function at your best when training new staff and mistakes will understandably happen in these cases. We had two servers, one who was training. Neither came by the table often to check on our meals or refill our drinks. I ordered the steak tips with loaded mashed potatoes and vegetables. The steak tips were decent while the sides tasted like they were store bought and prepackaged. My boyfriend order his steak cooked medium rare and it came served practically well done. Unfortunately, we were on a time crunch and couldn't wait to have another steak cooked, especially with how slow things were from the kitchen and with the wait staff. We told both our servers and they apologized but a manager never came to speak to us about it. We waited for 10 minutes after asking for the check to be brought before it came to our table. We paid full price for everything and tipped the servers well despite our experience. I will also mention that the bathrooms for the restaurant are located in the lobby of the attached hotel, the Wolfeboro Inn. The women's room was pretty gross when I used it. Two toilets not flushed including one that no guest would use until it was properly cleaned. Understandably this speaks more to the patrons who used the facilities and don't clean up after themselves but the hotel/restaurant should be more attentive. read more

When I saw that they had duck tacos on the menu I knew they'd be great. And they certainly were! My friend ordered poutine as an appetizer and they were alright, not the traditional French-Canadian style though. When I was younger I would call it squeaky-cheese because of the way the cheese curds sounded and felt in your mouth. With this poutine the cheese was all melted and there was a lot of gravy. For my dinner I ordered the veggie burger which was pretty good. It needed something, probably an extra spread even though it comes with ketchup. The main reason I'm giving it 4 stars is the service. They were super friendly and everything, but extremely slow. I think in total we were there for almost two hours, and the place wasn't that busy. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We were staying at the Inn and in my prior hotel experiences I never found the hotel restaurants to be great so I wasn't expecting much at all. We sat at the bar and it took us a while to be served. There were little gnats flying around. It smelled a little funny. The ceiling hung low and there were endless silver beer mugs hanging from the ceiling. Apparently you have to drink 100 different kinds of beer to get a mug. It was decorated very rustic and with a lot of wood accents. The menu actually looked pretty good and there were a lot of 'local' and 'organic' features. I'm such a sucker for that kind of stuff... I ended up getting the spinach salad and my bf got the buffalo chicken pizza. Our food was great! The bar definitely seemed like a locals hang out spot. It is a very small town. There were a bunch of people who seemed to know the bar staff, who were too comfortable with their choice of words. The food was good but the place wasn't terribly clean and the service was a bit slow. They do have an outside patio which is beautiful however. If I stay there again I would be back, probably for late night munchies or hangover brunch. read more

I almost cried here. I came here with 3 friends after a long day of skiing. We are in the state on a ski trip and were looking for a charming place to enjoy dinner and drinks. Wolfe's Tavern is not that. We waited a while to be seated and then it took at least 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us at our table. We ordered dinner, drinks, and eagerly requested water. After 30 minutes of waiting, without even a glass of water to tide us, the manager came over to tell us that she would "cut us a favor this time" by returning our IDs that they had requested for a second time. We are ALL OF AGE and have valid identification to prove this. They claimed that they "bent our IDs" and they felt flimsy. Maybe this is because out of state IDs use Teflon, as it is more difficult to replicate with imposters, unlike PVC which can more easily be fabricated. They were so disrespectful I had to offer my PASSPORT. After causing scene they took a look at my passport then came and apologized for accusing me of a felony, but still would not acknowledge that my friends were upstanding citizens with real IDs. We left promptly. Throughout all of this, not even a glass of water was given to us. The staff was hostile, the environment was inhospitable, and, frankly, we felt as though the restaurant was prejudice against us for being out of towners. The whole experience was so traumatizing it nearly brought me to tears. read more
