Came to Wolfeboro Inn for my niece's wedding, plus a quick family (and daughter Beau) get away. Enjoyed dinner (night 1), breakfast (next morning) and Sunday brunch at the Tavern. Wedding was also catered by the restaurant (beef and citrus salmon - very nice). Solid four stars for combination of menu, taste, and service. The Sunday Brunch had a great selection of tasty treats - a very nice way to end a beautiful weekend. The wedding drew us to Wolfeboro and the Lake, but the area and hospitality of the staff will bring us back. read more

I grew up going to this restaurant, and it has stayed a family destination for years. Sadly, as the years went on, the quality of the food at this tavern went downhill quick. I am not sure if this is because my palette has become more advanced, or simply because the Inn is getting old. On the most recent visit, this past Friday, my sister, mother, and I headed to the tavern while in town. This time, not only was the food bad, but the service was terrible. We were among only four other families in the main dining area, yet it somehow took us an hour to get our lunches. We felt bad about complaining, because our waiter seemed to suffer from social anxiety, but after forty-five minutes, we checked in on our food. Turned out that our waiter also forgot to place the order. We relieved our food fifteen to twenty minutes later. I ordered a veggie burger with sweet potato fries. The veggie burger was pretty dry, and the waiter forgot that I asked for sweet potato fries, and gave me chips. My mom ordered a salad with steak tips, in which she wasn't given the steak til she was halfway through. It was also charred and cold. My sister ordered a burger, and thankfully enjoyed her meal. Overall we are very disappointed with the way this Winnipesuakee favorite has gone so far down hill. We've been here before with no incident, but this time was very strange. We waited for 10 minutes after we were seated, and another party was seated and served before our server helped us. (She was very sweet, no complaints about her service). Fountain drinks were not refillable, we were double charged for all of our sodas, and the food took forever to come out; even given that we were one of only a few parties in the restaurant. Went here tonight and had a very nice meal. The food was delicious, but they're understaffed and we felt really bad for them. There's one nice woman running around doing the work of 4. She remains positive, but that has to be stressful beyond belief with the quick-tempered people out there. They are doing the best they can - it's tough to find any help right now. I had the French onion soup and it was very good, as was the pastrami sandwich. My daughter had the seafood pasta, and there was a TON of seafood. Really terrific. Was there this past Friday, August 4th... they definitely didn't seem to have it together from the start. They seated some people ahead of us which arrived after us and when we spoke up about it - they replied "they have a reservation" and we said "so do we". Well, whatever, we were sat quickly. Moving on... The waiter took our order but got my wine wrong - ordered Sauvignon Blanc - but a red wine came out - figured he must have thought I said Cabernet Sauvignon. I drank it anyways as I'm fine with either and didn't say anything - but when the bill came, it said Malbec. Fine again, moving on... When my friends daughter placed her order for Mac n cheese - he thought she said burger with cheese. Another palm to the head. We were fine with all that and felt bad for the guy BUT!!! Then it came time for dessert. He said they had chocolate mousse, red velvet and something else. My daughter ordered the mousse. He then told us they were out so she opted for the red velvet. When it came out I tasted a tad bit of the frosting - tasted strange. Then so did my daughter... she then went to try the cake and it was as hard as a rock - not even like slightly stale - I mean, we figured it was a display cake as you could hardly stab it with a knife. We couldn't get the attention of the waiter so we called over a lady who seemed to be working for the catering/event section. When we told her about the cake she profusely apologized and then said "honestly, we don't even normally serve this" WHAT?!?! Where the hell did it come from... where had it been sitting??? When the waiter finally came over he said "oh you didn't like the cake" and we told him it was stale, more than stale... like a fake display cake" his response "oh". Anyways, my stomach definitely didn't feel right that night and the next morning... loose stool and pain. And it has continued daily since then!!! Today is Thursday the 10th and my stomach still hurts and my bowel movements aren't normal. My daughter is also dealing with the same thing - stomach pains and unusual bowel movements. May this save you time and money. At the entrance a chalkboard sign read: "2022 New management, new menu, new mood." Well, for this family of 4: terrible management, terrible menu, terrible mood. First, we waited 10 minutes for a CAN of Sea Dogs Blueberry, when the place was basically empty. New menu had us disappointed and confused. I regret I forgot my phone at home and couldn't take photos. It has tastes of Mexican, Cuban, and Thai? While my husband enjoyed the NY sirloin and fingerling potatoes, his $2 upcharge side salad was instead an $11 house salad. I thought the Drunken Noodles were okay once I scraped off the cilantro...yes, cilantro on Thai noodles. My children ordered cheeseburgers from the children's menu (we specifically clarified this upon ordering)...out came the $15 Tavern Burger drenched in sauce and grilled onions. We encouraged our boys to eat it anyway after scraping off the extras that most kids won't eat...one did and one cried. So we ordered an $11 grilled cheese to replace it, which the waitress unapologetically tossed on our table. Horrible meal. Plus the place was FrEeZiNg. read more

We walked in and were the only people in the entire establishment. I should've known by that alone that we weren't going to have a great dining experience. The staff was very friendly. That was about the only thing they have going for themselves. The food was flavorless, dry, and unsatisfying as a whole. I want to love this place. I really, really do. I've been coming up to Wolfeboro for 40+ years and been to Wolfe's Tavern numerous times. Now that our kids are older, my husband and I can come to the bar for a few hours every weekend we come up, which is often in the summer. My biggest complaints are that the Inn is in a lakefront community and no part of the restaurant or bar is anywhere near the lake. It feels more like a winter bar to me. Although cozy, I just wish it had more of a summer, lake feel to it. I also feel a disconnect between the dining room and bar area. The dining room still has what seems to be the original furniture from the 80s, with ugly carpeting, but then the bar is beautiful. Recently renovated and an updated feeling. The two don't go together. Lastly, they changed the menu recently and our biggest complaint is that when you go to a bar late night, all you want is comfort food. They got rid of anything that you normally crave at night. Forget the fancy "froufrou" stuff and go back to the basics: nachos, artichoke dip, buffalo chicken, etc. This is the biggest complaint we overhear from other patrons who are new to the bar. Otherwise, The bartenders are great. Very personable and friendly and great at suggesting items from their menu. They have an excellent beer/drink menu... Lots of options! They are open the latest that we are aware of, which isn't saying much (the roads basically roll up in this town at 9 pm). Warning: Took over 2.5 hours to eat and food poisoning. Went here with family to show them how great this place usually is. They were considering having there wedding there. We went to eat at the tavern and although NO ONE was there, they said they were insanely busy with reservations. Anyway, they finally seated us to what would be the worst restaurant experience ever. Our waitress was fantastic (I wish I remembered her name since she needs a raise for doing so well and having to deal with the angry customers) but everything else sucked. We had black sludge on our wine glass, took 45 minutes for a bowl of soup (bland, no toppings). Then it took 1.5 HOURS for our main meal. And better yet, they weren't busy at all even when they said they were so booked! No manager came to apologize, and when we asked to see her our waitress just said she already talked to her.... All in all they took of a glass of wine....are you kidding?!? They should of comp'd the whole meal. Safe to say they aren't having their wedding there. Even worse, when I got home - I had SEVERE food poisoning!! I threw up violently all night long. I had eaten the "Graveyard Burger" (which I'm thinking is true to its name...) and it didn't taste that good. I actually took out the beef after eating half of it and just ate the bread, and thank goodness I did, or else I might be in the graveyard!! This place is usually great, but service sucks and now I'll never be going back after food poisoning. We're even a member of their Wolfe's club and have spent over $500 there - so we're extremely disappointed. If they had just made up for their mistakes, we may be having a wedding there and I may not be writing this bad review. But the manager never did her job and comping a wine glass doesn't cut it. They did have a wedding outside and thus why the service was slow, but that's not our problem and you need a separate chef for functions like that if you can't feed your other paying customers. Not a great experience - keep driving. My friends and I went to Wolfe's Tavern for a bachelorette dinner. We arrived to find there was no parking due to two large events, and had to drive down the road to park. Not a big deal, but would have been nice to know. When I went to the host stand and said my first and last name, the host said she could seat all 6 of us... but we were a party of 10. Awkward moments ensued until the other person with a similar name walked in behind me with her party of 6, which prompted them to find our reservation. Phew - rocky start, but we got our table. Our food... not so much. Once we got all three menus (after asking our friendly server for each one in turn - why not give someone at the table the bar menu... and the cocktail menu... if you serve it?), we ordered and 2/10 got soup. Some of us got salad as our meal. Drinks came and were fine, some were cheap and some were a bit overpriced. But the food took forever to arrive. The two cups of soup came out and then we asked for bread. Then we waited and waited. We sat down at 8 and at 9, I flagged down the manager and asked her if she could see where our food was. She came back from the kitchen to say that since we had "a round of appetizers," the kitchen had only started on the food 25 minutes ago, so it was on time. But not ready yet. I hardly think that two soups in a party of 10 counts as a round of appetizers! I asked for and got more bread. When the food finally arrived about 75 minutes into our dinner, we were all too tired and tipsy to enjoy it, though it was delicious. I had the grilled pineapple salad and the chorizo/challah sandwich. But literally all of us had food left over because we were just exhausted from being there forever. To make matters worse - the manager/host passed us on her way to the wedding reception and shouted over her shoulder "how is everything?" without even looking us in the eye or waiting to get a response. We would have definitely given her one! Ultimately - food is delicious, servers are trying to be nice, but the management and the bad/ lackluster response to the delay in food made for an unpleasant evening. It's clear that the wedding and anniversary party were their top priorities that night, which left us basically as second class diners. Not a fan, and I will not be going back. read more

I hate having to write a 1-star review, but this was by far the worst dining experience I've had in a LONG time, and what made it even more disappointing is that this was the tail-end of a family get-together and the only meal we went out for the whole week. This experience took place in mid-August on a Sunday evening. My family and I were promptly sat at a high-top table in clear view of the bar. Things got off to a rocky start when the bartender came over to take our drink order. I had been excited to see a huge list of martinis and specialty cocktails and always like to get an idea of what's popular and what the customer favorites are. When I asked the bartender what he recommended, he said "Any of them, they're all good" and briskly walked away mid-sentence so I couldn't even put in an order for one. We waited a long time to get our drinks (at least 20 minutes since we had been sat), and then put in our food order. I am not exaggerating in saying it took almost an hour to get our food. The tip of the iceberg was when four of us had completely empty glasses and the two bartenders could CLEARLY see our table, and weren't doing anything other than talking to each other and avoiding us. It was not busy! They ignored our table for at least 15 minutes thereafter. It was ridiculous. Definitely one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to customer service at a restaurant. The food was okay (I have had much better pizza than what was served to me), but the service made the experience terrible. I came here as an out-of-town guest, but was accompanied by my Mom and her boyfriend who live right in the area and visited often. They were equally upset with the lack of service and said they wouldn't be in any hurry to return. Pretty disappointed that brunch disappeared overnight last night and was replaced with a brunch menu where if you order "everything bagel bites with smoked salmon and cream cheese drizzle " you get doughnuts with glaze. Unacceptable. The food was quality and cooked with expertise, just misrepresented. The brunch burger is served on a cinnamon roll with an egg, it was all good, just the cinnamon roll was a little hard to accept. Loved our brunch experience at Wolfe's Tavern. We had heard about it so after docking our boat and walking around town we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. For 15.95 per person (no beverages included) you do get your money's worth. I was especially partial to the maple roast pork and ziti with tomatoes and artichoke hearts. Spent 5 minutes waiting at the hostess stand before anyone came over to us. We were told it would be a 20 min wait despite it being almost empty (you could hear a pin drop in the restaurant). Went over to the bar hoping to get a few drinks while we waited. Despite the bartender (who was behind the bar maybe 50% of the time) noticing we were there, we were never asked if we wanted a drink. Four of us stood there for a solid 10 minutes before we decided to find another place in town that at least seemed interested in providing us service. My husband and I went for a 7:30pm reservation for our valentines dinner. This is our home town and we came to visit family. I used to wait tables here 6-7 years ago while I was in college. We waited 15 minutes for the waitress to even greet us (we didn't even have a menu or specials) and she greeted us with "hi do you know what you want to order?" Once we received menus... we ordered right away since she looked at her phone and said "yeah it's getting close" as in close to 8:00pm when the kitchen closes, after we waited on her with no menus for 15 mins. Once our food was dropped at the table by someone else we didn't see her until she dropped our check. We had wanted to order another drink. So we told her we would like to do that and then we will cash out since she was in such a hurry. I was a server for many years (including at this establishment) so we are always respectful and kind. We haven't been out to dinner in 4 months.... I was almost in tears at the fact of how poorly we had been treated and there wasn't even a rose on the table or candle...nothing. or a simple happy Valentine's Day. The other 3 tables in there were upset with her as well and we heard them being a bit rude since it seemed she couldn't get the check right. So we tipped her 20% and figured she was having a crappy night as it was. We heard her at the computer directly behind us saying "F*ck this" to a coworker. THEN they started vacuuming where we were sitting before we had finished!!!! We were absolutely appalled that this is the Wolfe's tavern now. It's incredibly disheartening. Quality food with low quality service. The food is generally quite good, whether it's a breakfast, burger or full entree. Fresh, clean, nice presentations, etc. Nothing over the top, but heck, you're in a tavern, so decent tavern/pub style food is what I expect. And typically you'll get it, though perhaps a bit on the pricey side. The table and kitchen service is, however, problematic at best and difficult at worst. You are very likely to wait a long time for table service, whether it's busy or not. And food can take a long time to come out of that kitchen. Waits of 25 to 30 minutes (or more) after ordering are not uncommon. Note: the food is not that complex! It will, however, be hot when it comes ... IF it comes. You can NOT "have it your way" at Wolfe's Tavern. The chef won't let you. No substitutions, and no variances on your meal. For instance, if you don't want bacon on your specialty burger (but want the rest of the works), t. s. You're getting the bacon! Four stars for a convenient, warm, and pleasant dining area. Ate dinner here all three nights that we stayed at the Inn. We had a different burger each night - Graveyard burger, Caesar burger and Caprese burger- cooked medium rare and were able to get GF "bun" each time. Every meal was great. Service a little slow first night but more than made up for it the next two nights. We were there mid week after Labor Day so don't know what it is like in season. Rebecca was our server twice. I have spent my summers In Wolfeboro when I was a child and my brother now lives here. I'm in town to visit him. All I did was breakfast at Wolfes Tavern and it was simple eggs, bacon, one piece of whole wheat toast and some home fries. The service was great, I believe my server was a young lady named Samantha. She was extremely polite, and checked on me during the meal. We all know hotel breakfasts are overpriced but it was nothing special. The home fries were factory made squares. As far as outdoor lunch spots go, the deck is 5 stars in my book. I went all in and got the Nuclear meltdown burger, which was surprisingly well spiced and not just hot. Where to begin? When we were seated, it was in a back corner of the restaurant. Our table was surrounded by dirty tables and ours had food all over three of the four chairs. When the waitress asked what we were doing as we were swapping out chairs, I explained that the chairs were covered with food which elicited a response of "ugh, that's gross" with no attempt to clean anything. The tables flanking is remained dirty throughout the meal. Next: Kids menus. These must be printed individually (for some reason) and it takes a minimum of 35 minutes to accomplish this task. No food or drink orders are allowed during this time, and the waitress will not tell you what is on the five-item menu. Mealtime: Food should take about an hour. I had the $16 cheese steak, which was an explosion of mushrooms and one burnt slice of steak-um. My daughter dined on the mac & cheese, which was penne and velveeta. This is when the waitress hides for an hour. Leaving: After begging someone to take our check and relieve us of our 2hr lunch in a restaurant with 12 people, we paid and left, never to return. read more

After not getting the water requested I asked for a glass of beer -- restaurants are usually more willing to bring a beer quickly. I was promptly met by the manager threatening to take and destroy my real out of state drivers license. After offering to show my credit cards, student ids, EVEN a life guarding license with my name and age she responded with increasing hostility (especially to my Asian friend). Yes I got a weird look when I checked in because the reservation was booked under my business name but I would not call that an attitude and j call everything an attitude. The menu is very eclectic - frog legs, beef cheeks, and grilled feta just to name a few. There were more traditional fare for people who prefer simpler dishes - chicken, steak tips and salads. Our food was delicious, really good and our waitress was sweet. We were there on the Fire and Ice Festival and the service was on target. I didn't feel like we waited an outrageously long time considering they were busy. The tavern itself is charming and worth a trip to see. Prices are on the high side for quality of food. Steak meal$26 , steak was full of fat, dry, asked for medium , steak was burnt on the outside and well done/overdone. The butter sauce on it very odd seasoning and ruined the pieces that didn't have fat. Mashed potatoes were dried out, and had a paste thick texture. Extremely dry. At 3:15pm on a Sunday they were out of mussels for their appetizers on main menu and entrees not even a special. The ice tea had a horrible bad taste to it and weird smell. Service was extremely slow and it wasn't even busy. For 6 people only Meals that were ok were the kids Mac and cheese, even their chicken tenders were burnt. Clam chowder was barely warm. 6 meals drinks including 2 beers, one mix, 3 appetizers $189 extremely disappointing. Was here just this past weekend. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. My party started off with the Calamari which was delicious. I then had the Mac and Cheese Burger which was unbelievable. I also ended up proposing to my girlfriend on this very same night and the whole staff was very accommodating. My girlfriends parents asked to be seat in a completely different area in which they were going to sit us, and they were more than happy to accommodate us. Tradition has it that I visit Wolfe's Tavern each time I visit Lake Winnipesaukee. They have a great beer list with local and national and international labels, and a comparable nifty list for wines and spirits as well. And I have to say that the "feel" of this historic building is wonderful - complete with creaking floorboards and nifty little side rooms and all the charm that makes a place that is more than 200 years old something worthy of tradition and visiting. That said - the food across the years has not stayed as nifty as the beverages and ambience. It's not bad, and some of it is still quite good, but overall, it isn't anything that in itself would draw me to dine there, especially for the prices of the items. Still, a place that should be visited at least once, even if it doesn't make "tradition" level. The town of Wolfesboro in general is absolutely lovely, and worth a day or two just strolling around - ice cream on the dock, picking up a little bit of this and that for souvenirs and gifts at the many little shops, resting in the gazebo by the lake, time at an almost always present craft fair, and plenty of places to dine - whether breakfast, lunch, dinner, happy hour, or lakeside snack. read more

Would never step foot in this place. Recently visited the area to see my son play. I was staying at the hotel but wanted grab a bite to eat. The restaurant area was closed but kitchen was open. When I came in initially the bartenders did not want to serve me food initially. Got through that. Very surprised why the whole place got quiet when I actually came in. Felt like I was in the 1960s. Constant staring from patrons. Maybe because I'm 6'5 but I doubt it was that. Now to the food. When I received my food, I took it to go back to my room. Sure enough the chicken was uncooked. Picture in gallary. I brought it to the hotel mgr and she acknowledge it was not cooked. All I ordered was a Ceasar salad with chicken. Mgr at the bar also acknowledge that it was not cooked and apologized. Again 1960s feel and you can't cook a basic chicken breast for a salad. If I could I would give this restaurant a zero. This was my first time in this establishment and sadly it will be my last. Your bartender with the big poofy hair made my friends and I extremely uncomfortable from the second we walked in. She was constantly giving my friends dirty looks and whispered to her coworkers while glaring. We felt extremely uncomfortable from the start which made us feel rushed to finish our drinks and get out. We were sitting at the community table next to the bar so we are confused as to why the bartender had a problem with us.i will not be recommending this place to any of my friends or family. read more
